Where is the fuel filter in the chainsaw

What happens if the fuel filter is clogged?

The filters are damaged, of course, by the dirt that gets into the tanks of our cars along with the fuel. And by no means the oil refineries are to blame. Fuel can become contaminated during storage and pumping. And the driver will feel the clogging of the fuel filter by the behavior of the car, and first in those modes where the instantaneous fuel consumption of the engine is maximum. These are driving modes with high speeds and intensive acceleration. In this case, the engine will lose traction, work intermittently, although at idle and “quiet” modes, everything will look decent.

For this test, a high-voltage cable must be put on it. Using pliers, you need to connect the spark plug nut and the cylinder. When starting the starter, a spark should slip between the electrodes. If not, then such a candle must be replaced. If, however, a spark does not form in a new spark plug, then it is necessary to check the integrity of the high-voltage cable or cap that connects them to each other.

The most vulnerable part of a chainsaw is the engine. But before you start repairing the device, you need to know exactly where the problem is.

Chainsaw fuel system: 1. fuel filter, 2. carburetor, 3. manual prepump pump.

The breakdowns associated with the engine include:

  • malfunctions in the ignition system;
  • breakdown of the fuel supply system;
  • malfunction of the piston, cylinder.

In addition, a STIHL chainsaw may not perform its functions due to the fact that a breakdown has occurred in the clutch, brake chain or mechanism, lubrication system.

In order to start eliminating defects (regardless of the location of the breakdown), you need to have:

  • sets of keys, in the middle of which there should be hex keys;
  • several screwdrivers (flat and Phillips) of different sizes;
  • a special key that can be supplied with the chainsaw.

Where is the fuel filter in the chainsaw

A car consumes a myriad of fuel in its life. If we take the average fuel consumption as 10 liters per hundred kilometers, then only during the warranty period, which is equal to 100,000 km for most manufacturers, approximately 10,000 liters of fuel will pass through the car’s fuel system. Now let’s imagine how much dirt such an amount of fuel can bring into the power system.

Fuel filter for diesel

Until now, we have been talking about petrol filters. Diesel fuel filters are always installed separately from the fuel tank, because, in addition to more frequent replacement, they also need water sensors, a water drain plug and, often, a heating system.

Malfunctions: general provisions, features

Like any mechanism, a STIHL chainsaw is susceptible to breakdowns. If, during the operation of the chainsaw, all the requirements that are described in the annotation for use are met, then the unit is able to serve for a long time without repair.

Injection system

Also, the fuel filter can be located in the injection system, the sensitivity to pollution of which is much higher than the previous one. Here, the filtration quality reaches five microns, and the body is made of a metal base and is located under the bottom of the car. Among other things, such an element can also retain water.

The cleaning system of such machine models is multistage. The coarse cleaning function is performed by a special mesh located on the fuel intake of the tank. Its cells are very small, so it is practically impossible to clean this mesh in case of clogging.

The next stage is a fine filter, which, in fact, retains water.

In the event that a sufficient degree of filtration is not ensured in the injection system, gas consumption will increase significantly, the engine will become uneven, and the start will become uncertain.

How to replace the fuel filter

Before you start repairing your car on your own, you need to purchase the necessary tools, as well as study the manual for your own car. Indeed, in some brands of cars, the filter is fixed on a special spring clip, which cannot be removed with improvised means. As a result, without the presence of a special tool, independent replacement of the fuel filter in this case does not make sense.

Near the place where the Priora-brand fuel filter is located, there is a valve through which it is necessary to relieve pressure. To do this, turn on the ignition and pull the fuel pump fuse out of the fuse box. After that, it is necessary to start the engine, let it idle and stop on its own.

Next, you need to disconnect the quick-release clamps and remove the filter. First, it is necessary to accurately remember the location of the old one and set it in such a way that the arrow drawn on the body points to the direction of gasoline movement.

After that, a new one can be installed in the place where the fuel filter is located (Kalina, for example, contains it near the rear wheel, not far from the fuel tank). To do this, you need to return to their places all previously unscrewed fuses and parts, and then start the car. This may take some time, so don’t be upset.

What is a fuel filter for?

In modern conditions, the quality of gasoline sometimes leaves much to be desired, and even prestigious stations are not insured against the purchase of low-quality fuel. It is he who contributes to the acceleration of the wear of many parts. Therefore, the purpose of the filter becomes clear even from the name. to filter the fuel from impurities. This part is optimally selected and installed in the system of each engine. Usually, gasoline can be diluted with water or various particles. And these impurities can get in at the stage of production, storage or transportation, or due to contamination with oxides and dust inside the tank. It can also happen due to condensation that occurs when the temperature in the tank changes.

The location of the fuel filter differs depending on the fuel system of the vehicle.

Filter replacement frequency

Situations are not uncommon when the engine begins to triple when the driver adds gas. If you do not pay attention to this malfunction in time, then soon the motor starts to stall periodically. Only then the car owner has to look for the cause of the breakdown.

Of course, there can be a lot of them, but most likely the reason was the clogging of the fuel filter. Most car manufacturers claim that the service life of this part is equal to the service life of the car, but practice proves that this is wrong, and the filter must be replaced after every twenty thousandth run.

Today, quite a few people are trying to save money on repairs without contacting a car service, but by replacing this part on their own. But the labor intensity of this process entirely depends on the make and model of the car: replacing the filter in some cars seems to be a rather easy procedure, and some require the intervention of specialists. Therefore, if you do not feel confident, you should not do it yourself, it is better to entrust this procedure to professionals. They can also show you where the fuel filter is.

It must be changed in case of severe pollution or the expiration date, despite the fact that domestic motorists have come up with ways to clean it. The replacement will be much safer, and the costs will be low.

What is a fuel filter

One of the most important elements of a car is the fuel filter. Its role is very significant in the car cleaning system. It is this part that accounts for the main turnover of low-quality combustible mixtures. And before the fuel enters the confined space, which is intended for fuel combustion, thanks to this component, a relatively normal fuel filtration is ensured.

These elements are tape-slotted or plate-slotted. This component is necessary for any machine to purify fuel from various impurities that prevent its combustion. In order to see where the fuel filter is located, you need an overpass or pit.

Fuel filter location

It is necessarily present in the power supply system of an internal combustion engine. Just like any other part of the car, the fuel filter has its own service life, after which it must be replaced. But, unfortunately, many people forget about this nuance due to the fact that this part has a rather long service life compared to other car filters. And the consequences of untimely filter replacement can appear after quite a long time. On average, the fuel filter must be replaced after forty thousand kilometers.

So where is the fuel filter in the car exactly? In modern car models, there are only two places in which it is located: in the engine compartment or under the bottom of the car (for example, the “Matiz” fuel filter, where there is a break in the fuel line, or in the fuel tank). The location of this part in various brands and models of cars does not differ significantly.

Propulsion system

The fuel filter can also be located at the highest point of the diesel system. Here, this element can trap air bubbles, which often interfere with the fuel supply. Typically, where the Crafter fuel filter is located, duplex filters are used, which have a dual cleaning system, which has an element that does not allow large particles to pass through, and is also less than two microns in size. This filtration system is called “fine cleaning”. Usually, it is present where the Nissan fuel filter is located.

Modern diesel engines are distinguished by their sophisticated and precise design, due to which the fuel is atomized more finely, due to which, in turn, the metering becomes more accurate. In most cases, the filtration system in such filters is multistage and includes such elements as a fuel intake mesh, a separator (filter-settler), as well as coarse and fine filters.

In some systems, the presence of condensate in the fuel is automatically detected, when exceeded, the light on the dashboard starts blinking.

In order not to create conditions for the appearance of condensation and there was no room for air, experts recommend filling the fuel tank to the top.

Where is the fuel filter

On Passat B3 and B4 vehicles, the fuel filter is located under the floor at the rear on the passenger side. On the Passat B5, the filter is also located below, near the right rear wheel. On the Passat B6 and CC. the submersible filter element is located in the same housing with the pump in the tank.

Signs of a clogged fuel filter

A clogged fuel filter causes a drop in pressure in the fuel rail, a depletion of the fuel-air mixture occurs, which can lead to the destruction of the cylinder head valve timing or the connecting rod-piston group.

The increased resistance of the filter creates an abnormal load on the pump and accelerates its wear, can cause overheating of the winding and its failure.

It is not recommended to use a car with a clogged filter.

Signs of a clogged fuel filter:

  • Unstable idle;
  • Difficulty starting the internal combustion engine, it will not start the first time;
  • Drop in motor power;
  • Jerks when picking up speed;
  • Depletion of the fuel-air mixture.

Similar symptoms may indicate other malfunctions. If these readings are present, it is recommended to replace the fuel filter first.

Fuel filter Volkswagen Passat

A direct-flow external fuel filter is installed on Volkswagen Passat cars in the B3, B4 and B5 bodies. On Volkswagen Passat B6 and Passat CC. submersible fuel filter, in the fuel pump housing in the tank.

The automaker recommends a scheduled replacement of filter elements at least 80 thousand km. mileage. A number of factors can affect the reduction of the scheduled replacement period.

In Volkswagen Passat cars, a pair of fuel filters is used in any body:

  • Coarse cleaning is carried out using a mesh filter, which filters out large elements, pieces of paint, scale, in fact, protects the blades of the fuel pump from damage;
  • Fine cleaning takes place in the filter housing when the fuel passes through a multilayer filter material, here the fuel is purified from unwanted impurities and water.

Replace the coarse filter if it is damaged, in other cases it is enough to rinse it with a brush or blow it with air.

The fine filter element needs regular replacement, as over time debris accumulates in it and the throughput and filtering capacity decreases. This affects the operation of the fuel pump and engine, affects the driving characteristics of the car, and can lead to breakdown.

Work progress

To replace the fuel filter in the Passat B6 or Passat CC, there is no need for an inspection pit or lift. The filter element is located in the fuel pump housing in the tank, which can be accessed from the passenger compartment.

  • Disconnect the battery;
  • Bleed off excess pressure in the system by pulling out the fuel pump fuse and starting the engine until it stalls;
  • Disconnect the lower part of the rear seat by pulling it back and up;
  • Using a screwdriver, remove the plastic cap to access the fuel filler flap;
  • Disconnect the fuel pump power supply terminal;
  • Remove accumulated dirt with a rag or vacuum cleaner;

Why put a fuel filter

The filter element is one of the most important parts in the fuel system of any car. Due to the high-quality operation of the fuel filter, refined fuel is supplied to the engine. Filtering out all kinds of contaminants in the fuel mixture, the filter element ensures efficient and stable operation of the power unit, and most importantly, prolongs its service life.

Fuel filter location

Every motorist should know where the fuel filter is. As this will ensure that the element is regularly checked to maintain its performance and it is timely replaced if necessary.

We talked about self-replacement of the filter element in the article “How to replace the fuel filter”.

If the fuel poured into the car is not of ideal quality, then the risks of foreign bodies entering the power unit. the smallest particles of paint, dirt and rust. increase. This leads to rapid wear of the fuel system pump and injectors that ensure correct injection of the fuel mixture. The quality of the fuel to be poured also affects the number of filters installed in the system. So, cars with a gasoline engine are equipped with one TF, and for diesel engines there are two such elements.

The location of the filter element is determined by the type of engine and the fuel used; below we will dwell on this in more detail. Now let’s clarify that the filter is located on the path of fuel movement from the tank to the engine and can have a different design.

Causes of fuel filter breakdowns

Most often, the fuel cleaning filter fails due to low-quality fuel mixtures. This leads to clogging or, less frequently, erosion of the filter element. In the first case, the flow of fuel through the highways becomes difficult, in the second, injectors and other engine parts become clogged and fail.

The device and the scheme of the filter

The type of fuel system common in all modern cars provides for the use of two filters:

Coarse cleaning. usually a mesh on the hole in the fuel tank through which fuel is taken. Such a device prevents large particles of debris and foreign inclusions from entering the fuel line.

Fine cleaning. cleans gasoline or diesel fuel from fine particles.

Fuel filters for cars with diesel engines have certain design differences. In addition to cleaning debris, they are capable of releasing water from the fuel, which degrades its quality.

Fine filters can be part of the fuel pump or installed as a separate module in the fuel line. For gasoline engines, such filters are made non-separable and consist of the following components:

Body (glass), which ensures the tightness of the structure.

A filter element that traps dirt particles. It is usually made from specialty paper.

Fittings (there are two of them. inlet and outlet). They are needed to connect the filter to the fuel line.

How To Replace a Chainsaw Fuel Filter

A healthy diet is the key to a long life and maximum performance of any heart of the car. Let’s clarify right away: this article is not about gasoline and diesel fuel.

Its main “heroes” will be those who stand guard over the safety of “iron horses”. fuel filters. We will tell you about the role they play in the life of the car, what is the complexity of their choice and how important is the timely replacement of the fuel filter in this article.

Auto with injection engine

Similarly, the filter element is located in injection-type systems. But since such a system is much more sensitive to pollution (in comparison with a carburetor analogue), the quality of fuel cleaning is of great importance. Here the metal filter does not “pass” particles larger than 5 microns to the engine. In addition, this device retains water.

The filtration system in such vehicles consists of several stages. For coarse cleaning, a special mesh is installed, which is located in the fuel intake of the gas tank. The mesh has very small cells, and therefore the ability to clean it when clogged is excluded.

At the next stage, the fine filter retains the water contained in the fuel mixture. In the case of an insufficient degree of cleaning during the operation of the car, fuel consumption increases significantly, the operation of the engine will become unstable, and the start of the power unit will become uncertain.

Fuel injector filter

avtoexperts.ru

The fuel filter is a small but important element of the car, which is responsible for cleaning the fuel from unwanted impurities, dust and water. Replacing the filter just in time makes it possible to increase the service life of the internal combustion engine and avoid damage caused by debris entering the combustion chambers. What filters are used in modern cars, what signs indicate its breakdown and how to replace this element. find out about all this from our material.

Why are they needed at all?

Forced fuel cleaning is a necessity to guarantee the performance of any engine running on liquid fuel. Filling the filter cavity, gasoline passes through a layer (there may be several of them) of the filter material, leaving particles of dust, dirt and other solid inclusions on its surface that adversely affect engine parts.

Its principle of operation is based on the fact that water is heavier than diesel fuel, and centrifugal force helps to separate them from each other. Due to the specifics of the separators, most of them are heated.

How to replace a fuel filter on a VAZ 2113-VAZ 2115?

Note! Before proceeding with the replacement of this unit, be sure to take the wrenches in your hands and use it to unscrew the nut that secures the negative terminal to the battery terminal so that the current in the engine disappears and you can work normally! (For how to remove the clip, see the article: “Replacing the battery with a VAZ”, paragraph 1)

Removal: 1) At the very beginning of the operation, release pressure from the engine power supply system. (For information on how to relieve pressure, see the article: “Reducing pressure in the power supply system”)

2) Then, during the operation, using two wrenches, slightly loosen the nuts that secure the high pressure fuel pipes to the fuel filter.

Note! Pay special attention to how these nuts need to be loosened, that is, with one key you will need to hook onto the nut that is located on the fuel filter housing and thereby hold it, and with the other key you will need to hook onto the second nut and then, using this key, start slightly slightly loosen the nut securing the fuel pipe to this filter!

3) When both nuts are loosened, use a screwdriver to completely unscrew the nut of the clamping clamp bolt, which in turn fixes the filter itself.

4) After the clamping clamp fastening nut together with the bolt lies on the floor, and you hold the filter itself in your hands, then take the wrench again and completely unscrew all the nuts that attach the high-pressure fuel hoses to the filter, and then disconnect, move the ends of the high pressure fuel pipes to the side from the filter itself and thereby completely remove the filter.

Note! When unscrewing the nuts securing the pipes, keep in mind that there will be pressure in the system and therefore, when disconnecting the pipes from the filter itself, be prepared for the fact that only a little gas will flow from these hoses, so be careful and make sure that it does not splash into your eyes when disconnecting the pipes!

And also be sure to check when you remove this filter, the condition of the fuel pipe tips, there are O-rings on them, so remove them and then check their condition, replace all torn or deformed rings with new ones!

Installation: The new fuel filter is installed in its place in the reverse order of removal.

Note! Be sure to pay attention to the arrow on the filter, it must be strictly directed in the direction of the fuel flow, that is, from the gas tank to the car engine!

Additional video clip: You can see more detailed instructions for replacing this filter in the video clip that is shown below, but only the replacement of this filter on the video is shown on the example of a VAZ 2110 car, do not be alarmed, since this filter is on both cars is replaced in the same way, so see the replacement of this filter on the top ten and thus do the same in your car.
