How to Adjust Carburetor on STIHL Weed Eater?

Do weeds and grass have the run of your lawn or yard? Probably not if you own a STIHL Weed Eater.

Often called a grass trimmer, weed trimmer, weed wacker, or weed eater, this little piece of equipment will keep your lawn or yard looking great. One of the most well-known and popular brands on the market is the STIHL weed eater thanks to high-quality manufacturing, ease of operation, and the incredible durability of these power tools. With good maintenance, your STIHL weed eater will afford you great service for many years without requiring a replacement.

The STIHL Company works hard to correctly pre-set the various types of machinery and equipment that it manufactures. However, depending on where this equipment operates, environmental conditions that differ from place to place may affect how a piece of equipment idles, the speed of that idling, and even the power output of the machinery.

If your STIHL Weed Eater does not appear to perform correctly, you may need to adjust the settings of the machine’s carburetor. The Weed Eater features a two-cycle engine, so the adjustment of the carburetor is necessary every so often. Engines that require the use of an oil additive together with their gasoline fuel mixture occasionally may act up. But since the carburetor on the Weed Eater is small, it will only require a few minutes of your time to make the necessary adjustments.

Fine Tuning Your Weed Eater Carburetor to Your Needs

Necessary Tools and Process:

Step 1: Begin your carburetor adjustment by locating the screws for fuel adjustment. There will be two of these screws and you should be able to identify them on the carburetor’s side. One will have “Hi ” marking, while the other will have a “Lo” marking for identification. The “Hi” screw is for regulating your Weed Eater engine when it is performing at full throttle. The “Lo” screw will regulate the fuel use when your Weed Eater is idling.

Step 2: Using your small Phillips screwdriver, you will need to tighten these screws in order to place the needle ends found on the screws, so that they enter into the carburetor’s jets.

Step 3: Now you can begin to adjust the positions of the screws. Locating the “hi” screw, proceed to turn it counterclockwise exactly one turn and a half. You will need to turn the “Lo” screw one complete turn in the counterclockwise direction. Now locate the Weed Eater choke and pull the cable out to start up your engine. The engine, at first, may sound rough when attempting to run, but you need to keep it running. This can easily be worked by using the gas throttle. In order to make a proper carburetor adjustment, the Weed Eater engine needs to be warm.

STIHL AND ECHO THROTTLE CABLE ADJUSTMENT/ GET FULL POWER FROM YOUR TRIMMER!

Step 4: With your Weed Eater engine running, begin to turn the “Lo” screw very slowly in the counterclockwise direction. You should continue turning until the Weed Eater engine idles smoothly. Your engine should not stall, nor should it die on you. At the same time, the engine speed should not be so fast as to rotate the Weed Eater’s head.

Step 5: Now push open the throttle fully and check your engine’s performance. If the engine begins to sputter, then you need to smooth it out. You can do this y turning the “Hi” screw a bit less than a quarter of a turn in the clockwise direction. Do this until the engine runs smoothly. Exactly how much you will need to adjust or turn this screw will depend on the size of its load, the Weed Eater’shead, and the freshness or staleness of the fuel in the Weed Eater fuel tank.

Step 6: You may now begin to operate your Weed Eater. You will want to keep the small screwdriver with you during operations, in case you need to make any further small adjustments to the carburetor.

FAQ on How to Adjust Carburetor on STIHL Weed Eater

Can I adjust the carburetor on my STIHL weed eater by myself?

Fresh from the factory, every STIHL weed eater has a standard-setting for the carburetor. The pre-set standard affords the best air-fuel mixture and functions well generally, in most environmental conditions. The adjustment possibilities for the idle speed of the engine will have very small limits and adjusting the carburetor will not always resolve problems with engine acceleration. STIHL provides any owners’ instruction manual with all of their weed eaters. Check the manual for the correct settings for your STIHL model of the weed eater.

My STIHL weed eater starts and runs fine at idle, but I can’t get it to run at full throttle. Am I causing this by something I’m doing or is my weed eater in need of some repairs?

You need to appraise a few things. Is the fuel mix in your weed eater fresh? You should never use or store a fuel mix past two months either in the fuel tank or in a can. Then you can clean the screen in the Weed eater’s muffler, known as the “Spark Arrester” screen. Also, it may be necessary toinstall a new fuel tank’s filter, as well as cleaning or substituting the air filter. If your Weed eater still doesn’t run at full throttle take it to an authorized service center.

The Bottom Line

Even though these weed eaters have pre-set standard settings for optimum performance when they leave the factory, small adjustments may be necessary due to environmental conditions that differ from place to place. You may find that how your weed eater idles, or its idling speed needs a slight adjustment to guarantee the best possible performance during lawn care maintenance.

With this easy six-step guide you will be able to adjust the settings of the machine’s carburetor. Remember that a two-cycle engine will occasionally require the adjustment of the carburetor. Fortunately, the Weed Eater’s carburetor will only require a few minutes of your time to make those small necessary adjustments. And these adjustments to the carburetor, together with proper maintenance, will, however, allow you the best performance from your STIHL weed eater.

The device carburetor gasoline grass trimmer trimmer

Adjusting the carburetor of a brushcutter. a process that must be mastered for the full operation of the grass trimmer. Grass trimmer. a completely uncomplicated device, which can break down only in a few places and require mechanical repair or replacement parts. Adjusting the float-type brushcutter carburetor device may require knowledge of certain subtleties. Nuances due to the model and the specifics of its operation, will ensure a clear mode of mixing and feeding the fuel mixture.

Champion lawnmower carburetor, how to adjust? It is just a float-type grass trimmer. a common option, designed to mix in the prescribed proportions of air and fuel. The main problems that arise during the operation of the motor, are roughly similar to the malfunctions that overtake the carburetor in the car:

  • the engine can shut down immediately after you have managed to start it. The reason is that not enough gasoline is being supplied. This is called “poor” fuel;
  • Too much gasoline leads to incomplete combustion, excessive mixture density and uneconomical consumption.

Important! Adjust the carburetor has to be under different circumstances: a change in temperature, octane number of fuel or type of oil, after winter or the end of the running-in period, load or spontaneous turning of the screws from strong vibration of the body. Some owners prefer to tune the module before each use to make sure it is working properly.

Basic troubleshooting

Faults in the carburetor of brushcutter or grass trimmer, despite the relative ease of fixing them, sometimes require a long search by the method of elimination. The main causes are as follows:

brush, cutter, carburetor, adjustment, adjust

The most recurring breakdown. wear, rupture of the diaphragm. As a consequence, its loose. The fuel passages are not sealed at certain stages of the engine cycle. The reasons are as follows:

  • You run the brushcutter or trimmer for too long without stopping;
  • you fill the tank with low-quality fuel;
  • Exhaust gases enter the impulse line.

A deformed diaphragm has several bad consequences:

  • Not enough gasoline or oxygen in the combustible mixture created;
  • Engine starts after 10 or more unsuccessful attempts;
  • the engine rattles and clatters when running, etc. д.;
  • The operating piston deforms.

How much citric acid per gallon jar of cucumbers?

Causes of a clogged strainer are poor fuel cleaning, damage to the hose and/or discharge head.

Wear of the lever’s contact surface. the consequence of not completely cleaned fuel, which has caught grains of sand or particles of clay, metal or other inclusions that are not soluble in liquid hydrocarbons. There is a problem with fuel injection, the engine without load functions with interruptions.

Inlet needle breaks because of metal particles and rock in the gasoline. As a result, the inlet needle seat does not seat tightly and the fuel mixture leaks. There is too much air in the mixture created by the carburetor, which can cause the engine to “sneeze” during operation. Finally, the needle may stall because of poor-quality gasoline, or the machine has been idle for a long time.

Deposits may accumulate in the adjustment compartment. The needle does not close the hole completely and a lot of gasoline enters the fuel chamber. the engine overflows, possibly flooding the spark plugs as well. Because of this, the gasoline-air mixture contains an increased amount of gasoline vapor. The efficiency drops noticeably.

The diaphragm is often deformed (and sometimes torn) because the brushcutter or weed trimmer runs continuously for several hours. If you overdo it, it is more likely that the diaphragm will be damaged. New breakdowns will come out of the horn of plenty:

  • The piston is broken;
  • the number of attempts of unsuccessful engine start will increase dramatically;
  • the fuel mix contains too little gasoline;
  • The power output (thermal output) will drop drastically.

Adjustment lever seizing up due to improper installation, accidental bending. The contacting facet will get the wrong position. It will disrupt additional injection of gasoline.

The flapper is worn out

Throttle and air valve become unusable because of dust, metal particles, etc., in the air stream. д. Damaged flaps look like parts that have been blasted with sand. Due to the flap wear the efficiency of the engine will decrease, breakdowns will be detected. Piston and cylinder wear out.

The filter may not be compatible with your brushcutter or trimmer model. Eventually the motor shaft will suffer. pieces of it will get into the motor channels, causing the piston to break.

When the adjustment is too coarse (you can’t precisely set the parameters), the springs on the adjusting screws are to blame. The manufacturer of the brushcutter or grass trimmer may have supplied excessively thick and stiff springs. Find others at either workshops that repair similar equipment, or purchase one from any dealer or official representative of the company that made the motor for your grass trimmer or mechanical grass trimmer mower.

The primer is broken

Primer is a hand-operated mini-pump for forcing fuel into the carburetor. You may need to pump 20 ml of gasoline manually to start the engine successfully.

When the carburetor of a residential grass trimmer needs adjustment?

Adjust the grass trimmer’s built-in carburetor at:

  • The new engine was run-in, during which 4 to 5 liters of fuel mixture were used;
  • sudden changes in the weather;
  • Changing the air vacuum. for example, when the lawnmower is often used in mountainous terrain;
  • prolonged idle time of the grass trimmer;
  • intensive increase in the load on the brushcutter power unit;
  • Unintentional twisting of the carburetor adjustment screws causing increased engine vibration;
  • changes in the quality of the fuel mixture components;
  • overfilling of fuel by the carburetor, the consequence of which is an increase in fuel consumption;
  • Regular appearance of a thick layer of tarry deposits and carbon deposits on the surface of the spark plugs of the standard spark plug of the trimmer for grass;
  • starting the engine and its arbitrary shutdown or slow revs;
  • absence of fuel inflow into the power unit cylinder;
  • higher exhaust gas emissions.

Lack of timely adjustment of the carburetor can cause serious damage to the grass trimmer, up to the complete failure of its factory engine.

lawn mower carburetor adjustment with your own hands

Periodic adjustment of the grass trimmer carburetor should be performed on a serviced and fully serviceable power unit. Before starting the procedure, the operator must thoroughly wash the parts of the engine and inspect its CPG for burrs or other defects. In addition, it will be necessary to clean or change the spark plug, as well as wash the filter elements in the construction of the brushcutter.

During the carburetor adjustment, the lawn trimmer engine must work under a certain load. It is best to install a cord of appropriate diameter or cutting blades on the grass trimmer.

After installing the cutting elements, the operator must start the grass trimmer’s engine and let it run for about 10 minutes. If during the operation of the power unit at idle rpm it was noticed that the cord or blade is rotating, then it is necessary to reduce the speed created by the motor. To do so turn the control knob, often marked with the letter “T”, to the left until the cutting unit has come to a complete standstill.

Further scheme of adjustment of the fuel unit is as follows:

  • The regulator “L” located on the right side is responsible for enrichment of the fuel mixture with air during engine operation at low revolutions. The position of this screw should be adjusted first. To do this the operator needs to achieve maximum engine rpm when idling. to do this turn the screw “L” alternately to the right or left side. Once maximum RPMs are reached it will be necessary to turn it 1/2 turn to the left;
  • The screw “T” or “LA” is necessary for adjusting the idling speed. Turning it to the left will decrease the engine RPM and turning it to the right will increase it;
  • The regulator “H” on the left side is responsible for air enrichment of the fuel mixture when grass trimmer engine works at high revolutions. This screw is also used to set the engine power and fuel allowance. Adjustment of its position is performed by turning the screw to the right or left side until the maximum permissible engine speed. You will then need to turn the “H” screw 1/2 turn to the left.

Performing these actions in turn will allow you to properly adjust the trimmer fuel assembly for grass, without risking to exceed the allowable load on its main working mechanisms.

When the carburetor needs to be adjusted?

Stable working of your brushcutter carburetor depends greatly on correct carburetor tuning.

Adjustment is required in the following cases:

  • After running in a new grass trimmer, when 4-5 full tanks of fuel have been used during operation;
  • If the operator frequently changes the brand of gasoline used for refueling;
  • As a result of a sudden change in the weather;
  • Prolonged storage of your grass trimmer;
  • As a result of arbitrary unscrewing of adjusting bolts of trimmer, caused by strong vibration of its engine;
  • Due to a sharp increase in the amount of fuel used by your trimmer.

You will also need to adjust the carburetor on your brushcutter if the tool’s spark plug quickly becomes soiled or if there is a sudden increase in the amount of exhaust fumes discharged from the trimmer.

Adjusting the lawn trimmer carburetor with your own hands

Regardless of the model of the garden tool, adjusting the grass trimmer carburetor requires careful prior preparation. The owner of a brushcutter will need to check the spark plug, air filter and the carburetor itself. If there is dirt, all the elements must be cleaned, or if necessary, replaced.

The grass trimmer comes standard with 3 adjustment bolts. The first of them. marked with the letter L, and serves to adjust the engine when it works at low rpm. The second bolt is marked with the letter H, and is required for adjustment of the engine when it works at the highest rpm. The third bolt can be marked with the letters T or LA. with its help, the operator can adjust the engine’s work at idle rpm.

The process of adjusting the carburetor of a brushcutter is as follows:

  • First you need to do a series of actions with the adjusting bolt L. This is accomplished by turning it clockwise as far as it will go. After that the bolt L should be turned half a turn in the opposite direction. This will allow you to adjust the optimal oxygen enrichment of the fuel mixture at low engine speeds;
  • You will then adjust the idle speed of the engine. This is done by alternately turning the bolt T in different directions until the mowing head or blade stops turning;
  • Finally it is necessary to adjust the level of oxygen enrichment of the fuel at maximum engine speed. The H bolt should be turned clockwise as far as it will go and then back 1/2 turn in the opposite direction.

At the end, the operator must shut off the grass trimmer motor and start it up again. If it has been adjusted correctly, the brushcutter engine will go up in speed steadily when the throttle trigger is pulled and drop it quickly when the trigger is released.

Principle of operation of the carburetor

The brushcutter carburetor always works on the same principle.

The function of the node is as follows:

  • First, a certain vacuum is created in the diffuser as a result of the motor suction stroke, which leads to a suction of air masses;
  • Fuel then flows through the nozzles and the combustion chamber and mixes with the air. After enrichment with air, the gasoline is atomized gradually to create an air-fuel mixture;
  • Then the ready mixture enters the cylinder of the internal combustion engine, where it is affected by the piston. At the high point of the piston stroke, the fuel is ignited by a spark produced by the brushcutter’s spark plug;
  • Due to the fact that the inner cavity under the diaphragm by means of a channel is connected to the air from the environment, when the diaphragm rises the valve is opened. This causes the air to flow into the cavity under the diaphragm;
  • Once the chamber is filled with fuel mixture, the diaphragm quickly returns to its original position. The valve closes while filling with fuel.

the scheme of work of the node is repeated constantly, throughout the whole cycle of operation of the garden trimmer for grass.

When the carburetor needs to be adjusted?

A stable carburetor on your brushcutter depends to a large extent on correct carburetor settings.

Adjustment of the assembly is required in the following cases:

  • After running in a new grass trimmer, when 4-5 full tanks of fuel have been used during operation;
  • If the operator frequently changes the brand of gasoline used for refueling;
  • Sudden changes in the weather;
  • Due to prolonged storage of the grass trimmer;
  • As a result of an accidental unscrewing of the adjusting screws on the brushcutter caused by strong vibrations in the engine;
  • because of a sharp increase in the amount of fuel consumed by the trimmer.

Adjusting the carburetor of the trimmer will also be necessary in cases where the spark plug of the tool quickly becomes soiled, as well as a sharp increase in the volume of exhaust gases emitted by the trimmer.

Grass trimmer carburetor adjustment.

As a rule, the grass trimmer (lawnmower) should be adjusted according to the technical datasheet. In particular, the most correct will be to read the information exactly in the manual to your trimmer. It usually describes in detail how to adjust the lawnmower. If you don’t have a manual for your trimmer, you can use our tips.

Stages of adjustment of the lawn mower carburetor:

  • Low RPM L adjustment;
  • Adjustment of the idle speed with the LA (T) screw;
  • Adjusting the fuel flow at high rpm. H.

Adjusting the Fuel Flow. Low RPM (L).

First of all, the upper right L screw is adjusted, i.e. the amount of fuel supplied at low rpm is adjusted. For STIHL fs series trimmers, the L screw is turned all the way clockwise, then returned one full turn counterclockwise. Besides, such adjustment is also relevant to many other trimmers. Once you have done this, go to the LA (T) screw and turn it clockwise to increase revolutions and counterclockwise to decrease revolutions. It should also be noted that turning the screw counterclockwise adds fuel to the mixture, turning it clockwise reduces the amount of fuel in the mixture;

The second stage of the adjustment is the adjustment of the idle speed by means of the LA (T) screw, here the adjustment is done purely by ear. Turn the screw clockwise to increase the mower’s RPM and counterclockwise to decrease it. it is important to make sure that the mower head does not spin during idling. It should also be noted that the L and LA screws are adjusted in pairs, that is, changing the adjustments on one screw may require changing the adjustments on the second screw. After you have achieved a smooth operation of the engine with a minimum of vibration. go to the adjustment of H.

How the lawnmower carburettor works

The throttle valve determines the amount of air to be fed and this has a direct effect on the horsepower of the engine.

Fuel is sucked into the carburetor system by a pump (its diaphragm). Then flows through the connection on the carburetor. Then the fluid moves through the inlet and outlet valves of the pump. Filtered by the strainer. Fuel flows through the needle valve into the diaphragm chamber.

  • The air flows into the tube with an air divider (damper). The partition regulates the intensity of the airflow.
  • The fuel system is necessarily narrowed by a diffuser to increase the flow rate.
  • Gasoline through the float chamber and nozzle tube with a constriction. The float chamber adjusts the temporary volume of gasoline. The float chamber has a neutral pressure level, while the tube with a constriction is already low. Because of the pressure drop, the fuel flows through the nozzle.
  • Acceleration of airflow promotes the transfer of fuel (gasoline) and its atomization. As a result, an air-fuel mixture of the desired proportion or density is formed.
  • The air-fuel mixture enters the engine cylinder through the fuel tube.

The area of the open air flap determines the level of air density in the system. The wider the damper is open, the greater the fuel flow and power.

Simply put, adjusting the carburetor on a chainsaw is about creating an optimal fuel mixture through correct air supply.

When you need to adjust the carburetor of a domestic grass trimmer?

Adjust the built-in grass trimmer carburetor needs to be adjusted at:

  • The new engine was run-in, during which 4 to 5 liters of fuel mixture were used;
  • sudden changes in the weather;
  • changes in air vacuum. for example, when the lawnmower is often used in mountainous terrain;
  • prolonged idling of the grass trimmer;
  • intensive increase in the engine load on the brushcutter’s power unit;
  • arbitrary unscrewing of the carburettor’s internal adjusting screws. this causes increased vibration of the engine;
  • change in the quality of the fuel mixture components;
  • fuel overflow from the carburetor, resulting in increased fuel consumption;
  • regular appearance of a thick layer of tarry deposits and carbon deposits on the electrode surface of the standard grass trimmer spark plug;
  • engine starting and its random shutdown or slow acceleration;
  • lack of fuel supply to the power unit cylinder;
  • increased volume of exhaust gases emitted.

Lack of timely adjustment of the carburetor threatens a serious breakdown of the grass trimmer, up to the complete failure of its factory engine.

When you need to adjust the carburetor of a domestic grass trimmer?

Adjust the built-in grass trimmer carburetor when:

brush, cutter, carburetor, adjustment, adjust
  • running-in of a new engine, during which 4 to 5 liters of fuel mixture have been used;
  • sudden weather changes;
  • changes in air vacuum. e.g. when you frequently use the lawnmower in mountainous terrain;
  • prolonged idling of the grass trimmer;
  • High strain on the brushcutter’s power package;
  • arbitrary unscrewing of the built-in carburetor adjusting screws. this causes increased vibration of the engine;
  • changes in the quality of the fuel mixture components;
  • Fuel overflow in the carburetor, resulting in increased fuel consumption;
  • Regular appearance of a thick layer of tarry deposits and carbon deposits on the electrode surface of the standard spark plugs of the grass trimmer;
  • starting the engine and its arbitrary shutdown or slow revs;
  • lack of fuel supply to the power unit cylinder;
  • increased volume of emitted exhaust gases.

Lack of timely adjustment of the carburetor can cause serious damage to the grass trimmer, up to the complete failure of its original engine.

How to adjust the carburettor on the gasoline mower

Before adjusting, the filters must be thoroughly cleaned according to the maintenance in the manual.

Further adjustment of the lawnmower carburetor with your own hands is done with the adjustment screws. There are three of them in total:

Right (L). adjustment of the fuel mixture for low revolutions.

Find maximum idling rpm. To do this, slowly turn the screw (L) to the right and left.

To adjust the carburettor, turn the screw a quarter of a turn anticlockwise.

Lower (T). is responsible for adjustment of engine at idle speed.

It is characteristic for the correct adjustment of the idle speed:

  • steady operation of the cold engine;
  • hot engine rpm is not excessive;
  • for the trimmer head a large RPM margin;
  • stable engine operation during changes of position (sudden raising or lowering of the blade).

Left (H). mixture adjustment at high rpm. (The screw should be adjusted last).

The left screw (H) determines the overall adjustment of maximum rpm, engine power, temperature and gasoline consumption.

Adjust the lawnmower carburetor with the last screw as follows:

  • Open the throttle to full, with full throttle. Turn the propeller clockwise until the rpm drops (in this case, use your ear to guide you).
  • turn the screw as slowly as possible counterclockwise until the engine runs smoothly.
  • Then turn it back just a little bit, barely hearing a stable, steady running.
  • It is more convenient to review the operation of an experienced user for a clearer application of skills:

Interestingly, from the perspective of the author of the video, setting (its correctness) is determined by the color of the candle, not only the revs and engine stability.

The correct adjustment of the carburetor with their own hands in this case. combustion of the fuel mixture without residue, the color of the candle should be light brown.

The Chinese lawnmower does not start. Getting into the carburetor.

“It doesn’t pump gasoline in the cylinder, you can squirt it on and then it shuts down”. these are the words with which many of our service center receives a lot of gasoline in the summer period.

Can you fix it?? Unfortunately not always We will try to tell you about the most common problems with this carburetor and how to fix them with your own hands.

Before you make any manipulations with the carburetor it is necessary to exclude the possible malfunctions that can affect the operation of the lawnmower (simulate not working or not tuned carburetor:

Fuel filter (hoses): no mechanical damage on the filter body, no dirt, good flow capacity

Air filter: no mechanical damage to the filter surface, no dirt, good air flow

Faulty ignition system: a functioning spark plug “paired” with the ignition module should ensure stable engine operation

A reliable exhaust system: the cylinder outlet and the muffler must not be clogged with soot. which would cause the weed whacker to “choke”, not revving up. giving the impression of a faulty carburettor.

Tightness of the crankcase. Crankshaft oil seals, rubber intake adapters, as a result of damage (natural wear) let extra air into the engine, which usually manifests itself in a strong overrevving and a failure to adjust the carburetor.

If, after checking all these nodes suspicion remains on the carburetor, you can proceed to its primary inspection. Conventionally speaking, after unsuccessful attempts to start the engine. unscrew the spark plug and it is “dry”

The disassembly of the carburetor should be performed on a clean bright surface in order not to lose small parts. The disassembly process can be recorded on a camcorder, so it is easier to produce reverse assembly.

What you can check with your own hands at home?

“Standard” version of a modern Chinese lawnmower. Has the same layout and many variants of manufacturers (Patriot, Forward, Green, Etalon, Prorab, Varyag and many others)

We remove the air filter cover by unscrewing the screw.

Next, unscrew the two screws that fix the air filter housing and remove it.

Next, unscrewing the nut fixing the cable, remove it from the throttle body. The screw, marked with an arrow, adjusts the idle speed on these carburetors.

The carburetor gasket should not be damaged, if necessary replace it.

This quality screw is adjusted by the manufacturer, by itself it can not “razreguliruyutsya. In the course of operation it is possible adjustment due to wear of piston group, but it will have “minimal values”.

As practice shows the factory value of this adjustment. 1.5 turns (If you “razregulated” it. twist fully and unscrew 1.5 turns). With this value, provided the serviceability of components trimmer for grass necessarily starts. After warm-up it may be necessary to adjust the propeller (should be stable at gas rpm))

There is no need to turn it unnecessarily!

The Chinese gasoline scraper carburetors. on the left for the engine capacity of 26 and 33cm³, on the right for the engine capacity of 43 and 52cm³. The design is the same, the difference is shown in the photo. They are the same.

At once we examine a condition of diaphragm blades. They must not be “bent” away from the plane of the carburetor. The diaphragm itself must not have any damage.

The diaphragm gasket also must not be torn or damaged.

The body of the carburetor is also not allowed to dirt or deposits that can clog the channels and affect the operation of the carburetor.

The diaphragm must be “intact” and have no damage on its surface.

“The “heel” of the diaphragm must not “twist

Pay attention to the “inlet needle area”. If there is any dirt or even traces of rust, be sure to clean everything.

The stroke of the needle should be smooth, without faltering or jamming.

To check the needle, press the “sandwich” to the carburetor. pour gasoline (carburetor cleaner) over the area of the needle (the excl. orange arrow)

At the fuel connector put the hose (yoke) on the connector (yoke). red arrow), blow air in, at the same time inspect the needle for air “bubbles.

If there are no bubbles, the needle holds, no problem. If there are bubbles disassemble further.

Loosen rocker arm fixing screw.

There is a spring underneath the coring head, be careful when disassembling, don’t lose small parts.

Take out the axle with the coring head, the needle and the spring.

I’d like to note the following: if the “seat” under the needle is broken, no amount of manipulation will help. you will have to replace the carburetor.

How to adjust the trimmer for grass on the brushcutter

Most modules have adjustment screws, and to understand their functionality is usually helped by a diagram:

  • L. for fuel supply at low rpm;
  • H. fuel supply at high rpm and its consumption;
  • T. adjusting the idle speed.

Adjusting the brushcutter, the production of which is Chinese, can cause difficulties due to the presence of only one screw, which is responsible for the idle stroke.

A brush cutter carburetor is a unit in the power system. In it, like all carburetors, there is a process of mixing air and fuel (gasoline) for the upcoming supply to the engine cylinders.

The main thing in this process is the correct proportion of fuel and air, which is why the carburetor is regulated.

The main problems and malfunctions of the carburetor.

Strainer There are only two tasks with this element:

In order to find out the cause of the breakdown, the fuel filter cover is unscrewed to remove the strainer. If it just accumulated dirt, then washing with gasoline or blowing will help.

With visible damage to the strainer, it is imperative to install a new one. There may also be damage on the fuel supply pipe (during repair, check this element).

The carburetor starting device almost always does not work due to blockages. Use acetone or the same gasoline for flushing.

Blowing off carburetor parts with a blockage of compressed air is an acceptable and comfortable repair practice.

The throttle body, the bundles of carburetor parts, the intake or exhaust pipe. All of these parts are subject to depressurization. Probably you can check with a simple method. Smear the problem area with soap suds.

Fuel is sucked into the carburetor system by a pump (its membrane). Then it passes through the fitting in the carburetor. Further, the fluid moves through the inlet and outlet valves of the pump. Filtered by mesh. The needle valve moves into the membrane chamber.

Phased operation of the device:

  • Air supply to the tube with an air baffle (damper). The partition controls the intensity of the air flow.
  • The fuel supply system must be narrowed by a diffuser to increase the flow rate.
  • Gasoline through the float chamber and nozzle tube with narrowing. A camera with a float adjusts the temporary volume of gasoline. In the float chamber, the pressure level is neutral, and in the tube with narrowing is already low. Due to the pressure drop, fuel enters through the nozzle.
  • The acceleration of the air flow contributes to the transfer of fuel (gasoline) and its atomization. As a result, an air-fuel mixture of the necessary proportion or density is formed.
  • The air-fuel mixture enters the engine cylinder through the fuel pipe.

The level of air density in the system depends on the area of the open air damper. The wider the flap is open, the greater the fuel consumption and power.

Simply put, adjusting the carburetor on the brushcutter is creating the optimal fuel mixture due to the correct air supply.

How to adjust a carburetor on a brush cutter

Further carb adjustment do-it-yourself brushcutters performed by adjusting screws. There are three of them:

Right (L). Adjustment of the fuel mixture for low revs.

Need to find the maximum idle speed. To do this, slowly turn the screw (L) to the right and left.

To adjust, turn the screw a quarter of a turn necessarily counterclockwise.

Bottom (T). Is responsible for adjusting the engine at idle.

For proper adjustment of idling, it is typical:

  • Steady work of the cold engine;
  • Not overestimated speed of the hot engine;
  • A large headroom for the trimmer head;
  • Stable operation of the engine when changing position (sharp rise or descent of the knife).

Left (N). Adjustment of the mixture at high speeds. (The screw is configured last).

The left-hand screw (N) determines the general adjustment of the maximum speed, engine power, temperature and gas mileage.

Customization carburetor brushcutters with the last screw is performed as follows:

  • Open the throttle to full, while giving out full throttle. Turn the screw clockwise until the speed drops (in this case, they are oriented by ear).
  • Turn the screw as slowly as possible counterclockwise until the engine runs unevenly.
  • Then turn back quite a bit, barely hearing a stable, smooth operation.
  • For a more visual application of skills, it is more convenient to consider the work of an experienced user:

Interestingly, from the point of view of the author of the, the setting (its correctness) is determined by the color of the candle, and not just by the speed and stability of the engine.

The correct setting of the carburetor with your own hands in this case is the combustion of the fuel mixture without residue, the color of the candle should be light brown.

Carburetor Adjustment and Repair gas mowers

The trimmer does not belong to complex household appliances, so most of its breakdowns are mechanical in nature and can be successfully repaired with their own hands. Cleaning the carburetor of the Honda izy lawnmower. Even if the engine fails for serious reasons. Damage to the piston ring, for example, repair comes down to replacing the part.

But even with a relatively simple design, such a part of the device as a carburetor needs to be adjusted.

Principle of operation

A carburetor is a power system module in which liquid fuel and air are mixed before being fed into the engine cylinders. Depending on the tool and its operating mode, mixing and feeding are adjusted accordingly.

The device of the carburetor is the same for almost all cases. It belongs to the category of float devices. The latter provide stable parameters of the finished mixtures.

The principle of operation of the module is as follows.

  • Air enters the body of the tube with an air damper. The latter enhances or reduces air flow depending on its position.
  • In the area where the hole for supplying gasoline is formed, the tube has a constriction. A diffuser. Here the flow rate increases.
  • Fuel from the float chamber through the nozzle is fed into the tube. The carburetor device for lawn mowers. Carburetor tuning The float level determines the amount of fuel supplied. Since the pressure in the chamber is normal and low in the tube due to the greater dilution of air, gasoline is sucked through the nozzle.
  • Accelerated airflow picks up fuel and atomizes it, forming an air-fuel mixture of the desired density.
  • The mixture is sucked into the cylinder through a pipe.

The more open the air damper in the tube, the higher the density of the air flow, which means that more fuel enters the cylinder. Setting up the carburetor of the brushcutter is reduced to setting such a ratio of dampers at which the density of the fuel mixture becomes optimal.

Signs of imbalance

Carburetor debugging is necessarily carried out in the manufacture of the apparatus. As a rule, the owners will only learn about the need to adjust the fuel supply with their own hands after serious enough failures, during the correction of which the module was removed and, for example, cleaned.

Signs of a failure in the settings are as follows:

  • It starts, but the engine stalls right away. Since the engine can only work when a certain amount of gasoline is supplied, if the fuel is too “poor”, that is, when the feed channel is blocked, the motor will stop;
  • Too much fuel consumption, a lot of exhaust gases. The result of incomplete combustion of the mixture. In this case, on the contrary, there is too much fuel and the mixture turns out to be excessively dense.

Husqvarna 125R carburetor tuning without tachometer (temporary solution)

How to adjust carburetor,if you need to work, and the service with a tachometer is far away.

Carburetor STIHL, Makita, Husqvarna and others are adjustable using the adjusting screws. Sometimes the reason for the disorder of the work is a violation of fixation. Due to vibration or damage to the protective cap. Such a breakdown can be detected simply by trying to turn the screw a little: if the fixation is not rigid, it is worth checking the setting.

DIY carburetor adjustment

The configuration of the module does not apply to repair and replacement of spare parts is not required. Cleaning the Honda Lawnmower Carburetor. In this case, a gas trimmer carburetor repair kit will not be needed.

There are three screws for debugging:

  • L. Is regulated first, since it is responsible for supplying fuel at low speeds;
  • H. He is responsible for the supply of gasoline at high speeds, as well as for fuel consumption and temperature;
  • T. With its help idle debugging is carried out.

There are options, as a rule, this is a Chinese petrol scraper carburetor, when there is only one screw left for debugging on the case. For setting idle speed. This does not mean that the module is automatically configured. It means that it will be difficult to carry out even a type of repair such as debugging. In the photo. The adjustment of the carburetor of the Chinese trimmer.

  • Setting up the module is carried out only when the engine is warm: for this, the device is first turned on for 10 minutes. Carburetor adjustment If the mowing head rotates at idle, then proceed with debugging immediately: turn screw T counterclockwise until the rotation stops.
  • Adjustment starts with screw L. The screw rotates left and right until it finds its position at which idle speed does not become maximum.
  • Then turn the screw ¼ turn counter-clockwise. This will be his working position.
  • Idling must be adjusted by turning counterclockwise to increase the speed and clockwise to decrease. Its debugging consists in the achievement of such a mode in which a sufficient number of revolutions is made before the mowing head begins to rotate. In this case, the engine must work stably in different positions.
  • The position of the screw L is determined last. At maximum speeds the trimmer should not work for more than 10 seconds. The throttle opens, the screw turns clockwise, very slowly, until a decrease in the number of revolutions is established by ear.
  • Then, the screw also rotates slowly counterclockwise until the motor starts to malfunction. Then the screw is turned back clockwise until the engine starts working again normally.

If there is a tanometer, and if the recommended revolutions are indicated in the product passport, the correction can be made more accurate, focusing not on the ear, but on the readings of the device.

Husqvarna Chainsaw Carb Adjustment

Modern chainsaws have a complex system and consist of several main components, which periodically require maintenance and adjustment. In this article, we’ll talk about how to adjust the carburetor on a Husqvarna chainsaw.

Important. An experienced electrician has leaked the secret to the network how to pay half the price of electricity, the legal way. Read more

When does the Husqvarna chainsaw carburetor require adjustment

There are many problems that can be solved by adjusting the carburetor. Husqvarna chainsaw carburetor adjustment is necessary when a malfunction occurs such as:

  • Increased idle;
  • Heavy smoke during tool operation;
  • Difficulty starting a cold or hot engine;
  • Lack of traction and lower maximum revs.

This is by no means a complete list of problems that can be solved by tuning the Husqvarna carburetor. In some cases, adjusting the quality and quantity of the fuel mixture is carried out after an overhaul of the engine or in the process of scheduled maintenance of the chainsaw.

The manufacturer Husqvarna AB recommends adjusting the carburetor before and after the break-in.

The device and principle of operation of the Husqvarna carburetor

To successfully set up a Husqvarna chainsaw carburetor, you need to know its device and understand how it works. In fact, everything is not as complicated as it seems at first glance.

The saw carburetor has a built-in fuel pump, which is responsible for transporting a mixture of gasoline with oil, as well as a diaphragm, a needle valve with a rocker. Their joint work allows metering the fuel supply to the main chamber and two shutters.

One of the dampers is designed to adjust the fuel supply to the cylinder when pressing the gas, it is called the throttle, the second is responsible for restricting the air supply from the air filter to facilitate the start of the Husqvarna cold chainsaw. At that moment, when the operator shuts off the air supply to the carburetor with the help of an air damper, the fuel mixture is depleted and its supply to the cylinder is increased, due to which the chainsaw starts up much easier than when the cold start is carried out in normal mode.

An injector valve is involved in the operation of the Husqvarna carburetor, which atomizes the fuel and prevents air from entering the main chamber. Often problems when working with a saw can be caused by defects in this particular element. For example, a valve, if the chainsaw is not stored properly, can stick, fuel supply will stop, which will make the engine impossible. Also, malfunctions of the nozzle can cause air to leak into the main fuel chamber of the carburetor. In such cases, adjusting the position of the adjusting screws will not correct the situation; repairs or replacement of the assembly will be required.

For adjusting the quality and quantity of the mixture, as well as the number of revolutions of the crankshaft in idle mode, there are three adjusting screws installed in the carburetor body:

  • Screw (L). Adjusts the amount of fuel in low and medium speed mode;
  • (H). Responsible for traction at high speeds and their number;
  • (T). Changes the position of the throttle valve, thereby regulating the amount of fuel mixture entering the cylinder and the engine’s engine idling.

Screws (L) and (H) cannot be adjusted without specific knowledge and experience. Incorrect adjustment of the quality and quantity of the fuel mixture can cause the engine to stop working or malfunction, which will lead to its Rapid deterioration or even jamming.

Tools necessary for work

Before setting up the Husqvarna carburetor, you need to take care of the availability of all the tools that may come in handy. To carry out this type of work yourself, you will need:

An ordinary slotted screwdriver is not suitable for adjustment, because the adjustment screws on Husqvarna chainsaws can have a different cross-section. You have to purchase a special one, this is the peculiarity of repairing Husqvarna chainsaws, they did everything so that the saw could be repaired only in a specialized Husqvarna service.

Husqvarna carburetor algorithm and description

Husqvarna carburetor, is regulated similarly to how carburetors are adjusted on chainsaws from other manufacturers.

Immediately before the adjustment, it is necessary to conduct a complete diagnosis of the saw and make sure that there is no difficulty in supplying fuel and air intake into the crankcase of the chainsaw. You must also make sure the air filter is clean and replace it with a new one if necessary.

The procedure for the work is as follows:

  • Husqvarna carburettor factory settings are set on the muffled saw.
  • The engine starts and the saw warms up for several minutes.
  • By turning the screw (L) clockwise, there is a position at which the engine develops maximum speed, after which the screw must be turned back 1⁄4. If at the same time the chain of the chainsaw rotates, then it is necessary to reduce the idle speed by adjusting the position of the screw (T).
  • The next stage is the adjustment of the power of Husqvarna at maximum speed and the adjustment of their number. To do this, the tachometer is connected to the wound chainsaw, the throttle stick is squeezed to full, after which the tachometer readings are checked. If the maximum speed value differs from the maximum quantity recommended by the manufacturer, then by changing the position of the screw (H), the tachometer readings are normalized.

Adjustment nuances

After adjustment, the chainsaw should easily gain and lose speed, work stably at low and high speeds. If the saw chain rotates at idle after adjusting the carburetor control screws, this is a sign that the setting is incorrect and that the position of the screw (T) needs to be adjusted.

Also, when adjusting the Husqvarna carburetor, it is worth considering the response time of the chainsaw to the rotation of the screws. Settings do not change immediately, but within five, ten seconds.

One of the indicators of incorrect adjustment is a strong smoke during the operation of the saw, which indicates a large amount of fuel entering the combustion chamber. If this situation arises, adjust the position of the screw (L).

Factory settings

The factory default settings for the Husqvarna carburetor are the position of the screws (H) and (L), in which a working chainsaw must be guaranteed to start. For Husqvarna tools, this is one and a half turns from fully tightened screws (H) and (L). In the process of adjustment, you must first set the screws in the standard position, then start the chainsaw and make an accurate adjustment of power, the number of maximum revolutions and idle revolutions.

DIY carburetor repair

If during the complete diagnosis of the Husqvarna chainsaw, carburetor defects were detected, some of them can be eliminated without contacting the Husqvarna AB service center. For example, you can independently:

  • Change gaskets under the covers of the main chamber and fuel pump;
  • Clean or replace the strainer;
  • Replace the diaphragm or needle valve of the main chamber;
  • Repair the diaphragm of the fuel pump.

Gaskets, diaphragms and a needle valve with a rocker arm can be found in the repair kit that is available for each model of Husqvarna chainsaw carburetors.

brush, cutter, carburetor, adjustment, adjust

Also, if you have some experience, you can try to restore the faulty valve-nozzle, but you cannot guarantee a positive result when trying to restore the nozzle, if it is faulty, manufacturers recommend changing the carburetor completely.

The first thing to do before removing the carburetor from Husqvarna is to clean the saw with a compressor, since dirt can interfere with a quality repair. Next, you need to open the top cover of the chainsaw, remove the air filter, disconnect the rods from the control levers of the air and throttle valves. After that, unscrew the screws securing the carburetor.

Dismantling the carburetor body for repairs is quite simple. The cover of the main chamber is held by four screws, which can be removed using a conventional screw, the cover of the fuel pump is fixed with one wide screw.

Below is a, watching which it becomes clear how it is possible to repair a carburetor without contacting a Husqvarna service center.

Conclusion

Work on setting up or repairing a carburetor on Husqvarna chainsaws can be completed without any specific experience. In order to do everything right, you must follow the algorithm and have a minimal set of tools. It is also worthwhile to evaluate your strengths in advance and not risk it if you do not understand anything at all in the technique. Believe me, sometimes it’s better to pay a small amount to the master than to spoil the instrument by self-regulation.

We repair the Husqvarna 128R trimmer

I decided to write a couple of lines about the Husqvarna 128R braid. I bought this tool 2 years ago. Well, I think the tool is eminent, I will mow and mow. Not heavily loaded 18 acres plus around the site.

He worked with her in the mode: he spent the tank and allowed it to cool for 20 minutes. Over the summer, 3.4 times the full mileage of the site and the surrounding area. Poured Husqvarna Oil. Could not get enough, as the plant with a half kick. This year, she stopped pulling and started badly. I even stopped using it especially, as I suggested that nothing lasts forever, and perhaps she was already tired of me. I can try to do it myself, I thought, and went for the tool. I’ll start by cleaning the carburetor, I suggested, and did not think for a long time to climb into the bowels of the scythes.

The first thing I did was to remove a candle like norms, clean it, it’s better to replace it, but it wasn’t.The zero-idle result simply stalls. I take off the candle and check the spark. A spark that is, that is not. He began to probe and experiment. It turned out the tip of the high-voltage wire just fell off. Well, I think I don’t want to look for a new wire, time and money must be mowed. Soldered a vein of a high-voltage wire to a tip, I collect, anticipating a victory. But things are still there. Perhaps a spark jumped in the damaged wire and did not significantly affect the work. I disassemble again to remove and clean the carburetor of the brushcutter, and he just hangs out. From vibration just unscrewed. It turns out during a set of revolutions the air entered the slot, impoverished the already poor mixture of gasoline and was suffocating, but at idle it seemed to rattle. Here you have the American quality assembled in China. These bolts under the asterisk.

When disassembling, you need a screwdriver for interchangeable tips, asterisk tip and hexagon. Understands hemorrhoids. But apparently this is the key to reliability. Carefully and leisurely everything will turn out.

Air filter chamber. The filter was washed in kerosene. He became like new. Then it must be “moistened” in any oil. I will not describe the assembly of the braid. The main thing is not to lose the bolts and not mix them up. Different bolts with small and large threads. Large in plastic. Shallow on metal. The whole repair took about 2 hours. Good luck!
