Review of MaxPower aftermarket high lift blade for Honda HRX-217

I got this blade for bagging, as I’ve never felt that the twin blade bags well whatsoever. I did try using just the bottom blade with a couple extra washers for spacers, and the results weren’t too bad. It absolutely bagged better that it did with both blades and left less stragglers. Mulching wasn’t as good obviously, but I will say that using just the single lower blade does better at mulching than the twin blade does at bagging. If given the choice, I would run the the lower blade only if I wanted a do all mower as a solo guy.

Now, I will start off by saying that the MaxPower high lift blade allows the Honda HRX-217 to bag as well as any bagging mower that I’ve ever used. It literally packs grass and leaves into the bag like a brick, that’s sorta difficult to shake loose if you pack it too hard. It require no spacers or washers. You siply remove the BS Honda twin blade and put this bad beotch on. My God is this a great product. It leaves zero stragglers, bags like a true high vac blade, and it mulches not too bad. It leaves less clumps than the twin blade on wet grass, but it also leaves longer clippings on dry grass.

Conclusion: If I only wanted to run one mower as a solo, I would not even consider Honda‘s silly twin blade. This turns the Honda HRX into a killer bagger and you still get that awesome Honda reliability, cheap parts, and big power from the HRX 200CC motor. I plan on running two HRX mowers. One with the MaxPower high lift blade and one stock with the twin blade. I’me in a market where anything bigger than a 30″ is a waste of money, so this will be my new set up.

No gloves

Thought about that, but using a couple washers was a lot quicker for me, as the only thing I have that would easily cut a blade like that for me would be a cut off wheel or a sawzall.

So as I stated in another thread, I am doing a review of the MaxPower high lift blade sold through Home Depot for the Honda HRX-217

I have been running one of these blades under my Honda HRC 216 pusher this season. The mower has plenty of juice for my use for it, but the oem “HL” blade sucked more than any other blade I have ever used. It simply wouldn’t cut anywhere near clean at 3″ or higher, and I cut everything at 3.5″.This mower sat for most of last year and this spring because the cut was so poor and it left clumps in wet grass.

I got this new blade early this season and what a HUGE difference. Now it cuts cleanly at 3.5″ and spreads clippings out so nicely even when wet. This should be the oem blade under a Honda.

Well, at the begining of the season, I bought a Honda HRX 21 inch mower. This was a totally splurge and I came from TroyBuilt TB360 which was a fine mower. But, my mom needed a new mower, so I thought it was a good time to upgrade. Still, it was little more than I wanted to spend, but oh well.

I used it about 10 times or maybe more. I had a chance on using it in different scenarios. grass little wet. mulch it, long grass, shorter grass.etc. and I have to say that I am convinced, that the quality of the mower plays a significant part on how good the lawn looks. TB360 mower was not a bad mower at all. I liked it, but until I got my hands on this Honda, there is no comparison. First, the mulching is million times better on Honda due to it having 2 blades. The clippings are finely shredded, which it helps in the mower not clogging up, even if the grass is little wet. This thing does AMAZING job with it. With TB360, I would be trailing bunch of clumped up grass. Second, the bag fills up lot more efficient. It fills up full. It’s not even close between the two mowers. But, the bag has an issue. It is too big to fit in a paper lawn bag. Where TB360 bag fit nicely in the paper bag and it was easy to dump the clippings, the Honda is a total pain in the ass. I finally bought one of those things that you put in a bag and it allows for easier transfer of clippings. Oh well.

My grass has never looked so good. It looks sharp and super even. It looks healthy. I cut at 3 inches, with mulching almost always, unless it’s so long that there is no way for me to do it. I installed stripping kit that I had on TroyBuilt mower. it’s working out great so far. Sometimes I get little crazy with it.

Overall, I am super happy with this mower. I believe it made a huge difference in the way my lawn looks and how it’s cut. I use my old mower on my mom’s lawn and it’s a night and day difference between the two.
