If we talk about the cons of a plasterboard ceiling, then there are much fewer of them than the pros:

Material selection and design calculation
The scope of application of drywall is very diverse – this is the installation of arches in doorways, the arrangement of window and door slopes, the construction of interior partitions, even a drywall fireplace can be made.
To begin with, it should be noted that gluing plasterboard sheets to the ceiling is justified only if the height of the existing ceiling is so low that it does not allow lowering the new plasterboard ceiling by at least 4-5 cm.This installation option is extremely rare. The fact is that gluing sheets to the ceiling with the help of special mixtures is quite laborious, so it is easier to make a structure from profiles. Well, if not at all, then it is better to apply plaster.
The main mistake when starting work is marking from an existing ceiling. In no case should this be done, since the differences in height at the corners of the room can reach rather large values. For example, in one of the rooms I had a drop of almost 20 cm.Therefore, before making a ceiling out of drywall with your own hands, you need to first find the lowest point of the ceiling using a water, laser or ordinary building level.
Next, we proceed to the calculation of the future plasterboard ceiling, which is always done before starting the installation of the frame:
- We measure the height of the room in the corners and where it is smallest, we retreat from the ceiling by the thickness of the profile and put a mark.
- Then, using a level, we beat off the line on the wall along the perimeter of the room. If at the end you went to the original mark – everything was done correctly, if not – we redo.
- Then you need to make sure that the ceiling does not sag anywhere. To do this, pull the cord diagonally and measure the distance from it to the ceiling. It should not be less than the profile width. If it is less, we lower the marks by the required amount. It is necessary to ensure that the fishing line beaten off around the perimeter is below the lowest point of the existing ceiling by the width of the profile.
