The thickness of the fishing line is calculated by the manufacturer based on engine power.
To replace the cord on most models, it is necessary to disassemble the mowing coil by pressing the latches. Sometimes, simultaneously with pressing the latches, it is also necessary to turn the upper part of the coil.
5-6 meters of thin cutting fishing line or up to 3 meters thick are tucked into a standard bobbin. The numbers are approximate, it all depends on the size of your mowing head. If it overheats during mowing, it is better to refuel less mowing line. There is a chance that it will bake, and you just throw it away.
In the simplest trimmers and lawn mowing there is a non-automatic coil with one antennae. Everything is simple there, we fix one edge of the fishing line in the slot inside the bobbin. Then we wind as much cord along the arrow as it fits under the protective cover. We output 10 cm of the string through the holes in the protective casing and coil and collect it.

If the fishing line on the trimmer has 2 antennae, then before winding the string is folded in half, shifting the edges by 5-10 centimeters. The bobbins come in different designs, but each one has a hook for fixing the middle of the cord. If the bobbin is single-section, that is, a hole where you need to thread one end of the fishing line and center it again. In a two-section coil, a cutout is located in the baffle.

When there are 10 centimeters left, we fix the edges in the slots. Pass the string through the holes on the coil body. Alternately, we easily twitch the fishing line so that no loops form inside, and insert the bobbin into the reel. Then we collect the mower coil. Sometimes there is such a coil design that when it is assembled, the edges of the string must be freed from the slots of the bobbin. You can check the correct assembly of the semi-automatic head of our garden equipment by imitating the tapping of the trimmer on the ground. We press the button in the center and at the same time pull the edges of the fishing line. If everything is in order, the antennae are slightly extended.
On Oleo-Mac lawn mowers, you do not need to disassemble the cutting coil at all. Just thread the string through the holes. We center it, and by rotating the “lamb” in the direction of the arrow, we wind the cord. Replacing the fishing line on the trimmer is very fast, this design begins to occur more often.

How to replace a fishing line in any trimmer
So, first unscrew the nozzle. Do this by rotating the drum to the right. Here we have a drum in our hands with the remains of an old fishing line. We open it. Most often, the lid closes with latches, which can be opened with a screwdriver by threading it through the holes and pressing lightly. Or you need to squeeze the lock and turn the cover in the direction of the arrow. At the same time, the lid itself must be kept, as in drums with automatic supply of fishing line there is a spring, which, when straightened, can throw out all the internal parts of the drum. Gently pulling out the reel, we remove scraps of fishing line from it.
Now you need to take 5 meters of new fishing line and fold in half (to find the middle). In the middle part of the reel there is a recess (in some designs. a hole), for which we need to hook our fishing line. There is also an arrow on the reel showing the direction of winding. An important detail. if the reel has two compartments, then one half of the fishing line should be wound in one direction, and the other in the other. Finishing the winding, you need to leave 15-20 cm of fishing line free. There are also two recesses on the upper ring of the coil through which these free ends must be drawn. The last step in the fishing line replacement process is to assemble the drum. First you need to put the spring and washers in their place. Then, holding the reel with one hand, with the other you need to thread the ends of the fishing line into the corresponding holes on the sides of the nozzle. After that, install the coil in its place, pulling the fishing line and trying not to displace the spring. When all the internal elements of the nozzle take their places, you can close the drum with a lid. You just need to make some effort so that the latches fall into place. Voila! The mowing nozzle is ready to go!

Engine power determines what maximum fishing line diameter can be used for a given scythe. For example, the manufacturer of an electric trimmer with a power of up to 1 kW recommends using a fishing line ø2 mm, and at values of about 500 W. only ø1.5 mm. Also, the manufacturer of any powerful trimmer with a curved bar recommends using a ø2 mm fishing line.
A gasoline engine is more durable than an electric one. because there you can install a thicker fishing line, which means stronger, which allows you to mow more grass and work longer.
For straight grass barrels, you can select the fishing line according to the following simple algorithm: the engine size in tens of cubic centimeters corresponds to the diameter in millimeters. For example, for a Husqvarna 128R lawn mower with an engine size of about 25 cm3, a ø2.5 ± 0.2 mm fishing line should be used. For more powerful brush cutters with volumes of more than 40 cm3, only the geometric dimensions of the outlet openings of the mowing head. no more than 4 mm, are used to limit the diameter of the line.
So, a thin fishing line (about 1.5 mm) cuts well the cultivated lawn grass, and thick (for example, 3.0.3.5 mm) successfully destroys weeds and even young shrubs.
The shape of the fishing line.
The simplest and cheapest in production is a round fishing line. However, the requirements of ergonomics and environmental protection limit its use. due to its physical properties, it creates an unacceptably high noise level (which is comparable to the noise of the engine itself). These are the classic Husqvarna round fishing line or Oregon RoundLine or Chipmaster.
To reduce the noise level produced by the fishing line, they give it a special shape. make it spiral like Oregon DuoLine Plus (noise reduction by 15 dB) or with special transverse grooves like Husqvarna Whisper (-8 dB).
Following the school laws of physics, "working" part of the fishing line during mowing is only the end surface, and not the side surface. However to enhance "pungent" fishing line, i.e. to increase efficiency, the cross-section is changed to faceted: star-shaped, square or square with teeth. Oregon StarLine, Nylsaw or Flexiblade.

What types of woods are
The most common type of fishing line, which is suitable for almost all types of coils. round cord. This is an ordinary fishing line suitable for mowing juicy grass, but mowing dead wood with it will be much more difficult, and even more so it can not cope with the bush.
As a rule, the diameter by which young grass can be mowed does not exceed 1.6 mm. The thicker the thread, the more coarse grass it can overcome.
There are fishing lines with sharp edges in the form of an asterisk or square, this option is more suitable for mowing dry grass just due to the existing sharp edges, but its disadvantage is more wear and tear and is inferior in strength to round cord.
There are fishing lines with improved aerodynamics with characteristic dents, scales and notches, such a product makes less noise, but they are used only on lawn mowers, since the exit of such a thread from the reel is difficult, it is used most often with discs into which segments are inserted. The disadvantage of this product is its fragility.
Most often in gas trimmers with an engine power of more than 1.5 hp apply cords with a metal cable inside.
This thread is ideal for mowing dry grass and small bushes. The presence of a core positively affects the wear resistance of this material.
The disadvantage of such a cord is its price, which is significantly higher than the listed opponents.
How to remove or refill a fishing line in a trimmer
It takes about 10-15 minutes to wind the line. What is a trimmer coil? Plastic case with a cassette inside, on which there is a special hook for convenient winding of fishing line.
Almost all trimmer coils have a similar mounting principle, this is the central screw-button, when pressed, it becomes possible to pull the fishing line of the required length. The photo below shows some examples of different coils for trimmers.
The bobbins of the trimmers, the motor of which is located near the ground, have a different mount to the axis of rotation, they have two buttons on the spool located on the sides that need to be pressed, otherwise the thread replacement is no different from other cassettes.
The principle of the correct winding of the fishing line is similar in all of the above cases, so for example, consider the standard version with two antennae.
To remove the reel with fishing line, it is necessary to unscrew the screw located in the center, but note that the thread there is left, so you have to turn it clockwise, this is done specially so that during operation it does not open under the influence of centrifugal force.
Next, using a screwdriver, disassemble the head and take out the reel, on which the fishing line is directly wound.
Having measured the necessary length and folded in half, you need to fill the fishing line into the reel, removing, in the end, its ends opposite each other (for this there are special slots for fixing).
After this, it is necessary to assemble the head in the reverse order by threading the ends of the cord into two corresponding holes.
