How to put line in a trimmer

Changing the line on the trimmer

This article will tell you how to change the line on the trimmer. For some people, this job may not be easy. But the step-by-step instructions that are available here will help you in this matter.

So the first thing to do is remove the gear cover. We combine the hole on the side of the curly lower washer and the axial recess, insert a screwdriver to fix the shaft from scrolling. Now unscrew the nozzle. The thread on the shaft, as a rule, has a reverse thread, take this into account when unscrewing.

Next, the disassembly of the nozzle follows. There, the lid is secured with latches through the holes. So you just have to push these clips into the holes and the cover will come off. If the attachment has an automatic semi-automatic line feeding mode, it means that there is a spring inside that can simply fly out when the lid is opened, be prepared for this. We lay out all the removed parts neatly in order.

line, trimmer

Now it’s time to take the fishing line and unwind 5 meters from it, cut off this piece. Pay attention to its thickness, do not wind a line of greater thickness on the unit than specified in the manual for the tool. Otherwise, there will be an increased load on the engine and higher fuel consumption during operation. We bend the measured line in half to find the middle and get a loop.

There are a couple of notches in the middle of the coil, sometimes these are not notches, but holes located opposite each other. With a loop we cling to one of the grooves and wind the fishing line counterclockwise. If the reel has 2 compartments, then we wind each end of the fishing line on them separately. Leave the last 15-20 cm free and clamp them while in the recesses of the coil.

We assemble the device again, pull the free ends of the fishing line into the holes on the body. We put on the cover, snapping the latches into their grooves. Now you can pull out these loose ends of the line.

It remains only to attach the working node in place, as in the first paragraph. Do not forget about reverse rotation on screwing.

Now you can learn how to wind the line around the trimmer. Actually, the whole process was detailed above. No time-consuming operations requiring the presence of specialists. Your brushcutter is ready for use again.

Winding the line correctly onto the trimmer spool

How to wind the line into the trimmer?

When refueling the line for the first time, this process may seem quite laborious, but with time and dexterity, the task is solved much faster.

In order to refuel the line, you must:

  • Take the coil, unscrew its cap. Some spools have a thread to the left, so the lid must be unscrewed in the required direction.
  • Measure five meters of line;
  • Fold this segment in half, that is, determine where the middle is;
  • Next, place this middle of the fishing line in a special hole on the reel;
  • Wind the line in the direction of the arrow;
  • If there are two places for winding, then the first part of the line should be wound on one half of the reel, and the second part on the other half;
  • Push both ends of the fishing line into the holes of the reel;
  • Screw on the lid.

Instructions with a step-by-step description of how to wind the trimmer coil and petrol cutters

In order not to be mistaken with the choice of a suitable fishing line for your tool, you should first disassemble the head and look at the side wall of the reel. This information is usually presented on a tip, which will not allow you to make mistakes with the use of the appropriate equipment.

If there is information on the reel about the diameter of the line you can fill in, then this information can be clarified in the instructions. Having decided on the thickness or diameter of the rig, it remains to figure out how to charge it. There are two ways to do this, but not all of them are applicable. We will consider both methods in detail, and depending on which models of brushcutters and trimmers you use, you decide on your own which option is suitable.

What line is used for the trimmer?

There are several types of fishing line:

  • The most durable is rounded;
  • For mowing soft vegetation. curly;
  • For mowing thin grass. serrated;
  • Special. fits certain trimmers.

The section of the cutting thread must match the vegetation to be cut.

If it is necessary to replace the fishing line, then it is necessary to select exactly the type that is recommended by the manufacturer of this particular trimmer model, that is, the thickness of the cutting thread should be suitable for the engine power and the size of the unit.

It is better to choose a specialized cutting thread. It is worth soaking the line for a while if you plan to replace it in the spool.

After soaking, it gains elasticity and becomes stronger.

The cutting thread can be made from different components. The most common among them is nylon.

This material is characterized by a high degree of wear resistance, the ability to withstand various temperatures and high loads.

Nylon line can be stored for a long time, it does not dry out and does not lose its strength.

Therefore, its service life can be quite long.

The reels or heads for the brushcutter have a different structure:

  • Single string. In the modification of such a trimmer, there is only one working line. This unit is used mainly for small jobs, such as trimming the grass.
  • Two-stringed. They can be both automatic and semi-automatic. The package here includes two strings. This trimmer is used for mowing and clearing areas.

Instructions for correctly winding the cutting thread onto the trimmer spool:

  • First of all, you need to disassemble the head. To do this, press the latch and turn the cover to the side. Next, the spool is removed.
  • Measure out the required amount of cutting thread and insert it into the slot.
  • Wind the line on both sides in the direction of the arrow.
  • Leave the ends 15 cm long uncoiled.
  • These ends fit into opposite slots.
  • Then the ends are fixed in the hole on the head.
  • After that, the spool is carefully inserted into the body, for this you need to slightly press on it.
  • If necessary, you can pull the remaining ends of the thread out. To do this, first pull one end of the thread, and then the other so that they can easily pass through the slots on the head.
  • Now you need to collect the grooves on the body and screw the cover.
  • Then press the spool and try to twist it all the way. If you hear a click, the spool has clicked into place.
  • Next, you need to pull the free ends of the thread to the end.

How does the head with a fishing line work on a brushcutter why you need to know the principle of operation

Depending on the manufacturer, the heads differ structurally not only externally, but also internally. Most drums have a pressure spring inside (semi-automatic and automatic). Above is an instruction on how to disassemble the trimmer head without a spring, i.e. on the head of the manual type. The principle of dismantling a semi-automatic head with a spring inside is almost identical to the instructions described above.

The principle of operation of the semi-automatic trimmer coil is as follows:

  • Inside the head there is a coil, which is fitted on the slots, which prevent its free movement.
  • A spring acts on the coil, which presses it against the splines in the cover structure
  • A fishing line is wound on the tip, the length of which depends on the tool itself. Typically this length is between 1 and 4 meters.
  • During the performance of work, if it is necessary to increase the length of the line, the protruding part of the drum is pressed, whereby it disengages from the splines. In this case, the line is unwound from the drum, increasing in length
  • After releasing the required amount of fishing line, release the pressure and continue cutting the grass

The advantage of a tool with a line is that this consumable does not require sharpening, compared to metal discs. In addition, if a stone or a tree comes across on the way, the line simply breaks off, without negatively affecting the gearbox and engine of the tool, as is the case with metal cutting discs.

Knowing the design and device of the types of mowing or trimmer heads, it is necessary to go on to consider the process of threading the line into the trimmer spool. After all, it is this very moment that causes difficulties for most owners of special tools.

Method 1. how to properly wind the line or put it on a reel and choose the required length

To implement this method, you will need to first prepare a fishing line of the required length (usually up to 4 meters). It all depends on the thickness of the equipment used, as well as the design of the coil. There is an easy way to find out the amount of line you need to refuel to charge the reel. To do this, wind the rig inside the coil until it is aligned with the side protrusions. In this case, the rigging should not go beyond these extreme protrusions.

The thicker the equipment used, the shorter its length will be needed and vice versa, the thinner, the longer the segment will be needed.

The instruction on how to properly tuck the equipment into the trimmer or brushcutter is as follows:

  • To begin with, a piece of fishing line that was prepared to be installed in a reel must be folded in half. In this case, one edge should protrude more than the second by 10-15 cm
  • After that, take the second end from the other side, and fold it in half. Move to it so that the measured protrusion of 15 cm is preserved
  • There is a slot in the inner baffle of the coil, into which the resulting loop should be inserted. The cut in the wall is shown in the photo below.
  • Next, we find out the direction of winding the line. If you wind the rig in the wrong direction, then it will not function correctly, and you will need to redo the work. To insert the line and wind it in the correct direction, inspect the surface of the spool. The direction of winding should be indicated on it (in 99% of cases, this direction is indicated). What the direction indicator on the coil looks like is shown in the photo below.
  • This arrow-shaped pointer can also have the designation, as in the example above “WIND LINE”, which means the direction of winding. If the pointer is missing on the reel, then you need to look at the head. There is a direction of its rotation on the head, and in order to properly wind the line, wind it on the drum in the opposite direction to the indication of the arrow indicator. So, if the arrow is on the tip, then you need to wind in the indicated direction, and if it is not there, then you should wind against the direction of the arrow on the surface of the head
  • Having decided on the direction of rotation, you should start winding. Each end should be guided in its own groove. If there is no separator, then the equipment must be laid in the appropriate distribution order.
  • When almost all the fishing line is wound on a reel, you will need to do the following. place a short part in the hole of the side wall of the pickup, the protrusion of which should be up to 10-15 cm, and then do the same procedure with the other end, placing it in the hole on the parallel side
  • We insert the coil into the head, first passing the ends of the fishing line into the holes of the drum
  • We put the drum in place and, by pulling the ends of the line, we disengage them from the temporary clamps in the wall of the reel. After that, you can put on the cover until the latch engages.
  • This completes the process of how to replace the fishing line on the trimmer, and if necessary, you can only trim the ends (if their length does not suit), and install the assembled drum on the tool

With how to put the drum in place, no difficulties arise. There is a second way, how to charge the mowing equipment in the brushcutter. What is the difference, and how is the second method of threading the line on the reel of the brushcutter carried out, we will find out in detail.

Watch the video on how to wind the line on the trimmer.

We carry out the winding of the fishing line

Slowly completed disassembly of the spool-spool without losing its spare parts allows you to proceed to the main task. winding fishing line into the reel. Technological features of the spool design and the number of working antennae determine the sequence of actions.

Spool Trimmer Heads

The main elements of the trigger is the mowing head, which is a cylindrical body with a bobbin inserted inside. The fishing line (cord) is tucked into it. The heads differ from each other in the way of feeding and threading the cord. There are three types of heads in total:

  • Automatic. The line is then fed as the user decreases the engine speed. Automatic cord feeding is very convenient when there is a lot of work to be done. The disadvantage of such a head is the high thread consumption.
  • Semi-automatic. The use of such a head does not require the user to perform any complex manipulations. The principle of its operation is designed in such a way that the line begins to automatically lengthen while the trimmer is operating at full speed. You just need to lightly bang the head of the machine on the ground (this will remove the blocking of the line), and the cord will be pulled out of the bobbin due to centrifugal force. Then the line is cut to the required length with a knife, which is located on the protective cover.
  • Manual. To lengthen the cord, it is necessary to stop the apparatus. After that, the line will need to be pulled out manually.

Types of trimmer spools

Preliminary preparation

First of all, to wind the fishing line, you need to remove the spool (bobbin, spool) from the trimmer. specific actions will depend on the complexity of the configuration and the type of the product itself:

  • small electric trimmers with a working position of the engine and spools at the bottom, as a rule, have side buttons on both sides of the bobbin. When pressed at the same time, the upper part of the spool together with the inner content for winding the line is detached, while the lower part remains on the trimmer. It is advisable to disassemble the bobbin on a flat, smooth place so that the spring included in the structure does not jump out and get lost;
  • electric and gasoline trimmers with a curved bar without the possibility of installing a knife, as a rule, have spools with a special wing: in such designs, hold the spool in a stationary position with one hand, and rotate the locking reel on the bar with the wing nut counterclockwise with the other. After disconnecting the nut, the entire bobbin is removed.
  • electric and gasoline trimmers with the ability to install a knife on a straight bar (for example, Calm trimmers) have a hole under the reel. To keep the rod stationary, a screwdriver or other suitable object is inserted into this hole and, with slow rotation, such a mutual arrangement is achieved when the screwdriver enters the hole and the bobbin is fixed. After that, the coil body is scrolled clockwise (with a left-hand thread) and removed from the trimmer.

For the second and third cases, the coils, depending on the design, are disassembled in different ways. In bobbins with a lamb, a lamb is unscrewed, in coils with latches, the latches are pressed and one part of the coil is released from the other. If the halves of the bobbin are connected by thread, then it is enough to turn them by hand in opposite directions until they are completely unscrewed.

The warranty production of the factory trimmer refueling will inevitably require line replacement. Having a very rough idea of how to thread the line into the trimmer reel on their own, beginners are reluctant to take up this business. However, with some skills, mastering this simple science does not present any difficulties, and the similar instruction presented below will facilitate this process as much as possible.

Coil with two working tendrils

In this type of spool, you should determine the number of grooves for winding the line, lying on the inside of the spool:

  • one groove. both antennae are wound together in one groove;
  • two grooves. each antenna is wound on an individual groove.

For both cases, a line with a length of 2-3 m is taken.In single-groove reels, the line is pulled into a through hole, its ends (antennae) are folded together and aligned, after which they are wound in the opposite direction of rotation of the bobbin on the rod side. inside the arrow usually indicates the correct direction of winding. If there are fixing grooves, the ends of the fishing line are threaded through them or held with the fingers of the free hand, they are threaded into the through hole of the outer half of the bobbin, the spool is closed and attached to the trimmer bar.

String Trimmer Head | How to install new trimmer line on a traditional bump head

The difference in line winding in double-groove spools is that initially a 2-5 m long line segment is folded in half (to determine the middle fold), and the fold loop is inserted into a special groove between the grooves. Both antennae of the fishing line are wound each along its own groove, fixing the antennae and assembling the coil is similar to the above option with one groove.

The first execution of this procedure, perhaps, will seem long and rather laborious, but with time and experience this task will be solved much faster and easier.

The video below will clearly show how to thread the line into the trimmer spool and wind it correctly. this operation is not difficult and with some patience it will certainly be crowned with success:

Coil with one working tendril

The simplest option and uncomplicated sequence of actions:

  • The dimensions of the reel and the length of the original factory winding determine the recommended length of the line for winding. 2. 5 m.
  • One end of the line is inserted into the fixing technological hole located inside the spool.
  • The fishing line is wound on the drum in the opposite direction of the spool rotation on the trimmer product. as a rule, on the inside of the reel, an arrow indicates in which direction the winding is carried out.
  • A small section of the line is left free to bring it out. it is fixed in a specialized groove on the inner side of the bobbin, designed to hold the winding when assembling the bobbin into working condition.
  • The left end of the line is passed through the hole in the outer part of the reel.
  • The bobbin halves are assembled and put on the trimmer bar.

Trimmer head modification

Trimmer mowing heads can be of various modifications: single-line for trimming the lawn (mows with one line of fishing line); two-string for mowing grass and land clearing with automatic line feed or manual string length adjustment.

Modern growers are increasingly offering gardeners universal trimmers with two-line automatic mowing heads.

Automatic line winding on a spool

There is a type of reel in which the automatic mechanism winds on its own. from the user it is enough only to correctly fill the line. The fishing line is passed through a hole on the inner part of the body, its antennae without winding are passed through the hole on the outer body, the reel is assembled, and when the winding button is rotated, the fishing line is wound on its own inside. In such a spool, it is impossible to make the winding wrong: the mechanism itself will determine the correct direction, since it can only turn in one direction.

A couple of tips

If the line was wound correctly by you, then when you press the bobbin button, the cutting element should be automatically pulled out. The line for your mowing device is one of the most important elements, without which the trimmer can lose all its functionality. You could say that the line (cutting element) is the heart of your mower. Therefore, when buying a fishing line, pay attention to its quality first. When purchasing a fishing line of this or that company, be sure to compare it with the quality of the old fishing line.

The process of winding the line on a reel

  • After all the preparatory steps, we need to correctly determine how exactly the fishing line will be washed on your device, by turning the lid or in the opposite direction.
  • We measure out about 7 mm of cutting material and insert it into the hole of the bobbin with one end. It is worth noting that the line is wound exactly on the model of style mowers from both sides. The direction of winding the line in such models is indicated on the bobbin itself.
  • The line is brought out to about 17 cm freely so that weeds can be cut off with the ends. We add that it is not worth winding the line on a reel of great length. Leave a distance of about 5 mm from the line to the edge of the bobbin.
  • The two ends of the line are inserted into the holes in the bobbin. Both of these ends must be securely attached to the device body.
  • The springs removed from the coil (if any) are inserted in the same way as they were removed, i.e. into the bobbin and the head body itself.
  • To determine if you have correctly inserted the line into the trimmer, you need the element itself (bobbin) to be easily inserted into the head body of your device. If necessary, pull the free ends of the line outward. To achieve this, you need to pull the line out of the groove with a sharp movement through the holes in the bobbin.

So, let’s say you figured out how quickly, and most importantly, to correctly wind the fishing line on the calm trimmer reel. All that remains for you is to insert everything correctly into the grooves and fix the main cover to the device. Then you can press on the bobbin itself and make counterclockwise movements until you feel the stop. If you do not feel the emphasis, then most likely you have not tucked the line correctly and you will have to start everything from scratch.

Preparing the trimmer spool for winding

Initially, as a rule, the coil is installed to the head of the device itself. The coil consists of two parts. a cover and a spring.

  • Whichever company you have a trimmer, the preparation steps are the same for all types. Disassemble the device, or rather, remove the coil from the trimmer head. To do this, press the latches located on the sides of the head body until it stops, and turn the head clockwise.
  • To open the mowing head without any problems, press the side latches, if you cannot do this with your hands, use a flat screwdriver to help. We take out the coil from the head.
  • In order to choose the right line for your equipment, on the inside of the reel, digital designations must be applied, which indicate the thickness and type of acceptable line. All designations are indicated, as a rule, in millimeters.
  • If you did not find any numbers, then the maximum allowable diameter of the fishing line can be determined by the through hole for inserting the fishing line. The line should run smoothly back and forth.

How to tuck the line into the trimmer reel calm

The trimmer is one of the most common tools that you can use to quickly and easily cut grass, small shrubs, lawn grass and other weeds. It’s not a secret for anyone that in order for the mowing of grass to be successful, it is necessary to use the tool correctly and correctly handle individual cutting elements.

In trimmers, it does not matter what fuel they operate on, special cutting attachments (knives, discs) are used, and some trimmers are supplied to the market in the heads of which such a cutting element as a fishing line is installed, and therefore many are wondering how to fill the line into the calm trimmer coil if there are no skills as such.

  • Cutting attachments in the form of knives can be sharpened, but the fishing line (also cutting elements), but tends to be consumed. Below we will talk about how to properly fill the trimmer coil with calm cutting element. fishing line.

What can be used instead of fishing line

  • If instead of a special cutting element, say a fishing line, you install a metal cable, then your trimmer can “turn” into a real dangerous weapon not only for you and your eyes, but for all the people around you nearby. This is due to the fact that while the trimmer is in operation, the steel cable will constantly work, which will lead to entanglement, and small pieces of it can scatter on all sides with great speed.
  • The same can happen if you use copper wire instead of a steel cable, but in this case the pieces of separation from the copper wire will be slightly larger and can cause you even more injury. And if God forbid, you accidentally catch such a cutting element on the leg, then after that a deep cut in soft tissues is 100% guaranteed, and in some cases, all this can lead to amputation of small limbs (fingers) of the legs and even hands. Therefore, our advice to you, do not use any other cutting elements, except for the fishing line, for your own safety and those around you.

Line selection

For the threading of the line into the trimmer head to be successful, it is important not to miscalculate with the choice of consumables. The thicker the cord you tuck in, the thicker and tougher grass it can cut. Often a universal line is used, the diameter of which is 2 mm. You can choose a diameter suitable for the mower in the following ways:

  • Refer to the instructions that came with the trimmer for line thickness information.
  • Pay attention to the bobbin itself. Sometimes information about the possible diameters of the fishing line is applied on it.
  • Another option is to try inserting the cord into the exit hole. If it easily goes through it, then the selected line diameter is suitable for use.

Trimmer reel
You can choose a cord thread according to the type of engine. If the line is too thick, then the resistance to rotation will increase. in this case, the engine will overheat and will soon fail. Helpful hints:

  • For an electrical device with a motor less than 500 V, a 1.3 mm thread is suitable. If one is not found, then you can use a 1.6 mm line. If the power is more than 1 kW, then select a cord with a diameter of 2 mm.
  • With a petrol trimmer, the shaft mower matters. For the folded version, a 2 mm cord is often used. If the shaft is straight, use a 2.4-2.5 or 3 mm thread. The thickest line is installed on powerful devices. from 1.3 kW.
Pay attention to the type of section of the cord thread. Some popular options:
  • The most common round lines. They mow fresh grasses well, but they cope worse with shrubs, dead wood.
  • Twisted (spiral) cord is not very strong, but is good for thin young grass.
  • Serrated thread with sharp edges is ideal for large weeds in a neglected area.
  • You can mow your lawn more evenly with rectangular, star or square trimmer lines, but they are not very strong.
  • Strongest. two-piece inner-core round cord.

Types of trimmer line
Please note that you cannot use wire, metal strings and cables, as well as ordinary fishing thread instead of fishing line. The device will be dangerous to both the user and others. So the cable or similar products will gradually begin to work, as a result, their ends will unravel, and small pieces will scatter at high speed.

How to wind the line onto the Patriot trimmer reel?

Almost every beginner when using a trimmer is faced with the problem of changing the line. While it is very easy to change your line, you need to learn how to do it correctly. Changing the fishing line with proper skill will take no more than five minutes. you just need to constantly practice it. This article will look at changing line using Patriot trimmers as an example.

Line adjustment

It also happens that sometimes it is not worth puzzling over how to tuck the line into the trimmer, since it is enough just to adjust the line as necessary, thereby increasing work productivity. Alternatively, the cutting element can be cut with a knife if it protrudes too much. But the length can also be adjusted right in the process of mowing vegetation, gently touching the head of the fishing line to the floor. But this can be done only if the material extends beyond the coil by at least 3 centimeters.

One of the main rules when replacing and adjusting equipment is that any manipulations with the mechanism should be carried out exclusively with the engine off and the device plug disconnected from the mains.

Perhaps these tips will tell you how to tuck the line into the trimmer as correctly as possible and, accordingly, give your site a neat and aesthetic appearance. All that is required is to correctly select the cutting material required by the type and, of course, to determine the category of the most used trimmer.

Near the house he always looked well-groomed and neat, he must be cut regularly. Fortunately, modern technology allows you to solve this problem without excessive physical effort. Electric trimmers are so easy to operate and maintain that even a teenager can use them to mow. The main thing is to figure out in advance how to fill in the trimmer.

How to Tuck Line Into the Trimmer Spool

Spool Trimmer Heads

The main elements of the trigger is the mowing head, which is a cylindrical body with a bobbin inserted inside. The fishing line (cord) is tucked into it. The heads differ from each other in the way of feeding and threading the cord. There are three types of heads in total:

  • Manual. To lengthen the cord, it is necessary to stop the apparatus. After that, the line will need to be pulled out manually.

Types of trimmer spools

Line winding

Threading the line into the trimmer spool is a relatively simple procedure, provided you follow a specific procedure. When you need to determine how many meters of consumable is enough, wind it around the bobbin so that the skein does not exceed the diameter of the sides. Having decided on the length of the cord, follow the instructions below:

  • Fold the consumable in half so that one end of the line is 10-15 cm longer than the other.
  • Charging should be started from the center board, which divides the trimmer bobbin into 2 parts. Find the groove where the cord should be inserted. Bend the last in half.
  • Determine in which direction you want to wind the line. To do this, take a closer look at the bobbin, which may contain an arrow or an inscription. She indicates the side of the winding. If there are no markings on the reel, then look at the arrow on the mowing head. wind in the opposite direction.
  • The consumables should be washed gently, turn to turn. Try to stick to the maximum thread tension.
  • After completing the lining, secure the short end of the material first. To do this, insert it into a groove on the side of the coil that fits in diameter. The other end (longer), attach in the groove on the other side of the trimmer bobbin.
  • After securing the fishing line, cut off the ends. Do not forget to leave allowances of about 10 cm.
  • Place the loaded bobbin onto the mowing head of the device. To do this, you need to alternately insert and pull the thread into the outlet holes of the head, in order to then place the bobbin of the device into the skin.
  • Using the required force, pull the cord out of the locking grooves and tighten the material. After completing this step, put on the cover and secure it with the latches.

Step-by-step winding of the line to the spool
You can also wind the cord on the trimmer in another way, in which two pieces of material are charged instead of one. The replacement is done like this:

  • Bend one end of the cord into a crochet hook.
  • There should be a hole at the bottom of the bobbin to hold the line in place. Insert the bent end of the thread there.
  • Wind the cord material in the direction of the arrow to the desired level, which does not exceed the diameter of the trimmer spool.
  • Do the same for the second bobbin compartment.
  • The assembly of the device head is similar to the first method.

Removing and disassembling the coil

The mowing trimmer head consists of a cover, a spring (not available in every model), a bobbin with a cord, and a cover. Before proceeding with the disassembly of the coil of the electrical unit, be sure to disconnect the trimmer from the mains. The disassembly method depends on the attachment of the mowing head. First option:

  • To remove the cover that covers the inside of the head, press on the latches (latches) that are located on both sides of the head.
  • Remove the cover, under which you will see the spool. remove it from the body. Some trimmer spools have a spring under the bobbin, which must also be carefully pulled out.
  • After removing the bobbin, you will see a screw in the center of the case. Unscrew it with a screwdriver.
  • After removing the fasteners, take the body of the part and, shaking it in different directions, remove the gearbox from the shaft.

In the second version, the trimmer head is screwed onto the gearbox shaft. To remove it, you need to fix the shaft. For this, such devices have a hole through which a thin screwdriver or metal rod is inserted. Brief instruction:

  • Insert a screwdriver into the special hole, then lock the shaft.
  • Grasp the body of the head and start twisting it. This should be done clockwise, since the thread on the shaft is left.

Winding the line to the reel

Which trimmer line is better?

The speed of electric and brushcutters is largely influenced by the quality of the line. The consumption of the cord itself, as well as the load that acts on the engine, depends on how correctly it is wound on the mowing reel. In this regard, every gardener needs to carefully study the rules for choosing and self-installing fishing line on a reel. This will prevent premature breakage of the scythe and make its use in the garden more convenient and efficient.

How to wind the line on the trimmer spool?

The second method is a little more difficult to do it yourself.

You need to wind the trimmer cord in the following order:

  • First, you need to cut off about 6 m of the total cord, and bend it. In this case, one of the parts should be slightly larger than the second;
  • Then the thread, where it was bent, will need to be inserted into the recess located on the dividing face between the two sections of the bobbin. As a result, the first part of the segment should be in the upper, and the second. in the lower section of the bobbin;
  • After that, you need to start winding the fishing line. This should be done in the direction of the arrow indicated on the spool body. The cord should not be intertwined during winding. The top of the cut should be wrapped neatly over the top and the bottom over the bottom of the bobbin. After that, two 15-centimeter pieces of cord should remain free;
  • Further, the remaining ends will need to be inserted into the grooves located at the top of the spool;
  • Then the fixed ends must be pushed into the through holes of the trimmer mowing head.

In the end, you will need to connect all parts of the mowing head, and pull each end of the line towards you a little. The finished coil will need to be installed on the trimmer and continue to work on the site.

Which trimmer line is better?

When choosing a fishing line, you need to take into account several of its parameters.

The list of the main characteristics of the cutting cord includes:

  • line thickness. on the market most often there are threads, the thickness of which is in the range of 1.2–4 mm. Thin cord, no more than 1.6 mm thick, is intended for trimmers whose power does not exceed 0.8 liters. from. Most often, this cord is used in cases where the farm has a low-power electric scythe with a fishing line and a knife. Cords, up to 2 mm to 2.6 mm in diameter, are used for trimmers from 1 to 1.8 liters. from. These fishing lines are able to successfully remove not only freshly grown, but also fairly old dried vegetation. Thick lines, with a diameter of 3 mm or more, are intended for use with petrol cutters with a capacity of at least 3 liters. from. A cord with this thickness shows itself well when mowing large and dense wild vegetation;
  • the shape of the cord for the trimmer. a lot depends on this factor, since when mowing the grass, the thread does not cut the stems, but repeatedly hits them. It is the shape of the thread that affects the speed of mowing the grass and the accuracy of its cutting line. Most often, you can find round lines on the market. This cord is suitable for cutting all types of vegetation. Slightly less common on the market is a square thread. It is best at removing large, hard stems and is often used for cutting wild bushes. There is also a star line on the market. It stands out for its low invasiveness for grass, so it is best used for the care of decorative natural lawns;
  • material. in most cases, manufacturers use nylon, polypropylene and polyamide to produce cutting cord. Cheaper trimmer cords are made of nylon with polyethylene additives, which significantly reduces the thread’s resistance to wear and temperature.

Also, when choosing a cord, you need to take into account the type of equipment that will be used to work on the site. If the household uses electric trimmers with a fishing line and a knife, then it is best to equip them with thin round cords that create a minimum load on the electric motor. If a powerful petrol cutter is used to care for the site, then you can confidently use a thread with any thickness and section to work with it, including homemade fishing lines from a plastic bottle. The load on the gasoline engine, in these cases, will be almost imperceptible.

How to insert line into the trimmer?

Filling the mowing reel with cutting thread for a trimmer is not difficult, but novice gardeners will have to practice a little in order to be able to quickly insert the cord into an existing utility trimmer in the future.

There are several ways to refuel the trimmer cutter head. The first method is the easiest and works well for beginner gardeners.

In this case, the cord is inserted into the spool in the following sequence:

  • First, you need to rewind about 6 m of trimmer line from a common spool, and then cut the resulting segment in half. The result should be 2 threads, each 3 m long;
  • Then, at one of the ends of the first segment, you will need to make a kind of hook, and insert it into one of the through holes located in the upper part of the spool;
  • Next, you need to start winding the line on the spool in the direction indicated by the arrow. During winding, you need to make sure that the line lies evenly on the surface of the spool, and does not go beyond its upper section. You do not need to wind the segment to the end, about 15 cm of thread should remain in your hands;
  • The remaining free end of the wound cord will need to be inserted into one of the recesses located at the top of the spool;
  • Further, the same procedure will need to be done with the second piece of fishing line. It will need to be wound around the lower section of the spool;
  • As in the first case, you do not need to wind the line all the way to the bottom section. The remaining piece of thread will need to be inserted into the second groove of the bobbin.

After the operation has been completed, the coil will need to be installed on the trimmer and wound up. To check the reliability of the thread attachment, you will need to press the throttle lever all the way so that the engine reaches maximum rpm. If the line does not fly out of the head, it means that the line is held securely, and it will not fly out of the mowing reel when mowing the grass.

How to thread the line into the trimmer spool?

The third method is suitable for refueling single-section mowing reels.

All actions must be performed in the following order:

  • First of all, you need to disassemble the mowing head, after which you need to clean it of grass, small debris and remnants of old cord;
  • Next, you need to cut off about 10 m of new line from the total and bend it in half. As a result, one hand must hold both ends of the line and the place of its fold;
  • After that, you need to find a notch in the spool. In a single-section mowing head, it is located at the top or bottom. There should be an arrow next to the recess, which indicates in which direction to wind the cord;
  • Then you need to start winding the fishing line. During installation, the line should not bend or hang down. Otherwise, it will constantly jump out of the reel;
  • After winding the cord in the hands of the operator, there should be 2 ends, 10-15 cm long;
  • These ends must be threaded through the through holes located in the side walls of the upper part of the coil, opposite each other;
  • After that, you need to assemble the coil. At the same time, its spring should exactly fit between two metal washers.

The finished one-section coil will need to be installed on a utility trimmer, after which it will be possible to continue mowing vegetation on the site.
