How To Level A Husqvarna Lawn Mower Deck (Quick Guide). Husqvarna mower deck adjustment

Riding Lawn Mowers

Just got a new YTH22V46. Mower runs great however the deck height is way too low for fescue and I can only cut on level 6 (highest). Is it recommended to use the leveling adjustments to raise the entire deck and can I get one inch rise overall and have some flexibility based on time of the season? Please advise. No scalping allowed.

I have a YTH22V42 lawn tractor. The mower deck sits way too low. When setting the cutting height on six the actual height of the cut is only about 2 1/2 inches. I have a lot of scalpng at the six setting onslightly uneven terraine and the sun raises cane with the health of the grass. When I try to set the cut level to one, the deck sits hard on the ground and the blades cut into the dirt. I have spoken with the local dealer and he has no idea how the deck height can be elevated. ANyone have the same problem.

OK so how do we get a factory response? I can go back to Lowes “the dealer” but suspect the sales staff are not experts regarding resolution of the deck height issue. This seems to be a common complaint.

Can someone from Husqvarna please respond.

I have the exact same issue; mower blades are 2 and a half inches high on deck setting 6. I can’t even get to level 2 because the deck hits the ground. Please help!

Checking in on this as I have the same problem. The deck height can be adjusted but only on one side in order to level it. There does not seem to be a way to raise the entire deck. Does anyone have a solution?

There is no way to raise the deck, and you wont get a response from Husqvarna. I have the same mower. I hate to say it but Ive wasted my money.

tires are to small, check the tire measurement

anyone find a good answer to Eldons questions? I too have this issue.

I took mine to my dealer. they agree. tires are 2″ smaller they they say. the only way to raise the deck is put the right size tires on.

but the factory is giving my dealer the 2 step. BS.

imm going to call factory again. then im going to get really pissed!!

I also just bought a Husqvarna YTH22V46 and found out the deck is too low. Unfortunately I found this out after the blade caught a rock and snapped the mandrel. After reading on this site I notice that this is a common problem but there are no answers being provided, therefore my options are:

  • Return the mower and get my money back (still under warranty) and buy a John Deer from Home Depot.
  • Replace the 15” front tires with 16” tires (42 each at Lowes).
  • Get another adjustable link and place it on the other side as well so the entire deck can be raised more (will be hard since the provided repair part manual doesn’t actually reference the link)

It appears that 3 inches is as high as the deck goes (the more expensive mowers go higher by at least 1/2 inch)

OK I don’t get it; the front tire are rated at 15×6.00x6NHS. The 15 is the diameter, but the tire actually is 13 inches tall. time to go back to Lowes and ask WTF

Any updates on this? I just received this lawn tractor yesterday and after uneven scalping the yard, I spent time in the evening leveling the deck and making sure the anti-scalp wheels are correctly adjusted. I suspect that I won’t be scalping anymore but when on level 6 of the mower deck height the blade is 3.5″ from the concrete I was measuring from. Lawn is softer and I expect that even at the highest deck setting I’ll be mowing at 3 inches. The deck lays on the ground at the lowest setting for me too.

Just an observation, the tire height clearly measures 13″ but stamped on the tire sidewall it reads “Carlisle 15×6.00-6NHS” and with a Maximum PSI of 14 pounds. The tires arrived to me around 25psi and I deflated them to the tire specs.

Is there anyone from the factory or reps monitoring this site. Numerous coments but no “official” responses to the answer army. After one year I’m still cutting at #6 level only (5 on a dry week) but would like to hear from the factory. What say you H

Has anyone resolved this issue yet? I am also having the same problem with my deck being too low. I’m thinking of putting additional air in the tires to see if I can gain an extra 1/2″.

how many people have to give the factory answer before they get off there a.

I like Husq. but there customer service needs serious overhaul. is this a Chinese company?

No, they will not answer, don’t know why. It appears they have more questions asked than actually answered.

My deck, brand new, was waaaaaayyyy out of balance. Put your mower on four bricks (so you can see what you are doing with a tape measure) and balance the deck to the blade height – not the deck: obviously adjust the height number with the height of the brick. It resolved my issues.

I tried putting on 16” wheels, that worked but I wasn’t comfortable with the front link assembly as it used almost all of the length of the assembly, so I put the 15s back on.

The two point link adjusters is a weak design. The more expensive models have a three point adjustment which would allow balance as well as raise/lower. Adding another side assembly (I think #532195264) should fit on this model but I did have to go there.

There is a lot of discussions as to why 15” mower tires aren’t actually 15 inches (but 16s are) but I didn’t chase that either since mine now functions

Like Randy said. my deck and blade were way off too. The instructions tell you to adjust the air pressure, once you do that- park the mower on a level surface and get yourself a short ruler and do an accurate measurement of the blade heights (left/right front/back) just like the instructions say. Once I did that and got the blades level, then adjusted the anti-scalping wheels since they too were off. After all that. finally, it worked. Good luck.

How To Level A Husqvarna Lawn Mower Deck (Quick Guide)

Any homeowner who owns a lawn will know how important a leveled lawn mower deck is. When you buy your Husqvarna lawn mower, you need to know how to level a Husqvarna lawn mower deck so that the blades don’t go too close to the ground.

You see, if the deck is too low, it will scrape away the lawn and ruin it. That’s why leveling a Husqvarna mower deck is very important in keeping your lawn’s health.

Fortunately, we know exactly how to do that and we are going to teach that to you in this article.

Reasons Why Your Lawn Mower Deck In Unleveled

If you find your Husqvarna deck too low, there could be a number of reasons for that.

Before we go to the guide on how to level a Husqvarna riding mower deck, it’s better to first understand the reasons as to why it is unleveled in the first place.

  • Low deck making the blades too low
  • Tilted deck that can cause the blades to have an angle
  • Overextended blades from the deck
  • Wet and uneven lawns

These are some of the main causes for uneven lawn mower decks. However, they can all be fixed if you can do a simple Husqvarna lawn mower height adjustment– which we are going to teach you right below.

How To Level A Husqvarna Lawn Mower Deck Guide

The first thing you need to do is get the right materials and tools for the job. You’ll need adjustable wrenches, measuring tape, a bicycle tire pump, and an air pressure gauge.

Once you have all of those, you can follow these steps:

Prepare Your Lawn Mower

Before doing anything, you need to prep up your lawn mower. First, make sure that it is placed on a flat surface. After that, press on the brake lever and push the clutch upward. This will stop the blades. After that, pull the attachment lever on the left and place it on the highest configuration.

Turn On The Lawn Mower

After that, ignite the lawn mower and leave it in ignition. After that, open the engine hood and take out the spark plug boot. This will allow the engine to cool down.

Check The Pressure

Take out the valve stem cover of each tire and bring out your air pressure gauge. For low pressure, add more air to the tires. If the air pressure is too much, let go of some of the air inside the tire.

The key here is to make sure that the pressure matches the listen figure in the tire itself. It should never have more air than the listed figure.

Adjust The Blades

For this step, you may need to have a pair of leather gloves so that you won’t cut yourself. In this step, you need to turn the blades on the both sides of the deck so that they are symmetrical.

Make sure that you measure the distance of the left blade and the right blade to the ground in order to know if it is too near. After that, take out your wrench and adjust the nuts on the driver’s seat to lift the deck.

Turn the nut left to lower it and turn it right to raise it.

Measure The Blade To The Ground

The adjusting of the blades may take awhile, but you need to make sure that the front measurement should be ⅛ inches to up to ½ inches lower than the back measurement. If you haven’t gotten that measurement, go back to step 4 until you do.

Put Everything Back In Place

Now that you’ve leveled your lawn mower deck, the last thing to do is put everything back in place and test your lawn mower. If everything is good, then you’re good to go. If not, repeat the steps again.

How to Level a Mower Deck (4 Easy Steps)

Leveling your lawn mower deck is a crucial part of lawn mower servicing. An out-of-level deck will result in an uneven cut with what look like “steps” in your lawn. Modern lawn tractors and zero-turn mowers allow you to adjust the deck relatively easily so that you can achieve a perfectly even cut lawn. Follow my step-by-step guide below to level your riding mower deck.

Signs that You Need to Level Your Mower Deck

Here are common signs you can look out for to identify if your lawn mower deck is not level. You’ll be able to notice potential issues with the deck by simply inspecting the cut your lawn mower is making.

You’ll need a level surface to work on to level your mower deck accurately. The adjustments are fractions of an inch, so use the most level work area you can find. Then you’ll want to collect the following tools:

How to Level a Mower Deck (Step by Step)

The principles and preparations are the same when leveling zero-turn decks or lawn tractor decks. To achieve accurate leveling, you’ll need to follow these steps.

Preparing the Lawn Mower

To start leveling, you’ll need to have a safe and level lawn mower. Begin by positioning your lawn mower on your level surface. Next, apply the brake and raise the cutting deck to full height. Next, remove the spark plug, so the lawn mower cannot start.

With the lawn mower on level ground, you’ll next want to equal the tire pressure. Take your pressure gauge and measure the front tires. Inflate the front tires so they are of equal pressure, matching the tire inflation recommendations stated on the tire. Once done, you can repeat this for the rear tires. Additionally, your tire sizes must match. If you have odd tires, you’ll never be able to level your mower deck.

Inspecting the Blades

The next step in the leveling process is checking that the blades are straight. First, position the blade so that the tips point toward the sides of the mower instead of toward the front and back.

Then measure the outer tip from the ground up to the blade. Next, rotate the blade 180 degrees and measure the opposite blade tip. Both measurement results should match. If they don’t match, your blade is bent and needs replacement. Repeat this process for each blade on your deck.

Adjusting the Lawn Mower Deck Side-to-Side

We will adjust the deck in two stages. The first step is the side-to-side adjustment. Position the blades so the tips point towards the sides of the mower. Next, measure the outer tips from the ground up to the blade for both the left and right blades using your measuring device and write down the results.

Your end goal is to have both sides of the deck measuring within ⅛ inch of each other. You’ll only need to adjust one side of the deck to achieve this. Using your wrench, adjust the lift link adjustment nut on one side of the lawn mower. Usually, clockwise is up, and anti-clockwise is down. You’ll raise or lower the deck by making minor adjustments to the adjustment nut.

Alternate between adjustments and measuring the blade tip height. Once you have achieved the desired height, confirm by remeasuring both sides of the deck.

Adjusting the Lawn Mower Deck Front-to-Back

The second step is leveling the mower deck front-to-back. The front of the deck should be ⅛ – ½ inch lower than the back.

Start by positioning one of the blades, so the tips point towards the front and back of the mower. Then measure the height from the ground up to the blade of the tip facing towards the front. Next, measure the height from the ground up to the blade of the tip facing towards the back. Note the results of both measurements.

Grab your wrench and locate the front lift link adjustment nut. Your adjustment will alter the height of the front of the deck. Your goal is to get the front to be ⅛ – ½ inch lower than the back.

Adjust the nut clockwise if you need to raise the front of the deck. If you need to lower it, make anti-clockwise adjustments. Once done, remeasure the blade tips pointing front-to-back and confirm the mower deck is level within the desired range.

What if You Don’t Need to Make an Adjustment?

When you measure the blade tips, you may find that you don’t need to make any adjustments. You probably fixed the leveling problem by simply inflating the tires to equal pressure and ensuring the blade is straight. This shows you that proper tire pressure and good-quality blades are essential to achieving a perfectly cut lawn.

Leveling a mower deck

Throughout the mowing season, your riding lawn mower deck may be altered so that one side is higher than the other. Whether it’s from getting on and off on a predominant side, bumping something in the yard or natural parts wear and tear, you’ll need to readjust by leveling your mower deck. These instructions will explain how to level the mower deck on your Cub Cadet. Depending on your model, the instructions listed below may slightly vary. Always be sure to check your operator’s manual for detailed instructions.

Be sure your riding lawn mower is on a flat level surface and engage the parking brake. Turn off the engine and do not begin working on the machine until it is cool. Remove the ignition key and the spark plug ignition wire to avoid any accidental starts while leveling the mower deck.

To level the deck from the front to rear, place the deck lift lever in the middle position.

Wearing gloves, rotate the blade closest to the discharge chute parallel to the lawn mower.

Step 4. Measure the height of the lawn mower blades

Measure the height of the front blade tip to the ground. Next, measure the height of the rear blade tip to the ground. Refer to your operator’s manual for proper height differences between front and rear.

Step 5. Adjust the hex nuts to level the mower deck from front to back

Loosen the hex lock nut on the deck hanger rod. Raise the front of the deck by tightening the inner hex. Lower the front of the deck by loosening the inner hex nut.

Once the deck is at the proper level, tighten the lock nut to secure.

Step 7. Leveling your mower deck from side to side

Wearing gloves for protection, level the deck from side to side by rotating the blades perpendicular to the lawn mower.

Step 8. Measure the height of the blade tips again

Measure the height of the blade tips on each side of the deck from the ground.

Step 9. Adjust the deck by loosening the hex bolt

Raise or lower the deck by loosening the hex bolt on the left hangar bracket.

Step 10. Tighten hex bolt to secure deck adjustment

When both blade tips have the same measurement from the ground, tighten the hex bolt.

With your level lawn mower deck, you’re all set to mow. Simple reconnect the spark plug’s ignition wire, insert the key and you’re ready to go!
