Dixie Chopper is a brand of industrial zero-turning lawn mower formerly manufactured in Fillmore, Indiana, relocated to Gibson City, Illinois for a short period of time, but returned to Greencastle, Indiana. Many of the original assemblers from the Fillmore (Coatesville) facility returned to Dixie Chopper. Dixie Chopper was founded by Hoosier Art Evans in 1980. In February 2014 Dixie Chopper was purchased by Jacobsen/Textron. [1] However, on December 5, 2018, Textron notified dealers that they had ceased production of the Dixie Chopper. [2]
On August 5, 2019, Alamo group announced that they had acquired the assets of Dixie Chopper from Jacobsen/Textron. [3] On August 9, 2019, Alamo executive vice president, Dan Malone stated that they were working to transition equipment from Dixie Chopper’s former manufacturing facility in Fillmore, Ind., to Alamo’s Gibson City, Ill., location where Rhino Ag equipment is manufactured. [4] On August 29, 2018, Dan Samet, president of Rhino Ag, stated that, “. we’re in the process of ordering parts and retooling the facility to start making Dixie Chopper mowers. Our goal is to have Dixie Choppers available for our dealers in time for the 2020 mowing season”. [5] On December 5, 2019, Dixie Chopper posted a video to their YouTube channel announcing, “Dixie Chopper has a new home in Gibson City, IL at the RhinoAg manufacturing facility. 104 days after the company was acquired, the first Dixie Chopper mower has rolled off the assembly line.” However, their post on the same day includes the caveat, “This is a pilot run where we address any quality and assembly concerns before full production begins”. Dixie Chopper claims to build the world’s fastest lawn mowers. The most famous example was the Jet Mower, custom built by Art Evans in 1991 using a 150 HP Solar T62 APU from a Chinook Helicopter. [7] This mower was featured in a 1993 episode of Home Improvement. Dixie Chopper’s promotional video includes a brief clip from the episode. [8]
Dixie Chopper Motorcycle [ edit ]
The company was also featured on an episode of American Chopper where the Dixie Chopper Bike was built by Orange County Choppers and unveiled at Daytona Bike Week in 2004. The Bike featured a modified 1000cc Generac lawn mower engine rated at 32 horsepower (24 kW), which after some modifications produced a surprising amount of power despite not being a normal bike engine. The Jet Mower and Dixie Chopper Bike are mentioned in the Company History 1993 and 2005. [9]

As the operator mows the turf, the CheckMate striping roller gently folds the grass in the direction of cut. The resulting patterns are created by sunlight reflecting from the grass. Grass that is bent away from you reflects light which appears much lighter in color. Grass that is bent towards you appears a much deeper green due to shadows being cast under the bent tips of grass. When mowed and rolled in opposing directions, vibrant patterns are created, rivaling major league ballparks throughout America.

Smart Release Available
This mower may be equipped with a quick release system which allows the operator to remove or install the striper in seconds. Requires a minimum of two 3/8″ holes in the side of the mower mainframe. Adaptor plates fit any holes ranging 3″ to 4.5″ on center. Smart Release adaptor plates can be added to your cart from our Hardware Section.

Warranty
Big League Lawns, LLC warrants their products to be free of defects in material and workmanship. This warranty does not cover defects due directly or indirectly to misuse, abuse, normal wear and tear, failure to properly maintain the product or used for a purpose other than which it is intended. The duration of this warranty is expressly limited to one year parts and labor beginning from the date of delivery to the original user.
The obligation of Big League Lawns, LLC is limited solely to the repair or replacement, at our option, at its factory or authorized repair agent of any part that should prove deficient. Purchaser must maintain the product under normal operating conditions at all times. Prior to operation, become familiar with the features of the attachment. This product is not intended to be used in a transport position or to be backed over curbs. Failure to follow these instructions will void the warranty.

Protero Inc builds custom Dixie Chopper baggers for commercial and residential use. Our catchers fit a wide variety of Dixie Chopper lawn mowers including walk behind mowers and riding mowers. Our containers can hold anywhere from 7 bushels of leaves up to 22 bushels and can easily be dumped with the flip of a lever.
Our zero-turn Dixie Chopper bagger is ideal for residential use and lawn care companies who may have a variety of different sizes of Dixie Chopper zero-turn mowers. Our grass catchers can hold up to 22 bushels of leaves in a 2-container or 3-container system.

Dixie Chopper Unveils Electric Zero-Turn Concept Mower
Fillmore, Ind. – Dixie Chopper recently unveiled a new electric zero- turn concept mower at the 2021 GIEEXPO show in Louisville, Ky., along with the full product line and two new “SS” models for the 2022 model year.
Dixie Chopper, the lawn mower manufacturer known for speed, performance and high horsepower, might have been one of the last companies attendees would expect to see an electric mower from at the most recent GIEEXPO show. However, Dixie Chopper has led the outdoor power equipment industry through the years by pioneering alternative fuels in zero-turn mowers. Dixie Chopper was the first to bring propane (LP) mowers to market with an engine designed for propane without a conversion kit. Years later, the company also released the industry’s first compressed natural gas (CNG) commercial mower.
The initial electric concept mower, currently named the Raven, is a commercial-duty 58-volt design utilizing Smartec components for the deck motors, drive motors, controllers, and battery packs. The Dixie Chopper staff used the GIEEXPO show as an opportunity for feedback from attendees on the appearance and features of the concept mower, while listening to what the customers interested in electric zero-turn mowers are mostly concerned with when purchasing new equipment such as the Raven.
“We are very excited to release this concept mower to the market and get people talking about Dixie Chopper and electric zero-turn mowers in general.” said Dan Samet, President of Dixie Chopper. “The outdoor power equipment is undoubtedly making a shift towards more and more electric powered equipment, and we believe the Raven will be an excellent solution to deliver the speed, power, and performance customers expect from a Dixie Chopper mower when these go into production in the future.”
Dixie Chopper also introduced its full 2022 product lineup with new engine configurations for select models and two new “SS” models with special features and upgrades.
“It’s the horsepower stupid!” said Warren Evans, National Sales Manager of Dixie Chopper. “Our dealers and customers are proving time and time again that horsepower is king in the mower industry, so we’re very excited to add the 40hp Vanguard Big Block EFI engines to our popular Classic and XCaliber models for this model year.”
A limited edition BlackHawk SS and Eagle SS will be available for the 2022 model year. These new models will feature a custom paint scheme, custom designed seat, springer forks, engine upgrades, and more to give customers more power and performance. GIEEXPO attendees received their first look and test-drive of the BlackHawk SS in the outdoor demonstration area at this year’s show.
“I’m confident these new and limited-edition SS models will build some additional excitement in the BlackHawk and Eagle series of mowers.” said Tom Fehr, Lead Engineer of Dixie Chopper. “We’re offering a higher powered and better featured mower in their respective mower class than any other OEM in the industry.”
