  • If the room has the correct shape, then the linoleum is pushed up against the wall with an overlap and cut off at the junction.
  • For joining the canvases with a pattern, the first canvas is laid out on the floor surface. The second canvas is superimposed over the first until the joining edge forms a continuation of the pattern. Next, the edge is pressed with a long ruler and cut through both pieces.

I must say right away that I have never been a supporter of advertisements and I get annoyed when ugly orcs from a new online game or frivolous ladies with a 5th bust size and huge ruins come out of the corner on the screen, assuring us that they pumped up all this splendor in 3 days without surgeon’s intervention. Not only is it bullshit, but it’s also a pity for the girls!

But now is not about that. What I want to tell: the story of my belief in the honesty of manufacturers.

It so happened that one of my mother’s professions, before the birth of her granddaughter, was a designer. There are no retired designers, just like Chikists themselves. When they leave work, they always take with them a string of useful notes, contacts and addresses.

So, when a major overhaul was started in my apartment, all these mother’s stashes from somewhere very conveniently surfaced.

We quickly decided on the walls. No wallpaper. Only paint. Mom told in detail where in the construction market and what brand is better to get paint. They did not mix the color for a long time, because, as you know, you will mix it once. in a few years you will never repeat it. Why a little black “pokotska” can turn into an ugly patch, one tone different from the color of the entire wall. So we decided. let’s take a delicate, delicate cream color. Light, soothing and tasteful.

Furniture, plumbing and other joys of life, like curtains, immediately emerged by themselves. Everything in the same light colors, ideal for reliving the sleepless nights of a young mother.

There was still an open question with the sexes.

We already had a deplorable experience of covering the entire apartment with tiles. From the pros: easy to clean, does not swell. Of the minuses: cold, if you do not do floor heating, but if you do heating. very expensive! and without heating the price is palpable. And some brands of tiles also prick! By God, now it will be like in a children’s horror story: one very stupid girl somehow cut vegetables in the kitchen and dropped the knife. just kidding! just a friend’s husband pinned some heavy part from the car, put it on the tile with a flourish. she split. Is it a shame? insulting! What is most deplorable for me personally is the seams! They are always clogged with dirt! Oh, how I did not like this procedure of endless crawling on all fours with a toothbrush. You feel like an archaeologist, no more like a young naturalist digging in the soil in search of earthworms. In short, I wanted to cut the tiles in the new apartment as much as possible so that the future baby would not chill her legs and slip on a smooth surface.

Linoleum was depressing at once. Soviet-style sad and rubbery.

Parquet was frightening for its complexity in installation and handling. It needs to be rubbed with something from time to time, it fades from the sun, over time it begins to creak and does not tolerate any water at all. And with a child it’s funny!

It got sadder with each option I checked. “A man has not yet invented such a material to combine warmth, beauty, ease of handling and tolerance to water”. I concluded, and with a squeak in my heart I began to prepare for compromises. But my mother stopped me. With eyes round in surprise, she asked the question: “You choose the gender. Funny”. I didn’t understand the humor. “What is there to think about ?! Let’s put the aquastep laminate”. “Which one?” “Aquastepovsky! Waterproof! We put it to everyone. Remember, they also had a stand at the expo with an aquarium in which turtles swam all day”.

The picture began to recover in my memory. Even before pregnancy, we went to the expo. Mom introduced me to suppliers, showed me different materials, talked to colleagues and drew inspiration. Towards the end, my mother took me to a small stand and proudly said: “And these are representatives of the company selling Aqua Step laminate. Absolutely waterproof and damage resistant”. I greeted the guys, but my attention was attracted more by a chic aquarium, in which three hefty turtles were frolicking, and 2 laminate boards served as additional decorations for their performance! Right inside the aquarium! Completely underwater!

“How long have they been swimming here??”. I asked, pointing to the turtles.

“Round the clock. We feed them only 2 times a day.”.

“We do not feed the boards. But they also swim around the clock”.

Then there was a lengthy story about what Aqua step is doing in Belgium. That it is the only 100% waterproof laminate in our market. And that neither cat’s claws nor the wheels of cars are afraid of him, and you can put it everywhere: in the pool, living room, in the kitchen and in the garage! The story was beautiful, but like a fairy tale. I’ll be honest. In addition, the issue of laminate did not interest me at all then. And I put all the information I heard in a distant corner of the brain until better times.

Better times were not long in coming.

So, a new apartment, renovation, the choice of flooring. I was a little worried about the price issue, because the vaunted laminate was not very cheap (about 44 per square meter), however, through her design channels, my mother managed to get 10 coupons with codes, each of which gave a 10% discount when buying laminate for an area of more than 50 square meters and 5% when buying a laminate for an area of less than 50 squares).

In short, we made up our minds. We took the Wood 4W model (beveled on 4 sides), color. Pine Champagne. We bought a laminate for more than 70 meters, hired a team. They went to bed quickly. I was not present at this process. Therefore, I will not describe. When I arrived at the apartment, the entire nursery, bedroom and living room were sparkling! Very stylish and light.

And after a weekend at the dacha, the most interesting thing happened.

On Sunday evening, a newly-minted neighbor called us and in a hysterical voice said that we seemed to be completely nuts and it would be better for us to come immediately, because we are drowning them. Fortunately, we were already at the entrance to Moscow. Out of breath, we rushed into the apartment, and found that a battery had burst in the children’s room! Boiling water was poured all over the room, the depth of the puddle was probably a centimeter, the water crept up to the door. Personally, I was seized by such horror that, as they say, I can neither say a word nor describe it with a pen. Just fear, emptiness, and a howling wind in my soul. A picture worthy of filming the movie “Titanic” or at least “Grandfather Mazai and the Hares.” Boiling water, laminate. Laminate, boiling water. 2 words that were spinning in my head all the time while we closed the battery, fixed the leak, waited for it to cool and wiped the floor. I had already said goodbye to an impressive sum of money and began to wait for the swollen boards, with longing in my soul falling asleep at night. But a day passed, a second, a week. And nothing happened to the laminate! Nothing! Not a single speck or swelling. Not a single crack or failure. I would personally say that the manufacturers’ promises are just another nonsense, if I had not seen it with my own eyes! This is already beyond my understanding.

A few months later, we moved into the apartment. The baby began to crawl on the floor, then run. And now we are 2 years 10 months old, and there was a lot in our relationship with the laminate: compote baths, scratching with tongs, cat’s claws and smearing with shoe polish. But from the first day to the present moment, it serves us faithfully, and has not upset us with a single indelible stain or scratch.!

So really many thanks to the manufacturers. These guys didn’t lie.

How to cut

Before cutting, the panels are leveled so that the joint is perfect. Usually, this does not cause big problems. the edges of the rolled panels are quite even and may require only a slight reworking of the joint for laying the adhesive cord during hot welding. At the junction with the walls, everything will be much more complicated. When cutting, it is necessary to leave a small, a few millimeters gap between the wall and linoleum.

It will be required so that after some time the tightly pressed sheet of material has the opportunity to expand slightly. It will not be possible to immediately press the entire canvas tightly to the floor. small irregularities still remain, and after walking around the floor for some time and placing furniture, it will “disperse” a little to the sides. Clearance will solve this problem.

Pruning is carried out quite simply. a similar method is used to cut wallpaper near the ceiling. A strong rigid ruler or rule is applied to the material and a cut is made using it with a knife. If the walls are uneven, you can make a kind of pattern that repeats the profile of the walls and transfer the line to a piece of canvas that will adjoin it. Don’t forget about the gaps. The same patterns are transferred to the material and all joints with different pipes and other communications. If you cut not “in place”, but along pre-drawn contours, everything turns out to be much more accurate, and the fit will be tighter.

Tool selection

When choosing a product, it is necessary to take into account a number of the following criteria:

  • Strength and reliability of the handle. If the tool has this component of poor quality, then with strong pressure it can break.
  • Availability of spare cutting elements, if the product is of the appropriate design.
  • Durability and optimal blade thickness.

In addition, you need to take into account the indicators of the floor material that will be processed. In this case, pay attention to the thickness and strength of the coating.

Cutting features

Before cutting out the linoleum, you will need all the cutting tools, rulers, a level, and duct tape. It is also necessary to prepare the surface before laying it:

  • If previously there was carpet on the floor, then it must be carefully removed. After that, you need to clean the surface.
  • If the floors are wooden, check the condition of the boards. If possible, replace bad boards. Cracks between them can be filled. If the surface cannot be repaired, then it is necessary to lay sheets of plywood or chipboard. It is carefully necessary to deepen the hats of the hardware.
  • If you already had linoleum, then if the condition is not entirely bad, it can be used as a base for fresh linoleum. The main thing is to thoroughly degrease the surface.
  • The easiest option is to lay linoleum on concrete floors. It must be remembered that all irregularities will be felt through the new material and cause discomfort, both physical and moral.
  • Before laying and cutting, linoleum must be rolled out in the room. so it will become smoother and the smell will disappear.

If you buy it in the winter, then you need to try to leave the material on the street as little time as possible. he does not like the cold. Therefore, we bring the roll into heat and leave it first in a rolled state. After letting it lie down for a couple of days, the roll can be unrolled.

After acclimatization, linoleum can be cut out. You need to know and remember:

  • It is better to put a plain canvas in the direction of the light. This creates the effect of a “monolithic” finish;
  • The canvas must be placed in a pattern, parallel to the outer wall, with strict adherence to the pattern;
  • The joint does not have to be in the center of the room. Often two joints are made, but at the edges of the rooms. This does not create a visual division of the room into two parts, and furniture can often hide the joints at the edges of the room;
  • Indoor pipes can be a problem. To cut cutouts for pipes, you need to bend the material outward and cut the necessary slots at an angle.

Linoleum covers the entire floor surface. It is advisable to leave 5-10 cm on each side in reserve, then they can be cut. In cold temperatures, linoleum can shrink. Heat waves can cause heat waves. There is no need to throw away the scraps. they can be useful for minor repairs of the canvas.

After you have trimmed it along the wall and trimmed it along the holes, you need to let the linoleum lie on the floor. Only after that it is necessary to start laying it.

How to cut linoleum at home correctly with your own hands

To find out how to cut linoleum at home with your own hands, it is best to familiarize yourself in more detail with the different tools that are designed for this task. After that, you will be able to make the best choice for yourself and start cutting the material.

Scissors

With the help of ordinary tailor’s scissors, you can also cut linoleum, but they must be perfectly sharpened, or you should use special models that look like a secateurs, the handles of which are at an angle relative to the cutting edge, in many cases of a saw type. Thanks to this design, the tool is very convenient to use. In addition to linoleum, with their help, it is easy to carry out uniform cutting of carpet and plastic. The quality of the scissors affects the cost, but still, even professional products can be purchased at an affordable price. Unlike conventional tailors, special models of the tool do not bite the floor material and do not move to the sides, allowing more accurate cutting.

How to properly cut linoleum when laying. the choice of tools and technology of work

Hello. There is nothing difficult in cutting linoleum. The main thing is to choose the right tool, since it is very difficult to cut a dense canvas even with a well-sharpened knife or stationery.

Choosing a knife for linoleum

There is nothing difficult in cutting linoleum. The main thing is to choose the right tool. After all, it is difficult to cut through the face layer with an ordinary knife or scissors due to its density. Therefore, it is recommended to use a special tool.

Docking two or more canvases

Cold welding is used to join two or more canvases.

Fixing linoleum to the floor can be done in several ways. Glue applied over the entire floor surface is the most reliable solution. Double-sided adhesive tape is used for rooms where fixing rigidity does not matter or linoleum is a temporary floor covering.

The adhesive mass is prepared for work according to the instructions on the package. A spatula is used for application. First, linoleum is fixed against the wall for a large width of the canvas (60-70%). The adhesive is applied to a clean surface in undulating movements without excess.

After that, the web is carefully lowered and rolled with a heavy roller. If there is no roller, then it can be replaced with a regular building level wrapped in a soft cloth. The surface must be carefully smoothed over the entire area.

Do the same with the second half of the room. To join the canvases, you will need to glue the tape along the entire length and remove the protective coating. After that, an adhesive mass is applied to the remaining part. After gluing, the seam should be carefully rolled.

If you plan to weld the seam, then it is necessary to cut a groove for the filling. Before welding, it is necessary to thoroughly warm up the hair dryer for several minutes, put on the nozzle and insert the cord.
