How to cut a plastic skirting board at home

Choosing the right tool

Completing the repair and finishing work in the room, each specialist asks the question “how to cut a plastic skirting board.” The answer depends on how important the quality of the resulting edge is.

It will be of the highest quality when using a hacksaw for metal. Its blade is thin and strong enough, so the cut will be thin and even. The edges will not crumble, and it will be convenient to cut the skirting board.

If the quality of the edge is not very important, but the speed of work is important, then many builders and finishers use an angle grinder.

perfect inside miter joint hack. baseboard molding install

The thickness of its disc is such that the cut line will be quite wide, but the edges will not always be able to please the owner with their quality. However, using this tool, you can perform a fairly large amount of work in a short time.

angle grinder will leave a smooth edge

You can even cut the plinth with metal scissors if you don’t have another tool at hand. Such manipulation cannot be called convenient, but if necessary, the master can easily cope with the task.

In any case, the cutting tool must meet certain requirements, including:

  • security;
  • efficiency;
  • accuracy.

You should use this or that device after you are convinced of its productivity and the possibility of high-quality work.

How and what to cut the plinth

When choosing how to cut a plastic skirting board, they prefer a familiar and fairly easy-to-use tool. This is a hacksaw familiar to all craftsmen.

However, this is not enough, since it is required not only to accurately make a straight cut, but also to accurately and correctly cut corners.

For the high-quality performance of this operation, you will need such a device as a carpenter’s miter box. It is with its help that you can cut an angle of 45 or 90ͦ. Of course, you can use an angle grinder, but in this case, the cutting line will be quite wide, which is not always convenient.

Alternative to standard views

After the PVC skirting board is cut, there should be no chips at the edges. A correctly chosen tool that will have to cut the skirting board does not cause cracks or significant irregularities at the edges of the edge.

The electric jigsaw is no less popular with builders, but it can only be used when working with panels. Skirting boards, which feature fairly thin walls, cannot be cut qualitatively with such a device.

A sharp stroke and rather large teeth will lead to cracking of the product, making its installation impossible.

The safest and most effective after a hacksaw for metal is recognized as an ordinary assembly (wallpaper) knife.

Cutting thin-walled skirting boards that are attached to the floor with such a tool is quite quick and easy.

PVC floor skirting boards equipped with a cable channel are easiest to cut using a conventional hand jigsaw. It will allow you to make a clear cut, keep the edges of the edge intact and prevent the plank from cracking.

It is necessary to cut the strip covering the cable channel after preparing the skirting board itself. When it is cut exactly to size, it is necessary to install the cover plate and only then cut it off.

The installation of the skirting board starts from the far inner corner. If the length of the wall is long, then you will have to use a connecting plug, and then cut the plinth strip, not reaching 1.5 cm to the edge of the wall or 0.5 cm to the next corner. Regardless of the number of corners and joints, cutting is carried out strictly in a straight line, which greatly facilitates the work. Working with ceiling plinths

Beginners often ask how to cut a ceiling plinth to form an inside or outside corner. Ceiling skirting boards cannot be cut accurately without using a miter box. This attachment allows you to cut at any desired angle.

Correct trimming can be done with strict adherence to geometric shapes. Using a miter box makes it possible to obtain a perfectly even and precise cut.

Scheme of work with miter box

The full set has slots designed to cut workpieces at an angle:

  • 45 ͦ;
  • 60 ͦ;
  • 67.5 ͦ;
  • 90 ͦ.

To perform the operation, during which it is necessary to install the plinth in the corner, you will need to cut the panel exactly 45 ͦ. In this case, the two pieces put together will give a full 90 ͦ when creating both the outer and inner corners. For more information on how to properly cut the skirting boards with the required angle, see this

Any skirting board (ceiling or floor) is cut after the correct slope has been determined.

The location of the cut on the inner or outer surface of the part depends on the configuration of the corner itself.

In cases where the walls in the room are uneven and there are practically no strict corners, you should not use a miter box. It is better to cut the skirting boards by hand using a regular painting (stationery) knife.

Floor skirting board: we cut it right

If the room has been renovated according to Euro standards, then the corners must surely correspond to 90 degrees. Then there is nothing easier than using a miter box. Having laid the skirting board inside the fixture, select a 45 ° notch angle and prepare the corners on two skirting boards.

Corner for joining a corner

However, perfectly flat corners are not so common, and there are usually some deviations in one direction or another. In this case, it is necessary to apply the markings on the floor with a pencil.

How to cut the skirting board according to the markings:

  • Draw two parallel horizontal mowing lines.
  • A dividing line is applied approximately in the middle, which is placed across the markings.
  • At the top, attaching a protractor to the transverse mowing line, determine an angle of 45 degrees and put a mark on both sides.
  • We carry out the same at the bottom.
  • Attaching a ruler to the marks, apply a cruciform markings.

As a result, the letter “Ж” should be obtained. If desired, get angles of cuts in 45, 90 or 135 o. you can always take advantage of this little trick by attaching the skirting board to the appropriate mowing line.

How to cut off a plastic skirting board: how to cut it off and how to do it correctly, cutting methods

The skirting board has become an integral part of the interior for a very long time and is actively used in the design of the room. Manufacturers make this piece of furniture from a variety of materials, which ultimately can affect the choice of tool and cutting method when it is necessary to obtain perfectly accurate corner joints. The article will touch upon the question of how and how to cut the plinth correctly and with what, in order to be able to dock the two parts as accurately as possible without the use of decorative overlays.

Plastic skirting board

Cutting the corner of a plastic skirting board

Only from the outside, it may seem that cutting corners is a simple matter and does not require much knowledge and experience. However, this is only an outside view. When you take it yourself, especially if for the first time, your hands begin to shake and the slightest incorrectly performed action will lead to rejection of the part.

Skirting board cutting process

An incorrectly executed cut will lead to the appearance of gaps, which means that such a connection is not suitable for joining in the corners: the decorative component is disturbed, and the practical one suffers no less.

Tools for the job

To make the cut as efficiently as possible, workers use a hacksaw for metal. However, not in all cases, such a tool is suitable. For example, to cut thin skirting boards, it is better to use an angle grinder or metal scissors. Although these tools also require specialist experience.

The main types of floor skirting boards

recently, it was impossible to find other types of skirting boards on the market, except for wooden ones. These products are still popular, although they are gradually passing the boundaries of more practical and durable products.

Varieties by type of material:

  • Wooden. This is the classic version. The reason why such a skirting board is still in demand today is the raw material used in the manufacture. Indeed, when building eco-housing, people opt for products made from natural materials. Wood products are made from various types of wood, and therefore differ in decorative qualities and in terms of service life.

Wooden skirting boards

  • Veneered. For the manufacture of the main part, various materials can be used, but only veneer from high-quality wood species is used as the top coating. On visual inspection, without knowing the distinctive features, veneered plinth practically does not differ from wooden.

Veneered skirting board

  • PVC skirting board. This type of product is becoming more popular every year due to its practicality and low price. Plastic skirting boards are made with different characteristics, which helps to select products exclusively for the needs of the homeowner. For example, for semicircular walls, manufacturers offer flexible options, moreover, they are practically not inferior in decorative properties to wooden skirting boards.

If there is no miter box, a ruler with a pencil will do.

The lack of a miter box, and the reluctance to make a stencil, leads to the following method, the main tools of which are a ruler and a pencil.

How to properly cut the skirting board for the inner corner:

  • Remove product width measurements.
  • Transfer the resulting value to the end of the plinth.
  • Draw a line with a pencil from the corner to the marked point.
  • Cut along the marked.
  • The second skirting board is applied to the first (formed), and is also trimmed. It is important that the cut is mirrored.

If we consider the options for skirting boards according to the degree of rigidity, then there are two varieties. these are soft and hard. It is the rigid ones that are more popular and therefore need an introduction to ways of cutting the corners of the skirting board. Next, we will consider several ways to show how to cut a plastic skirting board at an angle.

We use a stencil

This method is suitable if the room where the skirting boards are planned to be installed has non-standard dimensions.

Methods for cutting plastic skirting boards

Cutting skirting boards is seemingly simple, but responsible. If the corners are cut incorrectly, they will not fit correctly and all the work will go to waste, since the product will no longer have a beautiful appearance. there will be gaps between two sections of the baseboard and decorative inserts (corners, connecting elements, etc.).

Most often, an ordinary metal hacksaw, which has fine teeth, is used to cut the plinth. However, for thin skirting boards, it will not work, since the product will simply tear under the influence of this tool.

Plastic skirting board cutting angle grinder

Sometimes the plinth is cut with metal scissors. But the method also has its drawbacks, because the product can be crumpled under the pressure of the blades. Less common, but still used is an angle grinder. However, the cutting line after it can be inaccurate, as the tool often “tears” soft plastic. Especially often this method turns out to be unsuccessful for beginners in the world of repair who do not yet know how to fully control the work. So the angle grinder can be attributed to rather specific methods.

Metal scissors

On a note! You can use a sharpened knife or utility knife to cut thin skirting boards. But such work requires some skill, therefore it is recommended to first practice on the scraps of the old plastic skirting board.

The most important thing in the procedure for cutting skirting boards is the observance of the required geometry. The procedure is never performed “by eye”, the accuracy of measurements and accuracy are important here. Therefore, there are other methods for cutting skirting boards.

The absence of fittings implies the use of other methods of connecting skirting boards. This is an option with and without clipping templates.

Useful Tips

Experienced craftsmen recommend starting the installation of the skirting board from the inner corner. At the junction of the two walls, which form the inner corner, the cut on the skirting boards will be 45 degrees (in a room with correct and accurate geometry). It is recommended to cut with a miter box. this is the only way to achieve a perfectly even cut.

Cutting floor and ceiling plinths with a miter box

Advice! If necessary, you can slightly adjust the skirting boards to each other using a grinder or rasp, slightly “removing” their edges.

In general, in any case, the cut edges of plastic skirting boards should be sanded. this way it will be possible to get rid of sharp edges, and it will be easier to work. And the skirting boards with cable channels are cut only after the product has been disassembled. the decorative strip designed to hide the wires and attachment points of the skirting board is cut separately.

The plinth of the desired size is cut

It is recommended that immediately before installing the plinth, cut the segments to the required length and arrange the corners so as not to be distracted by this procedure during the assembly of the plinth. You should not neglect the use of additional elements. plugs, corners and other products for the baseboard. With their help, it will be possible to give the finished work a complete and harmonious look.

Advice! If the corners where the skirting board is laid and joined are uneven, then even decorative plugs and other elements can be trimmed if necessary.

It is very easy to cut skirting boards at any angle with this device.

The main types of floor skirting boards

The wooden skirting board is a classic. It is a natural product, as it is made from solid wood. This type is distinguished by its high strength and durability. the skirting boards, installed back in the times of the USSR, still serve faithfully in some apartments and houses. Now they are made mainly from pine wood, but there are also products from walnut, oak, ash and other species. However, due to this, the cost of products increases. not everyone can afford such skirting boards.

Wooden floor plinth

Because of this, veneered skirting boards have appeared on the market. their are an order of magnitude lower. However, outwardly, they practically do not differ from products made of expensive wood. The fact is that their upper part, which plays a decorative role, is just made of a thin layer of expensive wood. Without certain knowledge and experience, it is almost impossible to distinguish veneered plinth from ordinary wooden skirting.

On a note! For cutting skirting boards. wood and veneer. use a regular wood saw.

It is convenient to cut wooden skirting boards with a hacksaw for metal

Plastic skirting boards, that is, made of PVC, are especially popular now. It has partially displaced conventional wooden products from the market, as it has a number of advantages:

  • looks beautiful and neat. it is able to imitate natural wood products;
  • easy to install, flexible and very easy to cut;
  • can serve as a cable channel for laying wires;
  • not afraid of exposure to water, and also does not rot, mold does not start on it;
  • is inexpensive compared to wood or veneered products.

Plastic skirting board is made of polyvinyl chloride, which is passed through special forms under high pressure. After the mass has solidified, a neat plastic product is obtained.

On a note! Some manufacturers decorate the edges of plastic skirting boards with rubber. This measure helps the product not to slip on walls and floors during installation and to adhere tightly to surfaces.

Plastic skirting board

Plastic skirting boards are of several types. for example, used for carpet (they have a special shape in the form of the letter G, fix the material) or for linoleum. There are also universal products that can be installed on any kind of flooring. They can be classified and depending on the hardness.

How to cut off a plastic skirting board: how to cut it off and how to do it correctly, cutting methods

A skirting board is an essential element for decorating a room and giving it a complete and neat look. It can be made of various materials, but the plastic skirting board is especially popular now. It is easy to install, but even in this process there are some subtleties that are important to know about. How to cut a plastic skirting board correctly so that you can neatly dock it in the corners?

How to cut a plastic skirting board

How to cut a plastic skirting board

If the angle in the room where it is planned to finish the joints of the walls and the floor with a plinth is 90 degrees, which happens extremely rarely, then the cuts of the plinths should have an angle of 45 degrees each. Such a cut is the easiest to make, especially with the use of a miter box. It is enough to insert the plinth into the miter box, then select a groove at 45 degrees and make a cut.

However, such angles of 90 degrees in rooms are extremely rare, usually they differ by several values in one direction or another. And in some rooms, the corners may even be larger. Then the cutting is done differently: a marking is drawn on the floor with a pencil, where the border of the location of the plinth is drawn on one and the other side of the corner. you get a small rhombus. The diagonal of this rhombus will be the very cutting line of the product. Next, a plinth is applied to the marking, on which the marking is performed in accordance with the diagonal of the rhombus. If you draw a straight line from this mark to the corner of the plinth, then you get the very necessary cutting line.

Advice! When trimming the skirting board, it is recommended to saw off a little less than necessary. In case of an error, this will correct the situation by lightly processing the edges of the product by hand and adjust the skirting board to the desired size.

The outer corners of the skirting boards are formed a little differently, or rather, in a room with ideal geometry, you can also cut products at an angle of 45 degrees (but in a different direction) and, after joining, close the edges with a plug. Non-standard corners are cut like this: one of the skirting boards is applied to one of the walls, its borders are marked with a pencil. The same procedure is performed with another product. again a rhombus flaunts on the floor, the diagonal of which will become a guide for cutting products.

How to properly trim the corners of the skirting board

Since it is hard plastic skirting boards that are increasingly used during repairs, it is about them that will be discussed. Their installation is inevitably associated with the need to cut and form beautiful joints in the corners. The quality of all work and the appearance of the room where the repair is being made will depend on how the plinth will be joined, in general.

Stencil cutting

The method is recommended for cutting products intended for installation in non-standard-shaped rooms with angles that differ from the standard mark of 90 degrees. Stencils for the desired angle can be made from paper or thin cardboard. First, strips are cut from the rough material, which have exactly the same width as the skirting board. Then they are applied to the corner and fixed, after which they are cut to the shape of the corner. Then, according to the stencils received, the plinth itself is cut at the required angle.

Comparison of fastening methods

Fastening plastic skirting boards can be done in several ways:

  • on special mounts;
  • on glue;
  • just screwing on with self-tapping screws.

Using self-tapping screws

This method is reliable and cheap. Before attaching the skirting board, there is no need to prepare the contact surfaces. Disadvantages of this method: the plinth looks a little rough, and when installing, more time is spent.

Fastening with glue

The main advantage is the visually attractive appearance of the skirting board. Installation in this case is very simple: grease the material of the required length with glue and press it against the wall. Naturally, before installing corners, couplings and plugs. Disadvantages: in fact, it is impossible to dismantle without loss of appearance, and in most cases the deformation is critical. High demands on surface quality.

By the way: as an illustrative example, you can take the popular adhesive composition. “liquid nails”.

Design features

In the still unforgotten Soviet building past, the skirting board was usually made of wood, and its entire installation was a banal nailing. Today, fiberboard, SDF and, of course, the plastic we are discussing, are used for the manufacture of plinth profiles. But this does not mean that only professionals know the answer to the question of how to properly install a plastic skirting board. People without special construction skills can easily cope with this.

There are three types of plastic skirting boards on the market today:

  • for carpet and linoleum;
  • universal;
  • flexible.

The first one is L-shaped and presses the finishing coating to the base with its lower part. The groove in the upper part is used for fixing the edge of the carpet, which runs over the wall. Fastening is done with dowels. Visually, the perimeter framing does not differ from the main material, which makes this option elegant and modern.

Universal skirting boards have a hollow design and are in turn subdivided into products with an internal and external cable channel. The advantage of both those and others. in the presence of special grooves in which you can lay a variety of power and signal cables. Models with internal cavities are attached to the wall using special brackets, which professional installers call cleats.

Skirting boards of the second type have a channel on the outside, which, after installing the conductors, is closed with a special plug in the form of a long strip. Thanks to it, the fastening of models with an external cable channel can be performed both with the help of clamps and with ordinary dowels. later the attachment points will be hidden by the same flexible plug.

The advantage of universal plastic skirting boards lies in the fact that they can be removed and reused. you probably know about this from the commercials of manufacturers of building materials. But they are silent about the fact that even the most careful dismantling leads to damage to the plastic protrusion on the back of the finishing panel. This is due to the fact that the clamps have inwardly curved steel spikes that securely hold the product during operation. When exposed to force, cracks and plastic delamination appear in the fastening zone, due to which it will not be possible to reliably fix the element to the old place. There is only one way out of this situation. to move the clamp a couple of centimeters to the side so that it engages with the undamaged part of the plinth. After that, the connection will again be reliable and durable.

Flexible skirting board is designed for framing various curved surfaces. fireplace areas, wall curves, etc. Its installation is carried out on a special glue. The disadvantage of such a frame is that it can be used only once. As a rule, when dismantled, the product is damaged and cannot be reused.

Special fastenings. staples

The advantages of this method are that no obvious traces of fasteners are visible, the skirting board can be easily dismantled and reinstalled. Although the latter circumstance, advertised by the manufacturer, in practice may not give an ideal implementation. Very often, the skirting board removed from the fixture cannot be ideally re-installed. Especially when it comes to metal mounts. The disadvantages include the fact that during installation, the fasteners require the ideal condition of the wall and floor surfaces.

Installation of plastic skirting boards: a comparative overview of 3 fastening options

As you know, during the repair and arrangement of any room, insignificant details do not exist. over, sometimes seemingly secondary elements of the interior actually play a key role in creating the perfect picture. Here’s what you think: what is more important than the floor or skirting board, which is installed last? If you think about it sensibly, then it is impossible to give preference. everything should be harmonious. As part of this article, let’s take a look at what it is like to install plastic skirting boards. Why exactly them? Yes, because they are currently clear sales leaders.

What tools and consumables will be needed?

Naturally, you need to have a well-equipped set of tools in the house. it will come in handy in many situations. But if we take specifically the installation of this floor element, then at least you must imagine in advance what will be required during its installation:

  • Rotary hammer or hammer drill (drilling concrete walls).
  • Screwdriver or conventional drill (drilling wood materials or drywall).
  • Trimming machine (angle grinder) or hacksaw (will significantly reduce the time required for trimming parts).
  • A set of attachments for a screwdriver or screwdriver.
  • Roulette.

Even before buying, you need to calculate not only the number of skirting boards, but also take care of how to fix it correctly. Depending on the mounting option, you may need:

  • clips for fastening;
  • self-tapping screws;
  • glue or liquid nails;
  • dowels.

Note! As a rule, manufacturers supply skirting boards of standard length. 2.5 m for sale. If the room has walls with large dimensions, then the skirting board will have to be “lengthened”, and for this you will need connectors. It is necessary to try to make calculations in such a way that the joints are hidden behind a sofa, wardrobe, covered with a door, etc.

  • Connecting profile.
  • End cap (left).
  • End cap (right).
  • Outside corner.
  • Inner corner.

Installation instructions

As already briefly noted above, the installation method depends on the design of the skirting board. Consider the simplest and fastest mounting method using conventional dowels:

  • Installation begins from the corner, if necessary, cutting off the bar of the required length.
  • Having previously removed the plug, the plinth is applied to the wall, leveled and through holes are made, going deep into the wall at a distance of up to 25 mm. The fixing spacing should be between 10 cm for short lengths and up to 50 cm if using a whole panel of standard 2.5 m length.
  • Dowels are driven into the holes, after which the plastic frame is fixed with self-tapping screws.

The installation of the skirting board on the clips begins with the fact that the strip is applied to the wall and it is determined at what height the fasteners will be located. As in the previous case, work is carried out from the corner, placing the first clamp at a distance of about 100 mm. To fix it, a hole is drilled into which a plastic dowel is inserted. After that, a clip is applied and fastened with a self-tapping screw. The distance between adjacent attachment points is selected depending on the length of the plastic panel. in this case, you can follow the same recommendations that we gave for through installation. To fix the plinth to the clamps, a small amount of force is enough to overcome the stiffness of the steel bracket, into which the protrusion on the back of the finishing panel enters.

In principle, we have considered all the nuances of installing a plinth profile made of plastic within the framework of this article. But, as you know, it’s better to see it once, so we bring to your attention an introductory video:

Miter box

Must for cutting PVC skirting boards

Correct pruning is about keeping strict geometric shapes. This condition is imperative, since for a beautiful connecting seam between the panels, an even, carefully calibrated cut is required. If you do this procedure “by eye”, then it will be difficult to connect two elements, since one side will not exactly match the other.

This factor is especially relevant when forming external or internal corners. In order to carry out a perfectly even cut of the panel, it is necessary to use a miter box. This tool allows you to fine-tune an angle of 45 degrees. exactly half of the ideal angle.

It has the form of a “U” shaped panel, on which there are cut-out grooves. their location corresponds to the required cut angle. When working with a miter box, you may also need a simple pencil.

How to cut a plastic skirting board: technology methods

A plinth is an indispensable part of the interior of a room, without which no living room can do. Most coatings cannot lie close to the wall, and therefore, the seam between the wall and the adjacent surface will inevitably have a rather unsightly appearance. Installation of wooden, plastic, metal skirting boards is a fairly simple process that is quite realistic to carry out with your own hands, without resorting to the services of specialists.

Plastic skirting board: photo

Even in the recent past, natural wood served as the main material for the manufacture of skirting boards, however, due to significant shortcomings, among which the most noticeable were the high price and excessive rigidity, the most rational was the use of plastic floor panels. PVC skirting boards are much cheaper than their wooden counterparts and have high flexibility, which allows the installation process to be carried out more efficiently.

As in any other case, the installation of a plastic skirting board has a number of specific features, among which, a special place is occupied by the process of cutting panels, which is necessary to form corners or linear joints. PVC panels have a flexible hollow structure. the traditional cutting method is not suitable for them, as a regular wood saw will leave an uneven cut edge and form chips.

Correctly cut corners of the ceiling plinths are the appearance of the future structure. Uneven cuts, chips and poorly fitting seams will negatively affect the visual impression of the panels in general, and the interior of the room in particular. In this article, you will be provided with instructions on how to properly cut plastic panels.

Cutting tool

The first and quite natural question that arises in a person who is going to independently carry out the installation process is how to cut plastic skirting boards? The choice of tool will depend on how smooth the cutting edge is. PVC panels have a hollow structure, in this regard, it is undesirable to use blades with large teeth or a wide wave, as this can lead to irregularities and chips.

The best option is considered to be the use of a hacksaw for metal. its teeth are quite small, and the divorce has an acceptable width. However, its use is limited to panels, the structure of which is quite rigid. it is not suitable for thin-walled skirting boards, since the teeth can tear the surface of the skirting board and make the cut not even enough.

Cutting the corners of the skirting board can be done with a hand jigsaw

A less radical sawing tool is a hand jigsaw. This is the most gentle way to cut the corners of the skirting board, leaving a perfectly straight cut and suitable for all types of plastic products. However, the jigsaw has one significant drawback: due to the small dimensions of the blade, the cutting process will be quite slow and the use of a miter box will not be entirely appropriate.

Note! When using a hand jigsaw, you should use a blade on which teeth are present. the use of circular saws with an abrasive is undesirable, as this will significantly complicate the sawing process.

If the skirting board is thin-walled, then trimming is possible with a clerical knife. In this case, its construction modification with a reinforced blade is meant. This option has certain disadvantages: in order to make a clear and even cut, you need to have certain skills. It will be difficult to carry out the cutting process without proper experience.

Required tools

Cutting skirting boards with a miter box

The angle of connection of two planes in the room corresponds to 90 degrees, respectively, each panel must have a 45 degree cut angle in order to form the required value when joining. To carry out the sawing process, you will need a cutting tool, a miter box and a simple pencil.

Cutting ceiling plinths with a hacksaw

  • The tray in the middle of the miter box is intended for placing the plinth in it. The panel is applied to the device with a rough surface, since if you place it the other way around, then the front part of the product may be damaged when cut;
  • Diagonal slots on the miter box are positioned so that the part cut along them has a certain degree. they play the role of guides for the cutting tool. When choosing the required angle, make sure that the edge of the panel extends over the edge of the guide slot for a short distance in order to obtain an ideal cut over the entire width of the skirting board;
  • If the width of the skirting board turns out to be narrower than the miter box tray, it is necessary to evenly press the panel against one of the sides of the groove and cut in this form. Thus, the cut angle will have an exact value. It is unacceptable to place the panel in the tray at different angles. this will lead to the fact that the figures obtained as a result of sawing will not be identical to each other;

Cutting skirting boards at an angle with a miter box

  • The blade of the cutting tool is inserted into the guide slots and the panel is cut evenly. Polyvinyl chloride has an elastic structure. during the cutting process, you must not press on the tool, otherwise the cut may turn out to be uneven. Also, do not cut too quickly, as this will cause heating of the edges and deformation of the edge;
  • After one side of the corner is sawn off, we proceed to the formation of its second part. The sawing process is carried out as in the previous case, with the difference that the second corner is the mirror opposite of the original workpiece. In order to obtain a mirror angle, it is necessary to lay the panel in the miter box on the other side and cut it off along the appropriate guide;
  • To make straight cuts on the miter box, there are also perpendicular cuts, through which the panel is cut strictly vertically. When making a cut, the only thing that you should constantly monitor is the uniform arrangement of the panel in the tray so that the cut is as even as possible;

Horizontal cut of a plastic panel

This method is suitable only if, during the laying and covering of the walls, the corners were carefully calibrated and correspond to the value of 90 degrees, but sometimes it happens that they may have other parameters, since building codes are not always observed when building a house. The ideal angle formed by means of a miter box will be inappropriate. in this case, a stencil cutting method is used.

Stencil cutting

If the corners of the walls do not correspond to the required parameters, the stencil method of cutting is used. To do this, you need strips of thick paper or thin cardboard, which will serve as a material for making a stencil. Based on the parts received, the cut is marked on the plinth. Considering that each angle can have a different degree, an individual stencil must be made for each.

First of all, two strips approximately corresponding to the width of the plinth are cut out of cardboard or thick paper, which are applied to the intersection of the walls. The strips are fixed in the required position, after which the unnecessary part is trimmed with a clerical knife in one motion. The cut is carried out perpendicular to the intersection of the walls, so that at the end you have two equal parts of one corner.

The use of connecting parts will not be to everyone’s taste, since their presence in the interior is not always appropriate. the formation of connecting seams is more laborious, but at the same time, a more aesthetic approach. Correct cutting is the key to a good appearance of the corner in general and of the baseboard in particular (read also about the properties of the flexible baseboard).
