7 Best Mulching Blades for Cub Cadet 2023. Cub cadet 46 inch mower blades

Cub cadet heavy duty blades??

Does anyone know where I can purchase heavy duty blades for a newer model lt 46” cub cadet? These are a “s” blade hole pattern. My mother purchased a new lt 46” mower and didn’t mow but a couple of times and bent the cheap super thin blades that came on it.I also have another neighbor that bought a new 42” cub cadet and bent a blade on hers before she even got the yard mowed one time.I bought some more blades for my mother but these are about as cheap and thin as you can get. If the spindles didn’t have the “s” bolt pattern I could find some but now we are stuck having to buy these factory blades.Could always probably change spindle out but who wants to do that when a new mower should not start tearing up from the beginning.

Perhaps figure out why the blades are bending, as that's not a common thing to happen, other than them physically striking something. And basically no lawn mower blades are made to handle that (striking things, including the ground).

If it is striking the ground or objects on the property, you want to either fix the ground (even it out a bit, and/or remove/cut down any objects in it, such as tree stumps/rocks/branches/other solid objects), or get some kind of brush cutter instead (as the blade system is designed to handle striking things [within limits without damaging them).

Cub Cadet is now owned by Stanley/Black and Decker, they are going to begin phasing out all of their internal combustion engines and equipment very soon and switch over to all battery powered tractors in the near future. Their blades are very thin and weak to begin with to keep manufacturing costs down. Their spindles are designed so it is difficult for aftermarket companies to make replacement blades easily and at low cost. They do that for the reason to keep the customer from buying aftermarket and stay with original equipment. Their original equipment blades are not made of high quality expensive materials to keep costs down and to prevent damage to other components if something is struck with the blade. They would rather you damage and replace a blade at a lower cost than break a spindle apart at a higher cost to replace. Unfortunately for the customer the blades don't last too long being manufactured that way.

Won't argue the blades may seem cheaper than normal but I've never ever seen a blade bend from just mowing grass. ever.

I've seen a few of them bend just cutting grass already, they were some very cheaply made poor blades made from very poor materials, very soft flexible steel that bent without hitting anything except grass. You'd never have thought that could happen, but it did. Must have been made with a bad batch of metal. They were dulled out from cutting about 1/2 acre of nice lawn. It's odd that it happened and the blades were taken back to the store for a cash refund, the blades were sent back to the manufacturer to be analyzed and it was found they came from a poor batch of steel. The company had thousands of blades made from the bad batch that were returned.

Thanks for the reply st1100a,yes it may be a bad batch of steel, but it’s unreal how lightweight these blades are.I know it sounds crazy but you can just about bend them by hand and that’s no joke.If we could find some blades that are the same thickness as an “average” blade that would be good but as it’s been mentioned,I’m sure the company wants you to buy their original blades which are made cheaper and lighter than any blade we have ever owned or seen before. The “s” bolt hole pattern is what makes it impossible to find aftermarket “average” blades.Maybe as more of these “new” mowers are sold and customers have problems with the lightweight paper thin blades then some of the aftermarket guys will produce some blade for them.

Not exactly sure why you suggest that there aren't any other blades out there that will fit the mower. Do it the easy way and plug the part number into the Amazon search box to see many available options, where you buy it from is up to you. The hole pattern is quite standard with the star shaped center hole and 2 smaller round holes on either side. The blade itself is somewhat "S" shaped, but that is a mere characteristic of the blade which can be changed.

The part number for your blade on the 46 inch model is: Cub Cadet 942-04244A

Summary

In the end, I would say whenever you buy any blade for your Cub Cadet; it’s better to check that it fits right and mow right. After you buy the right mulching blade for Cub Cadet, you will observe the benefits of mulching in few days as mulch will act as a natural fertilizer to nourish your lawn and make it lush green. From the above mentions, here are the three best mulching blades for Cub Cadet from my point of view are given below:

The benefits you reap from the above mulching blades are only when you have the right blade working for you.

So, I always pass any blade through my personal buying guide before making my final decision.

This buying guide is my personal checklist I created after experiencing different mulching blades. Below are some checkpoints that you can check to find out which blade is the right fit for your mower.

Length of Mulching Blade

Length is what makes blades rotate ideally under the deck of the mower without interfering with other parts. Lengths can vary from 16 to 22 inches which totally depends on the deck size of the mower.

Width of Mulching Blade

Width also matters as ideal width cut the grass right. It can vary from 2-4 inches. A wider blade can damage the deck or part of the mower, and a thinner blade can result in less mulching of grass.

Shape of Mulching Blade

Shape refers to the curve in the body and edges of the blade. Sharp and uplifted edges of the blade are ideal for mulching operations. The curve part of the blade makes it easy to cut grass and make mulch. the curve in the body of the blade means better mulching.

Fitment According to Hole

The blade’s hole must have the diameter and shape according to the shaft of the mower where you will mount it. Blades come with five, six, seven-star and circular types of holes. So, it’s better to check the blade’s hole for proper fitment on the Cub Cadet.

Number of Blades Required

Each Cub Cadet requires a different set of blades. Usually, two is the best option as you always have a spare if a single blade is needed. If your mower requires more than one blade, you can opt to buy a set of blades according to your budget.

Quality, Durability, and Warranty

The manufacture offers these three aspects. Usually, USA manufacturers are great in this case, and they provide good quality, durability, and warranty on mulching blades. I would say thicker and steel-made blades always prove to be qualitative and durable

After doing my master’s in agriculture, I went on with this field for more than 15 years because I love working in green. I have experienced using modern machinery and techniques that can help farmers and landscapers to achieve something great. My goal will be to deliver you the best reviews and information to make the right decision.
