Do-it-yourself circular miter saw

The difference between a miter saw and a circular saw

The main difference between a homemade miter saw is its relative cheapness.

It can be built from existing scrap Chipboard or OSB.

In addition, thick plywood is also suitable, and in certain cases, textolite.

In addition, homemade trims have the following distinctive features:

  • the machine is built, as a rule, for the existing specific need for cutting parts of a certain dimension. Sometimes it is these dimensions that cannot be processed on commercially available machines;
  • the bed of a homemade machine is made of wooden plates or even from scraps of thick and wide boards. Of course, you can build a frame from steel plates and even from a composite, for example, a frame. from a steel profile, and the table itself. already from a chipboard. But in any case, this will be more expensive and more difficult, because you will have to deal with more expensive metal, and secondly, you need to work with metal welding, and then work with Chipboard.

A homemade miter saw, of course, will be less technologically advanced than a purchased factory-made one. But often no one wants the perfect result. And here the construction of a homemade trimming is just such an option.

For example, if you are going to sheathe the house with clapboard outside, then it would be quite reasonable to carry out trimming in conditions when both the material and the tool will be as free of backlash as possible. In this case, the result will be much more accurate.

A distinctive feature of a homemade miter tool is its relative simplicity, and therefore, it is possible to achieve an almost complete absence of third-party movements of the cutting tool. And all this at no extra cost.

Safety engineering

When preparing blanks from a chipboard or thick plywood, it is inevitable to use the same circular saw, which will later become an integral part of the miter machine being formed. All the potential danger of doing work on the manufacture of the machine with your own hands is associated with this particular tool.

It is advisable to carry out work on a professional workbench, but if for some reason this is not possible, then you should carefully monitor that the teeth of the saw blade do not accidentally touch any surface, and of course, in no case touch any part your body. The cutting tool is a subject of increased danger to the user.

Step by step guide

Let’s analyze the sequence of actions when converting a circular into a miter saw. The peculiarity of the “parquet” is its characteristic course. You need to move it along the surface of the material being cut, but not vertically. Therefore, the machine will represent their basis, which, firstly, will allow positioning and fixing the workpiece, and secondly, it has a base with stops along which the circular saw will move in the device (parquet flooring).

Benefits

When a tool (and even more so a machine) is made independently, then its design, as a rule, takes into account as much as possible those needs and tasks that are supposed to be solved with its help:

  • so that molded parts do not have burrs and creases during cutting, it is necessary that the circular saw has an adjustable speed of movement relative to the plane being cut (so that the burrs are removed by the cutting edges of the saw teeth);
  • suppose you need to make not the usual transverse trimming of molded products, but at a certain angle. In this case, it is necessary that the workpiece be fixed in order to avoid backlash during the cut;

It is extremely difficult to find a cross-cut saw on sale that has the function of not only rotating the desktop, but also the option of clamping the workpiece. And if you can find such a tool, then it will not cost cheap.

  • and, of course, the price. The miter saw can be literally assembled from scrap materials, moreover, from parts that cannot be used anywhere else. Economy is not a decisive advantage?

All these features are inherent in the self-made designs of cross-cutting machines, which makes their production on their own justified and profitable.

DIY Sliding Miter Saw with Circular Saw. How to Made

Determining the height of the shelf for lateral movement

If the person working on the machine is right-handed, then the shelf for the circular saw should be located on the right edge of the table in order to be able to fix the workpiece on the table.

You should adjust the protrusion on the circular saw to the maximum and measure at what height above the table you need to position the shelf for the circular movement of the circular so that the teeth of its saw blade do not touch the table. This measurement will actually determine the maximum thickness of the workpieces.

Setting the limiters

When the shelf for the circular saw is formed, then this very saw should be positioned on it and marked so that the teeth of the disk fall into the cutout under them, but also do not touch anything. It should be noted the dimensions of the case on the shelves. it is according to these marks that in the future it will be necessary to set limits for the movement of the circular saw.

These restraints should be made from scraps of chipboard or thick plywood. They should be at least 5 cm wide. Their main feature is the most even edge along which the circular saw will move. The stops should be set so that the circular saw runs along them tightly and evenly, without any backlash.

To do this, it is recommended to put them initially on the glue, and while it has not grabbed, test the walking of the facing device. If everything is set correctly, then the restraints (or guides) should be fixed with self-tapping screws, screwing them to the shelves. Since the rails are 5 cm wide, it is recommended to take the width of the shelves at least 10 cm.

Shelf design

Fragments of chipboard or thick plywood should be fastened to the table surface relative to the slot with self-tapping screws, increasing them, screwing to each other, to the previously measured level of the circular saw positioning height.

It should be noted that at the very last level a chipboard layer will go, which will form a shelf for the circular saw to move. So, while increasing the height, you should remember about the thickness of the Chipboard of the last layer.

The shelf for the circular movement consists of two parts, symmetrically located relative to the mowing line, the cut for free movement of the disc. In fact, there should be 2 “bridges” set parallel to each other across the space for the saw blade and the right edge of the table at the very right side of this table.

Varieties of miter saws

There are several types of miter saws (popularly also called “miter saws”). Let’s get acquainted with these varieties.

How to make a miter saw from a circular do-it-yourself?

A miter saw is a device that every builder needs to take “into service”. However, it is no secret that a high-quality professional tool on the construction market is quite expensive. That is why those who want to save material resources, as well as show their skills, should try to make a miter saw with their own hands. The starting material for this will be a circular saw.

Pendulum

The basic part of such a saw is the bed. A table is attached to the bed, which must have a swivel mechanism equipped with a ruler. It is this mechanism that allows the cutting process to be carried out at a certain angle, adjusting it to the specific individual needs of each user. over, this angle can be changed by moving the desktop directly in relation to the bed.

As for the saw itself, it is fixed in this device by means of a lever, and also spring-loaded by means of a hinge. Thanks to the pendulum, which gave the name to this type of miter saw, the saw moves up or down.

How to make a trimming from a circular?

If you do not have the ability or desire to purchase a ready-made miter saw, then such a device can be made yourself. However, it will not work to make it completely from scratch. The initial design should be a hand-held circular saw and drawings.

So, in order to make a trimming with your own hands at home, you need to make a box that will serve as a base. As a raw material for the manufacture of a box, you can use a chipboard (chipboard).

In the process of whipping and assembling the box, experts recommend using confirmations consisting of 1 element. they are inherently ordinary ties for connecting wooden parts. The final box for the base for trimming must have the shape of the letter “P”.

When making a box, it is important to ensure that it does not move. It is often attached to the work table with special clamps (the tool used to fix it). Next, on top of the shelf, you need to screw the manufactured base under the saw.

Important: When attaching the base, you must maintain a 90 degree angle, otherwise you will not be able to align the saw sole.

On both sides, using self-tapping screws, it is necessary to fix small pieces of chipboard. Thanks to this manipulation, you will adjust the position of the sole of the instrument. The next step in transforming the circular is to fix it. over, this should be done using all the same clamps, and you can also use wing clamps.

Next, you should proceed to the installation of the so-called table. It should be fixed near the base of the table. However, keep in mind that in the process of carrying out this activity, you reduce the cut in depth by 1.5 centimeters, so try to put the profile as close as possible in relation to the saw element.

do-it-yourself, circular, miter

After carrying out the above described manipulations, you can proceed to the test cut. you should get the cutting line based on the stop. If so, then you did everything right.

As you can see, it is quite possible to make a miter tool from a circular hand saw. The main thing in this case is to strictly follow the instructions and recommendations, as well as make a little effort and be patient.

With a broach

This device is considered the most versatile, since the saw can be displaced not only around the axis, but also along the cut along a straight mowing line.

Combined

When using a combined saw, the cutting angle can be changed in 2 directions. The device, like the previous version, contains an additional hinge. In order to change the cutting angle, it must be adjusted and retracted to the side opposite to the place where the drive is mounted.

Advantages and disadvantages of a homemade device

Like any other device, a homemade miter saw derived from a hand-held circular saw has its own characteristics and features. Some of them are positive, while others are negatively colored. One way or another, it is necessary to take into account both those and other signs.

  • The first and most important benefit of a homemade miter saw is the significant financial savings. So, buying a ready-made tool will cost you quite a lot (average), and making a tool with your own hands from a material point of view is available to almost everyone.

How to make a circular saw with your own hands?

A circular saw will always help to cope with many household and construction tasks. Making it yourself is not as difficult as it seems at first glance. It is enough to adhere to simple rules in working with metal, to have suitable materials at home or in the garage. If you briefly describe the design, then you need to do the following: you will have to build a workbench for a saw of the required dimensions and adapt a hand-held circular saw for it. A stationary machine of this type will greatly facilitate the work and increase its volume. So, let’s look at how to make this tool yourself.

Budget workshop: circular saw

In my free time from my main work, I am engaged in carpentry, and, therefore, as a Chukchi, what I see, I sing about that. And I did not start by buying machines and starting to work, but slowly accumulating tools, doing something myself, buying something, exchanging it, accepting it as a gift, and so on.

I believe that the main tool in carpentry is a circular saw. It’s just that, one way or another, we start with cutting the material. There are dozens of ways to do this without a circular saw, but for me it is still the main tool. So if you really want to work, you will have to get hold of such a saw.

I started out with a simple cheap parquet that was bolted to a chipboard sheet. A simple bar served as a parallel emphasis, which I fastened with clamps, but nevertheless it was already possible to work with it!

Now I want to tell you about a homemade plywood saw. I used it until the end of last year, until I bought a Bosch PTS10. And now she already pleases the new owner. I have the opportunity to compare it with Bosch, so Bosch does not always win. It is made of “parquet”, if you can call that a saw weighing more than 7 kilograms and a power of 2 kilowatts.

My saw starts from the base. Still, I don’t want 2 kilowatts of foolishness to fall and chase you across the floor, so the foundation must be reliable. Mine is made from old custom pallets, later two wheels were added to move.

It is based on the older model of parquet flooring from Interskol, with a soft start, and a 2 sq. All unnecessary has been removed. The plywood structure on the left is designed to maintain a stable angle of 90%. With such a weight of the engine, the native design does not hold the angle.

View of the engine from the other side. You can see the amplifier bolted to the table so that the table top does not bend.

For safe switching on, a classic starter is used, that is, in case of loss and return of electricity, the saw will not turn on itself. Safety first!

There is a table extension on the side, which allows you to cut about a meter from the rip fence. If necessary, the support folds down on the hinges. A parallel stop is visible on the table, which is fixed with clamps.

This is what my saw looks like with the table extension down. If you lower the disc, then it turns into a bedside table. There are wheels at the back for moving. All sorts of useful things are on the shelf inside

The parallel stop is realized with the help of two quick-clamping clamps, it is set along a ruler from the disc mowing line, it can be seen on the table. I wanted to embed a stationary ruler, but nothing went further than wanting.

There is a carriage for cross-cutting, it walks on three guides.

As you can see, spending a little money can get you a good beginner’s tool. Of course, I would not drive the moldings on it, but a lot of projects have been done on this saw. If you have a saw, you can even do without a planer at the initial stage. Everything determines the number of additional attachments such as carriages with different angles, tenons, stops and so on.

It all looks scary, but we’re talking about budget carpentry, aren’t we? And this allows us to work here and now, and not after we buy ourselves a circular for 50 thousand. For example, I still finish and finish my Frankenstein-Bosch in the title photo.

Table circular saw

Having drunk for some time with a hand-held circular saw (parquet flooring), I realized its disadvantages. it is difficult and dangerous to cut off a small part, for example, a piece of 10x10cm chipboard, etc.

And also when sawing boards along. the hand is very tired to hold the saw, this is the most comfortable saw.

Then I decided to make a table for a circular saw with my own hands, only portable, so that I could put it on any chair or table and put it on the shelf when it was not needed, and also left the possibility of quickly turning it back into a manual circular saw. without removing any protections and tp.

How to make a stationary or manual circular with your own hands

A hand-made circular saw is an excellent tool that allows you to solve a large number of household and other tasks. In fact, it is not difficult to make this device on your own, even in that situation, if you do not have any special skills, the most important thing is to understand at least a little the principle of processing metal alloys.

The materials you need for the job can be found in your home workshop or garage. So, a circular saw from a circular saw with your own hands is made from the following elements:

  • corner of strong steel;
  • rectangular shaped tube;
  • engine.

The finished circular saw can be positioned on a workbench. If you do not have one, you will have to make the table yourself. The engine can be taken from an old walk-behind tractor or washing machine.

Installing and securing the saw

Then I installed the saw on a sheet with a window, precisely centered it and placed the holes for attaching the saw pins. Studs used m6. I drilled 5 mm holes for the saw studs and cut the M6 thread. The pins were twisted into the sheet so that 1 mm remained to the edge of the sheet from the front side, then they were welded from the front side, just 1 mm was filled with liquid metal. This method of fastening turned out to be quite durable.

Next, I marked 4 holes in each sheet for the location of the M10 racks, for them I did not cut the threads, because the thread pitch is large for M10 and in the metal thickness of only 3 mm they will not hold well, but you do not need to attach anything close to these studs, so they were simply welded on the bottom and top sides, the top was welded flush with the metal surface. Studs were welded only to the top sheet of metal.

The studs are attached to the bottom sheet of metal with nuts on both sides. This is done so that you can easily disassemble the structure and quickly remove the saw.

Next, I made wing holders from a 15×15 mm profile pipe, to which a ruler is attached.

The ruler was made from a corner of 32 mm and two pieces of steel strip 40 mm wide.

In the strip, it was necessary to cut grooves for the M8 lambs. I made the grooves like this. I drilled holes along the edges of the groove and cut out the groove with an angle grinder, and then with my favorite file

The strips were welded to the corner by welding.

Then I checked everything that everything fit well, took the structure apart and painted it.

I ended up with a great circular saw table.

Miter saw from circular saw

Miter saw. the same circular saw based on a conventional circular saw. It allows you to cut with great accuracy at the required angle almost all materials. from plastic to metal. There is such a tool from the manufacturer, that is, ready-made, not cheap, and assembling it yourself is not so difficult. Therefore, if you have an urgent need for a miter saw, and your hands are growing from the right place, further information will be very useful.

Do-it-yourself miter saw from a circular

A miter saw consists of several essential elements

Let’s get to the heart of the matter: you have a circular in stock, and you are assembling a homemade miter saw. The first three points are already present in the circular itself, and the fourth may not be needed if you skillfully assemble a guide rail for the saw.

Let’s start assembling

  • We cut out a rectangular sheet of plywood and make a long cut on it, along which your trimming will ride;
  • From above we fasten two guides, for example, from an aluminum corner, to the width of the working plane of the circular itself;
  • From the bottom to the plywood sheet you need to screw two supports with a height equal to the cutting depth of your saw (5.3 cm).

As a result, we get a guide along which the circular will walk. Depending on how we fix it on the table with such a simple mechanism, we can make an accurate cut at any angle. The simplest design option is ready.

What if we want our miter saw to be more functional at work and look like a factory miter saw? In this case, you will have to show more ingenuity.

  • First, you need to make a bracket and a stand on which the circular will be fixed. Chipboard (27 mm) is an excellent raw material for such a mechanism. With the help of self-tapping screws and aluminum corners, you will get a very decent top end. And the springs fixed on top can make the work on such a saw more convenient;
  • Secondly, you need to fix the tripod itself on a movable pivoting footboard, make a pendulum saw, thanks to which we will eventually be able to change the facing angle.

As for the trimming itself, everything is said about the assembly. However, if we decided to make a saw that looks like a factory saw, then it will be difficult to do without a table.

How to make a do-it-yourself miter saw table

A good material for a table is a 19mm Fibreboard.

  • Measure the depth and width of the entire structure (miter saw);
  • Now measure the width and depth of the workbench, on which the table and the trimming itself will stand;
  • As a result, the lower part of the table made of Fiberboard-slab should be equal to the width and depth of the workbench, and the upper part should consist of two parts and in total be less in length by the width of the miter saw;
  • The height of the table should be equal to the depth of cut;
  • Inside the table (between the upper and lower slabs), at a distance of 50 cm, it is important to make rigid partitions from the same Fiberboard-slab. This is necessary so that when pressed, the table does not bend.

Now everything is for sure. The miter saw from a regular circular saw is ready.

Circular manufacturing options

You can build a circular saw in a home workshop using one of four schemes:

  • Install an asynchronous electric motor of 1.0-1.5 kW on a metal welded table, make an overdrive belt drive onto the shaft, on which the cutting disc is fixed with a flange;
  • Make a small wooden table for a low-power washing machine motor;
  • Install a hand-held circular saw of industrial manufacture on a machine assembled from a wooden bar;
  • Use an ordinary angle grinder as a drive for building a circular grinder, in which the abrasive disc is replaced by a steel cutting tool.

All the above schemes are used in practice with different efficiency. If you want to unfold thick, up to 100 mm thick beams and logs, you will need a circular saw with a powerful motor and a steel frame.

An angle grinder is well suited for trimming small parts made of wood, but it is practically not used for a stationary circular saw due to the limited time of continuous work. A circular saw from a washing machine engine turns out to be relatively weak and inconvenient. Low power. 500 W and low revs require the manufacture of an overdrive V-belt drive and a system of two shafts. There is a lot of trouble, but the quality of the cut and productivity on such a circular is low.

Converting a hand-held circular saw into a stationary version

All that needs to be done to convert a hand saw to a stationary circular version is to make a table or box-shaped body and fix the saw on the back of the table top so that part of the cutting edge of the disc protrudes above the plane of the table, photo.

The size and shape of the circular table is chosen based on the width and length of the lumber. For small boards, a one and a half meter table with a width of 60-70 cm will be optimal. The support part of a circular saw can be welded from a steel corner with a shelf width of 25-30 mm. In the upper and lower parts of the legs, horizontal struts are welded from reinforcement or a corner. This solution allows you to ensure the maximum rigidity of the frame.

For the countertop, you can use laminated particle board or OSB, plywood with a thickness of 15-20 mm. In this case, the tabletop itself does not have to be positioned symmetrically with respect to the steel support frame. When cutting a board on a circular, you have to work with both hands. With one hand, the material is fed longitudinally forward, and with the other we press the board against the table. So, the main thing is that the location of the motor and the pressure point are not very close to the edge and do not create a tipping moment for the entire structure.

The plane adjacent to the cutting tool can be covered with metal or plastic to make it easier to move the massive board around the circular saw table.

The only drawback of this alteration is the need to alter the controls: the start button and the hold lever. Most hand-held circular saws, in addition to the start button, are equipped with a lever or a hold trigger. As long as you press the trigger against the saw handle with your fingers, the engine of the device runs normally. As soon as the trigger is released, the motor stops. A very necessary thing if you unexpectedly drop a working circular saw from your hands while cutting.

Therefore, the first step is to make changes to the control system of the handheld circular saw. For this, the contacts on the button and trigger are brought out to an external electric bag attached to the body. Of course, such alterations can be performed on a power tool for which the warranty period has long expired.

In rare cases, it becomes necessary to remove the instrument from the table and use it in its original manual version. In this case, instead of soldering the contacts, the button and the trigger are fixed with a clamp or simply wrapped with electrical tape, and the power cord from the tool is included in the carrier with an on / off button.

The simplest version of altering a circular saw is shown in the photo. For a table circular saw, a box-shaped body is made from plywood. The tabletop with the installed circular saw is turned over and fixed on the box.

Stationary installation

A machine similar to factory models needs a competent attitude during the assembly process, so you need to take care of all the little things in advance. The desktop version of the “circular” differs from the stationary only in the height of the bed, which is determined by the peculiarities of work and the size of future workpieces. One-time processing can also be done using an ordinary table saw, which after work can be easily removed to the pantry or shed. But a master who constantly deals with wood will need a stationary installation. Therefore, he needs to make a table for a circular saw with his own hands.

The circular machine has the following advantages:

  • Such equipment allows you to make better and deeper cuts.
  • The machine is much more convenient than manual equipment.

From the foregoing, we can conclude that circular saws, made independently, have a completely understandable and simple design, and the drawings that can be found on the vastness of the World Wide Web will greatly simplify the process of assembling equipment. Before making your own “circular”, you should separately consider all the necessary elements in order to understand the nuances of the functioning and installation of homemade equipment.

Circular from an angle grinder

If you have your own “angle grinder” that’s very good. To create a “circular”, you need to make an axial handle and a sliding stop to the unit. The design of the sliding stop includes a pair of steel angle pieces placed on the sides of the saw blade. With the help of nuts and bolts, they are connected by a transverse bundle, and the gap between the working part and the sidewalls of the structure will be provided with washers.

On the “angle grinder”, it is necessary to pre-tighten the band clamp made of metal with a screw tie down. Then you need to attach the double-folded metal strip to the holes for the sliding stop. The stand and clamp can be combined, but in this situation the metal strip will be too thick.

Then, in the gearbox of the future tool, you will need to make several holes for the bolts. For this purpose, the body is disassembled, and the points where drilling will take place are indicated. With the help of the holes made, the axial handle is fixed, because the “standard” handle will not allow you to make a good cut, even if the master has very strong hands.

The handle is created from a metal tube or rod. Designs can be shaped like horns or staples. The ends of the element with which it will be attached to the gearbox must be provided with holes for installing fasteners.

You also need to make a barbell that will regulate the process. For this purpose, you need to take a piece of metal rod, make a loop from one end of it, rivet it slightly and make a hole for the front stop bolt.

At the other end of the rod, you need to make a thread that will allow you to connect it to the handle. In advance, one strong nut should be screwed onto this thread, and after the structure is assembled, the second. By lowering and pulling them, you can adjust the cutting depth. By the way, if you use a drill instead of an angle grinder, you can make a similar tool.

Thus, you can independently make a good circular saw out of an ordinary angle grinder, with which you can cut various materials.

Building a home circular

  • Firstly. hand-held circular saws have high rotation speeds, which means that a good cut quality is ensured;
  • Secondly. in a collector motor, the shaft is mounted on bearings designed for a radial load;
  • Thirdly. cantilever mounting of the cutting blade allows you to relatively quickly replace it with a new one, without disassembling the circular saw.

On a disc with a diameter of 225 mm, the overhang or height of the disc above the worktable is only 40 mm. This is more than enough to cut a forty board into a strip or strip, cut out any curly details and solid wood. In addition, a spring-loaded protective cover is installed on the body of the circular, which covers the cutting edge in the inoperative position.

Perhaps this device is useful and necessary for protecting fingers and hands, but it only interferes with the work, since the thin cutting edge of the disc is not visible. Therefore, when altering it, it is often dismantled or fixed on the body of the circular saw in the open position.

Compact benchtop machine

The above talked about how to assemble a hand circular. Now we will tell you how to turn this device into a stationary one. This process involves the manufacture of a U-shaped bed from a pipe, as well as the installation of a transverse arm. The lower ends of the structure should bend horizontally in the direction of the cut. They are bolted to the table. Stability is ensured by additional supports.

The lever mobility is ensured by cutting the horizontal segment into two identical parts, which are fixed to each other with clamps. The saw blade is attached to the vertical element of the bed with clamps.

Stationary circular

It is possible to use an angle grinder as a working mechanism in stationary conditions. The bed in this case will have a slightly different design. The stationary option implies the availability of free space and a large amount of work. Therefore, the entire structure can be made more solid, more massive, and, therefore, more reliable.

The frame of the bed can be made from a corner by a welded joint. Bolted and other types of detachable fasteners lose grip from constant vibration, the structure begins to stagger.

A working table made of a wide board or thick plywood is attached to the top of the metal frame. The workpiece will move along it. The stop angle is equipped with a movable mount for adjusting the cutting width.

It would be nice to provide for the adjustment of the table height or the removal of the disc above its surface. then it will be possible to cut longitudinal grooves in the board.

On the side of the machine there are controls: a socket and on / off buttons. In the stationary version, it makes sense to exclude the key on the body of the angle grinder from the diagram. If there is enough space, a high power sander can be used as a drive.

How to make a sawmill from an angle grinder is shown in this

Electric hand saw

A hand-held circular saw electric from an angle grinder is obtained by replacing a standard cutting disc with a disc for wood.

True, this option is suitable for short cuts in sheet materials or for cutting thin strips. With a long cut or on thick bars, there is a danger of the disc skewing, jamming it. It will be much easier to hold the saw if the handle is not positioned perpendicular to the axis of the tool, but is made a continuation of the body.

It is not recommended to remove the protective cover, as it will protect against the ingress of sawdust into the face.

Craftsmen also make a hand chain saw from an angle grinder. True, such a tool is dangerous for the user: the absence of a chain stopper can lead to unpredictable consequences. In addition, the chain is not lubricated, which leads to its rapid wear.

Miter saw

Trimming, that is, cross-cutting boards or bars at right angles, is better if you use a special device.

You can also make such a machine from an angle grinder with your own hands.

  • To do this, an angle grinder with a disc for wood is fixed on a turntable perpendicular to the direction of the length of the board so that the plane of the disc is directed strictly vertically. One attachment point should be located in the area of the gearbox, and the second at the opposite end of the machine.
  • The gearbox housing has threaded holes for attaching standard handles. Using the corners and these holes, the angle grinder must be attached to the moving part of the machine.
  • The back of the body is attached to the board with a clamp. The blade guard can be used with any power tool of suitable size.
  • Closer to the vertical support, you need to fix the stop angle. It should be located strictly perpendicular to the plane of the disk, both in vertical and horizontal directions.

The spring at the rear end of the bar serves to return the miter saw to its original position after the end of the cut. The horizontal table should have a transverse groove into which the disk enters when cutting the board. The diameter of the disc is chosen based on the width of the boards. So trimming can be done in one go. The main thing is that the inner hole of the disc must coincide with the mount on the axis of the gearbox.

When working on such a machine, it should be borne in mind that the drive power is not designed for a large load. Therefore, the rotating disc must be brought smoothly to the surface of the part being cut, the cut should be made without strong pressure.

Table circular saw

Sometimes there is a need to change the width of the board or the thickness of the bar. The best option for this kind of work is a circular saw, especially if there are a lot of boards. For cutting boards of small length (1-2 m), the table version of the circular is very useful. It is not necessary to buy such a machine, you can do it yourself from the same angle grinder.

The design of a circular saw is much more complicated than a miter saw. The time of contact of the saw blade with wood is quite long, therefore, the reliability of fastening the body of the angle grinder to the bed should be higher.

This is how one of the options for a table circular may look like.

The photo shows that the desktop consists of two planes:

  • the upper table is designed to advance the workpiece;
  • the lower one serves as a stop for the grinder.

The disc passes through a groove in the top surface. If the angle of contact of two planes is provided with pivoting hinges, then it will be possible to adjust the working height of the saw blade to reduce the area of rubbing surfaces.

The head of the bolt is clearly visible on the upper surface of the table, with the help of which the angle grinder is fixed. The protruding bolt limits the width of the board to be cut. You can cope with this problem by laying another layer of plywood.

It is rather inconvenient to turn the angle grinder on and off with the keys on the case. If the key can be fixed in the working position, then a socket with a switch should be installed on the outside of the machine.

The abutment angle should be as long as possible in order to prevent the board from deviating from the cutting direction. It is better to fasten the corner so that you can change the working distance between it and the disc: then the width of the cut part will also change.

Circular saw from a conventional angle grinder

It is too expensive to have an entire range of electric tools at home. For example, a circular at home is rarely required. Sawing boards can be done with an upgraded angle grinder.

The nuances of using a homemade circular

It should not be overlooked that the angle grinder, by its main purpose, is an angle grinder. Therefore, using it as a homemade circular saw, you need to pay attention to the nuances.

  • Duration of continuous cutting should not exceed 15-20 minutes in order to avoid overheating of the motor.
  • The standard protection on the blade is in no way suitable for a circular saw. The protective cover can be used from a real circular or made by yourself.

It should be remembered that the rotation speed of the grinder can be more than 10,000 rpm. this is several times higher than the speed of woodworking machines. At this speed, the wood begins to smoke. In addition to an unpleasant odor, fire is possible.

Preparation of the base

First of all, you need to make the base of the circular saw. The main requirements for such a basis. stability and strength. For the construction of the body of the future machine, wooden blocks with a cross section of at least 80 by 60 mm are perfect.

The constructed hull can also be sheathed with wood materials. To connect all the elements, self-tapping screws for wood, that is, with frequent cutting, or large bolts are best suited. If bolts are used, care must be taken to prevent the nut from loosening due to vibration.

After preparing the case, you need to take care of the countertop. For these purposes, it is best to choose thick plywood, from which you need to cut a tabletop of suitable sizes. Under it will be located the main mechanism, consisting of several units: an electric motor, a spindle and a disk.

Assembling the nodes

A circular saw implies a fairly powerful power source. Its choice directly depends on how large the installation is planned, what performance is expected from it. You should also not forget about the possibilities of the electrical network. If the power of the circular saw is carried out from a two-phase mowing line, you will need a motor designed for a standard power of 4-6 kW / h at a network voltage of 220V. It will provide a disk rotation speed of approximately 3500 rpm. Such a machine will be suitable for cutting boards with a thickness of about 70 mm.

When the engine is selected and the base is prepared, you can begin to manufacture the spindle, which is a housing with bearings and a shaft. The circular saw blade will rotate on it. A bicycle pedal assembly can be used as a spindle. But in it you first need to replace the standard “star” with an element from the engine.

As far as the cutting component is concerned, the diameter of the disc must be suitable for the dimensions of the machine and the thickness of the material being cut. The standard value is usually 12-13 cm. The disc itself is put on the shaft, which is attached to the engine. The main part of the disc is inside the machine, and only a small part of it is visible on the surface.

As a result of all these manipulations, a mini circular saw is obtained. When working with it, you must follow the safety rules. During its assembly, it is imperative to check whether all fasteners are tightened well, and at the time of operation, the engine must be constantly blown with cold air to avoid overheating.
