It’s not a complicated job to attach a snowthrower to your Craftsman, Husqvarna, Ariens, Poulan or Jonserd Tractors. This is just a quick article going through where to get the snow blowers and a spare copy of the manual. It takes about 2 hours the first time and 30 minutes after that.

Here is a chart that lists Craftsman tractors. Any tractor that lists a snow blower other than the 24837/25840 needs the adapter kit above.

Husqvarna also has a specific snow thrower. It is built by the same company for them as the Craftsman snow blowers.

Hello.cool info here ! Still confused as.well you know. I have a craftsman GT6000.944.605290…mfg1995 Is the 48624846(X) the only one that will fit?

Hi Vance, There are no cross-reference charts for Sears Ca. tractors so I can’t say for sure – BUT that’s one of the first 486 snowblowers. The 46 inch was only used until 2003 and there were no other snowblowers sold for the Craftsman GT tractor during that time.

Looking to upgrade my old craftsman tractor to a new Husqvarna. Have a craftsman snow blower model 486.248381 that still works. (Its12 years old) Wondering your experiences with putting old blower on new tractor and if it’s at all possible. Also any does or don’t would be appreciated.

Hi Matthew, Husqvarna has their own snowblowers and Craftsman had their own snowblowers. Even though they were probably the same, no one has ever made a cross-reference chart to see if a Craftsman will fit on a Husqvarna. On top of that, since Husqvarna completely redesigned their tractors this year we don’t know if ANY old equipment will mount to the new frame. In addition, was the snowblower mounted on a tractor with one center rod that attached the deck to the tractor, or were there two rods that went to the deck on the front of the tractor. If there was one rod there might be a chance it might fit – but – if there are two rods then it WILL NOT fit. (the snowblower originally came with both types of mounts but most people threw away the mounts they didn’t use.) Here is a link to the snowblower manual to explain this more: I have no access to any information on the Canadian Craftsman products. Sears.ca always had a tight lid on any info including parts and operator’s manuals. When they closed their doors it disappeared. That said,The tractor was made by Husqvarna

Thanks for quick response Paul. Next question. is my older snowblower still compatible with a newer craftsman. Almost feel like I should just get new blower with new tractor not sure of life expectancies of a snowblower it is 12 years old not sure how much longer it’ll last. Live in northern Michigan so machine gets used frequently during winter months. Just looking for friendly opinion. Thanks in advance Matthew

Hi Matthew, The Sears Craftsman made after 2015 and the current Craftsman now owned by Stanley, Black Decker are all made by MTD. The Sears model number prefix is 247. So your snowblower will not fit any of them. You snowblower only fits Craftsman tractors with the 917 prefix and I recommend only attaching one to a garden tractor style.

Joseph R Eisch

I have a 2017 gth52xls Husqvarna tractor. I’m looking to find what used craftsman snow blower will fit. There are some for sale and will not buy unless I know they fit. Help?

Hi Joeseph, There are no cross reference charts for that. Craftsman only fit Craftsman and Husqvarna had their own snowblowers also.

Bob Witte

Hi Paul, Thanks for getting back to me. it is the big mystery as I have found as well. The frame mounts are identical as well as the mounting brackets for the snow blower. The issue is the transfer case mount at the drive pedal assembly. I think i have the fix to make it work. I have the latest latest fit kit (after 2006) and a slight modification to the mounting bracket should do the trick. I’ll keep you posted.

Hi Paul I’ve got a craftsman pro series 7800 built by mtd I’m not sure what snowblower to get can you help thanks

Hi Camden, No, I can’t help. The fit-up charts I have only have the Husqvarna built tractors listed. I don’t know where to send you other than try the guys over at mytractorforum.com

Hi Roger, The only snowblower that fits the Craftsman Tractors sold at Lowes is the snowblower sold at Lowes CRAFTSMAN 42-in Snow Thrower Item #1613873Model #CMX-GZ-BF-71-24837 You will also need the rear wright kit and rear tire chains.

Bob Witte

Hi Bob, I don’t know if Husqvarna changed their mounting positions on the new tractors – and there is no one who seems to know… That said, no one has a cross-reference for mounting one brands snow blower onto another brand. Your snowblower is pretty old. It originally came with two sets of mounts. One set for pre-2006 Craftsman and another set for post-2006. If you have the post-2006 mounts you can see if the bolt holes will line up on your new frame. If you need the manual you can get it here: Craftsman 486.248381

Kevin Steuerwald

Hi Kevin, The latest model Sears Craftsman (486 prefix) and the current Agri-Fab snow blowers (for Sears/Craftsman) fit your tractor. The Craftsman snowblowers sold at Lowes will not fit. I don’t know about Husqvarna 42 inch snow blowers. They have had quite a few different ones over the years and there are no conversion charts available to mount them on different brands of tractors.

hi paul. in have un poulan pro 2006 db24h42. and i have un snow blower mtd 190-624-000 …what is the front mounting kit i needÉ

Hi Dave, 1. They two products are not compatible. The Poulan Pro and the MTD are made by two separate companies. 2. I don’t remember Poulan Pro ever offering a snowblower attachment so there may not be any mounting holes in the frame for an Agri-Fab snow blower. 3. I suggest checking with a Poulan Pro dealer to see if there is a snow blower available.

Hi Paul. I have a 2005 Husqvarna GTH2754 and can not seem so pin down what snowblower attachment will fit. My model # is 96023000400. I am so tired of reading “this will not fit 2005 and older”. Please help and thank you in advance.

Craftsman Snow Blowers

Craftsman, a propriety brand at Sears, is well known for a wide range of hand tools, power tools, and outdoor equipment. In snow blowers, Craftsman offers a variety of models to suit all budgets and needs. The engine sizes range from 4 horsepower to a sturdy 11.5 horsepower with clearance paths from 21 inches to 30 inches. Craftsman snow blowers come in both professional and domestic use models.

In 1927, the Craftsman name and trademark was acquired by Sears. The first power tools hit the market in 1927, and in 1934, the first Craftsman lawn mower was produced. By the 1940s, Craftsman power tools and hand tools were being used throughout the US, including by the Forest Service and the military. In 2007, Craftsman celebrated its 80th anniversary as “the most trusted brand in America.”

Where to Buy

Craftsman snow blowers come equipped with the powerful Briggs and Stratton OHV engines that can handle 6″ to 23″ of snow. One of the more popular models is a 2-stage snow thrower with six forward speeds, two reverse speeds, and a one button electric starter. This model also boasts one-handed maneuverability and a folding handle for easy storage.

For professionals, three models offer clearance widths of 30″, 33″, and 45.” A 42″ lawn tractor snow thrower attachment is also available.

The Craftsman line of snow blowers can be difficult to track down. They re-brand their product based on which retail outlet is selling them. We’ve included the list that is available on the Craftsman.com website. All models are gas-powered. They are available in single-stage, two-stage, and the three-stage variety. Below you will find a listing broken down by how many stages they have.

I’m not being able to show the lean very well when it’s in the garage and when I put it in the driveway. the snow hides it as well. I’ll look to disengauge the lifter arm completely today and see if that sets it down all the way as well.

P.S. I’ve got the dozer blade attachment as well, but I don’t want to go through all of the hassle of removing the thrower if it’s a pain in the a and it looks like it probably is.

That unit is built by Agri-Fab for AYP (who builds the Craftsman tractors). We have sold a few of the 42″ model at work, and I installed them. The linkage is slightly different on your blower, but I do know on the 42″ model, there is a stop bolt you have to remove if installing the unit on a garden tractor rather than a lawn tractor. It would prevent the head from lowering far enough on the garden tractor if you left it in. If you can get the model number of the unit, it would help a great deal.

Removing the blower isn’t all that hard. Its usually just two pins up front and the blower drops off. There should be an undercarriage that mounts to the midpoint of the tractor that has the belt tensioner in it. The ones I’ve seen are chains with clips holding them tight. You pull out on the chain, remove the clip, and then release the chain to release the belt tension. Remove the belt for the blower from the pulley and lower the blower (use blocks if you can’t get it to touch the ground). Pull the pins and drop the blower off. To remove the undercarriage, pull the two retaining pins and drop the unit forward and down. Take the belt off the engine pulley, but leave it on the undercarriage pulley. Should take you 10 minutes total once you’ve done it a time or two.

jhngardener Country Boy, Appreciate the help so far. Below I’ve included the model numbers to all of the toys I was given (minus the cab awnings).

@Country Boy, To be clear, are you saying the stop bolt is on the thrower or blade?

I can’t see it clearly, but it looks as if the round bar at the bottom of the mount isn’t in the holes. It looks as if it would drop more if it were in the holes. (second picture, just to the right of the tire.)

I can’t see it clearly, but it looks as if the round bar at the bottom of the mount isn’t in the holes. It looks as if it would drop more if it were in the holes. (second picture, just to the right of the tire.)

I see that too, theres an J shaped slot that the mounting bracket is not in, on the right side(if your setting on tractor) You can’t see the J slot on the left side picture. It looks like a mounting problem to me. Do you see where the blower frame is supposed to fit in the J shaped slot of the tractor mounting bracket?(left side)

Country Boy

I was looking at that myself, and I’m not sure if its supposed to fit in there. That’s the bracket for mounting the mower deck. The blowers that I’ve mounted have a hook and hole in the bracket you bolt to the frame rail that holds the blower on. That rod by the slot you are seeing looks to be the pivot point for the blower linkage, rather than a mounting point. I could be wrong as the angle isn’t the greatest, but that’s what it looks like to me.

Yellow is the mounting bracket that gets bolted to the tractor frame rail. Red is the mount points for the blower on those brackets. Blue is where I think the issue lies. That’s the lock pin that locks the blower in the up position. It fits into a slot, and I think its maxing out its travel before the blower can reach all the way to the ground. Is that true? When you lower the blower, does that pin reach all the way to the top of the slot?

i will check that out. absolutely. I just found one of the potential problems. the belt on one side was outside of the keeper arm. but it went back in REALLY easy, so i do think perhaps the belt has been stretched (heat from the slippage?). ive heard of people putting rubber bars in the blower piece to keep from snow building up in there. I dont think thats my issue, seems there is only like a 1/4 inch gap in there. thoughts?

I think you are referring to an “impeller kit” which closes the gaps between the impeller fan blades and the blower housing. Your bad performance seems more related to your belt issues. MH

The PTO when engaged should take up all the slack in the belt. The belt may be available elsewhere. If you have your owner’s manual for the snoblower attachment, it should give you a part number for the belt. Or, the part number may be etched right on the belt itself. If you google that part number ie. “Sears snowblower belt 143-221-000” or the like, if there are aftermarket replacements they will pop up. Some will only use original equipment stuff to avoid bad fits. I have gambled and won. and also gambled and lost. MH

Being two years old I’d assume you have an electric PTO. Is yours electric or do you actually pull a lever to tension the belt ?? Need the model # of the tractor to “see” which you have.

You said you had a tensioner so I’m going with electric PTO. The tensioner should keep the belt tight at all times. The tensioner should be more to the middle of it’s travel at rest. If you’re checking it and it’s near the end of it’s travel or against a stop the belt is either the wrong size, something mechanical broke and is out of position or the belt is stretched beyond it’s useable limits.

The clearance modification might be a nice addition but first we need to get the blower spinning at the correct speed under load. If the belts slipping then adding those rubber paddles to tighten up the clearance inside the impeller housing isn’t going to help, it would only load and bog down worse.

dunginhawk

ok. just replaced the belt. went on easy enough. and adjusted the chain to have the proper setup (according to the manual). now the auger runs without the PTO even being engaged, and the belt above that one seems to rubbing and burning. more trouble than its worth

should i let out the tensioner chain a bit? so that the Auger stops spinning they re. assess? im just going by the manual. but i guess that tensioner chain is there for a reason.

Kiss4aFrog

“now the auger runs without the PTO even being engaged” Ok, if that happened you have a manual PTO that needs to be tensioned to get the power to the blower.

What is the model number of the tractor ?? The one you’d use to order parts.

The belt above. Are you talking about the belt that drives the transmission ?? Have you checked to see it’s on all the pulleys correctly and that you don’t have a bearing in an idler that has seized and the belt is sliding on it instead of it turning ??

Any chance you can post some photos of the belts ??

dunginhawk

so here goes. I havent checked the pulleys. because when it was tensioned oddly (im guessing) everything was running, and blowing snow (then the blower belt came off)

1, I replaced the belt with B111 (a very commmon belt used by a TON of people when the sears one breaks) 2. Model of tractor is a YT4000. 3. So after i put on the new belt, set the tensioner where the manual says to set it. It automatically engaged the auger/blower without engaging the PTO. 4. I think there was a misaligned belt on the main tractor unit, because it smoked and melted some. so that happened. 5. I believe craftsman gives a spare belt (it looked identical). so i replaced the burnt one with the spare (im hoping its right). 6. With the unit now with new belts, and on the correct paths (as far as I can see) now the main flywheel from the engine is spinning and the upper belt (not the thrower belt) is just spinning on that wheel and not engaging. Its a bit floppy, and not taught.

So thats where I am currently. Its possible that the new belt is not the right size, although it looks like it. I will say. it operated ok (just bogged down under heavy load) with the belt missing one of its guides (the belt connected to engine flywheel).

I will try to get some pictures here soon. any ideas?

EDIT. it seems as if when i engage the PTO now with the belts correct (i think) that it isnt putting enough tension on the belt to engage the wheel. There is no way to modify the PTO cable though.
