Good afternoon, Back in 2020 I asked for some advice on a mower and I now am the owner of a Cub Cadet Pro Z154 S EFI. This happens to be a commercial model that has a steering wheel.

I am brand new to zero-turn mowers and had not driven any before about 15 months ago. I started looking at lap bar units and was even considering a joystick model that I was able to drive here locally but in the end, I thought the steering wheel would suit my family and I the best. About 1/3 of my property has a significant embankment from 15 to 30 degrees along the roadways which is on 3 sides of the property.

Some Background (some of it covered in the other post): Property Description ~2 acres pond ~2 acres homestead/ detached barn that is heavily landscaped ~5 acres open field (no trees) ~5 acres of field with over 100 trees / obstacles ~1 acres of trees with Bush Honeysuckles overrunning the land between them (cant be mowed at this time)

My field is not pristine, it is a mix of cool and warm weather grazing grasses and common weeds. The edges of the fields are rough due to the previous overgrowth, dead limbs that fell, and not being able to get my tractor in there to cut it previously.

15ish hour review.15 hours I have cut all 15 acres 2x times and the homestead 2 extra times. I have not sharpened the blades between cuts 1 full cut in dry grass. 1 full cut in wet grass after a rain the previous day that started to dry by the end of the cuttakes 7 gallons of gas to cut the 15 acres currently at my skill level, which is low.has cut every hill with no sense that there was a safety issue. no sliding. no feeling that it was going to overturn just felt secure to me as a beginner.Plenty of power, never struggled except in areas along the edges I had let grow to dormancy last year (3ft grass) and had leaf litter from the winter. It had to work through those areas It throws the clippings about 2x the width of the mowed path in dry grass. Meaning most clippings are 54-108 inches from the edge of the mower when they land It has an “Eversharp” cub cadet blade on it, I do not know how to confirm thatI read the Eversharps may not handle small sticks well and I have a good bit of those around the edges of the field. Mower cut the same at 15 hours as the 1st it seemed I have a set of Oregon G5’s I am going to try. I am worried my sticks will be too much for the Eversharps. So far so good though.

  • break-in oil change at about 7 hours was simple and easy.
  • The open areas can be cut as fast as the mower will go with no issues.
  • parts of my field have dandelions and it did well, most of the double cutting had to be done where the front tire runs over the dandelion that is seeding.
  • I have yet to tear the grass on a turn there is only one spot in the steering (not at full turn) that the inside tire doesn’t move a bit forward or backward depending on where you have the steering wheel

I write not to support the brand just to give people a review of what I own. I have not cut the acreage with any lap bars so I can’t comment on them but I really like the steering wheel controls. I do not think I would switch to lap bars unless I have an issue with Cub Cadet as a brand and at this time they have been great.

Synchro-Steer technology replaces traditional lap bars with a familiar steering wheel and a dual foot pedal control scheme, serving to create more stability on hills and providing optimal ease of use. Synchro-Steer technology also delivers greater efficiencies when mowing by reducing overlap and making it easier to create straight lines, the company reports. As a result, the Ultima ZTS mower offers one-hand operation with a soft-touch steering wheel, adjustable steering column and a premium cut-and-sewn high-back adjustable seat for a comfortable ride.

The Ultima ZTS joins the Ultima ZT and Ultima Electric ZT mowers, the latter two models featuring adjustable lap bar steering.

The Ultima Series offers two trim levels: the ZTS1 and ZTS2, with various deck size options: 42-, 46-, 50- and 54-in. decks. The ZTS2 mower provides maximum strength, comfort and durability with a premium engine, stronger transmission, a reinforced fabricated AeroForce deck, larger tires on stylized 10-in. rims and an adjustable high-back seat with armrests. The ZTS2 collection is the larger of the two models, with 50-, 54- and 60-in. deck sizes.
