Gasoline and oil proportions for the brushcutter

Oil for lawn mower brands Husqvarna, STIHL. the proportion of mixing with gasoline, how much to add and what oil to use, video

Lawn mowers are a popular technique for controlling weeds. How to fill two-stroke trimmers for grass? What ratio of petrol and oil is considered to be the norm?? How much oil should be added to 1 liter of gasoline? How to choose the ratio for your model?

Often there are problems with the proportions of oil and fuel for the reliable operation of a brushcutter. The reason for everything. completely different information in the sources. It is possible to meet with a difference in the ratio by ten units, and sometimes by half. So you can’t help wondering how much oil you need for 1 liter of gasoline: 20 ml or all 40 ml. But for this there is a technical passport for the product, which you buy in the store. There should be a description of the device, instructions for its operation and instructions on how to prepare the fuel mixture.

It is the manufacturer’s recommendation that is the first point to consider: if your brushcutter breaks down, you can make a claim against the manufacturer and not a third party. If there is no instruction in the passport, and moreover, if there is no passport, it is recommended to look for another grass trimmer model from a more reliable seller.

For all other cases, when you have a lawnmower model in your hands and there is no way to find out its technical features, there are standard proportions of the most likely components of the fuel mixture for a two-stroke engine. Basically for these units are used gasoline AI-92 and a special synthetic oil, which contains a solvent for better mixing with fuel. Such oil evaporates slowly and has the ability to burn completely in the cylinder, leaving no fouling.

The standard ratio of synthetic oil to gasoline is 1: 50. This means that you need 100 ml of oil for 5 liters of gasoline, and according to this the oil consumption per 1 liter of gasoline is 20 ml. Knowing the amount of oil needed to dilute 1 liter of fuel, you can easily calculate any rates when preparing fuel for grass trimmer. When using mineral oils, most often the standard ratio is 1: 40. It is therefore necessary to use 25 ml for 1 liter of fuel and 125 ml for a 5 liter canister.

During the operation of the lawnmower, a person with little experience in operating such equipment, will not be difficult to determine and adjust the actual amount of oil needed for a particular model. You should only pay attention to the exhaust gases (their color, toxicity of odor), the stability of cycles, engine heating and the power developed. about what consequences from improper proportions of gasoline and oil mixing can be expected in another section of the article. There are versions of brushcutters that run on gasoline AI-95. This must also be taken into account.

If the manufacturer recommends a fuel with this octane rating, you should follow the recommendation so as not to reduce the service life of the machine.

Grass trimmer use in the garden

In modern conditions, the purpose of the grass trimmer is to care for the lawn and the site as a whole. Unlike a traditional machine for mowing the lawn, the grass trimmer has profitable differences:

High mobility. Enables use in hard-to-reach and confined spaces.

Versatility. Working tools change depending on the type of vegetation, so you can cut grass of any height and hardness.

Easy design. With timely maintenance, the grass trimmer does not require regular adjustments, frequent repairs.

When choosing a grass trimmer, analyze the operating conditions of the unit, which will help make the right selection on the type and power of the engine.

Types of brushcutters

Now on liquid profile trading platforms, there is a great choice of appliances for mowing grass, small bushes and hedges. For example, there are lawn mowers with an electronic engine, with gasoline propulsion systems. The brushcutters equipped with a diesel engine are NOT produced, because they have a low revolution speed.

Liquid statistics show the advantage of brushcutters with internal combustion engines over their electronic counterparts. The electric brushcutter is used in places where there is a fixed electronic network.

Oil requirements

The mixture of gasoline and oil that is chosen for the brushcutter must meet the necessary requirements specified in the manual. It is important to note that domestic manufacturers often label their products slightly differently from the American or Japanese classification. Russian lubricant manufacturers, as a rule, put the 2T marking on all oils intended for two-stroke engines. It is not uncommon to find oil cans on the shelves that have “o” or “pre mix” written on them. In the first case it means that the oil does not require any additional manipulations, you just pour petrol and oil into one container, and mixing takes place without human intervention. In the second case, respectively, it is necessary to shake or shake the mixture to bring it to the desired consistency.

As you can see, the existence of different classifications of lubricants suggests that the use of oils in two-stroke engines is necessary. This is due to the fact that the fuel mixture without lubricant fairly quickly put the engine out of operation, which will not be lubricated properly. Gasoline and oil form the necessary medium, which reduces detonation, removes superfluous waste (waste products from the combustion of gasoline) and protects the engine interior from wear.

It is important to remember that using the wrong oil classification can lead to engine damage or clogging. Of course, it can be repaired, but in order to prevent possible breakdowns, and to reduce their probability to a minimum, it will be better to study the instruction manual, learn the volume of the two-stroke engine installed on the brushcutter, and use only gasoline and oil, which will fit all the parameters of this model.

Quite often in the recommendations section (and sometimes on the label), the manufacturer specifies the partner companies whose gasoline and oil it recommends to fill its models. Most often, the fuel and lubricant recommended by the manufacturer will suit the grass trimmer best.

First of all, you should immediately exclude from the list of actively used lubricants all oils of unknown (garage, basement) origin. Usually it is not easy to dilute such oils because of the unclear base, composition. As a rule, the labels of non-branded producers do not contain much information, giving only general data, without specifying. It is not recommended to dilute and dilute such oils as AC-10 and ACZp-10. The origin of these lubricants is usually very vague, it is better to give preference to proven brands that are used every day by thousands of people across the country.

A distinctive feature of all oils for two-stroke engines is the fact that manufacturers paint them in a color that contrasts with gasoline. The fluid is translucent, viscous, slightly yellowish, but not thick. There are usually three colors involved. red, green and blue.

Do not forget that the color scheme does not influence the classification in any way (as it is often the case with antifreeze).

Under no circumstances should you use oils from a line not designed for the grass trimmer. This can be extremely detrimental to the operation of the power unit, leading to increased fuel consumption, fouling of the spark plugs, and a variety of other problems that will need to be identified and corrected. It should be noted that if the fact of using oil that is not included in the tolerance is established, the seller has the full right to remove the machine from the warranty. This means that the replacement of defective parts will have to be at your own expense, and no exceptions won’t help here.

If the fluid you have purchased is not of the quality you claim (for example, too thin), do not mix it with petrol under any circumstances. The best way is to return the oil to the store, explaining the return reason to the seller.

Features of brushcutter oiling

Depending on the engine design, brushcutters are divided into two-stroke and four-stroke versions. In the first case, the piston in the internal combustion engine makes 2 strokes per working cycle, and in the second case. 4 strokes. Differences in the working principle of the engine and different approaches to filling trimmer for grass.

Filling brushcutters with two-stroke engine

Household trimmer models usually have a two-stroke engine. The lawnmower does not need very much power and agility, so it is quite suitable for the task at hand. In addition, this engine is much cheaper and simpler, but it is fueled by a fuel mixture consisting of oil and gasoline. This fuel is fed to the carburettor and into the cylinder as a petrol-oil mist. The oil thus lubricates all parts you need and is combined with petrol when the engine is running. But the mixture burns and emits a noxious smell and smoke, which increases the toxicity of the exhaust fumes.

Important! You should use a special oil for two-stroke engines to fill these brushcutter heads, as this oil burns completely without leaving any deposits and has very low volatility. To mix well with petrol. it contains 20% thinner.

Fueling a brushcutter with a four-stroke engine

Four-stroke engines are used in professional brushcutter models. They have great power and run for a long time without stopping and refuelling. They also use gasoline and oil as fuels, but they are filled into different tanks. That means that the oil is not part of the combustion process, making the exhaust fumes less toxic.

As a side note! In addition to better environmental performance and less heat, four-stroke brushcutter engines are also more economical. They use much less fuel. savings up to 50% on gasoline and 80% on oil.

How many motor types there are

When choosing a grass trimmer by motor type, there are some features to consider. Aggregates with electric units have significant limitations in terms of supplying power to the motor. The diesel engines are not available for trimmers, as on power tillers, taking into account the low rpm.

Consider the specifics of the gasoline engines used:

Two-stroke cycle. Structurally it is simpler. When servicing is demanding on the quality of the working mixture. any deviations lead to a shortening of the engine life.

Four-stroke cycle. No need to maintain a clear ratio of petrol and lawnmower oil. the mixture is formed automatically, and working fluids are in two different containers. The product appears more expensive, but runs quieter and the exhaust gases are cleaner.

Regardless of the type of gasoline engine selected, oil and gasoline selection is strictly based on the recommendations of individual manufacturers.

How to dilute petrol and oil for trimmer

Dilute gasoline for grass trimmer must be in the correct proportion. An insufficient amount of oil can lead to poor lubrication of the lawnmower elements, which contributes to rapid wear and tear.

To know the right ratio, consult the user manual of your trimmer. Most often it is equal to 1:25, 1:40, 1:50. To obtain these proportions, 40 ml, 25 ml and 20 ml of oil should be added to 1 liter of gasoline, respectively.

Do not mix gasoline and lubricant directly in the fuel tank, in addition the proportion of oil and gasoline must be strictly observed. If you ignore this rule, the work of the grass trimmer engine can be unstable, due to which it will quickly fail.

It is not recommended to use plastic bottles or canisters for this purpose. This is due to the fact that gasoline tends to dissolve plastic, which means that some of the plastic can get into the fuel tank, which can lead to carburetor failure. Although there are special plastic canisters marked “flame”.

  • gasoline;
  • oil suitable for two-stroke engines with air cooling system;
  • A canister, preferably metal;
  • a container for mixing, also better a metal one;
  • gloves;
  • respirator.

Make a mixture of gasoline and oil as follows:

  • Pour 1 liter of gasoline into the container, add half of the required portion of oil. Stir thoroughly, and do it very carefully away from sources of open flame.
  • Add the rest of the oil to the gasoline for the grass trimmer and mix thoroughly again. Now the fuel can be poured into the fuel tank of the grass trimmer.

The mixture can be stored for up to three months, so it is better to dilute the gasoline in such an amount that is enough for several uses.

For dilution, you can only use high-quality oil, and it is recommended to buy it only in reputable stores, such as specialized hypermarkets.

Fuel

It remains to choose what gasoline to fill the trimmer for grass. There is not much choice. AI-92 and AI-95. The difference between them is quite significant. If the manufacturer’s instructions do not specify what gasoline to use, you must stop at AI-92. It almost does not depend on the brand of gasoline, how much oil to add per liter of gasoline, if the fuel is of high quality and fully complies with the declared brand. Buy petrol only at branded filling stations, where the risk of buying A-80 instead of AI-92 is almost zero.

If it is recommended to use AI-95, do not use other brands of gasoline. If the engine starts, it will work irregularly and overheat quickly. So you run the risk of damaging not only the motor of a domestic trimmer for grass, but also a professional one.

How to dilute petrol with oil for grass trimmer if you under or overfill the oil

If you have bought a trimmer for the grass, lawnmower, brush cutter, chainsaw and other types of equipment, you probably know that two-stroke motors are used as power units on them. These motors do not run on pure gasoline, as four-stroke engines, but on a mixture of gasoline and oil. What percentage of petrol should be diluted with oil for trimmer grass. this is the question every dacha owner asks himself before preparing the tool for work. In this issue, let’s understand in detail, as the dilution of gasoline with oil for grass trimmer affects the service life of the tool, and improper preparation of the mixture, will lead to rapid engine wear. How too much or not enough oil in the grass trimmer gasoline is dangerous:

  • If the petrol is diluted with a lot of oil (above the norm) it will lead not only to a large amount of smoke, but also to the formation of carbon deposits on the cylinder walls and a decrease in power.This soot will cause piston wear and tear, which will be diagnosed by a decrease in performance
  • If the gasoline does not contain enough oil in the grass trimmer, it is even more dangerous.After all, the working mechanisms of the engine will not be lubricated in sufficient quantity, which will eventually lead to their rapid wear (there is a rapid destruction of piston rings and jamming of the engine). If the amount of oil in the gasoline in the grass trimmer is insufficient, the wear and tear of the motor will occur ten times faster
gasoline, proportions, brushcutter

To avoid having to pay for mistakes at the cost of an engine overhaul or buying a new tool, you need to fill the tank with fuel of the right consistency from day one. You can find out the ratio in the instruction manual of the tool, since the models of different manufacturers may give different recommendations. Usually this ratio is the following norms:

  • 1 to 25 or 40 grams of two-stroke oil per 1 liter of gasoline
  • 1 to 40 or 25-30 grams of grease per one liter of gasoline
  • 1 to 50. this is 20 grams of oil per one liter of petrol

The standard value is considered 1 to 50 (indicated on canisters of oil for two-stroke engines), but it should be relied on in the most extreme case, as manufacturers indicate the recommended value of the proportion, and if it is not observed, the operational life of the two-stroke motor is reduced.

In addition to following the proportions, it is also necessary to learn how to prepare the mixture. In fact, the variant of oil refilling in a gas tank, is categorically contraindicated, though some people do so. If you bought a grass trimmer or lawnmower, you’ll need the consumables you’ll use to make the mixture. To prepare the fuel mixture for your weed trimmer, follow the instructions below:

  • Prepare gasoline and two-stroke oil, based on the above recommendations on the choice of lubricant and fuel
  • To prepare the mixture you also need a container or containers. Usually a plastic bottle is used for this, and you need to choose the right one for your needs. It must be clean on the inside. It is not recommended to use containers for milk, beer or other drinks. Mineral water tank is the best choice
  • It is very important that the container has a whole value of volume, that is, 1 or 2 liters, so that you do not have to calculate how much oil to pour in a bottle of 1.5 liters, 1.3 or 1.25 liters, because you can easily make a mistake
  • You also need a syringe, which is used as a measuring device for dosing the oil. For such purposes an ordinary medical syringe of 10 cubic meters or more is suitable. It is desirable that the syringe has an accurate measuring scale
  • After preparing the necessary materials, you can begin preparation

Instructions on how to prepare the fuel mixture into the lawnmower:

    Fill the plastic container first. The container should be filled two fingers under, so that the oil will fit

After preparing the fuel mixture for the grass trimmer, it remains to fill up the tool, and proceed to work. How to properly fuel grass trimmers, lawnmowers, chainsaws and other types of motor equipment, let’s consider in detail.

ДFor diluting and using in the trimmer only fresh gasoline is used.

How to dilute gasoline and oil for grass trimmer for refueling

Two-stroke engines of the tool work due to the gasoline-oil mixture, which is prepared in the proportions that are specified in the technical certificate of the device. If you ignore the rules of mixing, the garden tool can quickly fail.

The operation of the two-stroke unit is different from that of the four-stroke engines: the lubrication of the rubbing surfaces in the crankshaft and other parts of the device is carried out not from the crankcase, but through oil that has been previously diluted with gasoline. For two-stroke types of engines, the general rule of preparing a combustible mixture applies. gasoline is diluted with a certain volume of oil intended for this purpose.

How to dilute gasoline with oil for grass trimmer. step by step instructions

Mixing of the fuel composition takes place taking into account special proportions.

If you dilute the fuel mixture with not enough lubricant, it will lead to rapid wear of lawnmower parts

See your trimmer manual for the optimum oil to gasoline ratio. As a rule, it is equal to 1:50, 1:40 or 1:25.

gasoline, proportions, brushcutter

Dilute gasoline with the lubricating component must first be in a suitable container: it is forbidden to do it immediately in the fuel tank. If you ignore this rule, the work of the motor can be inconsistent, as a result of which the tool will quickly fail. To dilute the fuel mixture, do not use plastic canisters or bottles, because gasoline is capable of dissolving this synthetic material. Order of mixing the fuel:

  • Pour one liter of gasoline into a container (preferably a metal canister).
  • Add half of the required oil proportion.
  • Mix fluids thoroughly, away from open flames.
  • Add the rest of the lubricant to the container and mix the mixture again.
  • Pour fuel into the fuel tank of the grass trimmer.

Wear a respirator and rubber gloves when working. You can use a watering can for easy pouring. It is better to dilute only as much fuel as you need for the work you plan to do in the near future. Always choose high-quality oil for mixing with gasoline, it is better to buy it at a trusted gas station.

Proportions of oils and fuel

To calculate the ratio of ingredients for grass trimmer oil you should follow the recommendations on the oil package. The standard ratio is 1:50. Any quality oil for two-stroke engines may be used.

Rules for mixing

To prepare the fuel mixture, use a clean and dry container that is free of foreign matter or contaminants. Do not use plastic containers. After adding liquids in the required proportion, the mixture should be stirred thoroughly for 2-3 minutes. Do not do the following:

  • Add a small amount of oil directly into the gas tank of the brushcutter, as this will not give a homogeneous mixture;
  • Add oil first, then petrol. Due to the difference in densities, this order of adding components also results in an uneven mixture4
  • Measuring components “by eye”. With this approach, it will not be possible to achieve the exact proportion of gasoline and oil for grass trimmer 1/50 or 1/40;
  • Use polyethylene bottles, since the latter are dissolved by gasoline.

Rules for storing the mixture

You need a dark, dry place for the remaining unused fuel mixture where it can stay for up to 2 months. In general, there are different expert opinions on this matter:

  • For mineral oils the shelf life is 7-10 days, after which they lose their lubricating properties;
  • for semi-synthetic and synthetic grades there is data that they keep from 30 days to 2 months.

After a longer period it is recommended to change the fuel to a fresher and newer one.

This is how to get the petrol mix for a two-stroke brushcutter engine properly diluted. To avoid breakdowns of the grass trimmer as a result of insufficient oil or frequent cleaning and unstable operation due to excessive lubrication, you should carefully read the instructions for the lawnmower and scrupulously follow it.

How to mix

If you do not have a special measuring canister with divisions, which is included in every noteworthy grass trimmer, or such a container is lost, then use any suitable container. A glass or metal container is best. Plastic is also usable, but you have to choose a bottle with rigid walls.

The container must be a multiple of 1 liter. You can take a 1.5 liter bottle, but practice shows that it is not very convenient. You also need a syringe, preferably about 20-50 ml. First you fill the canister with petrol, then add a precisely measured amount of oil (by volume). Do not change the sequence of operations.

If you have “pre-mix” oil, you can close the bottle or canister with the lid, turn it upside down a few times and shake it vigorously. If the oil is “self-mixed” it will dissolve on its own. The prepared mixture must be used for a day. If you know how much fuel the grass trimmer consumes for a certain amount of work (or time), it is not difficult to calculate the amount of mixture. Otherwise, before each filling, dilute the new fuel so you have a minimum amount left over.

Rules for blending

And now about how to mix the components correctly. However, it would be more logical to start with analysis of common, but totally unacceptable mistakes, which many owners of this mower “sin” with. The following actions are considered to be mistakes in mixing the fuel mixture.

  • Adding oil to the fuel in the trimmer’s gas tank. It will not be possible to obtain a homogeneous fuel mixture in such a way. It may work, if only then shake the grass trimmer for a long time. But I doubt that someone will do it, considering the weight of the machine.
  • First pour oil into the mixing tank, and then add gasoline to it. Gasoline has a lower density than oil, so if it is poured over oil, it will remain in the upper layer, i.e., there will be no natural mixing. Of course, you can mix it later, but it will take much more energy than if you do it the other way around. pouring oil to the poured gasoline.
  • Ignoring precise measuring tools to take the necessary volumes of ingredients used. In other words, diluting the amount of oil or gasoline “by eye” is a bad habit when operating motor vehicles.
  • Use empty drinking water bottles for fuel mixture preparation. Such containers are made of too thin polyethylene, which can be dissolved by gasoline.

Taking all the above mentioned into account, we recommend to use the following rules when mixing the fuel mixture for two-stroke engines of grass trimmer.

  • Use only clean containers made of metal or special plastic for storing gasoline, oil, ready fuel mixture and its preparation.
  • Use a watering can to fill petrol into the expansion tank to avoid spillage, and a measuring cup with volume markings or a 5 ml and 10 ml medical syringe to add oil.
  • Pour gasoline into the fuel mixture canister first, and then oil.
  • To dilute the mixture, first pour only half of the planned volume of gasoline into the container.
  • Next add to the petrol all the oil required for the mixture.
  • Thoroughly mix the contents of the dilution container. it is best to stir in a tightly closed container in a circular motion. It is not known what kind of material it is made of, what kind of reaction it may have with the ingredients in the mixture and how clean it is.
  • Add the rest of the gasoline to the stirred mixture and stir thoroughly again.
  • It is possible to fill the fuel tank of the lawnmower with a prepared mixture.

It should be borne in mind that the prepared fuel mixture should not be stored for more than 14 days, as it loses its properties, stratifies and evaporates, which leads to changes in the proportions, and thus deteriorates the work of the grass trimmer.
