How to Make a Fishing Line For a Trimmer

We will tell and teach

Gently mowing grass near a flower bed, trees or a fence is impossible without the use of a trimmer. How to choose the cutting line for him?

Material

The most widespread are nylon fishing lines made of polypropylene or polyamide.

These materials are highly resistant to wear, low and high temperatures, preserving their performance properties in case of prolonged operation.

Some manufacturers, in order to reduce the cost of production, in addition to nylon, introduce polyethylene into the fishing line. Due to the fact that the stiffness of such fishing line is much lower, it will wear out faster than nylon.

Special attention should be paid to a coaxial fishing line with a dense core and a fishing line interspersed with aluminum particles. Such products last much longer, but their cost is higher than that of homogeneous nylon fishing line.

Trying to save on constantly abraded fishing line, some "craftsmen" use steel cables and wire instead. Doing this is absolutely unacceptable!

A piece of wire separated at speed can pierce through not only rubber but also leather shoes, causing quite serious injuries.

Thickness

The main requirement for the thickness of the fishing line is that it must correspond to the power of the trimmer motor.

For electric tools with a power of 500 W, a fishing line with a thickness of not more than 1 mm should be used, for trimmers with an engine power of about 1 kW, you can buy a fishing line with a thickness of 2 mm.

In devices driven by gasoline engines, feel free to install a cutting line with a thickness of 2 to 4 mm.

Electric trimmers are especially sensitive to the correct choice of fishing line thickness: a fishing line with a thickness greater than recommended will provide significant resistance to rotation of the electric motor, which will cause it to overheat, and in case of repeated overheating, to damage the tool.

How to determine how thick the fishing line should be? Information about this is necessarily available in the technical specifications of the trimmer, and on many packaging with fishing line, indicate for devices what power it is recommended.

Fishing line

The cheapest, and therefore the most common, is a fishing line that has a circle shape in cross section.

It is universal, equally well suited for mowing both fresh and dry grass.

The only drawback of the round fishing line is its noise. Mounted on a trimmer with electric drive, it is able to drown out the sound of even the electric motor itself.

The fishing line does not cut the grass, but interrupts its stems, repeatedly striking them at high speed. For this reason, a fishing line with a cross section in the shape of a polygon (triangular, square, pentagonal and hexagonal star) will quickly cope even with thick coarse stems.

There is a fishing line with special dents and notches, indispensable for mowing grass and weeds in neglected overgrown areas. It should be used only on gas trimmers.

For a neat lawn mowing, it is better to use a thin line with sharp edges. Such a fishing line does not injure the grass, so the lawn will not dry after mowing, but will remain green and elegant. Yes, and cut grass with a fishing line scatters less than a round one.

In the case of restoring order on a plot overgrown with grass and weeds, give preference to a fishing line of large diameter or opt for a two-component twisted fishing line that cuts even small shrubs.

When mowing grass with a trimmer, avoid contact of a rotating fishing line with solid objects: trees, stones, concrete and metal structures. this will reduce the grinding of the fishing line and extend its service life.
