How To Clean A Carburetor On A Stihl 180 Chainsaw

Ignition system

Almost all types of engine problems listed above can be caused by faulty ignition systems. If they occur, it is recommended to start troubleshooting with a candle. This is justified by the fact that its condition will also provide useful information about the functioning of the fuel system. If a problem occurs, remove the spark plug and inspect it.

When the spark plug is dry, then most likely the problem is not in the ignition system, but rather in the entry of the fuel mixture into the cylinder itself. You can wrap the spark plug back and grab the fuel system. When the spark plug is splashed with a fuel mixture, there is an excess of it. This can be caused by a misaligned carburetor or a violation of the starting rules. The spark plug must be wiped and dried, draining the cylinder, then shut off the fuel supply and operate the starter to remove excess fuel. After that, reinstall the plug and start again.

Perhaps, in your case, the ratio between gasoline and oil in the mixture is broken, the carburetor is not adjusted, or low-quality oil is used. Candle Rinse in gasoline, remove carbon deposits with a needle or an awl, clean the electrodes with fine sandpaper and reinstall. Even when repairing a Goodluck chainsaw with your own hands, which consists in checking the spark plug, there is good reason to believe that the faults are in the fuel system, you need to check the spark plug for the presence of a spark.

If there is no spark, you just need to replace the spark plug. The reasons for the absence of a spark can also be hidden in a failed ignition module or in violations of the gap between the flywheel magnetic circuit and it. The distance should be 0.2 millimeters. A gap violation is especially likely if, before that, you disassembled the saw from the ignition module and flywheel. The gap must be set using a gasket that is 0.2 mm thick placed between the ignition module and the flywheel boss. Defective ignition module must be replaced.

Cylinder-piston group

The most serious are damage to the cylinder-piston group of the chainsaw. This is the worn out piston and cylinder, scoring and scratches on their surface, sinking in the grooves of the piston ring and their wear, as well as wear of the crankshaft bearings. In the usual way, these malfunctions provoke a drop in the pressure level in the cylinder and the inability to start the engine in the future, or its inability to give full power.

There are several ways that help to assess the state of the cylinder-piston group. Remove the muffler and look out the window where you can see part of the side of the unit. Despite the limited overview, one can get a general understanding of the CPG.
Crankshaft Rotate by hand with a flexible shaft motor or starter, while checking the pressure on the pressure gauge.

In a workable chainsaw, the last indicator should be in the range of 0.8-0.9 MPa. With its fall, the power of the engine also decreases. At a pressure level of 5 atm, the engine can and will work, but at idle.

It will be possible to accurately assess the state of the CPG only after repairing the saw-free parterre with your own hands, which consists in disassembling the engine. disconnecting the crankcase from the cylinder and removing the piston. If the latter has seizures, deep scratches or chips, it must be replaced. If the cylinder surface is damaged or worn out, there is a chance to bore it to the repair size. Coking and piston ring wear are the reasons for low compression. Serviceable rings are always clean from carbon deposits, sit loosely in the piston groove and press tightly against its inner surface.

The section is devoted to motorized equipment for gardening, parks and earthworks. Here information is provided about the brands under which lawn mowers and tillers, chainsaws and cultivators are sold, everything that facilitates the work of summer residents, gardeners and communal workers. The equipment is subdivided into gasoline and electric (powered by accumulators and batteries as well). We have long been accustomed to tillers and cultivators; almost every second owner of a country house uses a chainsaw. In the section “Gardening equipment” you will find information about many other devices that will make your work pleasant and easy, and your site. an object to follow.

Trimmers. petrol or electricity powered lawn mowers are wheel and manual. The mower is one of the trimmer options, adapted only for a specific type of grass. The shredder converts debris and wood waste into a homogeneous mass for compost and mulching. A garden vacuum cleaner is useful both for cleaning areas covered with vegetation and for cleaning paved areas and paths. Any summer resident knows the purpose of a sprayer and an electric hoe, but many only guess what a verticutter and a scarifier are. The verticutter removes the dense top layer that forms on the soil in early spring and late autumn. Scarifier (another name is aerator), in addition to cleaning the packed layer, makes grooves in the soil. Information about where, how and under what brand all this is done is also in this section.

Types of chainsaw

A chainsaw is a tool that cuts wood with a closed chain and is equipped with a two-stroke gasoline internal combustion engine. The ability of the chain saw to operate continuously for a certain amount of time is the main distinguishing feature to which you should pay attention.

The main design units of a chainsaw are: a chainsaw tire, a chain and a gasoline engine, which drives the chain and tire. According to the scope and functionality of the chainsaw, they are divided into the following categories: professional, semi-professional and household amateur.

Amateur chainsaws are used mainly in everyday life, for garden work in the village or at their summer cottage. Such saws are very light in weight (3-4 kilograms without a chain and tire), in comparison with their own older brothers, their vibration is very low, which makes working with this device quite comfortable. Household chainsaws, first of all, are designed for a short period of use (about 5 hours a week), the motor power is small, but these disadvantages are compensated by ease of use. With the help of household chainsaws, most often summer residents do a little work. harvesting, firewood, cutting garden trees and pruning branches.

With a semi-professional chainsaw, you can easily perform a wider scope of work. here is the repair on your site in the felling. The time of continuous operation of such a saw is 2-3 hours per day. The power of the gasoline engine in semi-professional devices has been increased. It is possible to achieve maximum productivity by blocking trees with medium and small trunk diameters. Often semi-professional chainsaws are used for cutting knots. The only difference between such devices from professional ones is that they cannot be used continuously throughout the whole working day.

Professional chainsaws are mainly used in felling and in industry. The engine power of professional chainsaws is designed to cut trees of any size and diameter. These chainsaws are made of wear-resistant material and have a particularly strong chain, which allows you to work continuously for 8-16 hours.

Chainsaw malfunctions

All chainsaw breakdowns are conditionally divided into two groups: engine malfunctions with all its systems and components (fuel supply system, ignition, exhaust system, cylinder-piston group) and malfunctions of other components (lubrication system, clutch, tire, chain brake).

Violations in the functioning of chainsaw engines occur quite often, it is their correction and detection that takes users most of the time. They boil down mainly to the following manifestations: The engine does not start, the engine starts, but stalls or does not work at all, the engine does not develop power, that is, it works normally at idle, but stalls under load.

When repairing a Stihl chainsaw with your own hands, you must act by the method of exclusion. check all the Possible causes of breakdown one by one, starting with those whose diagnosis and elimination will take you less time.

Chain lubrication

Rare do-it-yourself Ural chainsaw repair manuals do without mentioning the breakdown of the chain lubrication system, which are quite common. They usually manifest themselves in insufficient supply or non-supply of lubricant to the chain and in the formation of oil leaks. If the chain is dry, first of all, it is necessary to inspect the channels through which oil is supplied to the tire and clean them. Driving them is NOT a rare occurrence.

If there is a significant leakage of oil (a small level of leakage is considered normal), it is recommended to check the tightness of the connection to the pump fitting of the pipes. They can crack or slump. In addition to smudges, a violation of the tightness of the oil line can also provoke insufficient lubrication of the chain. The pump will suck in air, which will definitely affect its performance. It is customary to eliminate such violations by sealing the tubes with a sealant or replacing them. The most serious malfunction of the lubrication system is cracks that form in the oil pump housing. It needs to be replaced in this case.

Chainsaw fine tuning

The exact adjustment to which the carburetor of the Ural chainsaw is subjected should be carried out only in a warm state, preferably by specialists with the necessary equipment. The order of adjusting the screws is as follows: first screw L, then H and finally the idle screw T.

First, the highest idle speed is determined. To do this, screw L is slowly turned and after the position of the Highest revolutions is found, the screw is turned by ¼ of a turn against the clock.

The H screw affects the power and speed, which the carburetor of the Stihl chainsaw has. It is necessary to warm up the engine at full speed for 10 seconds, return the screw ¼ of a turn against the clock. Let the engine run, and then check the maximum rpm with a tachometer.

Fine adjustment of the T screw is carried out with the engine running, the screw is turned clockwise until the saw chain starts rotating. After that, screw T must be turned in the opposite direction until the chain stops.

To adjust the imported husqvarna chainsaw carburetor, it is best to contact a specialist who will be able to correctly adjust all the necessary parameters using a tachometer.

When is adjustment necessary at all?

It is the adjustment of the carburetor of the chainsaw that is required in rare cases, more often there are problems associated with fuel inflow or wear of parts. But sometimes “symptoms” indicate that it is necessary to adjust the mechanism. Here are some signs:

  • After the engine starts, it immediately stalls. As an option. it will not start at all. The reason lies in the excess of air and fuel shortages.
  • Increased fuel consumption and, as a result, a large amount of exhaust gases. This is due to the reverse process. oversaturation of the mixture with fuel.

The reasons for the adjustment failure can be mechanical:

  • Due to strong vibration, the protective cap is damaged, as a result of which all three bolts lose their established fixation.
  • Due to wear on the piston part of the engine. In this case, adjusting the carburetor of the chainsaw will only help out for a while, it is better to replace the worn part.
  • Due to clogging, which occurs due to low-quality fuel, scale or damage to the filter. The carburetor requires complete disassembly, flushing and adjustment.

If the chainsaw suddenly stops working, you need to disassemble it to find out the reasons

Fuel supply system

If it has been established by inspection of the spark plug that fuel is NOT entering the cylinder, all reasons for this must be considered. In particular: non-flow of fuel from the tank due to the fact that a hole in its cover is clogged, while a vacuum is created in the tank, which prevents fuel from flowing out; insufficient flow or non-flow of fuel from the carburetor into the cylinder; contamination of the fuel filter, which is installed in the tank.

Insufficient fuel supply or lack of the correct ratio between air and fuel, which are mixed in the carburetor, occurs for the following reasons: due to an unregulated carburetor, clogging of the air filter, clogging of the filter mesh or carburetor channels.

Chainsaw repair, as a rule, is not complete without cleaning the air filter, since it becomes dirty quickly enough. When this happens, the ingress of air into the carburetor is reduced, at the outlet the fuel mixture is too rich, and this in turn disrupts the normal functioning of the engine. The dirty filter must be removed for cleaning very carefully so that dirt does not get into the carburetor from it. Clean the filter or Rinse in water with detergent, dry and reinstall.

Eliminate the misalignment of the carburetor by adjusting it. This can be done with three screws. minimum and maximum speed. Carry out the adjustment in the strictest accordance with the instructions for repairing the chainsaw, non-observance of which often leads to engine damage. Some chainsaw manufacturers leave one adjusting screw to exclude unwanted intervention by inexperienced users in the functioning of the carburetor.

If the carburetor adjustment did not help, it is recommended to clean the filter mesh and channels, and also check the membrane for integrity. The carburetor is one of the most complex chainsaw devices, therefore, it is necessary to start disassembling and cleaning it with an understanding of the responsibility of this operation. This unit consists of a large number of small parts that have the unpleasant feature of jumping out of their places unnoticed and getting lost irretrievably, so after disassembling this capricious device it may not be possible to assemble it.

It is either sucking in air somewhere, or something is clogged.

The main ways to troubleshoot STIHL MS 180 chain saws are to disassemble, rinse and blow out the carburetor, change the fuel filter in the tank, check the fuel hoses for cracks (can suck in air).
There is only one adjusting screw on the carburetor. at idle (this happens, twists, and the chainsaw starts working again).
The carburetor to cylinder connection is reliable in terms of air intake. there is a plastic ring (no gaskets required).

Oil supply repair

Often in the Stihl 180 Chainsaw, the oil system is damaged. Such a malfunction can be determined by the dryness of the working circuit or the presence of a leak.

The solution to this problem must be started with a thorough examination of the hose through which the oil is supplied. The connection of the hose with the fittings is also amenable to inspection.

During the inspection and repair of the oil system, it is also necessary to clean the filter. Contamination often results in poor oil flow.

If there is an oil leak, it means that the tightness in the system is broken. This primarily concerns the hose and oil channels. Most often, such malfunctions occur as a result of mechanical damage to system elements.

How To Clean A Carburetor On A Stihl 180 Chainsaw

The process of removing and cleaning the air filter

If, as a result of inspection, a violation of the integrity of the hose was determined, then it is replaced. If the damage is minor, then it can be hidden with a sealant. This radical way will reduce the cost of repairs.

Chainsaw malfunctions 180. Carburetor malfunction elimination

If, as a result of the pressure on the gas, the chainsaw starts to stall, then the problem lies in the carburetor. Also, a sign of a malfunction of the carburetor may be a protracted start of the chainsaw and the impossibility of gaining speed.

Most often, such a malfunction occurs as a result of wear of the rubber cuff, which is located on the piston of the fuel booster. As a result, air is sucked in when starting the tool. Basically, such a breakdown occurs after several years of using the chainsaw.

The elimination of this malfunction is carried out in the following sequence:

  • Remove the carburetor. Unscrew the screw that holds the cover with the membrane. The carburetor is returned so that the pin is visible. From it you need to remove the retaining ring and disconnect the air damper spring. After that, the throttle valve. To do this, unscrew the screw that holds it. The next step is to remove the flaps.
  • Pull out accelerator with spring. It has a cuff. The wear of this particular element leads to air leakage and engine stalling after a recent start. Cuff piston needs to be replaced.
  • Assemble the carburetor in reverse order and install on the chainsaw.
  • Step-by-step disassembly of the carburetor

Now we know how to fix a carburetor malfunction. Observing all the rules, you can easily do these works with your own hands.

    4) Chainsaw malfunction: After disassembling the carburetor, the chainsaw is difficult to start, white smoke appears from the chimney.
Reason: When disassembling the carburetor, the spring is lost under the needle lever, as a result, the needle DOES NOT block the fuel supply, and the spark plug is “filled” with gasoline.
Chainsaw Repair: Find and place the spring under the needle arm in the chainsaw carburetor.

    5) Chainsaw malfunction: Chainsaw starts well, it doesn’t work well.
Cause “Pours in” the gasoline plug due to sticking of the needle in the carburetor or the Highly Raised rocker.
DIY Chainsaw Repair: Flush and blow out the carburetor, install the rocker correctly.

    Checking the ignition system

    Chainsaw ignition system

If the tool does NOT start, the problem may be in the starter or in the ignition system. In the event that the starting device works normally, then it is necessary to carefully inspect the spark plug. It needs to be twisted and carefully examined.

Particular attention should be paid here to the electrodes, on which plaque can accumulate. If there is a red-brown coating on the electrode, then this indicates a serious malfunction of the entire starting system. So, the cause of the malfunction may lie in the carburetor.

If the ignition system works normally, but the tool does not work properly, then the problem may be associated with an excess of air-fuel mixture. Here you need to adjust the carburetor and clean the jets.

    DIY chainsaw carburetor adjustment

If, during the inspection, carbon deposits were found on the candle, then this means that the tool runs on low-quality gasoline. Also, a prerequisite for this may be incorrect functioning of the carburetor.

To solve such a problem, you need to take the following steps:

    • Remove the carburetor and check it;
    • If necessary, clean and adjust it;
    • Replace fuel;
    • Install the carburetor and check the tool in operation.

It is worth noting here that the carburetor is a rather complex unit. Therefore, if there is a need for its repair, it is better to seek help from specialists.

Attention: the chainsaw should only work with the fuel specified in the instructions. The use of low-quality fuel will lead to various malfunctions.

With this information, you can repair your Stihl 180 chainsaw at home. Of course, you need to take into account that more serious malfunctions are best eliminated at service centers.

See an overview in the diagnosis of the lubrication system of the Stihl MS180 chainsaw:

    Trimmers and chainsaws

    1) STIHL MS 180 chainsaw malfunctions: throttle wedges and finally the throttle key stops moving completely.
Cause: Transparent translucent resin on carburetor throttle shaft causing throttle grip. Tar is formed when gasoline dissolves a defective air damper coating.
Chainsaw repair: Here the carburetor throttle bodies should be cleaned with acetone, and the choke itself should be irradiated with tin.

    2) Chainsaw malfunction: Chainsaw “does not pull”.
    Reason: clogged carburetor.
Chainsaw repair Cleaning and cleaning the carburetor chains. Particular attention is paid to cleaning the carburetor should be cleaned with an additional filter (grill in the carburetor chainsaw). Remove the largest carburetor cover, remove the membrane underneath and clean the dirt of the mesh in the groove (be careful not to lose this mesh). Of course. clean with a thin copper wire, Rinse and blow through all channels in the carburetor chainsaw.

    3) Chainsaw malfunction Calm 180: Chainsaw idle speed increased (idle speed adjustment is ineffective and unstable).
Cause malfunction Air intake through crankshaft oil seals or elsewhere.
Chainsaw Repair: Replace the crankshaft oil seals and check for other possible suction areas.

How to clean a Stihl 180 chainsaw carburetor

The Stihl 180 chainsaw is a versatile garden tool that is widely used in the garden. So, it is used for cutting firewood, pruning trees and other green spaces.

The Stihl 180 chainsaw is no less popular in construction and in farming. It is very convenient and easy to operate. It also has a low cost, which makes it more affordable for the population.

Unfortunately, no matter how high-quality the tool is, it breaks sooner or later. This may be due to wear or deterioration of parts as a result of frequent use.

Some faults can be fixed at home. But, in order to repair a chainsaw with your own hands, you need to know the structure of the tool, as well as the most frequent breakdowns and how to fix them.

    • 1 Oil supply repair
    • 2 Eliminating carburetor malfunction

    Advantages and disadvantages

Zama carburettors are very reliable and easy to operate. It is on the Stihl 180 Chainsaw that a carburetor is installed, on which there are no screws for adjusting the quality and quantity of the mixture, as we are used to. One screw greatly simplifies adjustment.

The membrane carburetor has significant disadvantages. With such a carburetor, the chainsaw works in any position. For side cut, vertical, etc.

Despite the aforementioned pros, the carburetor is sensitive to fuel quality. In addition to clean air from the air filter, the carburetor must be supplied with Cleaned fuel from the gas tank. But this is not always possible, so at least once every six months it must be cleaned and blown.

Adjusting the carburetor of the Stihl 180 chainsaw

Usually, according to the quantity and quality of the fuel entering the diffuser, special screws are responsible, by adjusting which we change the cross-section of the fuel channel. But on the used Stihl 180 chainsaw carburetor, to facilitate the operation of the saw, these two screws are missing.

The channels are designed in such a way that the optimum amount of fuel enters the diffuser at all engine speeds. And the LD screw is responsible for the adjustment here, the rotation of which regulates the air supply to the idle jet. How does the engine speed change?

So, to adjust the carburetor of the Stihl 180 chainsaw, you need a regular flathead screwdriver and an electronic tachometer (not necessarily). The adjustment algorithm is as follows:

    • Check the air filter. If necessary, replace the filter element.
    • The LD screw is tightened counterclockwise to the end, and then back out 2 turns. Attention, the thread is left! To access the screw on the saw body, a screwdriver hole is provided. Start the engine and warm up for 5-7 minutes.
    • Turning the LD screw slowly clockwise, freely adjust the idle speed. 2 situations are possible:
    • The engine idle speed is very low. The engine does NOT keep idle. We turn the LD screw until the saw does NOT start to rotate, and then turn the screw 1/2 back (the chain should stop).
    • The saw is spinning at idle speed. In this case, slowly turn the screw counterclockwise until the chain stops, then turn the screw another 1/2 turn in the same direction.

If, after all manipulations with the carburetor settings, the chain continues to spin at idle speed, the dust must be returned to the dealer in a service center.

Below is a detailed adjustment of the carburetor of the Stihl 180 chainsaw using an electronic tachometer.

    Sore spots Stihl 180

Every instrument has sores and the 180 is no exception, but the most sore spot is the 100% air filter. Replaceable filter element 180th frank “G”.

Why the Germans will NOT change the design and will NOT put on this model a reusable mesh filter instead of a piece of unclear what, through which all the garbage flies into the carburetor, God knows. Maybe this was done on purpose?

Well, the filter needs to be changed regularly. I do not recommend rinsing it to anyone. After that, it loses its shape and at the junction with the body can skip.

The second sore is the crankshaft oil seals. Many times I came across a situation when, with good bearings, the oil seals were poisoned, air got into the crankcase, the maximum speed increased with all the consequences, up to piston scoring. What is it, a factory defect or operating conditions, but the fact remains that oil seals do NOT rarely become a prerequisite for serious problems with the engine.

What carburetor is used on the Stihl 180 Chainsaw

The Stihl 180 Chainsaw is equipped with a Japanese membrane-type Zama carburetor. Some users are confused by the China carburetor inscription. Yes, indeed they are going to China. But the plant is owned by Stihl (Stihl), and the quality is still high. However, there are also Chinese copies in chainsaws with corresponding carburetors. But these saws are usually cheaper than the original.

How much does a new carburetor cost

Chainsaws Stihl 180 are in great demand, primarily due to their reliability. The carburetor is no exception and is also quite reliable and unpretentious. Adjustment or repair of the carburetor is required only after long-term operation, and not less than after 5-7 years (with an average load). The tuning process itself is simplified as much as possible by Stihl engineers, this is the first chainsaw in which only one screw is provided for adjustment.

To adjust the stihl MS 180 carburetor:

The instructions for the MC 180 describe how to set idle speed on a chainsaw as standard:

We turn the idle speed adjustment screw counterclockwise until it goes tight, then turn it two turns clockwise. Voila! Sentiments.

Stihl ms 180, overview of sore spots, adjustment.

Stihl chainsaws are considered the benchmark for quality. They are able to work for years without proper maintenance, but they do NOT rarely start to be capricious.

Good afternoon, dear subscribers and guests of the channel.

Not so long ago, a Stihl ms 180 chainsaw came to me for repairs. In fact, a rare guest in my workshop, much more often they carry “Chinese”, which are made of “G”, and then they do not work for long.

In the 180th there were problems with the bearing and oil seals on the side of the drive sprocket. Everything is clear, this is not a disease, but the owner’s “crooked” hands, which does NOT know how to properly tension the chain and certainly does not weaken it after work, although this must be done. Especially in winter.

The chain heats up during operation, the metal expands and it becomes slightly longer. Naturally, it needs to be tightened to a normal state, but after work it will necessarily weaken otherwise the following happens: the chain cools down and becomes shorter, there is an increased load on the chain links, the drive sprocket and the bearings.

At the end of the article, I will give recommendations on how to properly operate and maintain a Stihl ms 180 chainsaw, which will help significantly extend the life of the tool, but for now we will continue.

How to clean the carburetor of the Stihl 180 chainsaw. Repair of the carburetor of the Stihl 180 chainsaw

The main malfunctions of the Stihl 180 chainsaw carburetor include the following.

    • Gasoline is NOT going to the carburetor. A commonplace reason is the failure of the fuel pump. The diaphragm has lost its elasticity or is leaky. This happens due to material fatigue with prolonged use. As a result, when the engine is under vacuum, the diaphragm does not rise and does NOT open the fuel channel with the valve. It can be replaced with a spare one from the repair kit by disassembling the carburetor.
    • Gasoline may also fail due to a clogged filter element (mesh) in the channel between the fuel pump and the needle valve. It is also treated by replacing from the repair kit.
    • Carburetor overflows. It’s not hard to guess that the problem lies with the main camera. Dirt particles enter the cavity between the needle and the channel, i.E. The valve does not completely close the channel when needed and the chamber fills. Very often the membrane stops performing its function due to stretching (natural wear). As a result, when lowering, the diaphragm does not fully raise the needle, and fuel continues to flow. The main membrane is also included in the repair kit. It will NOT be difficult to replace it.
    • Very often, after a winter standstill, owners of Stihl 180 chainsaws are faced with a difficult start. In this case, the valve sticks in the nozzle. The manufacturer recommends burning the remaining gasoline into the carburetor before storing the chainsaw. Gasoline tends to evaporate and during long storage, engine oil remains in the carburetor, upon contact with which the injector valve begins to stick to the body. As a result, fuel does NOT enter the diffuser. Since the nozzle is not part of the repair kit, you have to knock it out and rinse it thoroughly. This must be done very carefully.
    • If the idle jet or the nozzle is forgotten, it is enough to blow them with compressed air. Or wash it in gasoline, in 90% of cases it helps. But you cannot use needles or wires, because there is a risk of changing the flow area, thereby changing the throughput of the nozzles.

A common problem due to which the Stihl 180 is unstable is the loss of a retaining ring on the throttle shaft, as a result, it begins to wobble and play, which in turn leads to interruptions in operation.

So, you’ve decided to remove the carburetor and run a diagnosis. The withdrawal procedure is as follows:

    • Pull the gas trigger and lower the choke lever down. We turn the latch and remove the cover of the chainsaw.
    • We unscrew both fastening nuts with an 8 socket wrench and remove the air filter with the housing.
    • We remove the gas thrust (throttle valve) of the carburetor.
    • Disconnecting the cable from the control lever
    • We take out the engine control lever from its place. Disconnecting the air damper rod in parallel.
    • Pulling the carburetor towards you, remove it from the studs. Don’t forget to disconnect the fuel hose.

A more detailed and intuitive algorithm for dismantling the carburetor from the chainsaw is presented on.

As for disassembling the carburetor of the Stihl 180 chainsaw, everything is simple. 1 bolt is unscrewed on the fuel pump cover and 4 bolts on the main chamber cover. This is enough to change all the necessary components from the repair kit.

After disassembly, the carburetor must be rinsed in gasoline, and the channels and nozzles must be blown out with compressed air. In no case should the carburetor be blown out under high pressure and in the assembled state. Otherwise, you can stretch the membrane or diaphragm. Carburetor stops working properly.

In order to assess the condition of the filter mesh and membrane, you need to perform the following sequence of actions:

    • Unscrew the screw.
    • We assess the condition of the membranes, remove dust and dirt, and, if necessary, replace the membrane with a new one. Everything under the membrane must be clean. There must be no dirt on the membrane.
  • We check the condition of the filter mesh for the presence of dirt, if available, clean.
  • Putting everything back and disassembling the carburetor from the other side. Unscrewing 4 bolts, remove the cover, remove the membrane and assess the condition of the insides. In total you need to Unscrew 4 screws
  • To check the correctness of the fuel supply, putting the hose on the fitting.
  • We blow into it with our mouth, while opening the needle valve with our fingers, everything should work clearly.
  • Blow out 2 holes in the nozzles, with the same hose, they must puff calmly, without excessive effort. If necessary, it is enough to clean it with a conventional WD-40 cleaner.
  • Remove the jet-nozzle located on the right and clean it with a thin wire from the back.
  • Everything clean and collect. When installing the cover, be sure to fit it correctly. See the photo below.
  • As for the Stihl 180 carburetor repair kit, it includes a set of gaskets for covers, a diaphragm and a membrane, a needle valve, a rocker arm with an axle and a spring.
