How to cut a ceiling plinth: work with or without a tool

Any repair requires attention to the smallest details. The quality of the finish depends on the appearance and general perception of the room. To a greater extent, this applies to the ceilings, which in most cases are not perfect, so to hide all the imperfections (their and the walls), many owners use ceiling skirting boards, which give the rooms completeness. If the installation of baguettes in straight areas is not particularly difficult, the joints of the elements in the corners require the utmost accuracy. Therefore, many owners who are planning, or have already begun repairs, are interested in how to cut the ceiling plinth, what tools can be used for this stage of the work.

The answer to the question of how to cut a ceiling plinth, depends on what material it is made of. Cutting is different, since baguettes have different density. Therefore, the first thing to consider is the most popular materials, and at the same time the peculiarities of their cutting.

Styrofoam

Such products have the lowest price, because the material is very unstable to mechanical influences. Foam is easy to scratch, damage if accidentally hit. Pros. minimum weight, which simplifies gluing, easy processing, the ability to paint in any color.

This foamed material consists of small granules, which are quite easily separated from each other. However, they are the main disadvantage of such baguettes. They require a very sharp tool. Otherwise, the skirting board can crumble, so it will be unsuitable for installation. This is true for both corner cuts and straight cuts.

Styrofoam

This contender is more expensive, but it does not differ from the first candidate very much, because it is a “relative” of Styrofoam: it is produced from expanded polystyrene. This material also consists of small granule bubbles, but they adhere to each other more tightly. But Styrofoam will not tolerate a blade that is not too sharp, it will also crumble. Therefore, the master needs to prepare no less sharp tools.

The main advantage of foam and polystyrene foam is their softness, which allows you to avoid gaps by pressing the workpieces tightly to each other and to the corners.

Extruded polystyrene foam

EPPS is made from the same raw materials as conventional polystyrene foam, but in this case use a different, more advanced technology. Ordinary EPS is produced by injecting steam through microgranules.

To obtain the extruded polystyrene foam, the particles are mixed at high temperature and pressure, and then foaming agent is added to the raw material. Granule size in this material is much smaller (maximum 0,2 mm), as a result it is less crumbly and more durable. Very sharp tools are not needed to cut it, but bluntness of the cutting edge is also not welcome.

Polyvinyl chloride

Plastic baseboards (PVC). another type of ceiling products. They are usually purchased for finishing bathrooms. If we consider the topic “How to cut a ceiling plinth”, in this case they are exceptions, because for their docking use special, ready-made corners.

In general, these baseboards can be cut with a box cutter, a metal hacksaw or a sharp kitchen tool. Since PVC products do not reshape due to their lack of elasticity, it is not recommended that they are pressed down hard when being cut.

Polyurethane

This is another representative of polymer products. It is distinguished by high density and absence of disadvantages of previous competitors. It is easy to cut, so the tool must be sharp, but there are no maximum requirements for its sharpening. Polyurethane skirting boards do not crumble, do not warp, and can withstand almost any pressure with honour.

Wood

This traditional material is cut with the usual carpentry tools: for example, a jigsaw, hand or electric. Areas of the cut are processed by sandpaper or file. As these products are more expensive than other skirting boards, the work requires accuracy. A serious mistake can be made easily, but there is no way to fix it. The consequence of negligence will be the purchase of a new baguette.

The ideal tool for cutting wooden workpieces would be an electric trimmer saw. The biggest disadvantage of it. the high price, especially quality models. On the other hand, customers have the opportunity to find an inexpensive tool that will do a decent job.

Tools to be used

First about how to cut a ceiling plinth made of polymers or wood, how to do it correctly and quickly. In this case, you will need 2 tools for the job. a wire cutter and a cutting tool.

What to cut baseboards with?

As for the latter, the choice depends on the baseboard material:

  • Products made of Styrofoam (all polystyrene) suggest using a sharp office knife;
  • Polyurethane skirting boards are usually cut with a metal hacksaw;
  • Wood requires the “active” participation of a jigsaw or saw.

The second potential tool for polyurethane is the same office knife. The reason is the rather low density of the material. Another alternative. a sharp, pointed kitchen knife. A special requirement for it is that the blade is not too thick.

A metal saw is a good alternative to the wood jigsaw. Optimally, the blade that has the smallest teeth. Otherwise, the tool will get stuck in the material, and in such conditions it is extremely difficult to make a flawless cut.

The chisel and its self-made

The chisel is the second indispensable tool for working with baseboards.

What it is?

Not everyone may know what it is. This is a device that allows you to cut any workpiece at different angles (45-90°). It is a groove consisting of a bottom and two sides in which slots are made for tools. On its bottom lay the material, and in the slots are inserted the hacksaw (knife, etc.). д.). After sawing baguettes, it is used to produce almost perfect blanks.

Chisel. a necessity for trimming any baseboards, because the joints of the elements require a 45° angle. Otherwise, the connection of the parts will not work: or there will be a gap between the adjacent skirting boards, or they simply will need to be trimmed again, as to dock the adjacent products will be impossible.

Yes, the remaining hole can be masked with a compound. However, this option is still not the best. The filler may soon become slightly discolored, and this discrepancy will become very noticeable. However, even here there is an exception.

How to Make a Jigsaw?

For self-made, you will need to find a board with a length of about a meter or more, or a sheet of plywood (chipboard). It is still necessary to prepare:

  • From the selected material, cut 3 parts with a width of 200 to 250 mm, their length. 300 mm (400, 500 mm). Use self-tapping screws to connect them in a “U” shape.
  • Using a protractor, on the tops of the sides make marks corresponding to the angle of 45 ° (if necessary, and 90 °).
  • Then take a hacksaw, which sawed the holes so that the grooves reached the bottom of the tool.

Finished holes are reamed with a rasp, so that a jigsaw or hacksaw could freely enter them.

Chisel for baseboards: basic rules for use

Everyone will be able to understand how to cut the corners of the ceiling plinth. In order for the process to go smoothly, you should familiarize yourself in advance with the main ways to create beautiful and even blanks.

The main rule of work is to observe the slope of the corners. If the baseboard is fixed to the right, the corner will be cut from the left side, and vice versa.

What is a plough, how to use this tool

Starting repairs in the apartment, many people wonder how to cut the corners of the skirting board on the ceiling. It is important to familiarize yourself with the rules for using the equipment. A chisel is a fixture consisting of walls with side cuts and a bottom. The detail demanding processing, is laid out in the middle and corrected by means of a file.

The main question. with what to cut a plastic skirting board. As a result should turn out ideally equal corner of 45 degrees. Sawing the fillet is fast and easy if you use a ready-made saw, or make it from existing materials. The tool for reliability is put on the floor and held by the left hand. The hacksaw should be positioned in one of the oblique lines, depending on what corner should turn out. right or left.

For beginners it is best to fasten the jigsaw to the table, so that it does not slip off during the work

  • pencil draw a thin, barely visible line for the trimmer;
  • the fillet is laid sideways in the jig and determine the angle of the cut;
  • hacksaw should pass exactly along the marked line;
  • The second bar rotate and make the cut on the other side, so that the alignment of the two parts formed a corner.

Before gluing the skirting boards to the ceiling, they must be sanded down.

Tools that will be needed to trim the baseboard

When cutting the eaves, you should take into account what material the ceiling moulding is made of. If the plinth is plastic, then you can not do without a hacksaw for metal. Wooden baseboard is cut with a fine wood saw. Well, if you need to glue a foam or polyurethane baguette for the ceiling, then a simple sharp knife will suffice, a gypsum board or a stationery knife is ideal for this case.

In addition to cutting tools, you may also need such a tool:

Please note! Use only serviceable tools. The cutting tool must be sharp, with frequent and fine teeth. This will not only allow you to achieve a perfectly even and smooth cut, but also protect you from possible damage to the product.

How to make a cross cutter yourself

Undoubtedly, this joinery device, the most important tool if there is a question of how to cut the corner of the baseboard correctly. And, of course, when cutting ceiling plinths from solid material, you can not do without it.

But what to do when you need it, but do not have it?? There is a way out. Make it your own hands.

Tip! If you have a large amount of work with the installation of ceiling plinths, do not be lazy and make this simple and indispensable tool yourself. Unfortunately, in construction stores mostly plastic tools are sold, but that’s not even the point, it’s just that their quality is not good enough. From my experience, I know that when cutting even baguettes from foam plastic, more than one object such a tool does not hold. You can, of course, buy a professional device, but the price is not small.

Attachment, which is not difficult to construct yourself

The first thing to do is to determine the dimensions of the future tool. The length can be selected on the basis of available building materials, and height and width, based on the size of products that will be cut on the tool.

If the baseboard has a size of 10 cm, then, accordingly, the width and height should be at least 10 cm. We, on the other hand, can recommend the following dimensions:

  • Length. not less than 500 mm. Such size allows the product to be properly aligned and fixed.
  • the width and height would be better to take 200 by 200 mm. With such size it would be possible to cut the biggest skirting boards.

Once we have decided on the dimensions, let’s take the example of 500x200x200 mm, it is necessary to prepare the main elements of the future jigsaw:

  • The base. a wide board, which serves as a lining. On the base depends on the length and width of the chisel, so you should make it the planned length and width, in our example is 500×200 mm. The recommended thickness is 25 mm. The base has to be strictly rectangular. The quality of the cut corner depends on it.
  • guide boards. their task is to guide the hacksaw blade, according to the chosen angle. It is necessary to prepare them the same length as the basis, the thickness, here is not so important, quite enough and 15 mm, but here width calculate taking into account the thickness of the basis, in our case 25200 = 225 mm. Thus, we will get the working area of the saw 500x200x200 mm. The guide boards must also be rectangular.

So, we have prepared the material, let’s proceed to the creation of our tool, instructions:

  • Screw the boards to the ends of the base using screws.
  • with the help of a protractor mark corners, to work with ceiling baguettes enough 45 and 90 degrees.
  • With the help of an angle, we draw lines from the marked points on the walls of the guide boards;
  • Saw along the marked lines.

This is how you can make a quality carpentry tool with your own hands.

The result of our actions. no complications

How to make a smooth corner: ways

The most difficult thing to cut a corner so as to get a perfectly flat: the surface of the materials used is not easy to cut, in addition, you need to keep a good docking, preferably without huge gaps. How to make a corner on the ceiling plinth? You can use several ways: with a jigsaw, without a jigsaw, using decorative corners, as well as an alternative way.

How to cut a ceiling plinth without a joiner? To work you will need a well-sharpened pencil, a small piece of baseboard, a box cutter (for polystyrene or polyurethane) or a metal saw (for other materials), a ruler.

You need to attach the baseboard to the corner and run the trimmer line with a pencil along the outer edge, then attach it to the other side of the corner and also mark. As a result, the ceiling will be a cross, the center of which will mark the point where the ceiling plinth strips must converge.

ceiling, moldings, corners

Place the piece of skirting board where you will glue it. With the end in the wall, transfer to it the desired mark. You can cut the corners of ceiling boards this way without the joiner.

Cutting corners using a pitchfork

If the walls and corners of the room are straight, you can use the whiteboard. To properly cut the corner, the inside of the jigsaw should lay the part in which a person will make a cut, then insert the saw in the guides.

That way the piece will be held in place and can be cut at the right angle. For a quality cut of the skirting board, it must simultaneously adhere to both surfaces, so it should be pressed against the wall of the skirting board. Press the skirting board to the side that is closest to you.

With the help of a jig saw you will need to cut a corner of 45 degrees. First determine how to position the skirting board in the joiner. To avoid confusion and cut correctly, place the right slat on the right and the left slat on the left.

Follow these instructions:

  • Press the part you want on the ceiling up against the bottom of the jigsaw. The second side will be elevated and will be closer to you. It can be leaned against the wall of the tool so it won’t wobble when you saw.
  • Determine the direction of the kerf as shown in this illustration, and then cut the corner.

Place it on the ceiling and check the geometry. If it is not even enough, it can be slightly corrected with a knife, and in the case of minor defects and wide gaps, you can use putty.

Tips

Although gluing ceiling baseboards is not that difficult, there are tips you should heed:

  • The walls should be clean, dust-free. Any dirt will reduce the adhesive properties of the base.
  • The underside of the slats is better to make rough, as a smooth surface has a low quality of adhesion to the surface.
  • It is important to choose a quality glue with good adhesion, especially for heavy baguettes. Also, do not use solvent adhesive for polystyrene skirting boards, such a composition can spoil the material.
  • After gluing ceiling plinths, do not allow draughts in the room within a day, the glue must be well seized.

Selection of tools for cutting ceiling plinths

To cut ceiling plinths correctly and accurately, you need to use the right tools for cutting them. It is chosen depending on the material from which the fillets are made:

Styrofoam. Characterized by low strength and costs relatively inexpensive, and therefore foam models are becoming increasingly popular. Their strength does not particularly affect the performance characteristics, because usually the ceiling skirting is not subjected to mechanical stress. For cutting a regular office knife is suitable.

You can buy it in a construction store or make your own hands according to these instructions:

Three boards 5015 cm nailed a long rib in the shape of a tripartite, rectangular box. Note the angle of 90 degrees between the side planks and the transverse plank must be respected.

To work with this homemade device was convenient and safe, the boards before joining should be well sanded.

Technology for cutting ceiling plinths

For prompt and quality work it is necessary to choose a tool in accordance with the material of the baseboard and choose a way of cutting. If you have a wire cutter, then there will be no special difficulties in the process. If it does not exist, then you have two options: to cut according to the template and measurements on the ceiling, or to make this tool yourself.

Features of cutting ceiling plinths in the jigsaw

Work with this device should be extremely careful not to blunt the tool and not to leave cuts in unnecessary places. In the process, we adhere to the following instructions:

Fix the baguette in the jig the way you plan to place it on the wall. The side, which will be pressed to the ceiling on the stool, should be adjacent to the sidewall.

When cutting and trimming products from foam and polyurethane remember that these materials crumble and squeeze, so tools should be sharp enough, and a strong mechanical effect on them is undesirable.

Technique of cutting ceiling plinths on a template

This method can be used in that case if the corners of your company are straight, and it is required to trim the baguette exactly on 45 degrees. To do this, before you cut the ceiling plinth in the corners, you need to draw a jig on heavy paper. Draw two parallel lines and mark corners at the required degrees, using a protractor.

Place the fillet in this case in the same way as on a traditional mortiser. Please note, that the skirting boards must be cut keeping the tool in a vertical position.

Rules of cutting ceiling plinths by marking

This method is used to cut the skirting boards in cases where there is no jigsaw, or parts from which it can be made.

To do this, you must make a marking on the wall in this order:

We put a baguette in a corner to the place of fastening.

When cutting in this way, it is important to accurately draw all lines and mark points. A mistake of even a few millimetres will cause a gap. This method is suitable for cutting and docking both inside and outside corners of the ceiling plinth.

How to cut a ceiling plinth without a chisel

To neatly join the inner corners of the fillets, you can do without a plier.

We enclose the end part of the baguette to a sheet of paper and trace the contour of the convex side. It is more convenient to use a small section of the baseboard (if available).

Not every interior design involves the use of ceiling plinth, but most often the overall appearance of the room seems incomplete without it. In the attachment of this element. moldings. there is nothing complicated, almost all types of skirting boards are attached to the glue. But the question of how to properly trim the ceiling plinth in the corners of rooms, can puzzle many.

ceiling, moldings, corners

After all, even in the simplest rooms, there are interior corners where ceiling plinth strips must be accurately and beautifully docked. And in more complex room configurations will also have to join the skirting boards, making an outside corner. In this article we will look at different options on how to cut the ceiling plinth with or without the help of hand tools.

First, you should deal with the question of what to cut the ceiling plinth, the answer depends on the material from which the fillet is made. At the moment, ceiling skirting boards are sold in polyvinyl chloride (PVC), polystyrene (foam), polyurethane and wood.

PVC ceiling skirting boards are the cheapest.

They easily form dents and creases that cannot be repaired, so the product has to be thrown away. Also their disadvantage is electrostatic. the ability to attract dust. They can be cut with a sharp construction knife or hacksaw.

Skirting boards made of polystyrene foam are also cheap. This material is very fragile, when processed easily crumbles, so cut the polystyrene foam must be a sharp knife or hacksaw for metal, not making too much pressure.

Extruded polystyrene skirting boards are slightly more expensive than polystyrene boards, denser and harder to cut. Nevertheless, they crumble less, so they are easier and more convenient to work with. They can be cut with a construction knife and a metal hacksaw.

Polyurethane skirting boards are the most expensive at the moment. They are strong, flexible and watertight; they are easy to cut with a construction knife and do not crumble.

A disadvantage of polyurethane skirting boards is their dependence on temperature differences. For example, above a gas stove, a polyurethane skirting board will get residual deformations and start to crack slightly. If you try to treat or trim such a skirting board, it may warp or otherwise deform.

Wooden ceiling skirting boards are heavy, dense products that can only be trimmed with a hacksaw, preferably with fine, frequent cogs. It is also possible to use a metal strip.

Before proceeding to the list of ways, how to properly cut the ceiling plinth, I would like to note that there is a possibility not to cut the plinth with special precision.

On sale there are special corner elements, in which the edges of the skirting are inserted. In this case it is enough to trim the skirting board at an angle of 90 °, and the corner element will hide all the flaws. But this method is not always used, because the size of the corner elements is somewhat larger than the skirting boards themselves, so the corners in the room will stand out against the general background.

Sometimes it can look clumsy. Nevertheless, if the room design allows the use of corner elements for ceiling skirting, it makes sense to use them. The following instructions will be useful to those who have nevertheless decided to precisely cut the baseboards to a given angle.

How to Cut a Ceiling Baseboard Corner with a Jigsaw

The mortiser is a simple carpentry tool, allowing you to cut the workpiece at the required angle.

The most common is a tray of plastic, wood or metal with vertical slots for cutting at an angle of 90 ° and 45 °. There are also more complex designs of the skirting board. for cutting at angles of 90, 60 and 45 degrees. For more professional work, a power plier with a pivoting mechanism is used, where the hacksaw can be fixed at any angle to the workpiece.

How to cut a ceiling plinth with a wire cutter. inside corner:

  • We apply the skirting board to the ceiling, measure the required length.
  • Then mount the baseboard plinth in the notch so that the position coincides with the position of the plinth on the ceiling.
  • The skirting board must be pressed against the far wall of the jigsaw.
  • Hold the skirting board with the left hand.
  • We choose the position of the hacksaw so that the angle is 45 degrees, with the handle of the hacksaw close to the left hand.
  • Cut the workpiece without making excessive pressure on the saw.
  • The next step is cutting the skirting boards. Position it also against the far wall of the jigsaw.
  • Press it down and hold it with your right hand.
  • We choose the position for the hacksaw when the angle is 45 degrees and the handle of the hacksaw is close to the right hand.
  • Cutting the baseboard.
ceiling, moldings, corners

Then we dock the cut skirting boards and check the accuracy of the cut. For a more accurate orientation, they also say that to perform the inner corner, you need to start cutting from the front of the baseboard. Once you have trimmed the wooden skirting boards, you may still have to mill them with a file.

How to cut the ceiling plinth with a wire cutter. the outer corner:

  • In order not to make a mistake with the size, it is better to start with the marking of the inner corner, and then already cut the outer corner. Otherwise it is possible that the plank may not be long enough.
  • Hold the slat against the ceiling and mark out the measurements.
  • Position the ceiling plinth trim and press it to the nearest wall.
  • Hold it with your left hand and choose a 45 degree angle position for the hacksaw when the handle is close to your left hand.
  • Cut the workpiece.
  • Set the counter bar to the nearest wall, hold it with the right hand.
  • Set the hacksaw at a 45 degree angle, with the handle close to the right hand.
  • We cut the workpiece and dock the corner.

Trimming of a blank with the help of the chair is suitable only if the angle between walls is even. 90 degrees. If, however, accuracy leaves much to be desired, we will have to use other methods.

Technology for cutting ceiling plinth

In this article, we will consider the basic ways of how to cut the skirting boards on the ceiling, so that the finished result looks as neat as possible. In order to understand how to cut correctly, let’s understand what are the ceiling skirting boards and what materials they are made of.

Materials

Tacks for the ceiling come in the following types:

, The most accessible material, which is becoming more and more popular. Lack of strength is not a disadvantage in this case, because the baseboard is out of reach and does not undergo mechanical stress It is also an inexpensive finishing material, but more dense than Styrofoam. That is why when cutting such products one has to apply more force. Despite the complexity of processing, the material is cut with a sharp knife.

  • Wood is the most difficult material to work with. To install a wooden skirting board, it is advisable to use a hacksaw.

Structurally, a ceiling plinth is a kind of decorative molding. This element appears in the sale under different names, such as batten and baguettes. Regardless of the choice of manufacturing materials, ceiling skirting is an excellent solution for the interior design of the room. This structural element is mounted on one of the most difficult parts of the surface of the walls and ceiling. at the junction.

If you know how to trim a ceiling plinth in the corners, you can perform an aesthetically attractive interior design even in the presence of small reliefs on the surface of the walls. In addition, using the fillet, you can hide mistakes made when installing a suspended ceiling, when wallpapering or when painting the walls.

Before proceeding to the installation, you need to determine how to cut the ceiling skirting boards. The main difficulty is to maintain the required angle when cutting. After all, only in this case, the two skirting boards will come together at the junction of the two walls and the ceiling without visible gaps.

Tip: If gaps form during installation of the fillets due to lack of experience, they can be sealed using baguette glue, silicone or sealants in white with a similar consistency.

Cutting corners on two adjacent baseboards

So, let’s understand how to trim the corners of the ceiling plinth. There are several equally effective ways: cutting with and without a jigsaw.

A chisel is a plastic, wood, or metal device that acts as a template to guide a hacksaw or knife to the desired angle.

Cutting with a jig allows you to maximize the accuracy of the machined end-face.

How to Cut Ceiling Baseboard in Corners with a Jigsaw

Processing parts without a template is possible, but only if you have sufficient skill, a particularly accurate eye and know at what angle to cut the ceiling plinth. If we decided to decorate a square corner with fillets, which is traditional for most private and apartment houses, the ends of both blanks are cut at an angle of 45 degrees, so that when the two parts are combined, a tight connection is formed without a visible gap.

Tip: before you cut ceiling skirting boards, try making a few cuts on a test strip.

Cutting in the jigsaw

  • We take in hands a wire cutter, which looks like a tray made of aluminum, plastic or wood. Regardless of what this carpentry tool is made of, it should be used with extreme care. Inexperienced users can leave notches in the jigsaw, or blunt the cutting tool.

On the sides of the tool we can see the gaps at the desired angle. The gaps guide the blade of the cutting tool at the desired angle to the longitudinal axis of the tray.

  • We put the baseboard slat in the jigsaw in the position that it will be put on the ceiling. Fix the piece in the jigsaw so that the side that will later be pressed to the ceiling, tightly against the side of the tray.
  • Insert the cutting tool into the desired gap and cut. For Styrofoam and polystyrene a metal hacksaw or a sharp knife with a long, unbending blade is used. For wooden baseboards use a hacksaw with larger teeth.
  • After one piece is cut, we treat the end of the adjacent skirting board and attach it to the wall in a test order. If there are small gaps on the foam product (not more than 2 mm), straighten the end with a sharp knife. If a gap is noticeable at the junction of the wooden skirting boards, fit both ends, using sandpaper glued to a wooden bar.

If you learned how to cut a ceiling plinth, it will be easy to understand that this is not a difficult process. But avoid excessive force when processing the ends of the fillets. The matter is that, exerting mechanical influence on the foam plastic or styrofoam, you can significantly deform the decorative element. Styrofoam crumbles easily, while polystyrene squeezes through. By the way, even the wooden elements of the decor when unskillful and hurried sawing cracks and splits.

Cut without a joiner

It can happen that the baseboard is not handy, and how to trim the ceiling plinth in the corners in this case? There are three methods you can use to get the best results.

A good eye and a little patience and an excellent result is assured!

The renovation of your apartment is coming to an end. Specialists have finished finishing the walls and ceiling, and are ready to start gluing ceiling skirting boards. Why pay money for something you can do yourself?? The price of professional installation of foam strips, on average, is equal to the cost of the material itself.

Believe me, with a little patience, you can cope with gluing yourself. To do this, carefully read about how to cut the corners of the ceiling plinth and make installation.

Trimming the baseboard

Trimming with the planking mitre

How to evenly cut the corner of the ceiling plinth with it?

Stylom is a simple tool that carpenters use. With its help, you can cut any workpiece at the desired angle.

It is usually a wooden, metal or plastic tray, on which special vertical slots are made for cutting at an angle of 45 ° and 90 °.

There are complicated designs which, in addition to the corners mentioned, also have a hole to make a 60-degree cut.

For professional applications a special plane is available. Its swivel mechanism allows you to fix the cutting blade in relation to the workpiece at any given angle.

Inner corner

The prepared skirting board is put against the ceiling and the required length is put aside.

Then this same plank is inserted into the notch exactly as it will be located on the ceiling. This should be pressed against the far wall of the device. Hold the skirting board in this position with the left hand.

The blade of the hacksaw should be in such a position that its angle is 45 degrees, and the handle is as close as possible to the hand. Trying to avoid exerting pressure on the saw, we carefully cut the workpiece.

Next, it is necessary to cut a mating strip from the skirting board. It is also placed at the far wall of the tool, held and pressed, this time, with the right hand.

A similar position to the previous procedure of the hacksaw. its handle is close to the hand at an angle of 45 degrees. The skirting is trimmed.

Then the already cut upper and lower slats are docked together to check that they fit perfectly. It is believed that for better orientation, when making an inner corner, it is better to start cutting from the front part of the product. Places of cuts usually need to be further adjusted with a file.

Outer corner

The correct way to observe more accurately the dimensions, first start to measure the inside corner, and only then proceed to the outer corner.

Otherwise, it could happen that there is not enough wood along the entire length of the board.

The strip is attached to the ceiling, according to the size made marks. Holding the left hand, the ceiling plinth is pressed to the closest wall and the handle of the hacksaw is brought nearer to the hand. The workpiece is cut off.

The counter batten is pressed against the nearest wall, holding it with the right hand. The blade of the hacksaw should be at an angle of 45 °, the handle of the tool is close to the hand of the master. A piece of the piece is cut off and the corner is neatly joined together.

Such processing of the edge of the parts with a mash is good in cases where the angle between the walls is even and straight (90 °).

If its performance leaves much to be desired, it is worth using another method.

Marking on the ceiling

The method with a marking on the ceiling allows you to cut the corner accurately and evenly. It has one disadvantage. it is rather inconvenient to hold the baseboard by weight during the procedure.

In all other respects, you can use this method to estimate the angle of the cut even more accurately than the other methods.

When the skirting board is applied to the intended place of installation, all dimensional deviations and inaccuracies are noticeable and are immediately taken into account.

Trimming the corner

First you need to take a pair of blanks, then cut them at right angles. Resting the end of the slat against a perpendicular wall, we apply one slat. Mark the trimmer line on the ceiling, following the contour of the skirting boards. We remove the first plank, then in the same way, having pressed its end against the wall, we put a counter plank. Mark the trimmer line along the contour in the same way.

The intersection point of the two separate lines is the point at which the piece is cut. Each plank is placed against the surface again, on both marks the point of the future cut. From the point found to the other edge of the skirting board, draw a trimmer line. Baseboards we cut on the previously made marks, accurately juxtapose, we dispose in a place of their installation.

This method allows you to more accurately handle the inside corners.

How to trim a ceiling plinth correctly. Important details

Measurements necessary for trimming the skirting boards on the ceiling, should be made in a special way. To determine and mark the inside corner, the length must be measured from the corner itself. To mark the outer corner, be sure to take into account that deep into the room the baseboard will protrude at a distance that equals its width.

It is not desirable to fix the skirting boards before their precise positioning has been tested and the mating skirting has been cut. Only when the two mating strips match perfectly in the corner can you begin to mount and fasten them. If you are working with polyurethane or wooden baseboards, defects and flaws can be corrected with a file or file. To fit the product of foam plastic, you should arm yourself with a sharp knife.

If even a small gap remains after finishing the skirting boards, do not get upset. it is not difficult to seal it with an ordinary putty. It is not that difficult to cut a ceiling plinth accurately and neatly. But in order to acquire at least a small skill, first try to practice on small workpieces.
