Cub Cadet CC30 Review

What’s that yellow drive-around thingy? It’s always a Cub Cadet. Their bestselling rear riding mower, the Cub Cadet CC 30 is once again back in circulation. It seems towards the end of the last year, this particular model was removed from stock in all stores and the reason being that Cub Cadet unlike other manufacturers does not mindlessly make machines. They work with a limited quota. And after running out of stock, the Cub Cadet Factory begins producing their most demanded products again and again. And the CC30 model is thankfully one of them. 2015 starts with plenty of this rear rider in stock and the Cub Cadet CC 30 is once more among the top picks on all lawn and garden websites. One disclaimer before I begin diving into the nitty-gritty of my review – the Cub Cadet is probably one of the most expensive rear engine mowers on the market, but it is well worth every penny spent. And, with a price below 2000 it is still a very cheap riding mower.

In-Depth Review of the Cub Cadet Cc 30 Rear Rider

Ease Of Use

Easy to drive, the Cub Cadet CC 30 operates on a 6 speed transmission driven by a sturdy twin heavy-duty drive belt system. With quick response steering, this mower makes driving forward and backward rather simple and best of all, you don’t need any prior experience with riding mowers. Forward mowing speed of 4.25mph and reverse mowing speed of 4.25mph makes this little rider one of the fastest in the market.

Beware though, this Cub Cadet riding mower isn’t a nimble machine. It won’t offer a compact turning radius, but for its price it does a decent job mowing your yard. At around 18 inches of turning radius, if your lawn is long and straight with limited necessity of U-turns, it will suffice. Also remember, this is not a speedster, it is at best a decent free moving mower that goes faster than a conventional walk behind mower.

Cut Quality

Going uphill isn’t difficult, but don’t try your luck with anything over 15 degree inclination. As for wet grass, the rear rider does suffer a bit with its low powered engine so best to use it on dry yards. While I did not find any difference mowing tougher strains of grass, I advise against this riding mower if all you have is one particular type of grass in your lawn and it is of the tougher variant.

You get a total of 5 height adjustment positions and a single lever adjacent to the seat to make the changes. While I like seeing more than 7 height adjustment positions, 5 is fine as long as you don’t make a habit of skipping out on weekly mowing. Just be careful trying to change the height lever position as it can bend under the strain if you try it with the mower running.

Motor Power

At 420cc, the engine on this Cub Cadet CC 30 isn’t the largest or the most powerful, but it is ample enough for an average sized yard (anything near 1 acre). Cub Cadet packs in its own proprietary engine into this machine and the good thing about this is that a single warranty covers the mower and its engine. over, I feel the 30 inch deck receives sufficient power from the engine without eating away from the overall experience. After all, this rear rider can still operate over gradual inclines without any significant drop in performance. However, I have to point out that many of the other brands also use a 420cc OHV engine and yet manage to engineer a smoother and powerful performance from their mowers. Maybe Cub Cadet could have done the same here.

Probably the only area where this Cub Cadet falls short of the competition. The entire body is made from plastic and with every tiny bump you can literally feel the plastic bending in places. Unfortunately, availability of plastic spare parts for this machine at the moment are scarce so be careful riding over bumps and obstacles. As for warranty, it has a long 3 year cover on everything so your only real concern is if Cub Cadet has the replacement parts in stock.

Buyer’s Guide to Cub Cadet CC 30 H Rider

The Cub Cadet CC 30 H rider features a 382 cc Cub Cadet OHV engine and an exclusive telescoping steering column that allows you to easily adjust the size of the operator area, creating a more comfortable ride for all users. Its compact size allows you to maneuver through narrow spaces. The hydrostatic transmission makes operating the machine a breeze.

The Cub Cadet CC 30 H rider is a rear-engine mower. The advantage with the rear engine riders is it gives you exceptional visibility when you’re mowing, you’re not looking over the hood of an engine. These mowers are very comfortable to get on and off for a small rider. They have a hydrostatic drive transmission which is typically what you find on the larger lawn tractors. A foot pedal controls your forward and reverse drive, there’s no clutching or shifting.

The parking brake lever on the Cub Cadet CC 30 H rider makes it easy to lock your parking brake. Headlight comes standard on the Cub Cadet CC 30 H. This machine is great for you if you have a smaller lawn and maybe you just don’t want to walk anymore or if it’s too hard to walk around your lawn. It’s also a great option if you have a storage issue and just really don’t have enough space for the bigger lawn tractors. This mower has a 30-inch cutting deck so it’s small but it’s a considerate improvement over your typical 21- or 22-inch mower.

The Cub Cadet CC 30 H rider makes quick work of your lawn and are very comfortable to ride and operate. A single lever adjusts your mowing height. To engage your mower deck push forward and to disengage push back.

The Cub Cadet CC 30 H rider is also a good option for somebody that’s in-between a walk behind lawn mower and a lawn tractor or, like we mentioned, just needs a little more storage space. Also, another great feature is Cub Cadet’s patented SmartJet Deck Washing System. This mower is designed with a garden hose attachment right on the deck. Hook your garden hose on when you’re on the mower, fire up your hose and when you’re sitting on the seat turn on your mower deck and that water will propel around the deck to keep your deck clean and free of rust buildup. A clean mower deck promotes better cutting performance. That SmartJet Deck Washing System is a great feature on all Cub Cadet riding mowers and lawn tractors.
