How to cut a doorway in a concrete wall

The next method is laser cutting.

Previously, laser equipment was only used in exceptional cases, because its dimensions were very large. But now the equipment is much more compact. So it is now used more often. However, due to the high cost of the equipment, it has not yet become widespread.

The concrete wall is cut with a laser cutter. Before you start the work, you must first measure the thickness of the wall, it is necessary to know whether there are communications. When you start this kind of cutting, you can moisten the wall.

There are no disadvantages to laser cutting. All works are carried out by one worker, for a short time. Almost no dust, minimal noise, exact edges of opening.

But, as indicated earlier, the significant cost of the equipment does not allow the use of such a method in mass.

Device options

If there is a need to create an opening in the concrete wall, then it can be done in several ways, each of them has its pros and cons.

Diamond cutting

This is the most popular and widespread way of creating an opening in a concrete wall. Diamond cutting has these advantages:

  • During the work, there is minimal danger to the wall;
  • Since in this case there is little vibration, there is little risk of cracking;
  • It is possible to perform the opening exactly along the marked lines;
  • During the work, minimal noise is created;
  • not much dust and dirt is generated.

Despite the large number of advantages, this method has a number of disadvantages:

Cutting with water

The waterjet method of cutting is less popular, in this case the work is done with a powerful jet of water and sand.

First, water is fed into the tank, where it is mixed with sand, then under high pressure through a nozzle with a diameter of about 0.4 mm, the mixture is fed to the place of the cutting.

A special water separator is used to damp down the residual force of the jet.

Work with waterjet cutting equipment should be carefully, because the speed of the water jet reaches 1000 m/s.

By regulating the pressure of the water jet, it is possible to remove part of the concrete or make a through hole.

The main advantages of waterjet cutting are the following:

  • the cut is accurate and precise;
  • During this cutting, the material is not heated, so no harmful gases and vapors are formed; there is no strong noise and vibration;
  • You can make an opening at any angle;
  • it is possible to create an opening of any complex shape.

The disadvantages of waterjet cutting should include:

Laser cutting

In this case, the work is carried out with equipment that has a thick-walled lance in the form of a pipe, through which oxygen is supplied.

The lance is heated to a temperature of 1400 degrees, and at its end the temperature reaches 2000 degrees. This method of creating openings in a concrete wall is popularly referred to as laser cutting.

When using oxygen lance cutting, when the lance comes into contact with the concrete wall, its temperature is overlapped by the resistance of refractory slag, so the wall does not oxidize, does not exude heat, and after removing the lance, it quickly cools down.

The specified work is recommended to carry out not reciprocating, but rotating movements, which creates a drilling effect, but it is necessary to ensure that the tube is not extinguished.

The disadvantage of this method is that during the work molten particles of slag disperse, so the worker must wear a special protective suit.

Penetrating with a peorator and angle grinder

If the concrete wall is not very thick, the aperture in it can be made with the help of a peorator and a powerful angle grinder.

To make such an opening in a load-bearing wall will be very difficult and will require a lot of time.

In this case first of all we need to make holes with a diameter of 10-12 mm every 3-4 cm in the concrete wall with the servo knife, and then the concrete is cut with an angle grinder with a diamond wheel.

How to enlarge the doorway

It is often necessary to widen the doorway. Inexperienced home masters take for this angle grinder with a diamond wheel and use it to cut off the extra wall.

But this method is suitable only if the work is carried out in a non-residential room in which there is no furniture and not made repairs, this is due to the fact that during such work, a lot of dust and dirt is formed.

There is a simpler way to enlarge the doorway, with which little dust and dirt is generated.

According to the outlined contour, using peoratora do close together holes, then using a chisel and hammer remove crosspieces and quietly remove the unnecessary section of the wall, then do plastered or gypsum plasterboard slopes.

How to determine the choice of tool?

Parameters to consider when widening and drilling openings in concrete

  • The cover material. In a concrete layer, cutting gives a completely even cut, unlike in brickwork.
  • Layout of load-bearing walls and partitions. All works performed in supporting walls must be approved by authorities, so as not to weaken the load-bearing capacity.
  • Admissible noise level.
  • The size of the product.
  • Safety.
  • The appearance and shape of the hole to be made. Often the cuts are square, but separate segments are used for individual parts of the construction to achieve the desired appearance, for example, for arches.

There is no impact noise when diamond cutting. A strong frequency of sounds is observed when working with gasoline cutters or drill bits when entering a wall cavity. The size of the tool must be taken into account when selecting the tool. The large size of the waterjet machine does not allow its use inside apartments. The safety of the worker who makes the hole must also be considered when performing the work. For example, oxygen-drilling is highly dangerous, because the waste particles of slag, when heated, reach high temperatures and fly away up to 2 meters. the most profitable and safe to use diamond wheels and crowns, which are used even in hard-to-reach places, but you should pay attention to the construction material, as well as the required depth of holes.

There are a lot of methods of penetrating into solid materials today, but the most highly effective is diamond cutting. Thanks to this method it is possible to quickly make openings in different materials (concrete, brick, stone, etc.д.the apertures in various materials (concrete, brick, stone, etc.) quickly and with practically no noise and minimum dusting. So if you need to quickly and accurately cut any kind of aperture or window in the wall, then this method is the best for you.

It should be remembered that you must have permission for the redevelopment of the room, because all the technical standards of the supporting structures must be respected. It is best to trust this work to a competent company, which independently prepare all the necessary documentation, and then the specialists will be able to quickly cut through in a residential and non-residential premises, the passage or window of the desired configuration.

What to pay attention to

Costs of creating the passage depend on the performer of the work. If you perform such work yourself, you can save a lot of money, but you will be responsible for the wrong actions yourself. Your choice you need to think through, so you do not regret it later.

Before starting the work, gather complete information. Familiarize yourself with how to make an opening in the wall. Be sure to consider several factors:

It is necessary to know how the slabs are located and what type they belong to. This information is needed to calculate the strengthening of the passage, if this had to dismantle the load-bearing wall. Made an opening must have reliable lintels, so that the collapse of the building did not happen. Suitable material for this is a steel channel.

Cutting methods

Today there are many methods of making openings in the walls, but we will consider the most common ones:

Diamond cutting

This method is now considered the most popular, because it requires a simple angle grinder and circular saw, in which the working body is a removable diamond cutting discs. Nowadays, special wall cutters are available for this purpose, which allow making apertures in concrete walls in a single cut.

This method is characterized by the following advantages:

  • Minimum risk of wall collapse because there is no great vibration;
  • Allows you to cut through the wall more accurately;
  • Low noise level;
  • Low dust generation.

Despite the many advantages, this method has some disadvantages:

  • High energy costs;
  • The unit needs to be cooled with water while working;
  • High cost of working equipment and consumables (diamond-coated wheels).

Laser

Laser systems were previously used only in stationary applications due to their large size. With the use of new technologies and components, the size of this equipment has been greatly reduced. This allowed the use of this method at many sites, but the high price of the equipment does not allow a wide application of this method.

Here, the concrete is cut with a laser cutter with high pressure.

Before the work is carried out, the thickness of the wall is first measured, the strength of the concrete is analyzed, and any buried utilities are taken into account. It is allowed to wet the walls in the process of cutting.

The main disadvantage of this technology is the high cost of equipment.

Hydroabrasion

Compared to the above two methods, waterjet cutting is less common. In this case, the hole is cut with a jet of water (diameter of about 0.4 mm), which is mixed with sand in a special container. This mixture is then injected into a nozzle at high pressure, which cuts through the material.

If the pressure is low, only concrete can be cut through, but if the pressure is high, it can easily cut through reinforced concrete.

This method is characterized by such advantages:

  • Allows you to make precise and very accurate openings.
  • We manage to meet all environmental standards, because no harmful gases to humans are emitted into the atmosphere.
  • No thermal and mechanical effects on the concrete.
  • In the production of works there is no strong noise and high vibration.
  • Allows you to cut through the wall at the required angles.
  • Allows to make apertures of different forms.

Oxygen

Oxygen cutting or oxy-cutting is performed with a special lance, through which oxygen is fed, heated by an external torch to 1360 1400C. After it is lit, the outside burner is removed. After heating to 2000°C the tip of the lance is put against the wall and gradually turned for more effective cutting.

In order to increase the thermal impact, an iron bar is inserted into the lance. When the lance is withdrawn, the concrete cools quickly, so it must be in constant contact with the material.

The disadvantage of this method is a high fire risk, as well as a high risk of burns of workers from flying slag.

Peorator and angle grinder

If the concrete is not very thick, then it is possible to cut an opening in the wall with an industrial torch and angle grinder. But it should be taken into account that this is quite a labor-intensive process.

First of all, holes of 10-12 mm in diameter are drilled into the wall with an industrial drill (every 3-4 cm), and then the wall is cut with a wheel with a diamond coating.

Device options

If there is a need to create an opening in a concrete wall, then it can be done in several ways, each of them has its pros and cons.

Diamond cutting

This is the most popular and common way to create an opening in a concrete wall. Diamond cutting has these advantages:

  • During the work, there is minimal danger to the wall;
  • Since in this case the vibration is insignificant, and the risk of cracking will be small;
  • It is possible to perform the opening exactly along the marked lines;
  • During operation the noise level is kept to a minimum;
  • Some dust and dirt is produced.

Despite the large number of advantages, this method has a number of disadvantages:

Cut with water

The waterjet method of cutting is less popular, in which case the work is carried out with a powerful jet of water and sand.

First, water is fed into a tank, where it is mixed with sand, then under high pressure through a nozzle with a diameter of about 0.4 mm, the mixture is fed to the place where the cutting.

To extinguish the residual force of the jet, use a special water trap.

By adjusting the pressure of the water jet, you can remove part of the concrete or make a through hole.

The main advantages of waterjet cutting are as follows:

  • the cut is neat and precise;
  • During such cutting, the material is not heated, so no harmful gases and vapors are formed, there is no strong noise and vibration;
  • It is possible to make an opening at any angle;
  • Allows for creation of any complex shape opening.

The disadvantages of abrasive waterjet cutting include:

In this case, the work is carried out with equipment having a thick-walled lance in the form of a pipe through which oxygen is fed.

The lance is heated to a temperature of 1400 degrees, and at the end of it the temperature reaches 2000 degrees. This method of creating openings in the concrete wall is popularly referred to as laser cutting.

The above work is recommended to carry out not reciprocating, but rotating movements, this creates a drilling effect, but it is necessary to ensure that the tube is not extinguished.

The disadvantage of this method is that during the work molten particles of slag fly around, so the worker must wear a special protective suit.

Punching with a torus and an angle grinder

If the concrete wall is not thick, you can make an opening in it with a peorator and a powerful angle grinder.

It is very difficult and time consuming to make an opening in a precast wall using this method.

In this case, first of all in a concrete wall by using peoratora make holes with a diameter of 10-12 mm, every 3-4 cm, and then the concrete is cut with an angle grinder with a diamond wheel.

Types of doorways

Openings in a load-bearing brick wall differ primarily in size. The standard height. 2 meters, and the width. from 60 to 100 cm. But you can vary these parameters depending on individual needs. The main thing is not to disregard GOSTs for construction. For example, in a load-bearing wall can not be created an opening wider than 2 meters and higher than 2 meters 10 centimeters. And the cutting of the opening in the supporting concrete wall is necessarily accompanied by its strengthening with an iron structure.

All door openings are divided into three types:

The principle of action when piercing such holes in brick walls is about the same, there are only differences in the nuances.
