Belt or gear: what to choose?
The first option is considered budgetary. The belts move quickly, without putting pressure on the motor and bearings, and do not make much noise. The drive is easy to assemble, repaired, does not require special maintenance and costs.
The belt drive does not need additional lubrication, and it has a number of advantages over other devices:
- smooth transmission, while there is no need for additional lubrication;
- easy to use, if you need to replace it, you can do it yourself;
- low noise;
- wear of parts is minimal;
- long term of use, which is guaranteed by the manufacturer.
Drive belts are made from sturdy materials. Fiberglass, which is characterized by increased performance and withstand loads, is part of.
The variator is sold with a gearbox. Chinese manufacturers provide an assembled part, which makes it easy to install on a single axle tractor. The warranty period is at least 2 years. They are unpretentious and productive, they often run on diesel fuel.
Among the advantages are the high number of revolutions, power and engine displacement. Its durability directly depends on its strength. At high speeds, the load on the gearbox is maximum, it quickly wears out and becomes unusable. The service life of the part is drastically reduced.
Which single-axle tractor is better: with belts or gearbox?
A machine that helps to cope with various tasks in the garden area: loosening and shaping the soil, transporting goods, cleaning the territory and others. All this is about the walk-behind tractor. The device is reliable and convenient, but the quality directly depends on the type of engine.
Which single-axle tractor is better: belt or geared?
Russian-made equipment is equipped with motors created in different countries. Initially, they put exclusively “native” models, then, trying to reduce the cost of products. Chinese ones. They showed satisfactory results, so it was customary to try further.
Japanese and American engines showed the best effect.
Users often choose gasoline models, which are characterized by low cost, excellent maintainability, low noise during operation. Japanese-made engines reduce consumption and serve for many years without complaints.
Which motor is better?
To process their own plot, gardeners often resort to additional equipment in order to reduce the amount of time and effort spent on the production of work. You have to choose from a large number of models. The main thing is to take into account the amount of work and the required capacity.
Gearbox products with four-stroke engines are more often chosen if cleaning of a large plot of land is required. They are powerful, run on gasoline or diesel fuel, you can choose a budget model.
What it is?
First you need to figure out what a gearbox is. It is a mechanism that ensures the movement of the cultivator. A walk-behind tractor gearbox converts torque into driving force. The device is sometimes referred to as a transducer. The operational life of the motoblocks depends on it, therefore it is very important to pay attention to the quality of the parts when choosing.
The dimensions of the gearbox depend on the dimensions of the mechanized motor vehicles.
The simplest gearbox available on the market is of the belt type. As a rule, budget models of gearboxes use just such a device. The belt serves as a transmission element that is attached to the pulleys. Under heavy loads, the belt slips or breaks.
Slippage can be eliminated by installing toothed pulleys and a similar belt.
Belt converters reduce aggressive action on the propulsion system by reducing jerking. In addition, their construction is simple and repairs are easy.
Among the minuses, unfortunately, there are more factors.
- The belt stretches at high temperatures. This is what reduces grip.
- Rapid wear (abrades).
- Belt drive rupture due to kinks or twists.
- When the speed increases, the belt starts to slip.
- The pulleys must be in the same plane.
Which engine for a uniaxial tractor is better
Domestic equipment is equipped with engines of various manufacturers. First, they installed domestic motors, later they began to use Chinese ones. But they were far from perfect. We tried products from American and Japanese manufacturers. These motors for the walk-behind tractor showed their best side.
Consumers are of the opinion that Japanese units or American products are of high quality and durability. But it’s not always the case. Motor-building firms produce products of different quality. All motors from these manufacturers are divided into:
- cheap amateur;
- more expensive semi-professional;
They differ not only in quality, but also in cost. The most reliable engines are BriggsStratton. They work for a long time and do not cause any problems. The engines of the Japanese manufacturer Honda with the designation GX are of high quality. Durable and reliable Japanese engines Robin-Subaru.
Considering all the disadvantages, general characteristics and of engines, Lifan and Subaru, BriggsStratton and Honda come out on top. Chinese Lifan engine has recently gained popularity due to its high quality and low price.
Only the torque developed by the motor is considered objective. According to this parameter, the Subaru brand engine is far ahead of its competitors. Longer service life is observed in professional units. They are designed to work for a long time in harsh conditions.
Which single-axle tractor is better: diesel, gasoline, electric. Most owners choose gasoline-powered devices. They work much quieter, have a lower cost, and are highly maintainable. Most often, installations with Japanese and Chinese motors are chosen.
Japanese technology works with a high degree of reliability, serves for many years, consumes little fuel.
The quality of Chinese products is inferior to Japanese ones. But their cost is much cheaper. Not only Honda or Subaru are highly popular, but also Dinking and Lianlong. Experts recommend using them. For Russians, models are created with the series designations:
- GX. the motor for long-term operation.
- GP. assistant in everyday life.
- GC. for use with multipurpose aggregates.
- IGX. professional motors for heavy soils. Each engine is equipped with electronics.
All power units have high performance and are capable of performing almost all garden work. Gasoline engines have 1 or 2 cylinders, air cooling system. Often a gearbox is included. Honda motors are installed on cultivators, generators, motor pumps, lawn mowers.
Subaru produces four-stroke engines in three series:
- EY. with side valves;
- EH. valves are on top;
- EX. overhead valve mechanism.
The advantage of American models is an easy setup and start-up system, trouble-free operation. They are mounted on any garden equipment. The GreenField, Forza and Agromotor motors are in demand among consumers. They are of high quality and good performance, and are inexpensive.
If desired, you can purchase a diesel single-axle tractor. This powerful and reliable agricultural machine is a mini tractor with a large set of attachments. Attachments can be used to plow and cultivate, pump water, generate electricity, huddle and harvest potatoes. A seat is attached to the walk-behind tractor and used as a vehicle for transporting various goods.
In summer and autumn, you can remove branches and other household and garden waste, in winter you can fight with snowdrifts. Summer or winter diesel fuel is used as fuel.
Gear reducers are most often used in heavy equipment engines. The transmission consists of a gearbox, differentials and governor, gears and belts. The design of the device is simple.
The gear transmission contains bevel or spur gears. Due to the fact that several of them can be placed on one shaft at once, the dimensions of the converter are reduced.
Inside the gearbox, the gears work in pairs, so the ratio of the number of teeth on the driving and driven parts should be observed. Since freedom of rotating elements is required, the gear reducer requires regular lubrication and the presence of oil.
Among the advantages, one can also highlight the noiselessness of the engine on the specified type of gearbox.
Chain or gear
The chain drive is a mechanism for transmitting motion using gear sprockets and chains. The mechanism has its own advantages:
- transmits movement over long distances;
- one chain is capable of twisting several shafts;
- high transmission stability and efficiency.
- increased noise level;
- intensive wear of the chain;
- gradual pulling of the chain;
- high price.
There are roller, bush and toothed chains.
The gear reducer is more complex than all the others. During operation, it reduces engine speed and increases the power output of the unit. A good single axle tractor is equipped with such an air cooled gearbox. It can have a reverse, allowing the walk-behind tractor to move back. Disassembling and replacing gears is not difficult. In installations made in China, non-separable gearboxes are used. In the event of a breakdown, you need to change the entire body along with the filling.
The converter can be collapsible and non-collapsible. As a rule, budget modifications of walk-behind tractors are equipped with the last option. Their difference is in less expensive parts that cannot be replaced. In the event of a breakdown, you will have to change the entire gearbox. Manufacturers determine the service life of such models from one to two seasons, no more, provided that the device is used correctly.
expensive equipment is equipped with a collapsible gearbox, which can be repaired by replacing failed components. Therefore, the service life increases significantly.
The following items are included in the package of the converter.
- Housing. Depending on the type of gearbox, it can be collapsible or not.
- Rotor shaft that provides torque.
- Gears of different sizes.
- Chain or belt depending on the type of gearbox.
- With a chain drive, movement is carried out using sprockets. toothed discs.
- With a belt drive, the mechanism is equipped with pulleys on which the belt is put on.
- Bearings. Since all parts rotate, it is necessary to reduce friction and ensure free rotation of the elements. The bearing is designed to cope with this task.
All parts are inside the case. In addition to the standard set of accessories, elements for lubricating bearings can be added inside the device, for example, an oil pump or a cooling device.
Depending on the type of transmission used in the gearbox, converters are divided into several types. Different devices are used in the mechanisms of different fields of activity.
The reversing mechanism provides the vehicle with the ability to reverse. In this case, the reverse rotation clutch is installed between the bevel gears, which are located on the main shaft.
Unfortunately, the reverse gear is not suitable for high speed reproduction.
Differences between a walk-behind tractor and a cultivator
Owners of summer cottages and garden plots know very well how difficult it can be to dig them up after winter. Therefore, many resort to the help of special equipment. a walk-behind tractor or a cultivator. in order not only to prepare the land for planting, but also to work throughout the season: to huddle, loosen, harvest, etc. We just mentioned two units. a single-axle tractor and a cultivator. The question arises: what to choose. To answer it, we will have to figure out how one differs from the other.
What tasks does a single-axle tractor solve?
Motoblocks are heavier. their weight can reach 150 kg or more. Some models are equipped with more powerful diesel engines than petrol engines.
Transport wheels, a gearbox with reverse speed, the ability to work with a wide range of attachments make the walk-behind tractors more functional than cultivators.
The limited slip differential on medium and heavy motoblocks allows you to work on virgin lands, wet grass, move on arable land or washed-out roads. The heaviest models are comparable in functionality to mini garden tractors.
Choose a single-axle tractor if the site has an area of more than 0.5 hectares, in addition, it is assumed not only soil cultivation, but also deep plowing, especially virgin land, mowing grass, snow removal, and transportation of goods.
To work with a plow, choose walk-behind tractors weighing 100–120 kg. At the same time, it is important to remember: heavier walk-behind tractors work easier with rear attachments, but due to their weight and dimensions, they are much less convenient for milling.
Country lesson: how to choose a uniaxial tractor
When choosing a single-axle tractor for a suburban economy, determine what types of work you are going to perform using this technique. The main advantage of the walk-behind tractor is a large assortment of attachments with which you can: plow, harrow, process and loosen the soil, huddle and dig potatoes; mow and process grass and hay; clean the yard and paths from dirt, sand, debris and snow; carry small loads, etc.
What is the difference between a single-axle tractor and a motor-cultivator
With the close functionality of the cultivator and the walk-behind tractor, there are still differences between them.
At first glance, it is easy to see that the cultivators are smaller and lighter. Motoblocks are heavier and more overall, but at the same time they are more powerful. As a rule, cultivators are equipped with an engine of no more than 6 hp, while the engine power of a walk-behind tractor can reach 12 hp. and even more. Although some motor-cultivators in weight and dimensions are closer to walk-behind tractors.
The main difference lies in functionality: for a cultivator, the main operation is tillage with a milling cutter, a single-axle tractor can also loosen the ground with a milling cutter, but it is often used with a heavier plow for deep plowing. Therefore, a single-axle tractor will come in handy on virgin lands, and will also allow you to perform much more various operations thanks to additional attachments. A mower, potato digger, trolley, snow thrower, etc. can be attached to the unit.
The cultivator differs from the walk-behind tractor and the type of gearbox. Usually, a chain, sometimes gear-chain, worm gearboxes are installed on cultivators. Motoblocks are most often equipped with a reliable gear-chain reducer.
When to use a cultivator
The main working element of the cultivator is a sectional rotary cutter with a width of 35 to 100 cm, because the main function of the unit is tillage by milling. Thanks to the removable sections, the cutter width can be adjusted to suit different crops. Due to the coupling of the cutter to the ground, forward movement occurs.
Motorized cultivators are usually equipped with a 3–6 hp gasoline engine, and their weight starts from about 20 kg.
All these features determine the functionality of the cultivators. With their help, they perform:
Small, lightweight cultivators. about 20 kg. are indispensable for cultivating flower beds and greenhouses.
If it is necessary to process a summer cottage or garden plot up to 15-20 acres, cultivators weighing 40 kg or more are suitable.
Heavier cultivators (from 50 kg) are similar in function to light walk-behind tractors. Sometimes they are equipped with gearboxes, so it is possible to work with attachments: wheels with grousers, plows, hillers. Although in terms of processing quality, they are still inferior to walk-behind tractors.
Motorized cultivators pay off in small areas and in greenhouses. For such conditions, they are preferable to walk-behind tractors, since there is no need for intensive work and deep plowing, and their price is much lower. And the cultivators do an excellent job with loosening the soil with a milling cutter and processing row spacings.
Attachments to the walk-behind tractor in autumn and winter
Autumn is the time for harvesting and preparing the soil for winter. This task will be simplified by a single-axle tractor and its attachments. What devices will be needed in the fall, and what in the winter, we will consider in this article.
