How much oil to fill a VIKING cultivator

Oils for power tillers: what oils are suitable and how much should be poured

The presence of quality elements in any machine is the key to its smooth and trouble-free operation for a long time. But it is also important to have oil to lubricate the machine. Without oil the engine will not last long and the entire single axle tractor will soon have to be replaced or repaired. Oil is essential to keep all systems and components working without chafing. It allows to improve working capacity and increase service life.

Oil must be chosen according to its intended use. Different lubricants are available for the engine, transmission, and also for the gearbox. Plus you have to consider what fuel the engine runs on (gasoline or diesel). Also, some manufacturers specify right away what oil a person should pour into a single-axle tractor. If you don’t follow their recommendations, you can significantly reduce the service life of your equipment.

To understand what oil to pour in a single-axle tractor, it is necessary to understand their types. The first division of oils is carried out by the type of engine. two or four-stroke. Next comes the difference in composition. semi-synthetic or synthetic. Also oils are distinguished by the season in which they will be used. summer, winter and multigrade. Only taking into account all factors, you can choose a lubricant that is suitable for the motoblock.

What oil to fill in the gearbox of your power tiller??

The gearbox can be filled with the transmission oil specified by the equipment manufacturer or chosen from an available list. If the manufacturer does not specify that you can not use, then the oil is chosen according to the parameters of the device. In order to choose an oil you should look at alphabetic and numeric designations. What can be found on the oil bottle:

  • SAE. oil viscosity. On the package is the letter W, with minus temperatures on the left and plus temperatures on the right. So you can understand at what time of year and under what temperature conditions the lubricant will work well.
  • API. type of engine fuel. If there is a letter S next to it, it is for gasoline engines, and if there is a letter C, it is for diesel 4-stroke engines.
  • ACEA. energy-saving index. If you have a high load on your power tool, it is better to use oil with the maximum exponent. The higher the numbers, the more resistant the equipment is to wear.

There are some of the most common types of oil:

  • 10w30, 10w40. multi-grade, has high rust-preventing properties.
  • 0w30, 0w40. suitable for use in winter.
  • 15w40, 20w40. used for high temperatures.
  • 5w30, 5w40. all-season, can be used if it’s not below.25 deg.

There are also “win-win” options. If the package is marked with paired letters. SG/CD or SF/CC, the grease is suitable for any power tiller with any fuel.

Taking into account that motor blocks are used more often in summer, the all-season or corrosion-resistant oils are in demand, which prolongs the service life of machinery. The oil manufacturer, can be anything, but often the brands on the shelves are ZIC, Mobil, Shell Helix and Castrol, which have shown good value for money.

TRANSMISSION OIL

Check the gear oil level every 50 hours of operation. All VIKING models (VIKING) have a dipstick for measuring the transmission oil level. Before removing the dipstick, wipe the area around the hole, then pull out the dipstick.The transmission oil level should be parallel to the mark on the dipstick. Add 80 W 90 HYPOY-C oil through the filler plug to the correct level. DO NOT OVERFILL. Carefully reinsert the dipstick.

Change gear oil after the first 20 hours of operation or after 2 full loads of fuel. Then change the oil every 100 hours of operation. Drain the used oil into a suitable container and dispose of properly.

When draining the oil, make sure you remove any metal particles that might stick to the drain plug’s magnet. They form as a result of the gear wheels rubbing against each other during the running-in phase. Fit the plug firmly in place.

Fill 80 W 90 HYPOY-C gear oil through the filler hole and check the level with the dipstick. The level should match the mark on the dipstick. Oil consumption 1.1 л. DO NOT OVERFILL!

If overfilled, oil can squeeze out through the vent, contaminating the brake pads and causing brake system failure.

FILTERS

Kohler Aegis engines are equipped with a heavy-duty, dense paper air filter surrounding the cylindrical core. Clean filter is not recommended, dirty filter must be replaced.

For instructions on removing, cleaning, and replacing air filter components, see the “Air Cleaner” section of the engine manual.

All VIKING models are equipped with a line fuel filter. The filter is located in the gasoline line near the gas tank.

Replace the fuel filter every 250 hours of operation or once a year. To do this, loosen the fasteners with a narrow screwdriver and remove the rubber fuel hoses from the filter. Install new filter with the arrow pointing toward the engine. Tighten the fasteners. Start the engine and check for leaks.

Replace the oil filter during the running-in period when changing the oil. Then change the oil filter every 50 hours.

Before installing the new filter, lubricate the rubber filter seal with fresh machine oil. Screw in the filter by hand until the seal is in contact with the filter spigot. Tighten by ½ more. ¾ turn. Start the engine to check for leaks. Shut off the engine and check the oil level. Fill up with oil if necessary.

Special Care

There are a large number of very different power tillers, each of which has its own features, specific characteristics and other differences, so you can pick up exactly the kind of equipment for the care of your plot, which seems to you the most attractive.

However, it is worth bearing in mind that like any other technique, power tillers Sadko, Don, Huter, Profi, LANDER, Champion, Carver, Husqvarna, Lifan 6.5 and others require constant care, proper use and good attitude. After all, this unit is very similar to a car, so the care of it should correspond to.

What kind of grease should be used??

There are two types of grease for power tillers:

In connection with this, it is necessary to fill the fuel of exactly the kind recommended by the manufacturer, taking into account the number of strokes of a particular brand of power tiller. The most widespread in recent years are synthetic and semi-synthetic oils that are perfectly suitable for use in the engines of power tillers. In specialized stores the buyer in a range of different types of foreign and domestic production.

Fuel consumption of the cultivator

Many parameters influence how much fuel a cultivator uses. The main ones are power and weight, but the type of soil also plays a role. Medium and light cultivators with 2 to 4 liters.с. On average, they consume 1-1,5 liters of gasoline per hour. The 2-stroke engine uses more fuel. Much less energy is obtained from the combustion of the petrol and oil mixture, and part of the fuel escapes into the atmosphere. Do not stock up on fuel. This applies to both the petrol and the blend. Manufacturers usually indicate that it is not recommended to use fuel that has been idle for more than 30 days. If you use a fuel mixture, it is recommended that you shake it up before each use.

Lubricate the gearbox as much as possible. Even noises can be eliminated if lubricants are replenished. But it is necessary to be as careful as possible in choosing a suitable brand of lubricant, contaminated compositions are unacceptable.

It is worth bearing in mind that extraneous sounds are often associated with poor tightening of fasteners, with wear of bearings and gears. To disassemble the gearbox, you must:

  • remove it;
  • unscrew the screws;
  • Remove the protective covers;
  • pull out the output shaft sleeve;
  • disconnect the lever and then the fork;
  • remove the primary shaft (in close connection with the gears);
  • remove shaft and chain bushings
  • dismantle the shaft and sprocket assembly;
  • remove the intermediate shaft and gears;
  • Remove the clutch, half axles (reassemble in reverse order).

Lubricants reviews by users

Specialists advise to use only original materials, the characteristics of which meet the requirements of the manufacturer. If these are absent, you should clarify than to lubricate the gearbox trimmer for grass. Experienced users do not advise the use of solidol, because this material is not suitable for the temperature and speed characteristics of the unit, as well as the consistency. also the given material does not have antiwear properties.

The working temperature range of solidol. from minus 40 to 65 degrees, but even at such parameters in the process of heating the density of the material increases, and the grease itself becomes coarse. In case of urgent need to treat the tool you can use “Lithol-24”.

Change of oil in a power tiller engine

Working life of the engine of an agricultural unit depends not only on the quality of its components and assembly, but also on how properly and how often you change the engine oil. Adhering to the manufacturer’s recommendations, you can extend the life of the unit and save it from the typical breakdowns.

Changing the lubricant in a power tiller must be done by first warming up the engine of the machine. To change oil in your power tiller engine you need to proceed in the following order:

  • First place the machine in a horizontal position. The oil fill and drain holes are always on the left side of the power tiller engine. The remaining oil inside the engine must be drained through the drain hole, which is closed with a conical plug that has a thread. If the plug is screwed in too tightly, it can be unscrewed with a long screwdriver;
  • Put a wide container of at least 2 liters under the drain hole, and slowly unscrew the plug. After removing the plug wait 10 minutes until the lubricant has completely drained from the engine of your MotoBlock;
  • After that, screw in the oil drain plug, and start pouring in new engine oil. It is best if you choose 10W40 synthetic or mineral based oil as the new composition. Its volume should be equal to the amount of oil previously drained.

Change the lubricant in the engine of the motorblock should be changed at least once every 25-30 hours of operation. If you don’t use the machine very often and it takes roughly the same amount of time to do all the work, you can change the oil once a year. Remember that if you do not have time to work 30 hours per season, then the oil still needs to be changed, because the properties of the composition noticeably deteriorate during the downtime of the motoblock.

If you have just purchased a single axle tractor, then you need to change the lubricant in its motor after the first 5 hours of operation of the unit. The fact is that after the assembly of new motor blocks the small debris left inside the engine gets into the oil, which leads to jamming of the engine and the appearance of minor damage. In order for the motor of a new machine to be completely clean, the oil in it needs to be changed three more times. twice after 5 hours of operation, and the third time after 10 hours.

Use of automotive oil

Changing the lubricant in any engine is an extremely important task, because otherwise there is no way to ensure the quality and long operation of all engine systems. Directly on the quality of the poured lubricant and depends on the service life of the cultivator, so it is not recommended to use automotive oil.

Do not forget that replacement of the lubricant is much cheaper than buying new parts for the machine.

How to change oil in the engine of cultivator, see below.

The most suitable oils for your power tiller

SAE viscosity grade for upper temperatures should not exceed 30 units for moderate climates and 40 units. for hot regions. The viscosity index of the lower temperature viscosity should not be more than 10W.

For severe temperature conditions, it is recommended to use an oil with lower viscosity

The following oils meet such parameters: 10W30, 5W30, 0W30, 5W40, 10W40 on synthetic or semi-synthetic base. If we consider strictly summer modifications, then suitable synthetic or semi-synthetic lubricants SAE 30 or SAE 40. Oil quality according to API for the four-stroke engine of your power tiller should not be lower than SG.

It should be understood that almost all the specific requirements that apply to motor liquid lubricants for motor blocks with 4-stroke engine, meet automotive lubricants of well-known brands.

The difference may be in the consumption and amount of fouling that inevitably forms during operation in all air-cooled engines.

Despite the identity of the physical and technical parameters of car lubricants to the specialized oils for power tillers, in practice it is desirable to use the type and brand recommended in the datasheet of the unit. This is connected with the peculiarities of engine construction for cultivators and their specific mode of operation in conditions of high ambient temperature background.

Changing the oil in your Moto-Block with your own hands

The first oil change in the engine of your Moto-Block should be done after the running-in period, which should be done at idling speed with a strict control. The second one. after an hour of machine work under load.

Subsequent maintenance is recommended every 40 hours of use.

  • Warm up the motor.
  • Position the machine on a level surface.
  • Put in the used oil pail.
  • Open the fill and drain port.
  • Drain the lubricant.
  • Screw in the drain plug.
  • Pour new oil.
  • Close fill hole.
  • Allow it to stand.
  • Using a feeler gauge, measure the level of grease and top up if necessary.

Start the engine and check for leaks.

Change oil in a gearbox according to the same scheme and in the same sequence.
