Trimmer Stalls: Causes And Troubleshooting.

A trimmer is a mobile high-performance tool for upgrading personal plots and surrounding areas. During long-term operation due to wear of parts or manufacturing faults, malfunctions arise that lead to the fact that the trimmer stalls or does not start. Since this tool is quite a complicated mechanism, there can be several reasons why the trimmer stalls.

Why does the trimmer stalls?

There are two main ways of troubleshooting: transferring the spit to a specialized center or solving the issue yourself. The first option is suitable for those who are willing to lay out a “tidy” amount to restore the unit to work, and the second one is for someone who has basic plumbing skills and can independently deal with the causes of breakdowns and how to fix them.

At present, it is customary to classify breakdowns, according to which the gas mower stalls, into the following categories:

  • mechanical damage to the crankcase of the internal combustion engine, malfunction of the cylinder-piston group (CPG);
  • breakdowns associated with the supply of the fuel mixture (air filter, carburetor);
  • malfunctions due to damage to tubes, hoses, cables or ignition circuit.

The trimmer stalls when you press the gas.

As practice shows, in most cases, the reason for stopping the engine is the misalignment of the carburetor associated with prolonged storage or operation of the tool in aggressive environments (temperature changes, high humidity, dust), high loads or wear of individual parts. The typical signs of the need to tune the carburetor include increased vibration. If you have experience in repairing the fuel system of gasoline engines, you can eliminate the problem without any special problems; otherwise, you can familiarize yourself with detailed instructions for setting up a carburetor.
The second of the possible reasons why the trimmer stalls when you press the gas, is clogged holes in the fuel tank lid (breather). When small particles of dust, grass and sand remain in it, a vacuum is created in the gas tank, as a result of which the fuel stops flowing into the carburetor. The trimmer’s breather can be cleaned with a regular sewing needle and then purged with compressed air. Experts recommend at the end of the work once a few mowings to clean the breather. If it is impossible to clean the cover, it is necessary to replace it.
With a similar problem, you should pay attention to the fuel valve, which, when clogged, ceases to pass the fuel mixture normally. By solving this fault is to weaken it with a suitable tool. Besides, the problem with the circulation of the fuel mixture may be covered in the contaminated valve. It is enough to blow it with a stream of compressed air.

Trimmer stalls at high engine speeds.

During operation, a situation arises when, when you press the fuel supply button, the engine speed does not increase, but decreases. A fault of this nature can be caused by:

Fuel hoses of the trimmer with filter:

  • etching atmospheric air into the combustion chamber;
  • problems with the circulation of the fuel mixture;
  • clogging of the breather in the fuel tank cap (cleaning the hole with a thin sewing needle);
  • improper carburetor adjustment.

When air leaks during the operation of the internal combustion engine, it is necessary to check the tightness of the connection of the pipes and the integrity of the gaskets in the central gas cylinder. The problem with the circulation of the fuel mixture can be solved by eliminating blockages in the fuel pipes leading to the carburetor. If a vacuum occurs in the tank and the fuel mixture does not flow to the carburetor, it is enough to clean the breather with a thin needle and blow it with air.

Petrol trimmer stalls at idle.

Often, when the engine is slowing down, the motor of the mowers is stalled, and when restarted it does not support idle speeds. The main reasons for the occurrence of such a breakdown include pollution or misalignment of the carburetor, as well as clogging of the air filter.
In case of violation of the optimal settings of the carburetor, it is necessary to clean it and re-adjust it. Clogging the trimmer air filter can be handled by placing it in a solution for several hours with ordinary household detergent. If self-cleaning did not help to cope with the blockage, it is better to purchase a new filter element following the instruction manual.
After the events, the user will not be confronted for a long time with the situation when the trimmer stalls at idle and functions only when the gas is supplied.
