Chainsaw Stihl 180 does not develop momentum, or after you let go of the gas trigger, it continues to work without releasing momentum. These problems are quite common. Why the chainsaw does not develop momentum?

You ask, what’s the first one? The answer is a silencer. The silencer is responsible for exhaust emissions and extinguishing flames in them. At a normal ratio of the amount of gasoline to the amount of oil, the combustion products are not saturated with soot enough to clog the muffler. In the event that the amount of oil is more than the norm, an excessive carbon deposit is formed during its combustion. How to check the muffler?

Important: at the time of tightening the nuts mounting the muffler, do not over-pull the nuts, because the thread on the screws can be broken.
The second reason why the engine of a Stihl chainsaw can reduce power and not develop speed is a blockage in the fuel system. As a rule, the first place to start the search for clogging is the fuel filter.

Fuel filter check.

The fuel filter is installed in the tank of the Stihl 180 chainsaw, and it is not very convenient to pull it out. To facilitate the process, you can take a small piece of aluminum wire and bend it at the end, then with the help of it hook on the fuel hose and remove it with the filter from the tank. To test the filter, it must be blown into it, if the air does not pass, then a reason is found, and the filter must be replaced.
If the filter is clean, check the fuel hose for blockage. To check it is necessary to disconnect it from the carburetor and with the air filter removed, blow it into it. If a blockage is detected, the hose can be cleaned mechanically, with a wire, and then purged with compressed air.

In order to clean the strainer, it is necessary to remove the carburetor from the Stihl 180 chainsaw. The work begins with the fact that the top cover of the saw is removed, after which, with the aid of a head 8 mm, two fastening nuts are unscrewed. Further, the filter housing is removed from the guides, after which the thrust of the air damper and the engine control lever are disconnected. The fuel hose and the throttle rod are disconnected last, after which the carburetor can be removed from the guides.
The carburetor screen filter is installed in the fuel pump chamber, in order to get to it, one screw is fastened securing the pump cover and it, together with the gaskets, is retracted.
Clean the strainer, only with compressed air. Any mechanical methods are strictly prohibited, since the mesh is very soft and easily changes shape. When you press it, it is easily crushed and bends form along the edge of the seat, through which non-filtered fuel can enter the carburetor.
In the process of cleaning, the seat with the filter installed in it must be half covered with a finger and only after that blow air, otherwise, the grid can fly away and find it will not work.

Depressurization of the carburetor and injector clogging.

Sometimes, when the carburetor cover fastening screws are loosened or the gaskets become unusable, a power loss can also be observed on the chainsaw, in order to eliminate the possibility of this failure, it is necessary to check the integrity of the gaskets and tighten the screws on the carburetor covers. To do this, remove it from the engine (the algorithm is described above) and disassemble. Defective gaskets must be replaced using spare parts from the Stihl MS 180 carburetor repair kit.
In the case where a complete check of the fuel supply and exhaust system is carried out, but there are no results. Check the main fuel injector valve. To check, you need to knock it out of the body of the carburetor.

All work should be carried out according to the following algorithm:

  1. The carburetor is removed from the chainsaw.
  2. The four screws fastening the cover with the compensator unscrew, after which the cover can be removed.
  3. The carburetor is installed on a wooden lining, after which with the help of a bolt with a diameter of no more than eight millimeters and a length of 50, it is knocked out into the internal cavity of the carburetor.
  4. Next, you need to pick up a small hose whose inner diameter corresponds to or slightly less than the outer diameter of the nozzle and put it on the nozzle.
  5. The next step is to blow the inside of the hose. If it is blown only in one direction, the nozzle is intact, if it does not bleed at all, or at all, then the valve must be replaced.

Why a chainsaw doesn’t slow down?
