In 1970, for the primary (conveyor) filling and operation of transmission units for VAZ vehicles, a special TAD-17i gear oil was developed and introduced into production, which was made on the basis of Russian base oils with the Anglomol-99 additive package of the Lubrizol company. The TAD-17i oil was an analogue of the W / 90M oil from Fiat and, according to foreign classifications of that time, met the requirements of the SAE 90 and API GL-5 class..
However, in the early 80s, when developing cars of the VAZ-2108/09 family, it was established that the TAD-17i oil did not provide the required durability of the brass synchronizers of the new gearbox for front-wheel drive models. In addition, its use made it difficult to switch gearbox stages. Oils that would correspond to the operating conditions of transmissions of new machines were simply not produced in the USSR at that time. Therefore, for about ten years, engine oil was poured into the checkpoint of “eights” and “nines”, which did not ensure the durability of this unit. The situation changed in 1996, when specialists from the Tyumen Oil Company, together with the Scientific and Technical Center of JSC AvtoVAZ, developed a special oil for gearboxes of front-wheel drive vehicles from Togliatti. It has an SAE viscosity of 80W-85 and meets the API class GL-4 performance. At TNK, this product was originally named Trans KP, and later – Trans Oil. The use of this type of gear oil has made it possible to extend the life of the gearbox and avoid the problems associated with the use of engine oil. Today AvtoVAZ recommends the use of oils for the gearboxes of its front-wheel drive models that have viscosity according to SAE 75W-90 and 80W-90 and meet the performance properties according to API GL-4.

In lawn mowers, which today can be purchased in a wide range, usually a 2-stroke or 4-stroke engine is installed, and accordingly, for each of them it is necessary to prepare a fuel mixture on which they work..
It is not difficult to prepare a fuel mixture. The proportions of gasoline and oil are always indicated in the operating instructions, for example 1 to 32 or 1 to 35. This ratio applies to mineral oil. Synthetic oils are diluted with gasoline in a ratio of 1 to 50. And recommendations for proportions should be followed to the nearest gram!
And if you take a five-liter canister of gasoline, then you need to add only one hundred milliliters of oil to it, and the fuel mixture is ready, and with a low consumption of the fuel mixture by a lawn mower, this amount can be enough for the entire season.
There is an opinion that for a certain brand of lawn mowers you should buy two-stroke oil from the same company, and this is not the case. For any lawn mower with a two-stroke engine, any two-stroke oil is suitable, be it Stihl or Husqvarna, or for four-stroke engines – EFCO SAE oil.

The lack of an oil filter prevents the oil from being cleaned, and therefore it requires such frequent replacement. But fifty hours of work is not a short time, and such a change will not take long. It is better to change the oil in a lawn mower that has worked for a while, so that the oil in it is hot and liquid.

Having unscrewed the screw-plug, the oil is allowed to drain, after which new oil is poured through the measuring neck. Before changing the oil, the gasoline in the gas tank must be used up. The oil used for lawn mowers is mineral or synthetic, and its viscosity should be within the range. 10W40.
It is necessary to fill the lawn mower with no more “expensive” and better oil, but the one recommended by the manufacturer. If the oil is too thin, it will not stick between parts. The same requirements apply to gasoline. Expensive high-octane gasoline burns longer and can burn a valve, piston or piston rings. Pouring too much oil into the fuel mixture is also not recommended in order not to clog the rings in the engine, which may coke.
