What needs to be prepared?
Before gluing removable tinting on the front glass of a car or window of an apartment, you need to prepare:
- tint film;
- a very sharp clerical knife;
- thin marker;
- a scraper made of rubber or plastic;
- soap solution;
- regular home hair dryer;
- glass dismantling tools.
Which film is right? You can only use those products that comply with the PDR standards. Also, they must be of high quality (see photo). In no case should you buy cheap Chinese materials, because they not only will not meet the existing standards, but will also very quickly acquire defects. It is not advisable to use the tools that come with the tint film in your work. Most often, they are not very high quality and they will be enough for toning a maximum of one glass. Next, we will consider how to properly glue removable tinting on the front windows of the car at home.

How to glue tinting on a car at home
Using tinting is the easiest way to make your “iron horse” even more beautiful. And sometimes it is simply necessary, for example, in the summer, when the sun constantly looks into the windows of the apartment. Toning can easily be done at home. But not everyone knows how to do it correctly. To do this, first of all, you need to prepare all the materials and tools necessary for the work, cut out the material and only then you can proceed to the main work. How to properly glue the tinting? What kind of tinting can be glued? About this and many other things below.

How to cut material?
After it became clear what kind of tinting to glue, you can proceed to cutting the material. This stage of work is very important. In order to properly cut the removable tint on the side and front windows, you must:
During work, it is necessary to keep from unevenness at the edges, and also avoid bending of the material.
It is best to carry out all work with the glasses removed. To dismantle them, you will need to use special tools. Can you glue the tinting on the tinting? It is better not to do this. Before tinting the car, you must completely clean all glass from foreign materials. To do this, you must thoroughly moisten them with soapy water, and then wash with chemicals.
In the room where the work is carried out, there should be no drafts and there should be a little high humidity. A bathroom is ideal for this at home. After the glasses are washed, their final cleaning will need to be carried out using a special metal scraper. If you don’t have one at hand, you can use an old razor. Only having received a perfectly smooth surface can you be sure that the film will not swell or become covered with other defects over time.
How to glue tinting on a car? In order to glue the removable tinting on the side and front windows of the car, you must:
- to separate the film from the backing, to do this quickly enough to glue the tape to the edge of the backing and pull on it;
- moisten the adhesive side of the film with soapy water, which will prevent accidental sticking or bending;
- moisten the inside of the glass with soapy water;
- correctly position the film on the surface, especially at the edges;
- press the tint film to the surface;
- use a rubber or plastic spatula wrapped in a soft cloth to remove air bubbles;
- gently drive with a spatula from the center to the edges and at the same time try not to tear off the film and not make scratches;
- dry the concave surface with a hairdryer;
- leave the structure in this form for several hours in a room where there are no drafts and direct sunlight;
- with a sharp knife, carefully cut off the edges of the film, leaving an overlap of no more than half a centimeter;
- leave the structure at rest for about another day.
After this time, the tint film is completely adhered to the windows, after which the latter can be inserted back into the car. This must be done very carefully, because with the least touching, the film can be damaged. The first time of use, you cannot drive quickly with open windows, and also often use power windows. For more detailed information on how to properly glue the tinting, see the video presented.
Acceptable glass tinting 2021
Russian laws, including the Code of Administrative Offenses, allow glass tinting. There is nothing illegal in the very fact of toning. It is only important to darken the car windows in accordance with the rules with an eye to GOST.
The rear window of the car and the rear side windows can be tinted to an opaque state. Full opacity of the rear hemisphere is not illegal.
Front windows are subject to the 70% / 75% rule. Based on it, the light transmittance of the side, front windows should not be less than 70%, and the windshield should not be less than 75%. In addition, GOST allows an opaque strip in the upper part of the windshield.
The use of mirror (reflective) film is not expressly prohibited in the Code of Administrative Offenses. However, in accordance with the rules of the “Technical Regulations on the Safety of Wheeled Vehicles” adopted by all countries of the Customs Union, mirror films are not allowed on cars.
The ban on the use of mirror tinting applies to both the front and rear windows of cars. The limitation is due to the reflection of headlights on mirrored surfaces. It is believed that large mirror areas on cars can distort headlights, confuse the driver and lead to road accidents.
The practice of applying the ban on mirror tinting differs depending on the regions of Russia.
In 2020-2021, new rules for changing the light transmission, color and reflective properties of car glasses will come into force. Prohibiting tinting, as some motorists believed, is currently not planned. Nevertheless, the minimum allowable percentage of light transmission of the windscreen and front side windows will change. 70% under the terms of the new GOST 33997-2016.
I note that by the end of 2020, the restrictions of GOST 5727 are in force, according to which the light transmittance of the windshield must be at least 75%.
Tinting in 2021: changes, penalties
There are no requirements for the degree of tinting of the rear window.
If you wish, you can seal it with a completely opaque film, and this will not be a violation of current legislation.
Fine for tinting in 2021
The level of light transmission of glass is usually measured by the traffic police. To do this, they must have special devices, and the driver in this case has the right, before taking measurements, to look at the sensors that are attached to his vehicle for any damage or the presence of any objects that cast doubt on the adequacy of the assessment.
The fine for violation in terms of tinting the windows of a car under the legislation of the Russian Federation reaches five hundred rubles. Within 10 days after it is discharged, the penalty can be paid with a 50% discount.
If the driver agrees to immediately eliminate his offenses, simply put, to remove the training on the spot, then he receives a warning. If it is not possible to remove the film on the spot, then the inspector can issue a fine for tinting and a recommendation to eliminate the violation, which must be completed within a certain period. as a rule, the period reaches 15 days.
If the toning is not removed at the specified time, and the fine remains unpaid, then the repeated violation entails already more significant financial sanctions. up to 1,000 rubles or arrest for 15 days. It is naturally necessary to appoint an arrest or a second fine for tinting from January 1 in accordance with the norms of the current legislation, that is, only a court can do this. If a driver is first seen in such an offense, then his chances of being arrested are very low, but if a person has a lot of violations, then the probability is seriously increased.
Interesting fact! Usually, in Russia, traffic police inspectors take up especially hard on violators according to the norms in tinting in the summer season. It is in the summer that there are more people who want to “decorate” their vehicle with a dark film, so many motorists ignore the requirements of technical regulations and drive with tinted windows, which affects road safety.
Officially, tinting in 2021 is not prohibited in Russia. A coating that darkens windows by only 15% can be safe. However, this does not save from the bright sun and does not hide the contents of the vehicle interior from prying eyes. There is definitely no sense in such toning. Only the rear windows can be completely darkened.
The main rule is that you cannot use films with a mirror effect, because it is prohibited throughout Russia in principle.
It is allowed to stick a thick strip. up to 14 cm wide on the top of the windshield. This will protect the driver’s eyes from sunlight.
Most car manufacturers bring new cars to the market already with factory tinting. It meets all the parameters, but many drivers, especially in Russia, prefer to train on their own. This is usually done by spraying or sticking polymer to the inside of the glass cover and the new tinting law in 2021.
It is interesting! Today there is a so-called electric tinting. It is an innovative technology that is usually only used on luxury cars, because the cost of such an installation itself is quite high. The driver gets the right to change the transparency of the glass by pressing one button. It changes the voltage on the glass and changes the degree of dimming.
The vehicle owner will be fined only if the light transmission is below normal during testing. And the traffic police officer, according to the norms of the current legislation, cannot force the driver to increase the darkening of the glass before the test.
Naturally, the tint tax was introduced in 2021 for a reason. It is believed that most of the accidents on the road occur due to the fact that drivers cannot adequately assess the whole situation due to tinted glass. However, this is not the only reason why the authorities decided to cancel the tint. And a rather high role in this issue was played by the fact that the government was concerned about the safety of the traffic police.
The story of the legislative acts, on the basis of which the traffic police make decisions on the admissibility of tinting and fines for their violations, is mysterious and surprising. Until now, the Appendix to the Traffic Rules mentions GOST 5727-88 “Safety glass for ground transport” (SDA, Appendix to the Basic Provisions, clause 7.3). In clause 2.2.4 it is written that “. the light transmission of windshields of vehicles and trams must be at least 75%, other glasses. at least 70%”.
The plate below contains an article from the Code of Administrative Violations of the Russian Federation, which provides for the responsibility of the driver for tinting the car.
Until 2015, the size of the first fine for tinting that did not meet the requirements of traffic rules (in fact, GOST 5727-88) was 500 rubles. and 1000 rubles. for a repeated violation. With the introduction of the new GOST and Technical Regulations in 2015, this amount has not changed, but already in 2016 a legislative initiative was introduced to the State Duma to toughen the punishment for violating the requirements of regulatory documents:
- the first fine was proposed to be increased 3 times. up to 1,500 rubles;
- repeated violation. a fine of 5,000 rubles;
- in case of triple violation. deprivation of the right to drive a vehicle for a period of two to six months.
True, by mid-2016, the clause on deprivation of the right to drive was removed from the bill and a document containing only the first two clauses got to the Duma’s specialized committee. In November of the same year, this bill was approved by the committee, but the new law has not yet been submitted even for the first reading.
Thus, as of January 1, 2021, the traffic police fine for tinting remained the same. 500 rubles.
Separately, it should be noted that if the fine for toning is not paid within 70 days from the date of imposition, the driver may be held liable:
- A fine of 1000 rubles;
- Compulsory community service for up to 50 hours;
- Administrative arrest for up to 15 days.
However, if the fine is paid within 20 days from the date of the issuance of the Resolution on the administrative violation, its amount is halved. Read more about this in our material: 50% discount on the payment of traffic fines. (there you will also find information about violations, the discount to which does not apply).
For the sake of fairness, it should be noted that there are really a lot of cars in violation of all conceivable interior dimming thresholds on the roads of Russia. And this is really dangerous for road users, especially at night. And the litigation regarding, in general, fair fines for tinting, are mainly devoted to cases in which the real light transmission does not even reach 15%.

What new tinting law came into force on February 1, 2021
In my opinion, the tightening of measures is fully justified. The main functions of tinting are to absorb sun glare and improve driving comfort. In addition, thanks to tinted windows, things left in the car interior become less noticeable, which prevents possible theft.
However, overly tinted cars are often the cause of road accidents. In 2019, 164,280 motorists were identified who violated the rules for car tinting. Changes in light transmittance in excess of the permissible norm limits visibility, especially at twilight and night, as a result of which the number of accidents increases.
It should also be noted that some cars are produced with factory tinting, which complies with the legislation. If the owner of the car decides to tint the vehicle, then he can choose any of the available methods: film, spraying, removable cover and others. However, it is forbidden to use mirror tinting. Most importantly, the shade does not exceed 30%.
There is one more nuance that should also be known to everyone who decides to tint car windows using a special film. Its main advantage is increased impact resistance. This, on the one hand, is a plus, since it protects against stones, but at the same time it is a minus: if the doors jam during an accident, the tinted glass will be more difficult to knock out. In addition, in a collision, the glass may not break completely and partially remain in the opening, which is unlikely to harm health, but can also increase the release time from the car.
It is important that the tint film is applied correctly, therefore it is better to contact a specialized service to apply tint. Errors when applying the film are fraught with the formation of creases, swelling, water accumulation under the film. Such defects will reduce visibility when driving, which in some cases can lead to an emergency.
The permissible level of tinting or darkening of automobile glasses with special means is regulated by the following regulations:
- GOST 32565-2013. National standard of the Russian Federation. Safety glass for land transport. General technical conditions (put into effect by the Order of Rosstandart dated November 22, 2013 N 2008-st);
- Decision of the Customs Union Commission dated 09.12.2011 N 877 (as amended on 25.12.2018) “On the adoption of the technical regulations of the Customs Union” On the safety of wheeled vehicles “- (Section 4 of Appendix 8);
- Traffic rules in the appendix List of faults clause 7.3.
In 2021, the permitted glass tinting in accordance with GOST is considered acceptable when:
- the percentage of tinted front windows and side windows in the front is not less than 70%;
- the top of the windshield is tinted with a strip no more than 14 cm wide, the percentage of light transmission is not limited.
Which glass is allowed to be tinted without restrictions? Only for rear side and rear windows with rear-view mirrors, allowing you to monitor the traffic situation.
Is mirror tinting on cars allowed or not? Mirroring is prohibited and any coating that creates a mirror effect.
Tinting film can be applied both outside and inside glass.
The legislation establishes for drivers driving a vehicle in violation of the glass tinting rule, liability in the form of a fine.
Its size is established by Part 3.1 of Art. 12.5 of the Administrative Code and amounts to 500 rubles with the requirement to eliminate the malfunction.
At the same time, the code provides for a reduction in the amount of the fine by half if it is paid within 20 days from the date of the relevant decision of the car inspector.
The main innovation of this law is to change the GOST, which regulates the level of light transmission of tinted glass in a car.
The new GOST assumes the division of all vehicle glasses into 2 categories:
- category. glass that provides the driver with a front view;
- category. glasses that provide the driver with a rear view.
What percentage of tinting is allowed? Permitted tinting of front windows (first category) in accordance with GOST is determined by the following light transmission coefficients:
- windshield tinting in accordance with GOST. 75%;
- tinted side front windows. 70%;
- according to GOST, the tinting of the rear windows of the car is not limited only if the car is equipped on both sides with side mirrors for rearview;
- in the upper area of the windshield, tint of any light transmittance is allowed, but the width of the tint cover is limited to 140 mm.
For the first time, the very concept of car glass with a polymer coating was legalized! Therefore, it is now allowed to tint the glass of vehicles independently, not only by pasting the glass with specially designed films outside and inside the cabin, but also by spraying.
What kind of tint can be glued to the front windows? In the last GOST, almost everything is allowed, but the main thing is to adhere to the permitted percentage of light transmission on the front windows, and this, you see, is not difficult.
So, first, let’s consider what kind of car glass tinting is allowed in 2021:
|one||Car rear window tinting.|
|2||Tinted rear side windows of the car.|
|3||Strip of transparent colored film on the upper part of the windshield.|
|four||Tinting of any car glass if its light transmission exceeds 70 percent.|
The first question that drivers are often interested in is the maximum width of the tint strip on the top of the windshield. For cars, it is 14 centimeters.
The second popular question is whether the driver will be fined for tint if a film is applied to the windshield and front side windows, the light transmission of which is exactly 70 percent.
To answer this question, one should take into account the fact that the light transmission of glass even in a new car does not reach 100 percent.
Let’s look at an example. If the light transmission of the new glass is 95 percent, and the tint film is 70 percent, then the final light transmission is calculated by the formula:
0.95 0.7 = 0.665 i.e. 66.5%
In practice, it doesn’t matter if the film is 70 percent transmissive or 5 percent transmissive. Both options are the same offense and carry the same penalty.
Tinting of the windshield and front side windows itself is not prohibited. In this case, it is necessary to take into account the only condition. the light transmission of tinted glass must be more than 70 percent.
In this case, you can try using a film with a light transmission of 85 to 95 percent.
Note. If you want to be sure that the toning complies with the current legislation, then after applying the film, check the light transmission with a special device. In car services that specialize in working with automotive glass, such devices are usually available.
There is a widespread myth among drivers that in Russia there is the possibility of obtaining a special permit for tinting, which allows the car to be tinted with any kind of films. The legislation does not provide for anything like this.
Note. If you see a tinted car on the street, this does not mean that its driver has a special permit. Most likely, the driver simply did not have time to get caught by the traffic police.
If the driver removes the tint immediately after the traffic police officer draws up a resolution to impose an administrative fine, then he will be able to avoid repeated punishments for the same violation. If the tint is not removed, then at the next stop by the traffic police, the driver will receive a new fine. The number of penalties is not limited.
Tinting reduces the amount of ultraviolet light entering the car interior, extinguishes the glare of oncoming traffic headlights and keeps the interior trim from burning out. Tinted windows preserve driver privacy while providing good visibility from the vehicle interior.
The film is attached without glue, so it does not damage the glass. Tinting improves the wear resistance of the material by absorbing micro-scratches. But the notion that dimming improves safety is misguided.
Modern glass is made so as not to crumble into small fragments in an accident. The frontal one does not break, but becomes covered with cracks, the side ones fly into small fragments with rounded edges that cannot injure a person. The film not only does not contain fragments, but can also affect the initial characteristics of the glasses, their “behavior” in the event of an accident.
Manufacturers use dimming mixtures at the time of the manufacture of glass for cars. Substances are added to the material that create a darkening effect, or vacuum deposition is applied, which is a thin metal layer. Factory tinting is one of the most durable, wear-resistant and high-quality.
All cars that are officially produced in Russia go on sale with a permitted shade level. Manufacturers take into account legal requirements and applicable regulations.
The downside to factory equipment is that the car owner cannot change the degree of sun protection. An additional layer will reduce the light transmission rate below that allowed by GOST. It will not be possible to carefully remove the film applied during the manufacture of the car.
The purpose of the athermal film is not to give any shade to the material on which it is applied, but to reduce the amount of heat that penetrates into the interior. Standard film retains a maximum of 20% heat. Energy-saving tinting efficiency:
- high. retains more than 70% of energy (for example, Crystalline 70, Crystalline 40);
- medium. 60-70% (SunTek CXP 80, LLumar AIR 80);
- low. 40-60% (“chameleon”, tint film with a carbon layer).
Appendix 7.3 “Basic provisions on the vehicle’s approval for operation.” contains a list of malfunctions, in the presence of which it is impossible to drive the car. Among others, there is such an item. “… cover that restricts the view from the driver’s seat”. It is allowed to stick films, if after that the light transmission of the car’s glasses will comply with GOST.
The windshield can trap no more than 25% of the light. In the upper part, a transparent colored film is allowed, the maximum width of which is 140 mm. Such a strip effectively protects the driver from the sun’s rays and the glare of headlights of oncoming traffic.
The initial light transmittance is approximately 95% (100% is only achievable in laboratory conditions). Over time, the material becomes cloudy from micro-scratches, the amount of transmitted light is reduced to 90%. Given the factory darkening and material characteristics, it is almost impossible to apply toner to the windshield while remaining within the legal framework.
What tinting is acceptable for front windows 2021
Hello, in this article we will try to answer the question “What kind of tinting is acceptable for the front windows 2021”. You can also consult a lawyer for free online right on the website.
The GOST requirements for the windshield in 2021 are even higher than the requirements for the front side windows. Here the minimum transparency is acceptable at the level of 75% (5% more transparent than in the case of side windows). The remaining 25% of the backlash goes to the factory blackout and material features. The windshield of a car in 2021, as well as its front side windows, cannot be tinted. Any paint or film will reduce the light transmittance of the dripped to a level prohibited by law. The only exception for the windshield is for the narrow top strip. According to GOST, the top of the windshield is tinted permissible.
What tinting is allowed according to GOST in 2021?
According to GOST in 2021, any tinting of the rear window and rear side windows is permissible. The traffic police never check it. Even if the rear windows are sealed with a completely opaque film, this is not a reason for a fine, this is not a violation of the law. You can dim the rear windows in any way you like.
Rear side glass tinting rules
The light transmission of the rear row side windows is not measured by the police. Any shading is acceptable.
Control of light transmission is carried out by traffic police inspectors using special devices. taumeters marked “Tonic”, “Blik”, “Blik”, “Light”.
Before the measurement, the driver has the right to:
- inspect all sensors that are attached to the car for the absence of foreign parts, films, dirt;
- familiarize yourself with the valid certificate;
- check if the device is sealed.
Police raids most often take place in summer. At this time, suitable conditions for measuring toning.
- pressure. 86-106 kPa;
- relative humidity. 40-80%;
- air temperature. 15-25 degrees Celsius.
All the requirements that the windshield of a car must meet during technical inspection and the quality parameters of the glass on the vehicle are listed in GOST 33997-2016 and 32565-2013, which replaced GOST R 51709-2001 and 5727-88. Summarized, the following list is obtained:
- – there should be no cracks on the glass from the steering wheel in the area where the wipers work;
- – all defects that affect the viewing angle, regardless of their location, are prohibited;
- – the throughput of glazing must be at least 70%, regardless of the presence or absence of tinting;
- – in the upper part of the glass, the light protection strip should not be wider than 14 cm (except for large-capacity vehicles and buses);
- – there should be no extraneous stickers, objects or images on the glass, this also applies to passes;
- – there should be no mirror films and materials on the glass.
As you can see, damage, including a cracked windshield, is not a sentence for passing a technical inspection, the only question is in the location and characteristics of the defects. We will analyze in detail with which of them the MOT will be completed successfully, and with which it will not.
In fact, there are only two options, and each with reservations:
- – if the crack is located on the passenger side, but only if the existing defect does not interfere with the driver’s view.
- – If the glass is cracked from the side of the driver’s seat, but outside the working area of the washer and wiper. Here you need to keep in mind that the case is borderline. technically, such a defect does not fall under the prohibitions of GOST, but in practice, technical experts can find fault. In this case, do not be afraid to refer to the admissibility of such damage in the GOST itself, but remember: if the technical expert has other questions about the condition of the car, this “borderline” crack on the windshield can become decisive in the question of whether you will pass the inspection or not.
Chips on the windshield are not mentioned in the GOST. the passage of the technical inspection, in theory, should not complicate. But remember: both small cracks and chips can grow into large damage over time, interfering with the view and affecting driving safety, which happens in most cases. We recommend not to delay the repair or replacement and eliminate defects in the early stages, it is both cheaper and safer. Repair the chip using GlassMedic® technology or replace the glass. and the issue of passing the technical inspection is removed, not to mention the com Forte and driving safety.
Tinting and wipers. It’s not just a cracked windshield that can get in the way of an inspection. If the toning on your vehicle does not comply with GOST 33997-2016, or the wipers are faulty, the technical expert will not give a diagnostic card either.
The origin and quality of the glass. On a note: even if the damage meets the requirements of GOST, it is many times easier to undergo an inspection with a broken windshield, if it is factory-made. If the glass is not “native”, the check will be stricter.
And further. The GOST does not specify the requirements for the integrity of the side and rear windows in detail, but remember, they must be intact a priori. And if your car has no side glass, is temporarily covered with plywood, polyethylene or a piece of plastic, then the inspection is guaranteed not to be passed successfully. Therefore, if any of the glasses is damaged, we advise you to repair or replace them without waiting for the appropriate instructions from the technical expert.
Glass inspection requirements are designed to guarantee safety. your own, first and foremost. Do not neglect this issue, do not try to mask and repair defects in artisanal conditions. Cracked glass warms up unevenly and, naturally, is less durable. We recommend changing and repairing them by professionals. this not only guarantees you a diagnostic card of a working car and a successful maintenance, but also a long service of the car, and your own safety.
We use Glass Medic® technology for chip repair, which completely restores the strength of the glass. Warranty. 10 years.
If the windshield needs repair or replacement, we advise you to contact specialized services for the repair and replacement of auto glass. Carglass® is always ready to help prepare your vehicle for a successful inspection.
The toning rules are currently regulated by a document called “Basic Provisions for the Admission of Vehicles to Operation”. If you open its application, then in clause 7.3 you can get acquainted with the full list of faults, as well as with the conditions under which the operation of the car becomes impossible. For example, installing additional items or applying coatings that will obstruct the driver’s view from the driver’s seat.
The specialists working in the Ministry of Transport reviewed the existing regulations and made adjustments. At the moment, GOST 5727, which was published in the USSR, in 1988, is taken as a basis. But it is planned that at the beginning of 2021 a new GOST number 33997, introduced in 2016, will begin to operate. It is he who will be referred to in the SDA.
When gluing a protective film or placing screens on the windows of the car, you will have to take into account the provisions of GOST, which suggests the following changes.
If we talk about the light transmittance of glasses, then in the current GOST for the windshield, an indicator of at least 75% is set. For the rest. at least 70%.
The new version of the document deals with the windshield, for which the indicator is set at 70%. If there are side mirrors, then for the rest of the glasses the light transmittance indicator will not be regulated in any way.
There will definitely not be a complete ban on car window tinting.
Most often, traffic police inspectors check the tinting in the summer months. It is during this season that the number of car owners who cover glass with a protective film is increasing. To avoid trouble, it is better to tint glass at a service station with masters who, when working, observe the provisions of GOST.
When self-gluing, you need to remember that in used cars, windshields and side windows let 90% of the sun’s rays pass not 100%. In order not to receive a fine, you will need to use a film that darkens the interior by no more than 20%. But there will be no strong effect, so the procedure for gluing the windshield will not make sense.
The new tinting law allows for any shade that meets:
- Standards of GOST 32565.
- Technical Regulations of the Customs Union.
- Traffic regulations.
Mirror shading, although not prohibited by GOST, is unacceptable according to technical regulations.
Drivers who decide to tint their vehicle should familiarize themselves with the established rules. The following toning according to GOST is regulated:
- The rear window of the car is allowed to be tinted at your discretion.
- There are no restrictions on the tinted rear side windows either.
- Partial tinted windshield is allowed. It can be pasted over with a transparent film, the light transmission of which meets the accepted standards (at least 70%).
- The tint strip is glued to the windshield at the top. Its maximum permissible width is 14 cm. There are no restrictions on light transmittance.
- Tinting of front windows is the application of a transparent film on them, the level of light transmission of which is more than 70%.
Having figured out which tinting is allowed, you need to familiarize yourself with the punishment for breaking the rules. In the current year, the inconsistency of toning with the established standards is fraught with sanctions:
- Imposition of a fine for toning in the amount of RUB 500. (Article 5 of the Administrative Code).
- Since November 2014, the inspector has no right to remove license plates from the vehicle as a punishment for improper tinting (changes to the Administrative Code).
- Tint prescription.
How To Tint a Windshield Sun Strip ( 2-Pieces )
Any employee of the State Traffic Inspectorate, not only an employee of technical supervision, can make sure that the light transmission is sufficient.
The amount of the fine for tinted glass is constant and does not vary depending on the light transmission or the number of tinted glass.
The car owner receives a prescription for tinting along with a formalized order to impose a fine. The main requirement of the document is to remove the tint film within the prescribed period (10-14 days). If the conditions are not met, the detention of the driver for 15 days can be applied as a punishment.
Those who are going to tint the glass of a car must first assess the light transmission of the material itself. Usually this figure does not correspond to 100%. In combination with 70% film, the level of light access to the car interior during the day may be less than expected. The latter means that the front side windows should not be tinted with the specified film. Otherwise, during the check, the car owner faces a fine.
In accordance with the rules of the new GOST, the light transmission of the windshield, as well as the front glass, must be at least 70%. All this is measured by special devices and no concessions are planned. Excessive tinting remains prohibited and will be punished with appropriate fines.
There is nothing revolutionary in the new toning law. All changes are due to the fact that the documents must be brought in accordance with modern GOST.
The project has already passed all public discussions, was agreed with the federal authorities, and in fact, in the new bill, the toning figures will change slightly, that is, there is no need to talk about whether toning will be allowed in 2021. The new law will be in effect from 2021.
What tinting is allowed on the windshield: we understand the regulations
At the beginning of 2015, the level of permeability into the cabin through the windshield was regulated by GOST 5727-88. During the period of action (from the beginning of the 90s) 4 edits were made. The latest version has been in effect since 2002. According to the legislation, tinting on car door windows and windshields must meet the requirements:
- the light transmission of the windshields is 75% or higher. In the frontal part, it was allowed to install a light protection strip, its width was also regulated by GOST (calculated by the formula), more often it was less than 15 cm.The calculation was based on the height for the unhindered operation of the wipers, the required viewing angle and regulatory zones;
- non-wind glasses related to the so-called can be tinted to protect from rays by no more than 30%;
- for other non-wind glasses, the standards do not have clear recommendations.
Car tinting according to GOST
Starting from 01.01.2015, amendments were made to the technical regulations, now toning is standardized by GOST 32565-2013. The legislation has reduced the standards of light transmission to 70% (5% lower than the previous figure). Thanks to the change in standards, tinting with athermal film has been legalized, which has been especially popular in recent years.
Similar requirements are introduced in another document. the technical regulations of the vehicle. Crossing the border with the countries of the Customs Union, you don’t have to worry about fines or problems at checkpoints.
It is worth supplementing the answer with what kind of tint can be used to tint the front windows, since the innovation has a fixed size of the dimming strip, now it is 140 mm. No standards have been developed for light transmission. Additionally, the division of the side windows into:
- type 1. create a view from the front;
- type 2. create a rear view.
The division into categories is based on the principles of geometric body distribution. The driver’s seat must be fitted with an “R-point” (so-called) from the factory. When passing a vertical mowing line through a point with a perpendicular position in relation to the longitudinal median plane of the machine, it is possible to divide the car into 2 parts. Front half with glass belongs to the first category, and the second to class 2.
Light transmission of glass in accordance with GOST
The new standards did not change the parameters of what kind of tint the front windows can be tinted. the amount of light after metering should be 70% or higher. If the design of the car provides 2 outside rear-view mirrors, any film can be applied to the glasses of category 2, since the corresponding standards have not been developed.
The SDA allowed the installation of curtains on the rear window of a passenger car or side windows of a bus. It turns out that the permissible rear window tint reaches complete impermeability.
If the applied film violates technical standards, it should be removed. There are several ways to remove the old tint. To simplify the procedure, use a soap solution and a hair dryer.
If you want to tint a car, electric tinting can be a way out. It changes the level of light transmission depending on the wishes of the user. The solution is convenient and effective, but expensive. An alternative would be chameleon tinting, it independently changes the permeability and costs less.
When choosing the types of toning, an athermal film for cars is preferred, it prevents strong heating and maintains high light permeability.
Athermal tinting: allowed or not?
It’s no secret that in the absence of a film, the car gets very hot. Even the presence of climate control does not show sufficient efficiency, passengers expire afterwards.
Due to the dissemination of metal particles in the spraying on glass, several advantages can be achieved:
- the interior heats up more slowly;
- the need to use an air conditioner is reduced;
- reduced fuel consumption;
- the atmosphere is improved due to the reduction of gas emissions.
With a strong blackout, the same effects occur, but there will be problems with the traffic police. When choosing what kind of tint you can tint the front windows, you should take a closer look at the athermal material. When using athermal film, the interior remains highly visible, the amount of transmitted light is about 90%, but it effectively reflects ultraviolet and infrared radiation, which leads to heating.
If an athermal film is glued to the windshield, it is possible to improve the characteristics of the glazing and experience a number of advantages:
- gluing the film is allowed by GOST, since the permissible percentage of 70% is observed, usually higher. 80-90%;
- the salon does not experience strong heating from the sun, as a result. the salon retains a new look for a long time;
Athermal tinting Lada Vesta
- at night, the driver is protected from glare by oncoming cars;
- tinting improves the aesthetic perception of the car due to the transfusion effect;
- toning helps to reduce the visibility of the interior from the outside.
An alternative option is to stick one of the varieties of athermal material under the popular name “chameleon”. The material changes the level of dimming depending on the lighting, on a clear day the film protects more, and on a cloudy day it retains less light. The selection rules are the same. the main condition is to maintain a permeability of at least 70%.
What is the penalty to pay?
Today, a fine is provided for toning outside the norm, which is specified in paragraph 2 of Art. 12.1 of the Administrative Code of 01/01/2012. 500 rubles. With the next violation, the amount increases to 1000 rubles. Previously, they could have removed numbers, but since April 1, 2014, the removal of signs has not been made. Even after removing the film on the spot, a fine will still be presented.
How to properly tint the front windows?
Most new cars from the factory are produced with glass, which has a light transmission of about 80%. There is no need to apply a film on modern cars. If you stick a film with a permeability of 90% on top of it, the indicators will already be on the permissible edge.
Any tint can be applied to the rear windows. To comply with the standards, it is recommended to hand the gluing and selection of the film into the hands of professionals. At the tinting point, at the same time, they are certified in accordance with the permeability standards.
Nuances you need to know
If you look at the issue objectively, even SP 80-90 will break the law. New glasses are already darkened by 20%, and in a few years the light transmission will decrease by another 5%. When only 10% of light is absorbed by toning, 0.750.9 = 67.5% is obtained. Over time, the film loses its transparency somewhat, so after 2 years the indicator will drop to 65%.
Allowed car glass tinting: what is allowed and what is not?
With the change in legislation, the state actually legalized the front glass tint by means of films. In GOST, the designation of glass with a permissible polymer layer is used, but the film is not mentioned. Tinting must comply with 3 documents: traffic rules, technical regulations of the vehicle and GOST 32565. Now we answer with confidence whether it is possible to tint the windshield. yes, both by spraying and film.
Especially a lot of ambiguities have appeared in relation to mirror tinting. Directly in the GOST it is not indicated what kind of tinting can be glued to the front windows, but the TC regulation p 4.5 prohibits the installation of auto glass with a mirror finish. In addition, the ban from the standard continues to operate since 1993, which establishes a list of rules for admitting a vehicle to operation. Tinting side windows or rear glazing with a mirror film leads to the risk of an accident, because the light is reflected from the coating and dazzles.
It is precisely established what percentage of tint is allowed on the front windows. 70% of light transmission and more. In relation to the sides, the percentage is regulated by the same. 70%. The permissible factor for the rear windows is not indicated, as well as for the rear doors, but when creating a darkening less than 60%, the film reflects the light somewhat, creating the effect of a mirror. It is preferable to use a shade of 60% or higher in combination with curtains.
