Power city lawn mowers. A program to promote clean air by motivating our customers…

Manti

These community-powered cities have come together to encourage people to switch gas-powered lawnmowers and snowblowers for electric ones under a new program called GreenXchange. The GreenXchange program is designed to reduce air emissions produced by gas-powered yard equipment and improve air quality. Any residential electric utility customer that lives in one of these cities can receive a rebate up to 300 for exchanging their gas-powered yard equipment for new electric-powered equipment. These cities are committed to reducing air pollution in our communities and encouraging more clean air for the future.

According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), yard equipment engines, which have had unregulated emissions until the late 1990’s, emit high levels of carbon monoxide, volatile organic compounds and nitrogen oxides, producing up to 5% of the nation’s air pollution and a good deal more in metropolitan areas. A new gas-powered lawn mower emits as much air pollution in one hour of operation as driving 11 new cars for the same amount of time. That doesn’t include the estimated 17 million gallons of gas that spill each year while refueling lawn equipment, which is not only harmful to the environment, but can be very harmful for asthmatics.

Fact: According to the EPA, one gas mower spews 88 lbs. of the greenhouse gas CO2, and 34 lbs. of other pollutants into the air every year.

“Since this equipment is used mostly during the hot summer months, when ground level ozone is the highest, it causes problems for asthmatics and aggravates other respiratory conditions. When weather forecasts indicate ground-level ozone (the main component of smog) could reach an unhealthy level, environmental agencies will call an Ozone Action Day. Standard ozone alert day advice is to delay or curtail all gas mowing.” https://www.peoplepoweredmachines.com/faq-environment.htm

Battery AH Explained The best way to describe battery amp hour is that this is effectively the size of your fuel tank, the more amp hours your battery has then the longer the battery will last between charges. amp hours does not increase the power of a given tool.

Battery Voltage Explained A tool with a higher voltage than another is a bit like choosing an engine in a car, the higher voltage will generally mean higher power performance. As with cars though a bigger engine does not always translate to better performance so it is important to compare the specifications of tools at different voltages between different manufacturers.

Bosch PowerForAll The Bosch PowerForAll Tool range is a range of tools you can buy knowing that batteries are compatible with all tools in the range providing they are of the same voltage. eg 18v fits 18v, 12v (10.8v) fits 12v (10.8v) etc. Please also note that 10.8v is compatible with 12v vice versa as it is just a name change. Indego Lawnmowers also use the PowerForAll 18v battery but require a cover plate to be removed if changing.

PowerForAll has many advantages not least the fact that once you have a tool with a few batteries then there is no need to buy the more expensive versions with battery charger, you can just go ahead buy the much cheaper no battery versions!

So remember PowerForAll signifies complete battery compatibility throughout the range. There is however, one caveat to this, some of the very first older chargers will not charge the very latest batteries a battery charger upgrade will be required if you have a first generation charger. All batteries fit all tools however.

As of 2021 Bosch has licensed PowerForAll to other manufacturers whereby batteries between these manufacturers will be interchangeable.

Important You cannot use Bosch Pro (Blue) batteries in either 12v or 18v DIY (Green) products.

Peter 13/09/2022 16:34:33 Generally very happy with the mower. It’s advertised as a city mower and it worked pretty well on my small lawn. It didn’t excel at anything but it is a good allrounder. Pros. Bosch universal battery and easy to change Dead lock key, which means you can’t switch it on without it, so it won’t chop anybody’s finger off by accident. Reasonably sized grass box and cut height adjuster Ergonomic handles and switches. Cons: The handle is fiddly to put down for storage.

Jane 14/07/2022 09:28:12 Cuts grass well and quickly. I have a small ‘lawn‘, but it’s mostly couch and meadow grass and it has no problem with this. It is so lightweight and therefore easy to get out and put away. Quiet too

Charlotte 13/07/2022 21:49:12 Great service and speedy delivery. First time we’ve owned a cordless mower. quite life changing if you’re used to faffing around with cables and extension leads! I have registered for the free battery but have yet to receive it but that comes direct from Bosch so not Tooled-Up’s problem. Very happy otherwise.

Alan 08/06/2022 16:06:55 The Bosch 18V Citymower lawnmower is very lightweight and easy to use. The 3 year warranty is a bonus. I bought the bare model which costs about the same as the similar 240V version. My wife likes the flexibility of having no trailing lead and the quietness of the mower.

Anthony 09/05/2022 10:07:22 Great service and delivery from Tooled-up. Lawn mower works fine, battery doesn’t last overly long but I wasn’t expecting it to. One niggle is the handle which is smooth on the top but ridged underneath so it’s not comfortable to carry far. That said it’s a great product.

Joel 28/04/2022 15:49:32 Great mower, but only really ideal for small lawns where you don’t really care for lines or a perfect cut. But if you are on a budget and want a cordless mower it’s great!

Paul 27/04/2022 16:17:31 Great service and quick delivery of the product. A lot cheaper than other suppliers such as Amazon. In fact it was so much cheaper that I had to keep checking that I was comparing the same product. Build quality of the item itself is very flimsy but I read about that via other reviews and knew about it prior to purchase so it wasn’t a surprise. All in all, I’m very happy.

MR 06/04/2022 21:12:17 Only used a couple of times but has worked as expected. Bought it to do the edges of the lawn instead of manouvering the big petrol one. This is very light and saves using electric cords. Bit flimsey but was expected and you just need to treat it appropriately. Similarly box fills quickly but light and easy to remove and empty. Overall very pleased so far.

Stefano 10/06/2022 16:04:40 Having only just purchased the mower it’s far too early for me to make an in-depth review. However having used the item for the first time, it seems like a good product and ideal for small lawns. My only gripe is the fact that manufactures not provide the battery and charger which has to be purchased separately which is why there are less stars than there could have been. Food for thought!

Les 10/04/2022 12:37:03 Overall satisfactory bearing in mind the price. I was disappointed, however, to find the box in which the mower was sent had obviously been previously opened and there were signs of usage particularly around the top of the handle, as if the item may have been used for display purposes. I was in two minds whether to send it back, but decided it was too much hassle. Don’t think I will use you again though.

Making the switch to cleaner lawn equipment may not cost as much as you think.

Every time you mow a lawn with a gas-powered mower, you’re adding new pollutants into the air. In fact, using a gas-powered mower for just one hour releases the same amount of VOCs into the air as driving a new car for 45 miles, which is part of why gas mowers and other lawn equipment are responsible for as much as 5 percent of the air pollution in the United States. Some states are proposing laws to prohibit the purchase of these mowers in the coming years. Honda has even pledged to stop selling gas mowers in the United States by the end of 2024.

In addition, battery technology has been improving and homeowner concerns have been growing about carbon footprints and greenhouse gas emissions. The result is that electric lawn mowers have been gaining popularity.

Contrary to what many believe, you can even save money using an electric mower instead of a gas one. They’re competitively priced and cost less to operate, especially when you consider gas prices.

Don’t Start A Lawn Care Business

If you currently have a gas-powered mower and are ready to make the switch to a clean, electric model, you may be able to get a rebate to help make the new purchase a little easier. Lawn mower rebates are offered by many cities, states, and even utility companies.

How to Find Electric Lawn Mower Rebates

There are several different types of electric lawn mower rebates available, and the trick is finding one that applies to you. Start by checking with your local government for the city or county you live in. If that search doesn’t yield any results, you can also try searching by the state you live in.

There are numerous rebate and exchange programs that cover more than one city or zipcode, and you may fall into one of these. Another place to check is with your utility company. Some are offering rebates or credits to their customers for switching to more environmentally-friendly appliances and equipment, including lawn mowers. Searching for “electric lawn mower rebate near me” or using your city name could also help bring up viable options for you.

Once you find a rebate or exchange program near you, be sure to closely read the fine print. Some require that you purchase a specific model of electric mower—such as a battery powered model over a corded one. Others also require that you turn in an old (and, in some cases, working) gas mower in order to qualify for some or all of the rebate. You will likely need to provide documentation of your purchase and proof of residency, as well.

City Rebate and Exchange Programs

One of the first places to look for rebate programs is in the city where you live. Many local governments are offering either rebate or exchange programs to encourage their residents to make the switch to cleaner energy sources. The specific outlines of each program will vary based on location; some are simply offering a rebate to any customers who purchases an electric-powered motor, while others require customers to turn in a functioning gas-powered model in order to receive any funds.

If you live in Toledo, Ohio, you’re in luck. The city is offering a limited number of 100 rebates for residents who purchase a new battery-powered mower and dispose of their old gas-powered model. The rebate is a 100 gift card.

Regional Rebate and Exchange Programs

There are also rebate programs run by larger regional governments or organizations. For example, the Regional Air Quality Council is also running a rebate and exchange program for the Denver Metro/North Front Range area of Colorado. Residents can receive a 150 voucher when they recycle their old gas mower at a participating Ace Hardware or The Home Depot in the city. With this program, even residents who don’t have a gas-powered mower to recycle can receive a 75 voucher towards the purchase of a new electric lawn mower.

Another example of a regional program is the one being run by the South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD). The program covers residents of most of San Bernardino, Riverside, Orange, and most of Los Angeles Counties in California. When they trade in a working gas mower, residents can receive a rebate of up to 250 on the purchase of a new, zero-emission battery-powered lawn mower. The maximum rebate of 250 only applies to electric lawn mowers that retail for 401 or more, but even cheaper lawn mowers can qualify for a 150 rebate.

Utility Company Rebates

If the state or regional government in your area doesn’t offer a rebate or exchange program, check with the local utility companies. For example, Clark County REMC, a utility company in Indiana, offers customers up to 50 towards the purchase of a new electric lawn mower (minimum of 36 volts), string trimmer, or leaf blower.

Similarly, all 17 of the electric utility companies in Vermont offer rebates and incentives to encourage their customers to switch from gas to electric mowers. The specific discount varies, but may be up to 100 in some areas.

Incentives and Tax Credits for Landscaping Companies

Landscaping companies can also receive benefits for making the switch to electric-powered lawn equipment. Numerous states offer various incentives to make the transition from gas-equipment a bit less painful.

For example, Michigan’s Clean Diesel Program will cover up to 60 percent of the cost of new electric mowers, California’s Clean Off-Road Equipment Voucher Incentive Project offers up to 12,500 per mower, and Colorado’s Clean Diesel Program covers up to 45 percent of a new electric mower.

Push Lawn Mowers (89 items found)

Professional-grade lawn mowers make lawn maintenance quick and easy. We have a variety of self-propelled, gas and electric push lawn mowers to get the job done.

What is a Push Mower?

A push lawn mower, or walk-behind mower, relies on the person operating it to push it forward and the sharpness of its blades to cut grass. Manual push mowers require more effort than self-propelled gas or electric options, as the operators must exert force to cut the grass since the motor only spins the mower blades. This means that a push mower only moves as fast as you push it and is more physically demanding.

Self-propelled push mowers move on their own using a gearbox connected to the front or rear wheels, but the operator still guides the equipment to where it needs to go. While manual push lawn mowers are harder work, they are roughly half the price of self-propelled mowers. They also weigh less than self-propelled mowers because they don’t have a gearbox, making manual push mowers easier to move around.

Electric vs. Gas Push Mowers

Gas mowers are available in both push and self-propelled models, requiring gas to run, unlike electric mowers which rely on a cord plugged into an outlet or a battery to keep the motor going.

power, city, lawn, mowers

There are many factors to consider when choosing between a gas or electric push mower. Gas push lawn mowers are less eco-friendly since they produce more emissions than battery-operated mowers and have ongoing maintenance costs.

A huge benefit of buying a gas push mower is they don’t require a battery charge, so you’ll never get stuck halfway through lawn mowing with a dead battery. They can run for hours, operating in all types of weather, while battery-operated mowers’ average runtime is 30 to 60 minutes, and dependent on the battery’s AH rating.

A push-style mower with a cord is cheaper than a cordless option, but the limitation is that only runs while plugged in – just be mindful to avoid the cord when mowing and be aware that using electric mowers can be dangerous in wet weather. If you want to eliminate the cord, look for a cordless battery push mower, remembering that you’ll need to charge the battery between uses.

What to Look for in a Push Mower

Look for the following tools and features in our selection of push lawn mowers:

  • Engine size: Our mowers range from 125cc to 163cc.
  • Weight: The weight of the mower will determine its maneuverability – which is especially important for push mowers requiring more physical exertion.
  • Variable speed and torque control: Adjustable speeds help modify settings for optimal operation.
  • Drive control: Some mowers have a bail (metal rod) that you squeeze against the handle or a lever you push with your thumb. Others have a handle you squeeze like a brake on a bike.
  • Grass collection: Mowers can mulch, collect grass in a bag, or discharge clipping out the deck. Most mowers usually have two of these features.
  • Rear bag size: In mowers that include one, the size of the rear bag may vary between models.
  • Cord length: Consider how long you need the cord to extend for electric mowers.
  • Gas tank and oil fill locations: Caps and oil-fill spouts should be conveniently located for easy access.
  • Tall rear wheels: These wheels help the mower maneuver easily over rough surfaces.
  • Storage convenience: Look for a foldable handle for upright, efficient storage.
  • Push-button start: Push-start buttons help limit the start-up hassle of pull-start mowers or keyed-start mowers to get you on the job faster.
  • Additional items: Mowers may include parts like an oil container, rear bag and/or side discharge chute.

Consider your lawn size, surface level, budget, and physical strength when determining which mower works best for you.
