Hey guys. Looking to buy a new bad boy mz magnum. The mower is significantly cheaper at TSC than the dealerships, but I’ve heard several people say not to buy mowers from TSC, and every review I see from people buying them there is only 1-2 stars. I was wondering why exactly it is so bad to buy from there! Thanks!
I have never seen a Tractor Supply with a service dept., or a parts dept. Oh, by the way, how do they handle your warranty work? Do you think your local Badboy dealer, who has been undercut by TSC, is going to be in any kind of hurry to help you? These are all good reasons not to buy a mower at TSC.

The servicing dealer is (to me) a major component in a lawn maintenance service. Sure, a bad boy dealer should take care of it, but you may find yourself on a waiting list to get it fixed. I have two cat diesel bad boys, my guy here in Oklahoma, Tractor Bob, is top notch! Any service work is taken care of immediately, if a part is not in stock, its taken off a mower there and put on mine, then replaced thru their ordering system. I am humbled with that level of service. I am not sure if a TSC can do that! My.02 Jeff

Reguardless of where you buy it all BadBoy dealers will service it and do warranty work on it.
The mower appears to be well built, so it wont likley give much trouble when its new. But as I say the engine and hydros are Not Commerical grade and will likley fail with a couple years of commerical use.

It wasn’t until I recently had to return something that I took notice of their return policy on my receipt. Unlike many retail stores, the receipt didn’t stipulate their return policy but rather directed me to their website. I thought this was odd and thus the idea for this article was born. How Many Return Days Does Tractor Supply Give Me?
You have 30 days from date of purchase to bring items back for a full refund to your original form of payment.
If you want a full refund, YES, hold on to your receipt.
If you DON’T have your receipt you can typically still get store credit for the current selling price of the item.
Be prepared to show a valid photo I.D. as they use the information to track your returns so you don’t abuse the policy.
If Tractor Supply suspects you of making too many “no receipt” returns they can deny all future returns.

Can I Return a Chainsaw That I Used?
I couldn’t find an answer to this question on the TSC website so I called them directly.
After being put on hold several times, I was finally told that YES I could return the chainsaw even if I used it a couple times, as long as I was still within the 30 days.
But…they asked me if the chainsaw was still in good shape.
So I’m guessing that if you “use and abuse” a chainsaw then try to bring it back on day 29 it might not go over so well.
In the end, it will be left to the manager’s discretion on whether or not they’ll take it back.
Can I Return a Generator After a Storm?
This question is similar to the chainsaw example above.
If the generator has something wrong with it, they’ll take it back no questions asked within 30 days.
But if you use it for days on end during a hurricane then decide to return it, your mileage will vary from store to store on whether they’ll take it back.
Bottom-line, don’t abuse the fairly generous Tractor Supply return policy or they’ll eventually be forced to make it stricter when it comes to big-ticket used items.
Can I Return Baby Chicks…Dead or Alive?
Returning baby chicks is at the discretion of the manager at individual stores.
As a general rule, TSC will work with you if you take home a baby chick that gets sick or dies shortly thereafter.
Meaning most managers will refund your money or do an even “chick exchange” if a chick croaks.
Call the store as soon as you notice that a chick is not healthy in case others are having a similar problem.
Also, don’t bring the sick (or dead) chick back to the store as you run the risk of infecting other birds.
Can I Return Worn Apparel or Boots?
This is a great question so I call TSC and asked.
I told the rep that “I bought a pair of work boots last week, wore them a couple days and they gave me blisters…can I return them?”
I got an immediate, “Yep, as long as you still have the receipt and bought them within the past 30 days”.
I then asked about clothing and hats and was told the same thing.
Keep in mind that they’re tracking your returns so I wouldn’t overuse this generous policy.
Can I Return a Gift from TSC?
If you have the gift receipt…absolutely.
If you don’t have the gift receipt you can usually still return it and get store credit for the lowest price of the item in the past 60 days.
It’s definitely up to the manager’s discretion but worth a shot, otherwise your best bet is to sell it on eBay.

Bought a game camara wouldn’t upgrade, tsc wouldn’t refund longer than 30 days. First time ever for refund.
I purchased a pair of boots on sale went back next day to exchange for a different size same style boot and they went off sale that morning and they made me pay the different in price just for exchanging them for another identical pair just different size. That’s not right to do a customer like that. The Store is number 2420 Henderson Tenn.
That is wrong of them. Tractor Supply has bad customer service. I BOUGHT dog food yesterday and the store manager was at the register he was saying there are people that have dog then there are people that like dog then there are people that sleep woth their dogs this food your buying is for sleep with dogs. I didn’t for this. The price on every shelf for this dog food was the same but it rang up 6 higher he said all that crap after I said that is not price it says so I went asked a store representative who said she had to lock something anyway she aaid the price probably changed…it is the law anyway I got the food abd my dogs wouldn’t eat it. I returned it all I we eat to get a different brand of food many bags were cut open anyway the assistant manager told me I couldn’t return dog food just because my dogs won’t eat it. I said I asked before buying… so I looked up policy it say yes can return these people are rude and what an awful place sad because they have lots of nice stuff…

I just brought a 8000 watt dual fuel generator from Tractor Supply two days ago in store and had it delivered. Joshua was great and set up the delivery which arrived next day at my house. However upon setting it up today instead of last night in the dark, i found that the carburetor was spaying gas all over and shut it off. I called the store to complain and tell them this was defective and a danger to use. I took pictures while it was running before shutting off. I got the day manager Chuck who refused to come out and pick up the defective unit and was told if you can get it here to the store they would refund my money. I have a car and explained that i had it delivered to my house because it was too big for a car. Chuck basically said not his problem and i should have brought a warranty on this. I explained that this was brand new and only was two days old right out of the box. Chuck then said he found another one in a store about an hour away but he would not have them hold it and i would have to pick that up there as well as bring the defective one back to the Rome location. I also called customer service and that is just a recording as no one there until after Monday. Chuck’s customer service was terrible and he also stated he had no power in the store. For a big store it seems funny with no back up generator when you sell them. long story short, i will be returning this defective unit and will be making a complaint to customer service. What if this unit blew up on me? Product safety and customer service is not what it used to be anymore!

Toro mowers have garnered more recommendations from us than any other brand for two reasons: build quality and cut quality. These were amply demonstrated in our testing as the Recycler turned in the best ratio of cut area per amp-hour of battery in the self-propelled category, while at the same time not skimping on cutting, mulching, or bagging quality.
We attribute this outstanding mower performance to three features, all upgrades to the previous version of this machine. First, the air vent at the front of the mower deck seems to improve mulching and bagging performance. Toro calls it Vortex technology, a design that increases air flow under the deck. This helps to stand the grass for a cleaner cut, which improves mulching performance, and also allows better airflow into the bag when collecting the clippings.
Next, the company’s redesigned “Atomic” blade configuration appears to assist the air flow and clipping movement. Finally, the three-phase, 60-volt motor is exceptionally efficient, resulting in a large cut area for a single battery.
Toro has maintained features that make this mower work: rear wheel drive, a one-piece deck that’s all steel (no plastic nose), 11-inch wheels to help it roll over roots and crevices, and the same fold-forward handle that was an industry breakthrough when it was introduced some years ago.

This is one of Ryobi’s top-of-the-line mowers, and it’s American-made construction is something we wish we saw more of. It delivers a tremendous cut area with its two 6-Ah batteries providing a total of 12-Ah of capacity, and its X-shaped blade leaves a pristine surface in its wake.
Ryobi estimates the design should provide 70 minutes of run time; we didn’t time our cut, but it strikes as plausible. Its rear-wheel drive and reasonably aggressive tire tread pattern provide good hill climbing and sidehill cutting performance, and its bagging on all surfaces (level, sidehill, and uphill) is also commendable.
Other ease-of-use features include an easily installed or removed bag that mounts and dismounts straight up and down through the handle; deck adjustment is quick and easy thanks to a single-level deck height adjustment. The straight edge deck is polypropylene; it will never rust and needs very little care other than basic cleaning.
Toro TimeMaster 30 in. Briggs Stratton Personal Pace
The Toro Timemaster 30-in. mower has been around for several years and has earned a reputation as a sturdy workhorse for homeowners who want to cut down on their mowing time. It’s also used by some professionals as well. A few years ago the Timemaster got a slightly more powerful Briggs and Stratton gas engine, so it should have no issues powering through most demanding mowing jobs.
The Timemaster is rear-wheel drive and features Toro’s Personal Pace drive system that’s used on many of its self-propelled mowers. This allows the mower to move at your speed by simply pushing down or releasing the handle, which is spring-tensioned.
With a 30-in. deck, Toro claims the Timemaster will help you reduce your mowing time by about 40% compared to using a standard-sized mower. You can mulch, back, or side discharge with the Timemaster, and the handlebar can be locked in a fully vertical position to reduce space consumption in storage.
If you have half an acre to a full acre of lawn to mow and prefer the experience of a walk-behind mower versus a tractor or zero-turn, the Timemaster is worth a look.
Craftsman mowers have been doing very well in our tests, so we can recommend this one because it’s so much like the many other of the brand’s models that we’ve tested. If you’re looking for a good blend of maneuverability and power, you’ll get it with this mower. Its front drive helps move it along and makes it easy to turn.
It’s important to note that front-drive mowers do lose some traction when running uphill, particularly with a full grass bag. But if your slope is less than 20 degrees, and you’re not bagging uphill, you’ll be fine. The side discharge will also help you handle tall grass. Adjust the two deck levers to bring the mower up to full height and have at the rough stuff.
The fact that this mower bags, mulches, and side discharges is a plus, enabling you to handle a wide range of mowing conditions, from early spring and late into the fall. Three-function mowers like this are our preference for that versatility.
Key Specs
This is a beauty of a mower, with a cast-aluminum deck and a smooth-running Briggs Stratton 163-cc engine. We tested the Honda engine-equipped version, and it was effective at both bagging and mulching, even in moist grass.
Equipped with rear-wheel drive and the Personal Pace system (the farther you push the drive bar, the faster the mower goes), it’s an effective hill climber and moderately effective on sidehill cutting. It has relatively small 7.5-inch tires on all four corners, which causes this Toro to bump up and down a bit on washboard surfaces. But the good news is that it’s equipped with a far higher quality tire than we’re used to seeing these days. We didn’t notice them pick up any grass on moist surfaces.
Other features we like include its forward-fold handle that has a built-in shock absorber that Toro calls a Flex Handle Suspension, and a high-quality grass bag that loads through the handle, from the top.

Are there special maintenance considerations with self-propelled mowers?
Yes. Both front- and rear-wheel drive mowers typically feature a drive belt, which can crack or wear out over time. Fortunately these belts are not difficult or particularly expensive to replace.
Secondly, you may have to replace the drive wheels occasionally. These wheels are driven with gears. there are typically teeth on the inside diameter of the drive wheel that line up with a gear on the axle. These teeth can wear out, especially if they are made of plastic. Higher-end mowers may feature drive wheels with a metal gear that meets the metal axle gear, which improves longevity of these components.
My lawnmower says I don’t ever have to change the oil, but just add oil when needed. Is this OK?
It’s not a good idea to never change the oil in your lawn mower. In a lawn mower, same as a car, oil degrades over time and is less effective at reducing heat and friction in metal components. Changing the oil in your lawn mower is easy to do and will significantly increase its service life. For most homeowners, changing the oil at the beginning or end of each mowing season should be sufficient, though there is certainly no harm in doing it more often.
