How to disassemble the chuck of a DeWALT rotary hammer

How to repair a chainsaw with your own hands. how to fix it fast?

Everyone who has ever worked with a rotary tool knows how difficult its operating conditions are. That’s why the repair of the torch with your own hands is such a popular request on the Internet. And today we will tell you absolutely everything that concerns the repair of this tool.

There is no doubt that the owners of such expensive equipment want their devices to be of high quality, to perform 100% of their work. First of all, you will be saved from serious breakdowns by the correct use of the tool, which we will talk about a little later. And, of course, the timely repair of the device. In this case, any small malfunction should already be a cause for concern and preparation for repair.

  • Unstable work of the peorator in the working mode;
  • The appearance of strange sounds when you turn on the peorator;
  • The smell of burning;
  • The torch does not chisel, although there are no visible reasons for this.

As soon as something like this happened to your technique, it is time for repair. Like any such work, it requires attentiveness, understanding the cause of failure and knowledge of how to cope with it. And your very first step in the repair is the disassembly of the tool into its components. For many people even this step is difficult, so you need to know everything to the nuances. how, what and why!

How to disassemble a cartridge? Learning to do simple things, avoiding mistakes

What you need to know how to disassemble the horn cartridge? In the event that a rather expensive tool breaks down, would it not be easier just to take it to a repair shop? However to go there, as practice shows, not every user (whether, at times, due to lack of time, or because of the lack of enough additional resources, because repairs can sometimes be quite expensive and result in a price for which you can buy half of a new tool).

Therefore, some people prefer to disassemble it on their own, with their own hands. After all, it is clear that if a tool suddenly stops working for a number of reasons, the most predictable solution is to take it apart and fix the problem.

How to disassemble a torch cartridge so that then in the newly assembled form the tool will continue its operation after fixing the found failure? But it is not necessary to do this only in cases where the trouble has already occurred. Also to know how the thing, such as peorator, is dismantled, and to carry out preventive maintenance and lubrication. So, at any rate, the knowledge can be useful to almost everyone who is in the economy is a similar device.

First you should determine its design, and they, by the way, are different. Cam. different drills are inserted and replaced with a special wrench. In the collet. it is enough only to turn the part, and wrenches are not needed for this purpose. In the quick-clamp (one or two sleeves) there is a different design. In general, drills can be attached to different devices in different ways, and this factor should also be taken into account.

Many beginners often ask: why do we need so many types?

The thing is that the tools themselves come with high or low power. And if the device is powerful enough, it is necessary to think seriously about the reliability of drill bit and nozzle mounts, otherwise tragedy will not be avoided!

In some cases, the part is quite easy to remove, and in some cases, you need to labor. Examine the fasteners of the chuck itself. The part is usually held in the working position by a spindle or screwed rods (rarely we observe a tighter fixation, depending on the manufacturer, and then new forces are required).

But in its most common variant, the cartridge can be removed with three simple tools: a screwdriver, a wrench and a small hammer. Tap the head of the screw with a hammer to loosen it slightly. Then twist the screw, using a screwdriver. Clamp the chuck in a vise or key and twist the spindle.

Let’s not look at the rarer and older models. Today, many modern torches are quite universal and indispensable in some repair and construction works. Accordingly, there are many nozzles and adapters for such a tool according to the task at hand. And the base of the construction is still the chuck.

By the way, the professionals advise to keep the replacement chuck on hand for reserve: at sufficiently heavy loads the only one can break, and you will not have with what to change it. Experts note that for different labor it is necessary to use different in action chucks: with a key (for oversized drills), quick-change chuck (for quick change of adapters and drills during the performance of work).

disassemble, chuck, rotary, hammer

Very important: if earlier the drill was fixed on movable cams, today the progress has long gone forward. in the SDS chuck, for example, the drill is held by guide wedges and special stop balls (usually 2 or 3). This type of fastening looks both fast and, most importantly, very reliable.

Changing nozzles is also much easier. It is enough just to insert the selected one into the socket, push it until it clicks.

  • Push aside the plastic part and remove the rubber seal.
  • Using a screwdriver, pry up the ring for fixing. Next. a similar washer. Act as carefully as possible without sudden movements that can cause these small parts to break off and bounce.
  • Behind the washer is another ring. It is necessary to turn and also remove, undermining, for example, with a screwdriver.
  • Behind the plastic will be the SDS clamp, which consists of a spring, a ball and a washer. Remove the ball, then pry the washer and pull out the spring.

After the planned work of repair, restoration or prevention, the chuck needs to be properly assembled. It will be quite easy to do, following the previous instructions done in reverse order: starting from the last step and ending with the first.

As already mentioned, when selecting a replacement cartridge, remember that not every cartridge fits on every base. This circumstance should be taken into account, choosing a part of the same company as everything else, or at least observing the basic parameters of the chuck.

When installing a new one, you need to perform several steps: screw the part on the drill to the stop, insert the fixing screw into the socket, tighten it with a screwdriver to the stop. After that. check how the parts are fixed, and you can start repairing with this necessary tool.

The results: All in all, as you see, there is nothing difficult if you know how to disassemble or replace the cartridge of the torch. Any person who knows how to handle this tool well enough can cope with the task at hand. It should not be forgotten and that if you change drills or attachments often, it is better to buy a quick-change chuck, and if you use a large-sized drill. the key. And it would be desirable, ideally, to have different cartridges suitable for your torch (especially if you use the tool often). It is for this purpose that learning how to remove and disassemble the cartridges is an urgent task.

Is it necessary to repair an electric screwdriver if there is a stuck bit

Regardless of what model of electric screwdriver (Makita, Bosch or Metabo), at the initial stage you can try to remove the bit yourself. It is necessary to pull out the element very carefully so as not to damage other parts.

How to change connecting rod d25871k 7 kg electric hammers

Before removing the bit from an electric screwdriver, it is advisable to carefully inspect the tool. If necessary, it should be cleaned, and then try to remove the stuck bit. As a rule, with a problem like this, the electric screwdriver remains in working order, so it does not need a complete repair.

Always check the tool before you start work

The chuck of an electric screwdriver does not unscrew ? It can help you.

To give the tool to a workshop will have to be, if you can not remove the element yourself, and at further attempts, damage may occur.

In the quick-action chucks, removing and reinserting the bits is quite easy. In such devices, the sleeve works by manual rotation. To avoid excessive clamping of the cams, they are often fitted with locking elements.

Specialists recommend ensuring that the tool works before refitting the selected bit. Always disconnect the product from the power supply.

Attention! The bit jamming in the chuck of an electric screwdriver most often occurs through no fault of its own. To prevent this from happening, it is recommended to service the tool in time, to monitor its condition

It is necessarily important to check that there is no debris stuck in the chuck, clean it in time. When working, make sure that the product does not overheat and give it time to cool down

If necessary, additional diagnostics must be carried out to locate any possible problems in good time.

In complex situations, it is not recommended to engage in self-disassembly, otherwise you can spoil the tool completely. It is better to contact a professional to get the job done.

Frequent screwdriver malfunctions

Since all modern screwdrivers have a standard device diagram, their faults are also usually typical. Major defects in this tool include:

  • battery failure;
  • Worn brushes;
  • button breakage;
  • chuck run-out;
  • Lack of response to attempts to turn on or off;
  • intermittent operation.

You can fix all of these problems yourself if you have some experience with measuring and soldering instruments. In some cases, you will have to replace the entire assembly, since not all parts are sold separately. If a gearbox or motor repair is too complicated for you, these elements can be completely replaced or taken to a workshop.

How to Disassemble the Chuck of an Electric Screwdriver

Despite the fact that there are many models of screwdrivers on the market today, the general approach to the removal of such an element as a chuck, they have one. Now we will briefly describe it.

In order to unscrew the chuck, you have to remove the screw that secures it to the shaft. It is located inside the chuck, the rotation of the screw should be clockwise. After you have unscrewed the screw, jerk the cartridge in the opposite direction.

Warning! When trying to unscrew it by hand, you must put the drill on second speed if it is a two-speed. When buying the tool it is advisable to lubricate the screw with machine oil

In some cases when this element does not want to give way then you have to put the tool in first speed, clasp it in your hands and reverse to the left. The chuck should come off the thread easily.

Beater Mechanism Layout, Malfunctions, and Repair

The percussion mechanisms of peorators differ in their design, depending on which family of units they belong to. Therefore these mechanisms will be repaired according to different principles.

Barrel perforators

Vertical-mounted machines usually have an impact unit based on a crank-type crank mechanism (CCM). Below is a diagram of this type of percussion mechanism.

The following photo shows a cross-section of the machine, where you can see the location of the CCG.

The hammer mechanism on a vertical-motor unit may have the following problems. The connecting rod mechanism has a separate bearing that is mounted on the cam of the eccentric wheel, but sometimes it can be located at the base of the connecting rod. Some models of peorators may have a plain bearing in this location (instead of a rolling bearing), which requires constant lubrication. If it is not there, or it is already old, then this assembly is worn out. You will have to replace the entire connecting rod and eccentric barrel when repairing.

Another common problem is a broken firing pin. This malfunction can be calculated if you notice that your peorator no longer has a bump. To get to the firing pin it is necessary to completely disassemble the barrel of the device. This is done as follows.

  • Disconnect the barrel from the gun body and remove the cartridge (see Pic. description above). Tap the barrel against the table to get the piston out. Take a rubber mallet and tap the barrel out of the case.
  • Remove the retaining ring holding the bearing.
  • Remove the bearing itself and gently tap the balls on the table.
  • After removing the 3 balls, you can pull out the raster sleeve.
  • As in the previous case, extract the balls on the bushing, but do not confuse them with those removed earlier (these balls are of smaller diameter). After removing the balls, you need to insert a screwdriver into the sleeve and push out the side.

In this case, the firing pin is intact. But if it is broken, replace it with a new one

You should also pay attention to the sealing rubbers and the gaskets in the barrel housing. If they are worn out, they must be replaced

Pistol-type firing pin

The design of the striking mechanism on a pistol-type apparatus is slightly different from that of a barrel-type apparatus for the same purpose.

Its main difference is that the piston is not driven by a connecting rod, but by a rocking (“drunken”) bearing. Therefore, the most frequent breakdown of this unit is the wear of the “drunken” bearing, which needs to be replaced.

The following photo shows a destroyed “drunken” bearing, which is the reason why the peorator stopped chiseling.

Remove the rocker bearing with a flat screwdriver, which should be used to hook the bracket, and remove it. After that, the bearing can be easily separated from the gearbox housing.

When replacing the broken bearing, you should wash the gearbox well, because it is in its housing that splinters of the broken part may remain.

After cleaning and installing the new bearing, you should apply a thick coat of grease to this unit.

Also, a broken firing pin may be the cause of the unit not striking. To get it out, you must remove the retaining ring, which is visible in the hole.

Take a small screwdriver, use it to grip the ring and push it to the right (in the direction of the pinion).

disassemble, chuck, rotary, hammer

Do the same on the other side of the part. Next, insert a screwdriver into the hole in the part and press out the internal parts of the mechanism that were removed.

After this action it is easy to take out the circlip, and the housing that houses the broken striker.

If you disassemble this housing you will see the “culprit” for the malfunction that is preventing the Geareducer from kicking.

What is a peorator and how does it work?

This tool is used for percussive work, when removing old hard but fragile materials: masonry, concrete, tiles. Before you disassemble the Makita, Sturm, Elitech, Enkor, Vihr, Dexter, Wert, AEG, etc.д., you need to know what it consists of.

Different models differ in power and functions, but all have the same basic systems and components.

  • electric motor with armature and stator;
  • gearbox;
  • chuck;
  • hammer mechanism;
  • activation button;
  • safety clutch.

In the process of improvement there are additional features that make it easier to use:

  • operating mode switch;
  • a system that suppresses vibrations;
  • the mechanism that secures the tool in a comfortable position for the operator;
  • depth stop for tooling penetration into the work surface;
  • device cleaning from dust.

Accessories are special chisels and percussion drills, which are installed in a chuck.

The motor works by converting the rotation of the motor into a percussive-rotational motion of the bit. The motor drives the rest of the tool mechanism. A safety clutch ensures user safety at work. The piston is driven by a drunken bearing. It generates a hammering force. Peorator cannot last forever and parts and assemblies break.

Replacing motor brushes

The main sign that it is time to change the brushes is the formation of increased arcing in the area of the collector of the electric motor, rapid heating of the brush holders, as well as the smell of burning. When the brushes are not worn out, the spark is only visible underneath them. Otherwise, a spark can be seen all around the manifold.

Another sign that the stator is burned out is that there are sparks under only one electrode. if you have a tester you can use it to check the stator and rotor: measure the resistance on the rotor and stator one by one. If it is the same in both windings, then the stator is fine. If you notice obvious signs of problems with the rotor or stator, you will have to take the machine to a service center for repair. You can change brushes by yourself.

To get to where the brushes are installed, you will need to disassemble the housing where the motor is installed, or simply remove the back cover. After opening the cover you will see the brushes fixed in special holders. The photo below shows what these parts look like.

There are three kinds of brushes, which are installed on motors.

  • Graphite brushes are long-lasting, but because they are very hard, their lapping against the collector is not ideal, which has a negative effect on the latter.
  • Carbon brushes are easy to rub against the manifold and provide good contact, but wear out quickly.
  • Carbon-graphite is ideal because it is a mixture of 2 components that complement each other.

Pay attention to the condition of the spring in the new brushes and the attachment of the contact. If the spring is lost while the motor is running, the motor will be severely damaged

Also, if the spring is weak, it will not make good contact.

It is imperative that before you change the brushes, you must clean the rotor and stator well from the remains of graphite or carbon dust. You can clean these parts with commercial or medical alcohol.

Next, you should fix the electrodes in the holders and rub them against the collector. To do this, place a piece of fine grit emery paper on the collector and with rotating movements in different directions perform lapping of the electrode. Continue lapping until the contact area of the electrode is slightly rounded. This ensures a better contact with the collector plates and therefore better contact with the electrode.

Types of cartridges for the peorator

Different types of cartridges can be used in the perforators. Each has its own differences.

Toothed ring gear

It is also called a key cartridge. This type of tool enables installation of a nozzle that has a cylindrical shank. Clamping is carried out with a special slotted wrench. They use cams that securely clamp the tool. The advantage of the toothed-ring chuck is the reliable fixation of devices with a cylindrical and hexagonal tail part. But it takes a lot of time to clamp or unclamp a drill in these chucks.

Quick-clamp

Quick-action chucks are used mainly in screwdriver construction. Available as single and double socket. They are fixed in the same way as the key, but without using a wrench, everything is done manually. Double-sleeved chucks provide a more secure hold. But as the clamping is performed manually. Clamping is inferior to wrench clamping in terms of reliability.

The disadvantage of the quick-clamping fastener is that it unreliably fixes drills with large diameters during long use. The result is that the tool turns during drilling, which negatively affects the quality and speed of the work.

This type is considered the best variant for gears, even if it appeared not so long ago. SDS chucks are often called “quick-release chucks”. They are suitable for drilling in concrete, wood, and metal. But their clamping tooling comes in different types, so you need to know their features.

Equipped with several types of clamping devices :

  • Plus. Tail part for the chuck of the tool designed for home use.
  • Top and Quick. Very seldom used. It is not easy to buy tips for installation in these types of chucks. Few companies manufacture them. That’s why you should look at the version of the retainer when buying.
  • Max. They are used only in specialised models of torque motors.

Peorator chuck securely holds drill bits. The clamping is performed by means of 2 guiding wedges and 2 locking balls. The advantages of SDS chucks are that it is easy and safe to work with the clamping device. It combines torque and impact force perfectly. 90% of all manufactured rotary tools are equipped with these easy-to-use chucks.

The reliable locking of the shank is a guarantee for efficient, high-quality work.

How to insert the chuck into the torch

To insert the chuck into the chisel, the drill bit must be screwed all the way in, inserted into the socket and tightened using a screwdriver.

Always keep a spare chuck on hand, according to the experts. Do not economize on this element. When buying, it is advisable to have your own torch. then it is easier to select the right part, because not all torch and cartridge models fit together.
