Backfilling with rubble

Then, when you cleaned the well, you need to fill its bottom with a layer of rubble. Fine crushed stone will be required, but gravel can also be used. It is necessary to pour a layer of approximately 35 cm, after which a pipe with a filter must be lowered into the well. It is best to choose plastic pipes.

Then, when the pipe with the filter has taken the desired position, you can begin to fasten the remaining pipes, for which they are lowered one by one. You can knock them out with a sledgehammer so that they fit more tightly together..

The well made can be filled with pipes gradually. But for this you need to make the well wider in diameter, otherwise the drill will simply turn the pipes for you. In this case, the pipe is pushed down after each lowering of the drill. When the drill reaches the water layer, the pipe must be buried so that it does not block access to water.

Before you lower the filter, the well must be pumped out with a pump. To choose the right pump for drilling a well, the following parameters must be taken into account:

  • the distance of the well from the dwelling;
  • casing size;
  • well depth and debit.

The remaining distance between the well and the pipe is filled with a cement-sand mortar, it protects the well from melt water.

Well construction

As you can see, it is not so difficult to drill a well for water with your own hands. But all of the above is not the end of the work. In order for the well to be used annually, it is necessary to equip the caisson, it stabilizes the temperature difference in the well.

It is also quite possible to make a caisson with your own hands. The caisson is a special one where all the equipment for the well operation will be placed. You can make it in any shape and any size – the most important thing is that a person can go down into it. The easiest way to make a concrete caisson. If you have close to underground waters, then you will need to waterproof it. The caisson is constructed quite simply. First, the formwork is installed, then the reinforced frame is lowered into it, and the entire structure is filled with concrete.

To prevent debris from entering the well, it is necessary to make a head. To do this, you will need a 12 mm thick steel sheet. It is necessary to cut a flange from it, the inner size of which should be slightly larger than the outer diameter of the pipe. After that, a plug is cut out along the flange, it is necessary to weld the inlet fitting to it. It will hold the plumbing and cable.

How to make a do-it-yourself drill for drilling wells

Very often, in private houses or in summer cottages, there is no central water supply. This is not a problem if you equip a well or a well at home, but drilling a well is quite expensive, and often summer residents will try to make a well with their own hands. This process is quite laborious, but quite possible, and we will describe the intricacies of its implementation below..

How to drill a well yourself?

Before you start drilling, it is necessary, first of all, to determine at what depth the aquifer is located. You can check with your neighbors. You can try to drill no more than 25 meters manually if the soil is soft. The drill must have a diameter of at least 20 cm so that it is possible to pass the casing into the well..

Before you start drilling a well, you need to find the lowest section on your territory, but keep in mind that it must be as far as possible from the septic tank and other places that can pollute the water.

In the area where drilling is supposed, first you need to dig a hole. Its size is usually two by two meters. It is enough to make the depth in a meter. So that the walls of the pit do not crumble, they can be fixed with boards.

Then you can begin to set up the tripod. To do this, you will need three beams, the cross-section of which must be at least 20 cm.For these purposes, you can also choose steel pipes 5 meters long.

Pipes or timber must be laid out on the ground in a triangle. After that, you need to make holes in them and put a pipe there. It must be secured so that the supports of the structure do not slide out. After that, it is necessary to fix the winch in the tripod. If you decide to install a mechanical winch, then a cylindrical block must be fixed on top of the structure, through it you can throw a cable.

Diy drill for wells

The drill for wells is made of metal. The drill itself is a construction of a metal rod with a sharpened end. Knives are attached to the sides of the drill. For knife cavities, you can use halves of a metal disk about 15 cm thick. Then the knives must be welded to the rod with an inclination of about 22 degrees. The halves of the disc are placed opposite each other. The tilt between the parallel knives should be 44 degrees..

You can make a spoon drill for wells. It has the shape of a cylinder with a longitudinal section on the side. The length of this drill is about 800 mm. This drill can be made from sheet steel, which must be rolled up to the required size and fixed by welding.

To make it easier to overcome various layers of soil, the following drills are used:

  • drill spoons are used for sandy soil;
  • drill bit is used for loosening hard rocks;
  • a spiral drill (also called a coil) is used for clay soils;
  • the bailer makes it possible to raise the ground to the surface.

Standard drill auger layout

As a rule, a well is drilled with your own hands using a screw: this is the so-called drill for a drill. To start drilling, you will definitely need an assistant. The auger is lowered into the ground and rotated clockwise. Drilling is much more convenient to do together. When the drill is completely in the ground, it must be removed with a winch. The drill is cleaned from the ground and again lowered into the ground. This lasts until you hit the aquifer..

Then, when you finish drilling, it will be necessary to clean the well of various small debris. What you need a bailer for. Using this tool, you can free the well from foreign objects and align its walls.

Installing a cleaning filter

This cleaning element is necessary to prevent large particles of debris from entering the water from the bottom of the well. It is quite possible to make a filter for a well with your own hands. The filter itself consists of several elements:

  • Sump under the filter.
  • The filter itself.
  • Small space above it.

Due to the free space above the filter, it can be fixed to the casing. The filter is made in the form of a mesh partition, it will prevent debris and stones from passing into the pipe. The settler is required so that the soil and silt are there and do not penetrate the pipe. The most convenient way is to make a perforated filter. For this, many holes are made in the pipe. They must be located in a place where the pipe will come into contact with water. The step between the holes is usually no more than 3 cm. It is advisable to make the holes at an inclination of 50 degrees. Holes in the pipe must be cleaned and debris removed. The lower part of the filter is closed with a wooden stopper. It is advisable to put a mesh with a fine mesh on the holes..

There are other options for making a filter with your own hands, for example, a gravel filter for a well. To do this, you will need to sprinkle some gravel from the wellhead. The gravel must be well cleaned. The thickness of this layer should not be less than 60 mm..

Adapters ice screw-screwdriver with handle

Adapter HIGASHI has a diameter of 18 mm, suitable for all MORA models (except for MORA NOVA SYSTEM, where the diameter is 22 mm), NERO and many other ice augers with a handle diameter of 18 mm.

The design of the adapter has a special stop to protect it from accidental falling out and a hexagonal working surface for clamping it in the screwdriver chuck, which prevents the auger from spinning in it. An adapter with a handle is more convenient than a conventional one, because one hand holds the screwdriver and the other. handle adapter.

Screwdriver

Choosing a screwdriver for an automated ice screw is a responsible step.

Perhaps the main requirement for a screwdriver or drill. high power. In addition, it is necessary to pay attention to the maximum operating temperature range of the tool. Usually use, according to the recommendations of the adapter manufacturer, a power tool with the following parameters: rechargeable battery. voltage 18 V, capacity 3 Ah; maximum torque, tightening (soft / hard) – 40/80 Nm.

It is possible to use a screwdriver or drill with other technical characteristics, but the power should not be less than 2.5 Ah. Voltage allowed from 18 to 36 V.

Batteries for screwdrivers are different. Anglers have natural questions: “What should be the battery for a screwdriver?” and “Which one is better to choose?”.

They are lithium-ion and nickel-cadmium. Lithium-ion batteries, as practice shows, are more sensitive to low temperatures, so their use is limited to low temperatures. Nickel-cadmium are more resistant to harsh winter conditions, but they have a shorter service life.

Be sure to have a spare battery with you, which is better to keep in your bosom when fishing.

A natural question may arise: “How many holes will the battery charge last?” Average 30 to 50 holes. It all depends on the thickness of the ice, its structure and the technical characteristics of the drill (screwdriver).

Screwdriver ice screw.

It is difficult to imagine a winter fisherman without a quality ice screw. The best minds of the fishing community have long been trying to facilitate the drilling of holes. Today the market offers many all kinds of automated ice augers, but not everyone can afford them. Using a cordless drill or screwdriver. a real way out of the situation, especially since many already have this power tool, and there is no need to spend money on its purchase.

Ice screw

Almost all Mora models can be adapted for use with a drill or screwdriver. For the MORA NOVA SYSTEM model, only the auger with replaceable cutting head can be purchased separately..

Auger part of the MORA NOVA SYSTEM ice screw

You may also need an extension cord. But it depends on the thickness of the ice and the height of the angler. You will also need an extension cord if you have a folding ice auger (with one axial lock), for example, the previously produced MORA EXPERT.

The advantage of using an adapter (adapter) with a drill or screwdriver:

ease of assembly, you do not need to be a particularly advanced master to assemble this simple structure

improving an ice screw using an adapter is cheaper than buying a ready-made automated

What are the gearboxes

There are both V-belt and worm gearboxes, which, having significant design differences, are designed to perform the same role. For an ice screw, a worm gear is best suited. True, their efficiency is somewhat less, and they heat up much faster, but they can be put directly on the shaft of the original mechanism..

Thus, you can assemble an ice screw from the calm with your own hands. During operation, it is important to observe safety rules. You should not put too much pressure on the device during the drilling process, it is sometimes difficult to cope with it, especially if the knives hit an obstacle.

Craftsmen even manage to put the drive on a ring ice drill with their own hands, a diagram of which is posted on the Internet. Proponents of such mechanisms believe that less effort is expended when drilling. They are silent – and this is an important advantage when catching shy fish. In addition, ice structure is clearly visible on the resulting ice cylinders..

Battery specifications

In winter, all the main fishing time takes place at subzero temperatures, and this fundamentally determines the survivability of the electrical device. They are divided into three types:

  • Ni-Cd. nickel-cadmium have proven themselves well at low temperatures, however, they differ in increased weight;
  • Li-Ion. lithium-ion batteries have low weight and recharge time, but only in frost they become unsuitable;
  • Ni-Mh. nickel-metal hydride are rarely found, they are similar in characteristics to the first.

The most widespread are lithium-ion ones for good resistance to subzero temperatures. They work perfectly in the range from 40 degrees to 50. The pluses include such a property as storage in a discharged state. Making an ice screw with your own hands at home, you should pay close attention to it..

Unfortunately, they have a memory effect, that is, if you use them correctly and do recharging, everything will be fine, but up to a certain point. Even if the battery is not used, it will still lose its energy capacity by 20-25 percent within a couple of years..

Nickel-metal hydride batteries have a lower mass, increased capacity, a small memory effect, however, even with a slight minus temperature in the reservoir, the survivability of such batteries quickly ends. By the way, it is recommended to pay attention to the capacity of the batteries, which should be in the range of 2.5-3.0 A / hour.

Is it possible to make an ice screw from the calm

A gasoline powered drill is a rather complex and strong unit. It is a screw part connected to the motor drive. As a rule, such devices are equipped with two-stroke engines, however, modifications are possible that differ in the speed of revolutions.

One- or two-speed drills nimbly drill holes not only in the ice, but also in the ground. However, along with professional motor-drills, anglers create their own models that perfectly cope with their tasks. First you need to calculate the compatibility of the engine and the gear system..

The gearbox is needed to reduce the speed of rotation. After preparing the calculations, you can assemble the structure, which we wrote about in the article “How to make an ice screw from improvised means“. First, a frame of two pipes is welded, in which the gearbox will be placed. The gas engine is mounted both tightly and in a removable version, which is more preferable.

Ice auger, yamobur, a gearbox for an ice auger – we do everything with our own hands

A gearbox for an ice screw with your own hands is a necessary thing in an angler’s arsenal, if automation is being undertaken with a conventional auger mechanism at hand. By the way, when the first ice screws were born, they had a variety of drilling devices. However, as a result of natural selection, only augers withstood the competition..

Such mechanisms do an excellent job with two tasks – they make holes in the ice well and bring the ice crumbs out. The cutting element consists of a pair of blades, the edges of which point in opposite directions. They are installed at a certain angle.

We put a screwdriver on an ice screw with our own hands at home

With the advent of powerful models of screwdrivers on the domestic market, fishermen quickly found their bearings and adapted this device for an ice screw. As a result of this ingenious solution, an excellent automated drill was born, with the help of which it became possible to drill ice without effort..

Manufacturers also began to keep pace with the times, releasing adapters for joining these two different mechanisms. The Swedish Mora, along with ice screws, which have a docking device, also produces adapters directly. Domestic drills are not designed for this, so craftsmen have to approach this issue radically.

Manual automation has several advantages:

  • it will not be difficult to modernize the ice screw;
  • alteration will be much cheaper than buying a motor-drill;
  • to make design changes, you need a minimum of conventional tools.

By the way, it is much more difficult to adapt Russian ice augers, since they rotate in one direction with the screwdriver chuck unwinding, which is why it will have to be tightened all the time. There is only one way out in this case – the installation of a reduction gear, however, not everyone is capable of making it.

make, drill, screwdriver, hands

Required adapter adapter

For a homemade adapter, a thick-walled tube or even a metal rod is suitable, which will fit into the shank of the auger part in diameter. The second end, for a screwdriver chuck, is made from a regular bit. Both parts are welded together in compliance with the alignment. For fastening in the shank of the auger, a through hole is drilled through which the fastening bolt passes.

How to create an ice screw from a trimmer with your own hands

Another device that can be adapted for an automatic drill is a trimmer. It is a fairly easy-to-use device. Its complete set includes an extended stick, an engine, a specialized head for the scaffold, to which the torque is applied..

When creating an ice screw from a trimmer with your own hands, you need to prepare the following elements:

  • trimmer motor;
  • auger part of the ice screw;
  • a set of tools required for rework.

The main problem to be solved. how to fix the shank of the ice drill on the head for the scaffold. As soon as it is possible to find a solution to dock the two mechanisms, the angler will receive an excellent device for drilling holes. By the way, another option is to turn the hole auger from an ice screw with your own hands. Structurally, there are no fundamental differences between these devices..

Selection of a screwdriver

When choosing any tool, first of all, they are guided by the amount of work that this tool will perform. This will allow you to more accurately navigate the selection of the required device. First of all, the choice is made according to two parameters – what power the screwdriver has and its torque, which we wrote about in the article “We select a screwdriver for an ice screw“.

The minimum power of the device should be at least 18 V, however, when drilling deep holes, you will need a more powerful device, for example, 36 V. True, its cost will increase significantly. The second required indicator is torque, the value of which should be in the range of 50-70 Nm. This number determines how fast the auger will rotate..

What is an electric ice screw?

An electric drill is a device for drilling hard surfaces: ice and soil. A manual electric drill consists of an electric motor and an auger with knives attached to it. On the sides of the engine there are handles that you hold onto during the drilling process.

As the proverb says: “You can’t catch a fish from a pond without difficulty.” For anglers who practice ice fishing, it is often the main job of drilling multiple holes. When the ice is too thick, and health is far from excellent, an electric fishing drill comes to the rescue..

How the tool works

The electric drill motor starts to rotate thanks to the energy coming from the battery. The batteries can be changed while fishing, and in some cases recharged from the car’s battery.

Advantages and disadvantages

Recently, electric drills have become increasingly popular with anglers who prefer winter fishing. This is due to the following advantages:

  • quite silent operation, even quieter than that of a hand drill, not to mention motor-drills;
  • relatively small mass;
  • the ability to drill thick ice without “pumping” the hole;
  • the possibility of long-term operation at negative air temperatures;
  • the ability to recharge from an ATV battery or a car;
  • the presence of a cable that allows you to quickly connect the instrument to a power outlet;
  • ease of drilling, which does not require significant physical effort from the angler;
  • simplicity of bringing the tool into working position;
  • high performance;
  • the ability to make an electric drill with your own hands;
  • minimal damage to the environment.

However, electric drills also have disadvantages, namely:

  • high price;
  • the dependence of the duration of the drill on the air temperature;
  • larger dimensions than folded hand drills;
  • weight greater than hand drills.

Electric and hand drill – what and when to choose?

With a small thickness of ice, when the angler has to move a lot and drill a large number of holes, a hand drill is preferable, especially if the angler does not resort to using equipment when moving on ice, but carries all his belongings in a trough or box.

For stationary fishing, when there is no need to drill many holes, it is also quite possible to do with a hand drill..

Which screwdriver to choose for an ice screw? Recommendations for the selection of a screwdriver

When drilling holes, you cannot do without a screwdriver. Not every screwdriver will work with an ice screw. There are certain minimum technical requirements. A screwdriver with the following technical parameters will help to make the drilling process easy:

3 parts for electric drill

  • Ice screw – in principle, suitable for any production;
  • adapter (adapter);
  • battery-powered screwdriver.

What to do if there is no screwdriver

You can make a drill yourself not only with a screwdriver. Any rotating tool is suitable for this purpose. It can be a drill or chainsaw. Difficulties in using these tools lie in the connection (the equipment is powered by the network and is too bulky). The idea is difficult to implement, but real

Laziness is the engine of progress! Trying to make our life easier, we invent new devices and gadgets that significantly speed up and facilitate many processes in work and rest, both in the household and professional areas. In our case, we will rather talk about a hobby, which also did not stand aside..

The main problem for winter fishing enthusiasts is drilling holes, especially if fishing is planned in regions with a harsh climate, where very often the ice thickness reaches significant indicators. In this case, an adapter for an ice screw for a screwdriver can come to the rescue, which can significantly facilitate the drilling process..

DIY adapter for drill to screwdriver

Homemade adapter for an ice screw auger for a screwdriver: photo of making and video of drilling ice.

This homemade product greatly simplifies the process of drilling holes on winter fishing, and you can make an ice drill from a screwdriver in just a couple of hours.

So, the very process of making the adapter. Dismantled the handle of the manual ice screw.

Measured the attachment point of the future adapter.

Then I welded a U-shaped adapter from a metal corner.

I cut off the hex shank from the drill and welded the shank to the P – transition and to the ice drill, the structure is collapsible, drilled a hole and screwed in a bolt.

Trying on a screwdriver, used a MAKITA BDF 458 RFE 18V 13 mm 3.0Ah Li-ion 91 – 58 Nm cordless drill / driver.

High-quality AKB “Makity” work well in cold weather and drill as many holes as I need.

We offer you to watch a video of the work of a similar ice screw from a screwdriver.

Another option for making an ice screw.

During winter fishing, fishermen drill dozens of holes, and sometimes there are just a lot of them. As a result, fishing is comparable to exhausting labor in a field or vegetable garden. Despite the difficulties, the pleasure of fishing is well worth the extra effort.

The high cost of equipment and other inconveniences made the fishermen think about improving the ice screw and making an electric ice screw with their own hands from a screwdriver. Attaching it to a screwdriver saved invaluable time and effort, which is very important in the winter season. How to choose a screwdriver .

How to choose an ice screw for a screwdriver?

An ice auger is suitable for any production, and since we make an electric auger, I see no reason to overpay for branded drills, it is enough to take our production of the Tonar type.

Technical parameters of the screwdriver

  • screwdriver model – rechargeable;
  • power – as high as possible;
  • power supply parameters – 18-36 V;
  • battery capacity 2.5-3A / h;
  • torque – 40 / 80Nm.

For the purpose of improving the ice screw, Mohr’s model is suitable. The model of the domestic manufacturer Tornado or Tonar will help to make the cost of the drill budget-friendly..

We make an adapter for an ice screw for a screwdriver with a handle with our own hands

The adapter is required to connect the screwdriver to the drill. You can save on the purchase by building the adapter yourself.

The shape of the adapter is presented in the form of a hexagon. The screwdriver is attached by clamping it in the chuck. To make the connection strong, the clamp is held with a special key. The second side of the hex is connected to the ice ax. The auger with adapter is bolted through a pre-drilled hole.

For the convenience of using the tool, fishermen recommend taking care of attaching the handle to the device. Its presence will make drilling holes comfortable and prevent the tool from falling into the water. When using a self-made ice auger, it should be understood that larger holes will require more equipment. The recommended hole size is 10-13cm.

Installation of gypsum board on the frame

The penultimate stage in creating a drywall ceiling with your own hands is attaching drywall sheets to the frame.

  • GKL are cut with a hacksaw, best of all on sheets with an area of 120×250 or 120×125 cm.It is important that the ends of the sheets lie exactly on the frame.
  • The resulting edge must be processed with a plane so that there are no kinks. All protrusions are trimmed with a knife.
  • Next, holes are cut for the lamps. It is important to measure everything exactly and make all cuts and cuts for sure. To do this, use a drill with different nozzles or a hacksaw (By the way, if pipes go through the drywall, then make holes slightly larger than the diameter of the pipe).
  • The last stage is finishing the ceiling with plasterboard. There are several ways to attach the gypsum board to the frame:
  • Longitudinal. In this case, the sheets are located parallel to the bearing profiles..
  • Transverse. In this case, the sheets are located perpendicular to the profiles..
  • Self-tapping screws are recommended to be placed 15 mm from the edge of the gypsum board. The length of the screws depends on the thickness of the gypsum board. The distance between the screws should be no more than 15 cm.
  • The screws are placed on the front side of the drywall so that their heads cannot pierce the cardboard and do not stick out over the front side. The screws should enter the frame 10-15 mm from the sheet edge. Check that the cardboard is intact in the places where the screws will be attached, as this affects the reliability of the structure.
  • Do not place the gypsum board sheets at close range to the walls, and it is better to cover the gaps with ceiling corners so that the entire ceiling structure does not deform.
  • At the end, the joints are putty, which is done 2-3 days after the work described above. Before this procedure, inspect all joints for defects, wipe off dust, clean them. Using a good putty, you can only process the joints without touching the rest of the ceiling. You can watch an additional video about plasterboard ceiling plasterboard with your own hands at the bottom of the article.
  • After this stage, it remains only to plaster the structure.

    Sources of light

    Now let’s talk about light sources, as this is an important point when creating a plasterboard ceiling..

    Before starting the installation of the gypsum board, you need to make the wiring for lighting. You can also choose an LED strip as a source of lighting, but basically they still stop at ceiling lamps. Most often, the LED strip is used only as a decorative element and in no case as the main or additional lighting..

    There is nothing difficult in organizing lighting. We divide them into two or more groups depending on the planned number of lamps. This is necessary in order to be able to turn on not all lamps at the same time. We recommend dividing the lighting into two groups so that the lamps are switched on one after another, or in rows.

    Next, wires are laid, the ends are brought out to the switch. After installing the gypsum plasterboard in the places where the lamps will be located, it is necessary to make holes. This is done using a drill attachment of the required diameter or simply cut a hole in the drywall.

    The photo clearly shows the wires that lead to the installation sites of the lamps, as well as the location of the profile relative to the drywall sheet.

    Step-by-step instructions for a plasterboard ceiling

    Next, we will talk about the sequence in which you need to start creating such a ceiling, what steps you need to go through and analyze other nuances. In general, the whole process consists of several stages:

    • Calculations;
    • Frame installation;
    • Lighting;
    • Installation of gypsum board;
    • Plastering and finishing works;

    Required tools

    In order to make the installation of a two-level plasterboard ceiling with your own hands (or a single-level one), you will need a number of tools.

    make, drill, screwdriver, hands

    Below we have tried to collect for you a list of the necessary tools for both initial and final work:

    • Level (laser or water);
    • Roulette;
    • A drill with a perforator with various attachments (for mixing the solution, drilling (drill), cutting out the necessary holes for lighting);
    • Screwdriver;
    • Simple mathematical triangle (to measure right angles);
    • Painting cord or pencil;
    • Construction hacksaw;
    • Fishing line;
    • Plane;
    • Ceiling point lamp;
    • Sandpaper;
    • Putty knife;
    • Putty;
    • Construction knife;
    • Capacity for putty;
    • Reinforcing tape.

    So, the tools are at hand, now you can start!

    Types of drywall

    Of course, one cannot miss such a moment as the types of this material, since there are several of them..

    • Gypsum plasterboard (gypsum plasterboard). Lined on both sides with soft cardboard glued to plaster. Usually the length of the sheet is 2000, 2500, 2600, 2750, 3000 mm, and the width is 1200 mm. Standard thicknesses from 9.5 to 13 mm. depending on the purpose and type of premises.
    • Fire-resistant gypsum plasterboard (GKLO). Similar to the previous one, but with increased indicators of resistance to fire.
    • Waterproof gypsum plasterboard (GKLV). Used where there is a lot of moisture, such as a bathroom.
    • Moisture-resistant gypsum plasterboard with increased fire resistance (GKLVO). Combination of fire and moisture resistance.
    • Gypsum fiber sheets (GVL). Gypsum is reinforced with special fluffed cellulose waste paper, as a result of which the material has increased hardness and resistance to fire.
    • Gypsum fiber moisture resistant sheets (GVLV). Similar to the previous type, but increased protection against moisture.
    make, drill, screwdriver, hands

    If you are wondering how to make a plasterboard ceiling with your own hands and do not know what type of material to take, then GKL is the most common option for rooms, and GKLV is well suited for a bathroom.

    Pros and cons of plasterboard ceilings

    Before you start making a drywall ceiling with your own hands, let’s talk about the advantages and disadvantages of this material. You may find it too unjustified to start implementing this venture for any of the following reasons:

    • Environmental friendliness. This material is absolutely environmentally friendly, does not emit toxins, and is safe for allergy sufferers. Often used in nurseries, bedrooms and many other areas.
    • Appearance. Thanks to the smooth surface, without seams and cracks, it looks great in any interior, creating a unique and inimitable ceiling design.
    • Compatibility. Drywall is perfect for both wallpapering and painting, it accepts all materials well.
    • Thermal insulation. Also perfectly absorbs and retains heat in the room, which will not go unnoticed in the cold season.
    • Plastic. Drywall sheets can be bent, they bend perfectly and do not break with the slightest effort. This allows you to create uneven and intricate surfaces on the ceiling.
    • Disguise. Like a suspended ceiling, plasterboard helps to hide all communications (wires, cables, pipes).

    That is, there are a lot of advantages, among which one of the main ones is complete safety..

    If we talk about the cons of a plasterboard ceiling, then there are much fewer of them than the pros:

    • Not able to hold weights, so you will not hang shelves and other heavy objects;
    • Poor sound insulation, this material transmits sound very well, which is “treated” by special pads in the form of cotton wool and other sound-absorbing materials.

    As you can see, the material has a lot of advantages and it is suitable for almost any situation, so if you seriously intend to make a plasterboard ceiling with your own hands, you will not lose anything, but on the contrary, you will get an excellent, beautiful ceiling, moreover, completely safe.

    Material selection and design calculation

    The scope of application of drywall is very diverse – this is the installation of arches in doorways, the arrangement of window and door slopes, the construction of interior partitions, even a drywall fireplace can be made.

    To begin with, it should be noted that gluing plasterboard sheets to the ceiling is justified only if the height of the existing ceiling is so low that it does not allow lowering the new plasterboard ceiling by at least 4-5 cm.This installation option is extremely rare. The fact is that gluing sheets to the ceiling with the help of special mixtures is quite laborious, so it is easier to make a structure from profiles. Well, if not at all, then it is better to apply plaster.

    The main mistake when starting work is marking from an existing ceiling. In no case should this be done, since the differences in height at the corners of the room can reach rather large values. For example, in one of the rooms I had a drop of almost 20 cm.Therefore, before making a ceiling out of drywall with your own hands, you need to first find the lowest point of the ceiling using a water, laser or ordinary building level.

    Next, we proceed to the calculation of the future plasterboard ceiling, which is always done before starting the installation of the frame:

    • We measure the height of the room in the corners and where it is smallest, we retreat from the ceiling by the thickness of the profile and put a mark.
    • Then, using a level, we beat off the line on the wall along the perimeter of the room. If at the end you went to the original mark – everything was done correctly, if not – we redo.
    • Then you need to make sure that the ceiling does not sag anywhere. To do this, pull the cord diagonally and measure the distance from it to the ceiling. It should not be less than the profile width. If it is less, we lower the marks by the required amount. It is necessary to ensure that the fishing line beaten off around the perimeter is below the lowest point of the existing ceiling by the width of the profile.

    After this is done, you can proceed to the next stage of creating a suspended ceiling from plasterboard – installation of a metal frame for plasterboard.
