Features of repairing electrical models

Electric models of trimmers, powered by the network, have several main blocks in their composition:

  • Mechanical part that provides torque transmission to the trimmer head;
  • Electrical engine;
  • Power cable.

Each trimmer unit has specific problems. Mechanically, they depend on the presence of a line used as a cutting element. Reasons for termination of work:

  • Entanglement of the line;
  • Sticking of nylon thread due to overheating of the trimmer;
  • Problems with the drive shaft and coil.

You can identify problems with the electrical part of the electric scythe using special tools:

  • Indicator screwdriver;
  • Multimeter;
  • A set of keys and screwdrivers.

A blowtorch is needed to fix problems.

Electrical damage:

  • Power cable malfunction;
  • Problems with the socket and plug;
  • Failure of the control knob;
  • Combustion of the starter winding, engine replacement is required;
  • Broken contacts can be corrected by yourself using a blowtorch.

Functional check

Before starting to diagnose magneto, you need to make sure that the problem is actually in this node. To do this, you need to check the entire chain and make sure that there are no other reasons for the breakage of the trimmer.

  1. First, you should carefully inspect the coil for cracks and other external defects on the case. Next, you need to examine all the elements and nodes that conduct current, and make sure that they are clean.
  2. The next step is to inspect the high-voltage wires. They must be in good working order and securely attached to the contacts, free from rust and with intact insulation.
  3. The next step is to check the plug cap. As a result of careless actions, the user often tears it off the high-voltage wire, and then improvises and creates a homemade mount. You need to understand that any poor-quality connection in this place significantly reduces the power of the electric arc of the candle.
  4. Then you should make sure that the candle itself is in good working order. Filling the mower with poor quality gasoline will significantly reduce the life of this part. In addition, it may be flooded or have a large carbon deposit that interferes with operation. Sometimes the candle even sticks and doesn’t twist off.
  5. Next, you need to inspect the circuit breaker. On trimmers and chainsaws made in China, it often breaks.

If it stalls when you press the gas

There are several reasons why the trimmer will stall when you press the gas:

  1. The first reason is the misalignment of the carburetor.
  2. Clogged fuel valve.
  3. Check valve clogged.
  4. Slack or slack in the carburetor cable or slack in the fuel pick-up hose.

To avoid the described problems with the lawn mower, you need to carefully monitor the condition of the device and its blocks. Timely cleaning, washing of the unit and spare parts can increase its life.

Ignition Coil Trimmer Malfunction and Repair

Lawn mowers are a popular seasonal tool designed to remove unwanted vegetation from your home. Like any other technique, these devices break down periodically. Repairing the trimmer ignition coil is one of the most common problems with gasoline braids. The ignition system itself is designed in the same way for two- and four-stroke internal combustion engines, so the elimination of breakdowns is performed almost the same for tools from different manufacturers, be it Lux, Huter, Husqvarna or another brand. Methods for restoring the performance of the ignition coil or replacing it with a new one in the material below.

Method 1

The first way to check the ignition coil involves the use of special equipment (stand). At home, it is not available, you can find it only in service centers.

Replacing the magneto

To remove the magneto, remove the plastic cover from the trimmer. This process is different on different mower models. It is usually necessary to remove the bolts, but on some gas trimmers it may be necessary to depress the latches. After that, access to the coil opens. To remove the part, you need to unscrew the retaining fasteners and disconnect the wires.

When installing a new part, you need to correctly set the distance between the flywheel and the magneto. To do this, turn the flywheel upwards with the magnets, install the coil and secure it, but do not fully tighten the screws so that there is a small distance between the parts. Next, between the coil and the flywheel, you need to put a pocket calendar, business card or A4 paper folded in four, you can also use a plastic strip cut from a bottle. These tweaks will ensure adequate clearance between the flywheel and the magneto. A more competent solution would be to use a special template, but purchasing it for the sake of once is impractical. Next, you need to tighten the fasteners, remove the object between the parts, and, holding the magneto with your hands so that it does not spin, tighten the fixing screws tightly. After that, turn the flywheel and make sure that it does not catch the coil anywhere. Now you need to connect the wires and insert the candle into the cap, and then check the operation of the device.

Gearbox self-lubrication algorithm

No preliminary disassembly is required to lubricate the transmission. A special hole for these purposes is already embedded in the device (it is shown in the photo below). In addition to gears, when lubricating, attention should be paid to the following elements of the mechanism:

  • Bearing unit;
  • Flywheel and starter coil pawl.

Lubricant injection hole

Fill in oil or add solid lubricant through a grease nipple closed with a screw. In this case, actions are performed in the following sequence:

  • Clean the gear case from dirt and adhered grass, especially carefully the area around the plug so that debris does not get inside the mechanism;
  • Using the appropriate tool (often it comes with a trimmer), unscrew the plug;
  • Into the open technological hole, the selected lubricant is injected from a tube, or using a syringe, as shown in the photo below;
  • Screw the plug into place.

Gear lubrication

If for any reason the gearbox needs to be disassembled, then the old lubricant must be completely removed from the entire surface of the gears and the housing, the shaft, and only then use a new one. It is convenient to lubricate the disassembled mechanism with solid compounds.

The entire gear lubrication process is demonstrated in the video:

Lubrication of the transfer unit is required at least once a year, but it is recommended to do this every 20 hours of intensive use of the lawn mower. If the first signs of malfunctioning with the mechanism appear, then the lubricant must be applied as soon as possible.

Trimmer Gear Lubrication

Gears must be lubricated regularly in accordance with the recommendations set out in the operating instructions for the model used. This should also be done if:

  • New gears were installed;
  • Atypical sounds emanate from the gearbox during trimmer operation;
  • Knives rotate hard.

With continuous use of the trimmer, the transmission is subjected to stress from grass adhering to the blades, dirt, or due to changes in torque. The lubricant must be selected of high quality in order to extend the life of the gearbox.

Used types of grease

When choosing a lubricant, you must consider the following factors:

  • The degree of adhesion of the composition to the metal of the assembly;
  • Product brand;
  • Consumption of lubricant by the transmission mechanism.

Well-known manufacturers, for example, Stihl, Husqvarna and others, apart from trimmers, also produce lubricants for them. These products not only reduce wear, but also protect the gear metal from corrosion. Therefore, for lawn mowers from these brands it is better to use their own lubricant products.

Different models have different grease consumption. This is largely due to the intensity of use of the lawn mowers and the heating of the transmission. The lubricant is considered to be sufficient if the temperature of the gear unit during operation does not exceed 40C.

By consistency, trimmer lubricants can be:

  • Liquid;
  • Semi-liquid;
  • Solid;
  • Plastic.

In terms of composition, the following types of lubricants are in demand:

  • Graphite, significantly reducing friction, as a result of which the rotation of the gears improves;
  • Lithium, which is also an excellent anti-corrosion composition, saturated with additives that increase the wear resistance of the metal without harmful substances;
  • Universal components containing highly refined mineral oils and improving performance characteristics.

Examples of suitable lubricants are: Champion EP-0, Gear Grease OREGON, Oleo-Mas, Azmol 158, Litol. 24. You should also pay attention to the advice of manufacturers on this issue and use the materials they offer. You can buy them at specialized retail outlets.
