strip, windshield

Every driver knows how hot the interior and dashboard can get when the car is left in the sun for a long time. It becomes almost impossible to be in the car, and the interior also cools down for a very long time, especially the black parts. Penetrating ultraviolet rays cause the interior to burn out and damage the seat upholstery. An excess of UV radiation also negatively affects the skin of passengers, as it can cause neoplasms.

In order to protect the interior of the car and passengers from harmful radiation, as well as from the high temperature inside the car, many car owners turned to sun protection films for help. These films are tint and athermal films, the main function of which is to protect from the sun.

Athermal film for glass

Such a sun-protective film on a car reliably protects the interior from overheating and burnout. This film, however, does not interfere with the transmission of visible light and does not impair visibility when driving, even at night. Athermal film is presented by such brands as Ultra Vision, Llumar, 3M Crystalline, Solar Screen. The thermal film also protects the glass from scratches and abrasions that may occur during vehicle operation. In addition, changing the film is much easier and cheaper than installing new glass.

Windshield thermal sun protection film can be either transparent, colored or chameleon.

Due to the production technology, the athermal film protects the human body from the negative effects of infrared rays, which can cause malignant neoplasms.

Windshield Strip

In the summer, the athermal film protects the interior from heating, since the sun’s rays are not only held back by the film, but beaten off. In winter, this film keeps the interior warm.

The film on the glass is also an additional protection, since in the event of damage to the glass, the fragments remain on the adhesive layer of the film, without scattering and without injuring passengers.

Sun-protection strip on the windshield

Sun-protection strip on the windshield. it is a strip of film, approximately 15 centimeters wide. It is glued to the top of the glass so that during the trip the sunlight does not blind the driver.

This strip is cut from the film and can be of any color and texture. The strip can be chosen to match the color of the paintwork of the car, or it can be made a bright element that will distinguish the car from others.

The price of a sun-protection film for a car depends on the choice in favor of a tint or athermal film. The benefits of using film fully justify the investment.

The price of a sun-protection strip on the windshield depends on the chosen film, however, everyone can afford it.

Tinting film for glass

Film for tinted glass is in great demand among motorists, since it can be used to achieve several goals at once. change the design of the car and protect the interior from the sun. The tinting also protects from the stinging light coming from the street. This sunscreen film on the windshield will also improve driving safety by reducing glare from passing vehicle headlights or lanterns. Also, the tint film protects the interior, people and objects inside from prying eyes.

The most common tint films for car windows are considered black, gray or silver, however, there are also colored films, such as blue and green, as well as color transition films and chameleon films. The transition film has a smooth transition of two colors to one another, most often from a darker top to a lighter bottom. Chameleon film changes shades depending on the angle of the light hitting it. Car windshield tint films are represented by the most popular brands such as Solar Screen, Llumar, SunTek, Sun Control, SunGear, Ultra Vision and others.

How to glue sunscreen film on a car windshield

The process of pasting the windshield of a car with a sun-protection film is quite fast, but it has some nuances and features, so it is best to entrust the gluing to professionals who will do the job accurately and without errors. Self-wrapping with film may not work due to a lack of the necessary knowledge, experience, tools or accidental mistakes. In workshops where such work is carried out often, there are all the conditions to perform a high-quality installation of the film.

In order to properly stick the sun protection film or strip on the windshield of a car, you need the following set of tools:
  • soap solution and spray;
  • rubber spatula;
  • distillation;
  • microfiber;
  • hairdryer;
  • stationery knife.

In order to stick the film on the car, you need to do the following:

  • Wash and dry the glass thoroughly. It is not recommended to use window cleaning products, as the components contained in them may react with the adhesive layer and the film will not adhere well.
  • Next, you need to cut the required piece or strip of film, leaving a few centimeters around the edges.
  • Moisten the surface of the film and the film itself with soapy water and carefully remove the protective backing.
  • Install the film on the glass, carefully leveling it with a spatula, and then forcing to get rid of the liquid under the film, starting from the center to the edges.
  • Cut off excess parts of the film, wipe with microfiber and dry with a hairdryer, if necessary.

Sticking sunscreen film on a car is a rather complicated process for independent work, and in order not to spoil the film, glass and not spend extra money on correcting mistakes, you should immediately contact the masters.

There are many advantages to using solar control film for glass that speak in favor of installing it:

  • protection of glass from mechanical damage;
  • protection of passengers from the harmful effects of ultraviolet and infrared rays;
  • protection of the car interior from burnout;
  • protection against shrapnel in the event of an accident;
  • anti-glare protection;
  • maintaining the optimum temperature in the cabin in summer and winter;
  • protection from prying eyes.

Car sun protection film is an excellent choice for solving the most important problem. high temperature inside a car on a hot sunny day. Which film to choose. toning or athermal, transparent or colored. it’s up to you, since the choice is not limited and depends only on your preferences and financial capabilities.

Types of suction cups

As I already wrote, there are two or three of them, usual in the mount, in order to better hold the gadget.

And there are single, but massive ones. They are made mainly of two materials. rubber and silicone. Rubber suction cups are dark (often black), but silicone ones are often transparent.

There is a lot of controversy about which one is better. However, from experience I have held up better with the regular rubber options. Silicone in cold weather hardens much more strongly, which makes the suction cup less elastic.

Although in fairness. it is really difficult to choose between these two options! Because there is high-quality silicone, and there is low-quality rubber.

How the suction cup works?

Actually, there is nothing magical here, we recall the school physics course. If you describe the essence of the phenomenon in a few words, it turns out that almost zero pressure is created under the suction cup, since we pressed the surface against the windshield and pulled it towards ourselves. But we have atmospheric pressure, which always presses on us and on the objects around us, and since it is high enough, it presses on the surface of the suction cup from the other side, pressing it to the surface (it seeks to fill the internal vacuum under the suction cup).

Thus, if the suction cup is in good working order, it will adhere very firmly to the windshield. But why does she fall off?

The suction cup of the DVR falls off. From the windshield in the sun (heat) or frost. What to do

Now a large number of gadgets, whether it be a video recorder, a radar detector or just a phone mount, are attached to suction cups (usually two or three small ones) or to one, but massive (which has a lever on the body, for greater effect). However, not quite high-quality suction cups can fall off the windshield! Everything seems to be well secured, but you hang your device, and it is in frost, heat or on bumps. “BOOM” and fell off! And if a gadget costs several thousand rubles, you can break it! In general, it is really unpleasant or even dangerous, but what to do, how to deal with it? Today, there are several really working methods that will help to almost “tightly” glue such a mount to the windshield, there will be a video at the end.

  • Why does the sucker fall off?
  • What to do to keep it from falling off?
  • VIDEO VERSION

Suction cups are not the only mount on the windshield, there are a lot of them, ranging from simple “3M” tape to magnetic mounts. However, they are inconvenient to install, and some are also difficult to remove, say, to transfer to another car. The suction cups really win here, “stuck. unpinned”. dragged where needed. BUT if the suction cup is of poor quality, it falls off the windshield, even if the car is stationary.

Why does the sucker fall off?

There are only a few reasons for this:

  • Poor quality production. If done poorly, there are distortions or bends, then it will not hold. After all, manufacturing accuracy is important here.
  • Insufficient pressure. Conventional options (without levers) cannot create sufficient pressure inside, they will not withstand large weights. That is why more of them are required, two or three.
  • Breakthrough. If the rubber or silicone surface breaks, then the vacuum that was created inside will immediately be filled with “atmospheric pressure”, the gadget will not hold
  • Dirty surface. Before sticking to the windshield, it is worth wiping it, it is advisable to degrease it, if there is any plaque on the surface, then it will facilitate the passage of air inside, after a certain time it will fall off again
  • Imperfection of surfaces. Both the windshield and the suction cup itself. They have microcracks and other imperfections. It is through them. slowly but surely, that air will seep inside. Over time, it will fall off again

What you need to learn is a simple truth so that the air pressure does not pass inward, and the vacuum stays inward for as long as possible.

What to do to keep it from falling off?

There are only two tasks:

  • To defuse the atmosphere inside as much as possible.
  • Don’t let this negative pressure come out

This is why the side edges of the suction cup are made so wide! And they try to make the material as elastic as possible so that it adheres well to the glass.

Often normal attachments fall off due to the fact that the suction cup is leaking. And to make it to the maximum, you just need to wet the surface. Any liquid, as it were, clogs up the “microcracks” and prevents air pressure from seeping out. And yes, water isn’t exactly the best option.

Many people wet the surface with water (or even saliva), this is certainly correct, but in winter it can freeze, but in summer it is banal to evaporate. Therefore, you need a composition that will not evaporate, freeze or harden. Engine oil is ideal, you need a little on your finger, wipe the surface of the suction cup and attach it to the windshield. It will hold on for a very long time!

The second “jamb” of modern gadgets is a “lever” in the mount, which creates a lot of pressure. Often, it makes almost a full turn (180 degrees), but it starts working only at the pressure itself, only 25. 35 degrees, that is, the remaining angle is idling. We need to reduce this idle speed, which is done. a circle is cut out of an ordinary car camera, along the rim of the suction cup (like a gasket), then all the insides are cut out inside and it is inserted between the suction cup and the body.

Once you start pressing the suction cup with the lever, this “gasket” will reduce idle and increase the pressure inside. WILL KEEP SEVERAL TIMES BETTER, tested many times.

In view of a small summary:

  • Checking the rubber or silicone surface for damage
  • Degrease glass
  • Lubricate the surface of the suction cup (motor oils are ideal, because they do not freeze in winter and do not evaporate in summer)
  • You can make a gasket (ideally from the tire of the wheel) between the plastic and rubber (silicone) components, thus increasing the pressure

Now we are watching a small video version.

This concludes, I think my article was useful to you, sincerely your AUTOBLOGGER.

Preliminary stage

You need to stick the stripes on the windshield in a dry room. If you are going to perform such an operation outdoors, the weather should be warm and calm.

Initially, you should prepare the surface of the car. To do this, you need to use a soapy solution (10-20%). You can also use regular shampoo.

If a soapy solution isn’t right for you, a glass degreaser will do. Please note that the substance must not be hazardous to metal surfaces.

After the glass is completely cleaned and well dried, you can start gluing the strip.

Windshield tinting in accordance with GOST

  • Benefits of tinting

Tinting on car windows is not only an element of tuning, but also a guarantee of the safety of passengers.

If you are going to apply it to your car, please note that tinting in some cases is prohibited by law and is punishable by a fine. Therefore, before sticking a strip of tint film, you should familiarize yourself with the rules for tint, but as an alternative, use a visor on the windshield with which there will be no problems.

Tinted strip on the windshield

Necessary materials

In order to glue the tint strip in accordance with GOST, you need to have the following materials:

  • a film of at least 200 cm (how much you need exactly, it is better to measure in advance);
  • rubber spatula;
  • soap solution;
  • spray;
  • sharp clerical knife;
  • technical hair dryer;
  • clean rags.

After you have all the necessary materials, you can start preparing.

Necessary tools and materials for window tinting

Strip selection

It is quite simple to glue the strip with your own hands. Initially, you should choose the right material itself. There are special strips in a standard size (14 cm) with different inscriptions or shades. But as for the latter, here one should not forget the standard for light transmission.

The cheapest and at the same time the simplest option is to buy a standard strip for tinting the windshield of a certain car brand. It complies with all GOST standards. So you do not need to adjust it in size and be afraid of a fine from traffic police.

In addition to the options presented, you can also pay attention to the stripes for tinting (size. 130 cm by 50 cm). In this case, the strip on the glass is divided into 2 equal parts (rear and front glass).

Varieties of stripes on the windshield

Standards

According to current legislation, the width of the strip of tint film on the windshield in the upper part should not exceed 14 cm. Despite the fact that this requirement is clearly spelled out in the regulation, there are many problems with such indicators. Most often this happens because the measurement is made not from the edge of the tint film itself, but from the edge of the windshield. Such non-docking can also be in the event that the film is glued unevenly in the upper part of the windshield (in the presence of triplex).

We measure the width of the film

Then you should refer to GOST:

  • the border is measured taking into account all 3 points;
  • width (in cm) is calculated based on the arithmetic mean of these indicators.

Some traffic police officers do not take into account such indicators, citing the fact that GOST does not have legislative force.

It should also be noted that tinting of the upper part of the windshield is allowed only with a light film with a transparency of at least 70%. That is, the sunscreen should be almost completely transparent.

If you decide to glue the tint strip in the area of the upper part of the windshield, you need to adhere to the traffic rules. Please note that 14 cm is the thickness of the film across the entire glass, not just in the center, as many drivers believe.

Light transmission standards according to GOST

Film application

Please note that you need to cut off the tint strip with a margin (more by 5-7 cm). The strip should only be applied to well-washed glass. Otherwise, the film will simply fall off. Then the following actions are performed:

  • from the outside, the glass is treated with soapy water;
  • the film itself is carefully applied (make sure that there are no air bubbles);
  • excess pieces (2-5 cm) are cut off;
  • the protective layer of the strip is removed with smooth movements, along the way the film is moistened with soapy water from the spray;
  • from the inside, the glass is also moistened with soapy water, and a film is applied;
  • the material is leveled and adjusted (spare centimeters are immediately removed);
  • air bubbles are removed with a mild spatula;
  • the surface is thoroughly dried with a technical hairdryer.

The tint film completely dries up only after 2 days. Therefore, during this period, you should not actively use the vehicle, especially in bad weather conditions.

Windshield film application

Benefits of tinting

Despite the fact that tinted glass is partially prohibited by law. This tuning element has undeniable advantages:

  • protects glass from mechanical damage;
  • prevents the windshield from cracking when a crack or chip forms;
  • in the event of an accident, the glass will not fall out on the passengers, as it will be held by the tint film;
  • protects the car from ultraviolet rays and interior burnout;
  • keeps the cabin cool in summer and warm in winter;
  • protects from oncoming headlights;
  • preserves personal space in the car, since everything is hidden from prying eyes.

If you decide to apply such a tuning element to your vehicle, then measure in advance how much film you need (plus 10-20 cm. in stock).

The pasting process is simple, and anyone can handle it. But, when applying such an addition to your car, you should remember the legal requirements. Otherwise, the administrative penalty is inevitable.

Chameleon tinting stands out for a number of advantages

  • Tinted windshield with “Chameleon” athermal film increases its strength several times, which means the safety of passengers in the cabin.
  • The glass is additionally protected from mechanical damage, chips and scratches.
  • The film “Chameleon” does not transmit not only ultraviolet, but also halogen light.
  • It is now much easier and faster to clean the windshield from dust and dirt. and this is also saving.
  • This type of vinyl tint film adheres very well to glass, does not peel off and will last more than one year without losing its excellent qualities.
  • The purple color of the film, depending on the intensity of the sun’s rays and the angle at which they fall, shimmers in different shades, creating a unique rainbow effect.
  • By choosing this film for your car, you will make it stylish and exclusive, and will always stand out in the car row.

If we talk about the shortcomings, then, according to some, this is only the high price of tinting with the “chameleon” film. Indeed, its cost is higher than that of some other types of tint films. But we can offer the most acceptable option in the region, since we buy tuning material directly from a distributor, and not through intermediaries. Come to the Wrapmenow company. we have the most affordable for tinting with Chameleon athermal film.

Tinting light transmission 35% 80% and 70%

Tinting 70%, 80%, 90%. These are athermal films, slightly changing the shade of the glass, making the environment more pleasant and the trip more comfortable. Passing Russian Gost, is legal, used mainly for tinting front windows and windshields.

The main advantage of these films is protection from the hot sun by 80-90%.

Standard toning method

How to glue tinting with your own hands? We move on to practice. To apply the film to the windshield and other windows, it is absolutely not necessary to remove them. you can simply remove the sealing rubber.

For the spray, it is recommended to use filtered water with a small amount of baby shampoo. When pouring glass, you can not be especially careful. the more water there is, the easier and better tinting with a windshield film will be. The temperature in the box should be at the level of 20-25 degrees. The humidity level must also be very high, otherwise dust will stick to the adhesive side of the film. It is advisable, before tinting the glass with a film, to enlist the help of an assistant. he will help to peel off the transparent layer from the tinting.

As soon as the tint film has been freed from the transparent protection (from the adhesive side), we do not spare the water, moisten it abundantly with soapy water and glue it to the glass. After that, we take a rubber eraser and expel the water remaining inside. However, if you did not manage to stick it on the windshield with high quality and there is still air inside, you can very carefully pierce the film with a blade and release it.

A few hours after the application, the tint film should be trimmed around the edges. An important point. when cutting the film, you must do it at an inclination of 30 degrees. So the material applied to the windshield will not subsequently bend off the glass.

We were able to answer the question of how to stick such a useful component as a tint film on the windshield. However, be careful. very dark material will interfere with the driver’s normal vision at night.

Types of permitted tinting according to GOST:

  • Partial tint of the windshield with a transparent color film in a strip no more than 14 cm.
  • Full tinted windshield and front side windows with films providing 70% light penetration.
  • Tinted rear window and rear side windows.
  • Full coverage of all car windows with an athermal film.

Many car manufacturers produce cars with glass already treated with tint compositions. Why is glass tinting so popular??

The main stages of windshield tinting

At the first stage, it is necessary to clean the glass not only from the outside, but also from the inside. To do this, you can use a scraper with a sharp blade, a spray bottle, a rubber dehydrator, a distillation. Then you should wash the windshield and take measurements with a tape measure (it is better to measure with a margin).

Next, you need to cut the film to size, sprinkle the glass with a spray bottle with a solution and put the tint on the outer part of the glass, with the protective layer up. Then you need to flatten the film as much as possible and accurately cut it on the glass using a knife (blade). Next, you need to spray the solution on the glass and, using water-distillation, smooth the film from the middle to the sides.

If the first time it did not work out perfectly to stick the film, then it is better to peel it off immediately and try again. While the film is wet, it peels off easily, but as soon as the water evaporates, it will be impossible to remove the tint without damaging it. The exception is siliconized film, but this material is rarely used for windshield tinting.

Do-it-yourself car window tinting

Car glass tinting is, without a doubt, an important element of external tuning. Whether to tint your car or not is a matter of choice for every motorist. In this article, we will tell you in detail how to properly tint car windows with a film with your own hands. And at the end you can watch a training video.

Toning is a process that requires accuracy and preliminary preparation. But with a certain skill, you can tint car windows yourself.

On our website you may also be interested in the following materials:

Below we have prepared for you step-by-step instructions for tinting car windows: from choosing a tint film to sticking a reflective strip on the windshield.

Pattern of a film for tinting side windows of a car

Before you start tinting the windows of the car, you must make a pattern for the tint film.

To do this, you need to determine where the adhesive layer is located. it is protected by a transparent liner. Always cut the film along the roll and make sure that the piece to be cut is a few centimeters larger than the glass.

  • Moisten the outside of the glass and place the previously cut piece of tinting material on it with the liner towards you. The bottom of the film should be parallel to the outer horizontal window seal and overlap it by about one centimeter.
  • Using forcing and a knife, make side vertical cuts in the film so that after that you can throw the pattern onto the vertical seal by about one centimeter.
  • Next, bending the lower part of the pattern, lower the glass a little and, securing the film along the upper edge of the glass, make a horizontal cut in it, and then give it the final shape.

A blank for tinted glass is cut out so that it is several millimeters larger than the transparent area of the glass.

  • Pre-fix the film from the outside on a damp glass surface.
  • Cut out the workpiece carefully and slowly.
  • If the transparent area is limited by the seal, then cut along the seal should be applied forcing.

Be careful not to damage the exterior of the car with a knife!

  • For ease of use, try to remove excess pieces of the pattern immediately after the cut.
  • If the transparent area is limited by an opaque strip of paint, then a cut should be made so that it goes over the opaque part by a few millimeters.

Be sure to keep the knife blade always sharp (break off dull parts of the blade in time).

Application of a film for tinting on the rear window of a car

The process for cleaning the rear window of a car is slightly different as it has heating filaments and extreme care must be taken not to damage them. It is also recommended to use a plastic spatula instead of a scraper.

  • After cleaning, the glass must be washed with a hard sponge, wiped dry with a hard distillation and wiped with a napkin around the perimeter.
  • Before applying the tinting film, moisten the glass abundantly with the solution, while covering the rear shelf with a rag or some other handy material so as not to flood the car’s electrical equipment with water.

To stick the tint film on the rear window, it is better to resort to the services of an assistant.

  • When removing the liner, immediately moisten the exposed adhesive layer with a water and soap solution.
  • Carefully, without touching the glue layer of foreign objects, bring the workpiece onto the glass. this is a very responsible operation and requires a certain skill.
  • Try to prevent the film from curling, kinking or bending.

With an adhesive layer, the pattern should only touch the treated glass surface and, in no case, neither the interior parts of the car, nor the clothes of the installer.

Align the pattern on the glass so that there are no gaps, and begin to smooth it using a rubber forcing.

In the process of tinting the rear window, smooth the film from the center to the edges so that no air and water bubbles remain under it. In hard-to-reach places, use a plastic spatula.

  • Next, moisten the tint film and squeeze out the remaining solution from under it using a hard distillation.
  • Extrude along the heating filaments. from the center to the edges.
  • Then do this operation by hard distillation, but already wrapped in a napkin.

The final stage is pressing the tint film around the perimeter by distillation, while heating the glass from the outside with a hair dryer.

Be careful not to overheat the glass with a hair dryer. it may break!

Application of a film for tinting on the side windows of the car

Moisten the surface of the side glass and use a scraper to clean the bottom of the glass. Then lower the glass a few centimeters, moisten and also scrub the rest of the surface with a scraper.

Clean the surface with the blade consistently and make sure that there are no uncleaned areas.

Next, wash the glass with a hard sponge and wipe dry with a rubber forcing. Wipe the edges of the glass with a napkin. Moisten and wipe the glass again with a rubber wiper.

  • Moisten the glass liberally before applying the tinting film.
  • Then it is necessary to remove the liner protecting the adhesive layer from the workpiece by two-thirds and moisten the adhesive surface. It is convenient to carry out this operation on the rear window of the car, attaching the pattern with an adhesive layer outward.
  • It is better to cut off the excess liner removed from the workpiece before applying the tint film.

Wet your fingers. Keep your fingertips clean, as you will need to touch the adhesive layer of the film while tinting the glass.

Gently take the workpiece and place it on the prepared glass surface.

Try to ensure that the adhesive layer touches only the glass surface and does not touch the seals and other surfaces.

Align the tinting film with the top edge. Make sure that there are no gaps or gaps anywhere, and begin to gently squeeze the solution out from under it.

Follow a few simple rules:

  • Hold the pattern with your hand, as during the initial squeezing out of the liquid, the workpiece will slide on the glass.
  • Squeeze water out from the center to the edges.
  • Use a rubber and then hard forcing. Drive the liquid in the same directions by hard distillation. from the middle to the edges.
  • Then, using a forcing machine and a hair dryer, fix the film at the top edge of the glass.
  • After that, using a knife, remove excess tint film protruding onto the upper edge of the glass. this technology allows you to leave no gaps along the upper edge.

Lift up the glass. Fold back the bottom of the pattern protected by the liner and moisten the glass liberally with the solution. Remove the liner completely.

Do this very carefully and make sure that the film without a liner does not touch anything except glass with its adhesive layer.!

Carefully tuck the tint film under the glass seal. Squeeze out the horizontal inner seal using forcing and, when filling the tinting film, make sure that it does not break. this operation also requires certain skills, so be especially careful (note how the master will carry out this operation in the video tutorial below).

  • Squeeze the solution out from under the film using a hard distillation: squeeze the water in successive movements from top to bottom and from the middle to the edges.
  • Finally remove the remaining moisture using a distillation wrapped in a napkin and a hair dryer.
  • Make sure there are no water bubbles left under the film during the toning process.

The technology for cleaning and sticking small blind glasses will be identical.

Choosing a film for tinting car windows

The tint film market is so large that for its review, we wrote a separate article about films for car window tint.

We do not recommend buying cheap Chinese DIY kits, instead we recommend purchasing only high-quality roll film for window tinting.

Also, heed the recommendations of sellers who sell tint films. You can also purchase all the tools necessary for tinting windows from them.

Still, it is better to see once than hear a hundred times. Therefore, we suggest watching a video tutorial on tinting car windows with your own hands, which is located at the bottom of this article.

And for better assimilation of the material, all stages of self-tinting glass are described below and can be used as a cheat sheet.

Rear window tinting film pattern

The pattern of the tint film for the rear window of a car has some peculiarities due to its spherical surface.

  • The outer surface of the glass and the tinting film must be completely dry before cutting.
  • The letter “H” is drawn on the glass surface with a wet sponge, and the tint film is rolled out along the roll with an adhesive layer outward. Our workpiece must be larger than the transparent area of the glass.
  • The remaining tinting material along with the roll must be carefully removed. For this, it is better to resort to the services of an assistant.
  • After that, place the workpiece on the outside of the rear window so that there are no horizontal folds, but only vertical ones.
  • Smooth the film with the letter “H”, as the glass has a spherical surface.

Wrinkles on the tint film must be smoothed out with a hair dryer. Be careful not to overheat it, and only vertical folds can be heated.!

  • After removing all wrinkles, dampen the glass and film and gently smooth the pattern. As a result, it should take the form of glass without folds.
  • Smooth the workpiece from the center of the glass to its edges, both vertically and horizontally.

Perform this operation carefully using distillation. Make sure that the film is not wrinkled during tinting, but evenly smoothed over the glass surface.

The next step in toning is to precisely trim the film. In this case, it is recommended to use a spotlight to illuminate from the interior of the car, and the cut line should go a few millimeters onto the opaque area of the glass (see the video below).

Materials and tools for car window tinting

In the process of self-tinting car windows, you will need the following tools:

To work with the tint film, use a water-soap solution prepared in the following proportion: for 1.5 liters of water, 5 drops of washing shampoo. Mix the solution thoroughly (you can use the container of your sprayer for this).

Before starting toning, you should thoroughly clean the outside of the glass using the prepared soap and water solution.

Buying and forming strip

To fix the film, you will need a spray or spray bottle that can spray foamed shampoo solution or soapy water. You will need the film itself. You can use color and win, if not on light transmittance, then on color. It is more convenient to smooth the strip through a dry cloth with your own hands, since the volume is small and it is quite easy to expel the bubbles to the edge, but perfectionists can use a rubber spatula or a rubber block.

There are special films for the frontal triplex, stripes with inscriptions. It should be noted that among such films there are also those that are intended for gluing to the outside. To buy, you need to decide on the pattern and color, but during the gluing process you will have to make sure that the strip sticks evenly, the edges do not slide down.

The cheapest option is to buy a standard strip with dimensions of 1300 × 500 mm. These 50 cm are divided in half (windshield and rear window) and cut off the excess during molding (the rear may require more material due to the greater curvature of the surface). You can make a small pattern with your own hands from two such films of different colors: cut out the contours of the figures on one film and glue it on top of the second, although special tools will be required to cut out complex shapes.

The standard film is glued from the inside, but the fitting is done from the outside, because in the course of work you often have to cut off the excess and adjust the shape. After the external adjustment is completed, it is necessary to cut out the holes for the interior elements (antennas, rear-view mirror, etc.). In order to speed up the external and internal shaping, you can cut out a template in advance from the paper: paper is glued to the outside, excess parts are gradually cut off with a knife until the required shape is obtained. Not everyone will want to mess around with such painstaking work:

  • If aesthetics are not important, you can cut the film into rectangles and overlap.
  • If aesthetics is important, but you still don’t want to mess around, you can glue a wide strip on the windshield and, by attaching some landmark (template) to it, cut off and scrape off, displaying the shape.

Toning standards

The width of the strip glued to the windshield should not exceed 14 cm. This statement, which is simple at first glance, contains a small catch, since measurements are always made not from the edge of the film, but from the edge of the element itself. A crookedly glued strip may have a thickness of 14 cm in the center, but due to the bending of the triplex, slide down along the edges for a couple of centimeters. Not many people know that the sequence of measurements is described in sufficient detail in the notorious GOST 5727–88. The standard, of course, does not have the force of law, but the measurements carried out by the inspector must comply with it:

  • The boundaries of the regulatory fields are measured at three points.
  • The width of the normative field is calculated as the arithmetic mean of these numbers.

The measurements carried out must be recorded in the corresponding act, according to which the protocol is drawn up. The violations committed and recorded during measurements, as well as the use of devices that are not included in the unified suitcase of traffic police officers (for example, a construction tape), can be used for defense in court, although they are unlikely to become a good defense by themselves. The light transmittance of the tinting film must meet the general requirements. 70% (glass element film). Those. tinting is permissible only with a very light film.

We tint the windshield according to GOST

On the front observational surfaces of cars, darkening is permissible only in the form of tinting with a strip on the windshield. The current version of the technical regulation indicates the exact data on the light transmittance of such strips, the place of their application and the width. It remains to remember these standards at the time of purchase, and not to violate at the stage of forming and gluing the film.

Film sticking

Many people are concerned about the question of fitting the film to the curvature of the surface. This is done with your own hands (rubber spatula) and a hairdryer. During warming up (it is better to warm it on the other side, i.e. the surface itself, and not the film), the tinting takes the form of glass, but you can only warm it after the bubbles have been expelled and smoothing. Before all such work, rubber seals are removed, the hair dryer is set to minimum power (the film can melt, the glass can burst). There are no special requirements for the air temperature around, but experimental data indicate that the best adhesion is achieved at temperatures slightly below room temperature.

Degreasing and “soaping” the surface from the spray gun is carried out according to the standard tinting technology, but the strip is glued to the windshield entirely, immediately after fixing both corners of the strip at the corners of the surface. These corners should not be allowed to move out, so it is better to work together. One controls, the other gradually smoothes the strip with vertical and diagonal movements, moving horizontally from the center to the edge. In the process of smoothing, the film can stretch for several millimeters, after heating with a hairdryer, stretching can also occur. at this stage you need to be delicate and smooth the tint carefully.

This article will provide step-by-step recommendations on how to tint a strip on your windshield. This type of car design has become widespread and loved by thousands of drivers. Although we all understand that such tinting cannot be done, as it impairs the visibility of the road for the driver. Nevertheless, such a film also has advantages, and they are quite significant. Its function as a sun visor is difficult to underestimate.

How To Tint a Windshield Sun Strip ( 2-Pieces )

The question of how to tint a strip on the windshield of a car independently torments many motorists. Our first and main recommendation is. before you start tinting. remove the windshield. We need a soapy solution of low concentration, rags, a scraper with which we will smooth out the film, a manual spray bottle. If everything else is clear, then not everyone knows where to get the scraper. Most often, such a scraper is already included with the film, but if you do not have one in the kit, then an ordinary rubber spatula will do.

  • Wash the inside of the glass from dirt, and then degrease (for example, with acetone), the better you do this, the less likely the film will come off and swell. In addition, all the dirt that is under such a film is perfectly visible from the outside.
  • Pour soap solution into a hand spray bottle and apply the solution to the place where the film will be glued. We apply it abundantly, so that it almost starts to drain;
  • We ask a friend to help. Carefully, together, we detach the protective layer from the tint film, exposing, in fact, the adhesive side. We do this very carefully, since the film is very sticky and thin, and if it gets wrinkled and sticks together, then it will be unrealistic to restore it and you will have to buy a new one. We remove the film not all at once, but only the first 35-45 cm;
  • We put the film on the part of the glass where the soap solution has already been applied. Apply the film to the very edge and cut the corner of the film, rounding it. Move and align the film so that the edge of the film falls under the glass seal. We smooth out the film with a scraper or a spatula, expelling air bubbles from under it. Sticking the film further and further, do not forget to pre-cover the glass with a soap solution. We do this because the soap does not allow the film to instantly and “tightly” stick to the glass, so we can calmly level and smooth it;
