What kind of gasoline should you put in your chainsaw?
Manufacturers strongly recommend using only high-quality gasoline for chainsaws, with an octane rating of at least 92 and an ethanol content of no more than 10%. It is not recommended to use opaque gasoline, which has impurities, they will quickly clog the fuel system and engine.
IMPORTANT: it is not necessary to prepare the gasoline mixture for the chainsaw just before pouring into the tank, this can be done in advance. over, many manufacturers produce ready-made containers with several compartments, for example, for gasoline and oil or gasoline, oil and ready-mixed, and also complete such containers with a special measuring syringe. With its help, oil is collected in the chainsaw in the proportion that is required. But if the mixture is prepared in advance, then the maximum storage period should not exceed 10 days over time, the octane number of gasoline decreases, and due to the fact that part of the gasoline from the mixture evaporates, the proportion of oil and gasoline for the chainsaw changes.

The reason is very simple for two-stroke engines, which are installed on chainsaws, there is no separate lubrication system. It is necessary to dilute the gasoline for the chainsaw with engine oil in a special proportion.
The device of the gasoline engine for chainsaws
Chainsaws, like most other similar equipment, use two-stroke internal combustion engines. Their main advantage over four-stroke engines used in automobiles is the fact that for 2-stroke engines it is possible to remove power one and a half times more with the same volume. But there are also disadvantages. Chainsaw oil must be added directly to the fuel tank, which increases oil consumption. As a result, the mixture of oil and gasoline during combustion in the working chamber turns into oil mist, which settles on the cylinder walls and lubricates the elements of the connecting rod and piston group.
Oil for 2-stroke chainsaw engines is diluted in a certain proportion with gasoline and poured into the tank. When the gasoline in the tank runs out, it is necessary to prepare a new mixture. At the same time, you cannot use car oil in a chainsaw, you cannot require a special oil for two-stroke engines.
Fuel mixture: the proportion of oil and gasoline for the chainsaw
The chainsaw engine is the heart of the tool, so it is very important to use a properly prepared fuel mixture.

As for the proportions of petrol-oil mixture, then everything is simple: you need to follow the instructions for the tool. All manufacturers of chainsaws indicate the required ratio in the instruction manual or in the passport of the tool, in addition, the proportions for refueling the chainsaw may differ depending on the model of the chain saw. As a rule, the proportion of oil and gasoline to a chainsaw of famous manufacturers is a ratio of 1:40 or 1:50, which means 1 part of oil for, for example, 40 parts of gasoline. Now arithmetic 1 liter of gasoline = 1000 ml of gasoline, divide by 40 and we get 25ml of oil. If you follow the same steps for the ratio 1:50, then we get 20 ml of oil per 1 liter of gasoline. As for budget chainsaws made in China, the situation is slightly different. The ratio of gasoline to chainsaw oil made in China 1:25, that is, divide 1000 ml of gasoline by 25, we get 40 ml of oil. The thing is that in branded chainsaws, a solid assembly and the distance between pistons and cylinders in the engine is much less than that of Chinese chainsaws, therefore, the required amount of oil differs almost twice.
Use a conventional medical syringe with sufficient volume to measure the correct amount of oil.

The fact is that the oil on the market now is not synthetic, but organic, that is, natural. After 10 days, all lubricating properties are lost, gasoline simply eats up the oil. At the end of the work, it is necessary to drain the fuel mixture, start the chainsaw, the tool will stall (so that the saw has a dry carburetor) and now you can leave it until the next operation.

Accurate data is obtained only after the complete disassembly of the mechanism. If the piston is chipped or scratched, it must be replaced. The piston ring must be clean, free of carbon deposits, and be exactly in place.

Fuel may not enter the cylinder for the following reasons:
- Dirty fuel filter. Remove the fuel hose and check how the fuel flows. If the jet is weak, the filter may need to be cleaned. It is taken out through the filler hole of the fuel tank and cleaned; in case of severe contamination, it is replaced with a new one. As a preventive measure, it is recommended to replace the fuel filter every three months.
- Clogged breather (holes in the fuel tank cap). Check also by disconnecting the hose, in case of blockage, clean it with a needle.
- Lack or insufficient amount of fuel. There may be several reasons for the malfunction. The first reason is the clogged air filter. Air ceases to flow into the carburetor in the required amount, in this regard, due to a too rich fuel mixture, the engine’s operation is disrupted. The contaminated filter is carefully removed, cleaned and rinsed in water, then dried and reinstalled.
Another reason is the improper adjustment of the carburetor. The adjustment is made with three screws.

Many motorists regularly monitor their car’s exhaust emissions. After all, its color indicates many malfunctions in the operation of the car’s power unit. So, for example, a gray or bluish color of the exhaust indicates an overconsumption of oil, an increased vapor content about the ingress of antifreeze into the combustion chamber, etc. The greatest excitement for most drivers is caused by the situation when oil flows from the muffler. Indeed, even logically, this symptom is a harbinger of serious problems with the power unit.
Oil leaks from the muffler. Why? What to do?
So, first you need to accurately determine whether oil is flowing from the exhaust pipe of the car. Indeed, drops of condensate with soot or oily deposits may well be taken as oil drops. To determine the nature of the droplets, a white blank sheet of paper must be placed at the exhaust pipe of a running machine. In this case, the experiment is best carried out on a heated motor.
After drops get on it, you need to remove the sheet and dry it. If the liquid dries up without visible traces, then most likely there is no point in worrying, because the drops are condensation. If greasy marks remain on the sheet of paper, then the worst suspicions have come true from the exhaust pipe oil flows.
What could be the reasons for this phenomenon? And what are the consequences?
Most often, oil mixed with fuel flows from the muffler. A similar phenomenon can be a consequence of the failure of the oil scraper rings of the pistons or the oil scraper seals on the valves of one of the cylinders of the power unit. In this case, to determine the root cause of the malfunction, it is necessary to unscrew the spark plugs.
The broken part from the cylinder will be splashed with oil. It will be on the thread of the candle. And the fuel, together with the existing oil, enters the exhaust manifold. That is, in this case, fuel combustion does not occur in one of the cylinders of the power unit. Therefore, the unburned oil, along with the fuel, is thrown out through the muffler of the car.
If oil is leaking from the muffler, then for additional express diagnostics, you can try to remove the oil dipstick while the engine is running. If, in this case, blue smoke comes out of its hole, then, most likely, the rings are out of order or lay down. There may also be a critical depletion in the engine cylinders. If there is no smoke, then it may be necessary to replace the valve stem seals.
There are several possible methods to eliminate possible piston rings. You can try adding appropriate additives to the fuel. In addition, there are funds that are poured into the holes of the unscrewed spark plugs. Although, not in all cases, these tools are able to help.
In all other situations, you cannot do without disassembling the power unit. To begin with, you can try to dismantle the cylinder head and measure their diameters. Indeed, they may contain ellipticity, which can only be eliminated by liner or boring of the cylinder block. And these operations are not cheap. And they cannot be implemented independently without the appropriate equipment.
After the implementation of these procedures, it will naturally be necessary to replace the piston group, which also translates into quite serious amounts.
In general, in most cases, when oil flows from the muffler, the result of this trouble is a complete overhaul of the power unit.
If we are talking about a fairly new car, then it makes sense to carry out this procedure, although it is not cheap. If the car is old enough, then it may make sense to find a live used power unit with a normal level of wear to replace the old one. This option will cost less than repairing your own motor.
