We use a selection of different couriers to suit the requirements of the varying weight, dimensions and delivery locations and services required for each order, and as such it is not always possible to provide a tracking number for deliveries. Bosch Manual Lawn Mower Review

If your lawn is fairly small, and if you’re prepared to take the time to set it up properly, a manual mower can be just as effective if not more so than an electric or petrol equivalent. This is a high quality example from Bosch and one that will allow you to get the most from the manual mowing experience.

First off, consider the sheer convenience that a manual lawn mower provides. You don’t have to worry about messy and dirty petrol, the cost of electricity, or having a lead trailing around behind you. It’s lightweight and it’s quiet, and it can even provide lawn stripes thanks to its integral roller.

It’s important to take the time to ensure that the cutting mechanism of a cylinder mower is set up correctly, and this hand driven example is no different. The blades have to act on the corresponding cutting plate closely much like a pair of scissors, then as long as the blades are sharp they will produce a superior cut to any powered rotary blade.

As if to prove that this mower is up to the job of its powered big brothers it not only has a cutting width similar to many of them at 38cm, but also a 25 litre grass box showing just how much use it’s designed to be put through, so really the only limiting factor is the patience of the person pushing it around!

As manual lawn mowers go this mower is about as good as it gets. With the correct set up and adjustment, and of course proper care (keeping the blades properly sharpened is a must) this mower will behave exactly as promised, every time. One definite word of caution, if the setup is not correct, the blades not sharpened, and moving parts are not kept properly lubricated, it could put undue stress on the gearing mechanism that transfers power to the cutting blade causing the gears to jam and warp.

As this is my first lawn mower review, I am starting with a budget lawn mower that will give a good clean cut, and leaves a nice striped finish. Best of all it is the most environmentally friendly type of lawn mower you can buy, only requiring some physical energy to push it.

With the price of fuel and electricity ever increasing, and an increasing awareness of environmental issues, this type of mower should be the first one to be considered when looking at a new purchase!

A cylinder hand pushed mower would be my preferred option for anyone looking for a good quality lawn at a budget price.

OVERVIEW

This Bosch lawnmower (find it here)is very well made overall, only to be expected from a well respected manufacturer like Bosch. The cylinder has five blades, which gives a reasonably fine cut. It is thirty eight centimetre wide, which covers the ground fairly quickly. but is very easy to control around tight corners and obstacles. The rear roller gives a striped finish, and the rolling action helps to control moss and thatch. The only downside being that the roller is narrower than the wheels, making it difficult to cut close to edges.

The grass box has a reasonable twenty five litre holding capacity, but is the only downside in the mowers quality as it is light weight plastic, and is easily dislodged from its mountings on any uneven ground. Take note Bosch, this could be improved.

The high geared side wheels make the mower very easy to push, so not to tiring even on slopes or decent sized lawns. The cutting height is variable from 15 mm to 43 mm, which I would consider to be a good range to cover most lawn owners requirements over the year.

Thanks to a padded handle it’s comfortable to push, although it did feel a little short for our taller tester, and it’s light and easy to manoeuvre around trees and beds and borders. There are five cutting heights to choose from, adjusted with the simple lift of a lever and it offers the choice of collecting clippings in the 30 litre fabric grass bag or inserting the mulching plug and leaving them on the lawn to break down and feed the grass. It mows well but doesn’t like very long grass, with the battery cutting out occasionally but its long lasting brushless motor offers a a decent run time of 46 minutes and it charges in two hours.
