      Do it yourself replacement of bearings of the anchor of the angle grinder

      Detailed photo report on the replacement of bearings of the anchor of an angle grinder (Angle Grinder) 1400 W 220V.

      Angle grinder got its nickname “Angle Grinder”Back in the days of the Union. Because, at that time this instrument was manufactured and delivered from Bulgaria. Angle Grinder in the arsenal of home tools the most versatile and multi-functional assistant. Angle Grinder during operation it is exposed to strong and uneven loads and long periods of operation, therefore, malfunctions occur more often than with other power tools.

      In my Angle Grinder when turned on, there was an extraneous sound and increased vibration. Further exploiting a tool with such signs is more expensive.

      Repair angle grinder start by unscrewing the four gearbox cover screws.

      Prying off with a screwdriver, remove the gearbox cover assembly with the secondary shaft and gear. The secondary shaft bearing turned out to be working, without backlashes and jamming.

      But the front bearing of the anchor. completely crumbled. The balls of the bearing were in the gearbox lubricant, the circlip of the small gear was worn on one side. To replace the front bearing, first of all, unscrew the covers of the armature contact brushes and remove the brushes.

      Then we unscrew the four screws attaching the gearbox to the angle grinder to the stator and remove the anchor together with the gearbox housing.

      To remove and install the snap ring of the anchor gear, you need to make a simple tool. For this, I used old scissors. At the emery scissors, the ends were sharpened, as in the photo.

      Here is a view of my circlip. For ease of installation of the retaining ring when assembling the gearbox, the tips of the scissors were heated by a red-hot gas burner and bent at right angles to the plane of the scissors. Then again heated and cooled in engine oil.

      After dismantling the anchor gear, I removed the anchor from the gear housing. Here is a view of the front bearing of the anchor.

      The outer race of the armature bearing is removed from the gear housing by lightly tapping on a metal screwdriver inserted from the inside of the gear housing into the groove of the race. It is important to prevent misalignment of the clip when pressing out.

      But the inner bearing race sat tightly on the armature shaft.

      To dismantle it, I used a standard thread holder for threading.

      Studs were twisted from it for rotation when threading. And the ler holder itself is mounted on the bearing cage, so that the screws for fixing the lerch fall into the groove of the bearing cage. Then we evenly tighten the screws on each side and in this way securely fasten the arm holder on the clip. Now grab the paws of the puller by the lerder holder and remove the clip from the shaft.

      Here is a view of the front bearing of my anchor Angle Grinder.

      New bearings must be filled with grease. For this you need a sharp awl, Litol 24 grease and a mandrel for mounting bearing caps. To lubricate a sealed bearing, remove the cover by prying it with an awl, as in the photo.

      Now we fill the bearing with grease and put the cover in place.

      In order to put the cover into the bearing without damage, you need to select a mandrel with a diameter slightly larger than the outer diameter of the bearing cover. I applied the socket wrench head.

      Bearings are lubricated. We press the front bearing into the gear housing using the outer race of the old bearing and fix it with a flange.

      At anchor, the P1000 sandpaper cleans the anchor collector. With a clerical knife, gently, without much pressure, we clean the tracks between the lamellas of the collector. And after these operations, the collector is thoroughly wiped with a cotton cloth moistened with white spirit or other solvent.

      Further, it is necessary to press the armature shaft into the inner race of the front bearing. To do this, place the gear housing on a wooden surface with the bearing up. The anchor shaft is inserted into the bearing race from above and with a light tapping, through the mandrel, we set the anchor in place along the rear bearing of the anchor.

      We put a small gear on the anchor shaft. If, after installing the gear, the snap ring groove extends beyond the end of the gear, then the installation is correct. We put a lock ring into place.

      If the groove does not come out from the end of the gear or half out, the shaft must still be planted in the housing.

      After these operations, remove the old rear bearing from the armature shaft and install a new one. The anchor with the gearbox is placed in the stator and we tighten the four screws that secure the gearbox. Check the shaft for rotation. The shaft should easily rotate in bearings without jamming. We put in place the contact brushes and screw their covers. Now we put a special lubricant for angle grinder in the gearbox Angle Grinder and put in place the gearbox cover with the secondary shaft.

      Screw the four fastening screws and check Angle Grinder, turning on the network.

      Angle Grinder should quickly gain momentum and work without extraneous overtones. On this angle grinder repair can be considered complete. Good luck in your work!

      How to Remove a Bearing from an Angle Grinder

      Bearing units of the grinders take over heavy workloads. This is due to a fairly frequent failure of grinders due to wear or damage to bearings. You can remove the defective one and replace it with a new one if you have the appropriate knowledge and a suitable tool.

      Recommendations

      Successfully complete the repair of bearing assemblies will help compliance with the following recommendations.

      • Necessary know the design of the operated angle grinder. You should study the technical documentation that came with the angle grinder. Knowing the location of components and parts will help to correctly disassemble and assemble the angle grinder during repair.
      • Perform replacement work bearings will help quality availability of required tools. This tool is not complicated and is almost always available in the arsenal of home craftsmen: screwdrivers, wrenches, hammers, a set of pullers or other hand tools (vice, extensions, drifts of various designs) for fixing and removing bearings.
      • When repairing grinders There is a certain order of work. It should adhere to it, given some differences associated with the features of a particular model.
      • Replace bearings in the presence of even a slight runout of the shaft, since a destroyed bearing can completely damage the entire power tool.
      • Before carrying out repairs, make sure that power tool unplugged power supply.

      The tool used must be in good condition:

      • structural elements of pullers (paws, rods, stops, screw devices) correspond to technical documentation;
      • screwdrivers have straight side faces, a straight shaft is firmly fixed in the handle;
      • sponges of wrenches are parallel, have no cracks and nicks;
      • hammers are firmly mounted on the handles.

      Compliance with these recommendations will allow you to correctly and safely disassemble angle grinders, replace defective bearings, re-lubricate all parts and assemble the angle grinder for its further operation.

      How to take off

      The following video on the Interskol model angle grinder has large spindle play. The author describes in detail A method of removing a sleeve of a plain bearing. For this, a tap diameter is installed in the screwdriver for threading in the inner sleeve. Next, the tap performs mechanical thread cutting operation and after meeting it with an emphasis on the gear case, the sleeve will rise along the cutting part of the tap until it completely leaves the landing hole.

      Video: How to Remove a Bearing from an Angle Grinder

      Option with parts extrusion, planted with a tight fit, the author does not recommend producing pullers in order to preserve their integrity. Such an operation is preferably performed on press equipment.

      Plain bearing can be easily replace with needle bearing. The main thing is to choose it in accordance with the outer and inner diameter of the sleeve. The following describes the repair work with an angle grinder, the design of which uses a needle bearing.

      How to remove / remove the needle bearing in an angle grinder

      Pressing a new needle bearing is not difficult, but removal requires the use of an original puller. In the next video, the author describes the manufacture of such a device and its practical action is shown.

      Puller is a collar with collar at the ends of moving petals. The dimensions of the collet are made on a lathe, and the central hole is drilled under the rod extending the petals. The puller is inserted into the bearing and the beads after the movement of the rod through the hole rise up and abut the side surface against the end of the ring. With the help of not very effective looking, but reliable levers from the reinforcement with sharpened edges resting on the inserted washer, the bearing can be removed from the housing.

      Important: The needle bearing has a significantly longer service life than a plain bearing. However, during operation, the spindle shaft wears out, which also needs to be changed. In the described video, the author found a replacement option. However, in most cases this can create additional problems.

      How to change

      Regardless of the models of grinders, the method of replacing bearings is not much different from each other. Correction repair technology related with design features, that each brand has.

      Bosch

      The following video describes gearbox bearings replacement for one of the Bosch models, which has a large backlash on the spindle. Here, the main executive body creating the efforts of extrusion / extrusion are ordinary bench vise. The use of various extensions in the form of appropriate-sized pipes and other similar parts allows you to transfer forces to the desired location using the jaw jaws. Some operations are in progress. using extensions and light hammer blows.

      The design feature is plastic flange. To extrude / press in the flange bearing, the author removed the plastic interfering with this process using a knife and a torch. Perhaps, if you have the skills of a turner, just cut this material on the machine.

      Makita

      One Makita model describes the process of replacing bearings without the use of special tools, any available means at hand. As base surfaces used wooden blocks from hard rocks that take on the load when performing various technological operations using force.

      As snap applied suitable thickness metal sheets and socket heads (suitable pipes may be used) when knocking out bearings. The centering holes of the shaft serve as the basis for the pointed rod (in the video this is the modified old screwdriver), with the help of which the shaft itself is released. The only tool for industrial production is snap ring puller, although without it you can figure out how to remove them using improvised means.

      Interskol

      Some designs of bearing units are made without interference fit. So, for example, in the next video, the ball bearing of the gear housing cover of the Interskol model assembled in a supporting structure with a washer, fastened by threaded connections. For a better fit to the plane of the body, the surface of the washer is coated with an adhesive.

      Hitachi

      Some designs of bearing assemblies at first glance, it excludes the replacement of the bearing itself, entering into such a node. However, the author of the following video found a way to do this in one of the Hitachi models and thereby save a decent amount of money with the proposed method.

      To fix the bearing unit, a crown on a tree came into the drill, one of its outer diameters fits tightly into the inner surface of which. With a working drill plastic material is removed with a sharp object to the size of the outer ring of the bearing. Thus, nothing prevents the bearing from being removed with a hammer and extension.

      Next, when assembling a new bearing instead of wasted plastic, a ring is inserted (in the video, it is most likely from caprolon or other similar material). Since the ring in the video has a wall thickness that does not allow assembly of the gear according to the technical requirements, with the help of a chisel, its inner diameter is finalized to the desired size.

      Sparky

      In the next video, one of the models of the Sparky brand angle grinder failed. To determine the cause of the malfunction, the author made a complete disassembly of the angle grinder with washing and cleaning of all parts. Details on the disassembly process in this video did not stop. This technological operation can be viewed in the article under the link "How to disassemble the gearbox."

      After analyzing the condition of components and parts, it turned out that the cause of the malfunction of the angle grinder was the front rotor bearing. It was easily replaced with a new one, which inserted into the gear housing without interference and fixed with a washer using threaded screws. The life of the Sparky angle grinder from the video is 15 years, so the appearance of other defects is not ruled out and the author correctly concludes that a new angle grinder is purchased.

      How to remove the bearing from the anchor of a power tool: a few practical tips

      Now, many home craftsmen who are not professional masters have a whole arsenal of power tools that help them manage household non-repair and construction tasks. Rotary hammers, jigsaws, angle grinders, drills. they greatly simplify and do not accelerate work. But it happens that a power tool burns out. Do not rush to not send him to the trash because of this. Due to the intensive operation, the parts wear out, so the equipment is not able to work in normal mode. If you know how to remove the bearing from the anchor of a power tool, it is natural to extend the life of your own "assistant". Timely replacement of non-lubricating parts allows you to operate the device for a longer time.

      The main task of the motor of a power tool. this is rotation. An anchor is that fundamental part of the device that forces the working mechanism to spin. The service life of the part depends on the power not the speed, in addition to the activity of introducing the equipment. To reduce the friction at the time of the movement of parts, bearings are needed. Specifically, they provide smooth rotation do not ennoble the course of the working mechanism of the power tool. If the bearings are not lubricated at the right time, their service life increases significantly.

      How to remove the bearing from the anchor in order to check its performance?

      Due attention must be paid to the condition of the bearing on the engine of the power tool. When it wears out above the permissible limit, overheating occurs, and the motor starts to run noisily. If it’s not right take off the bearing from the anchor, then in running form during rotation, the motionless, non-moving parts begin to touch together. This amounts to threatening severe damage to the electric motor. Immediately will need a replacement rotor or anchor. Checking the bearings is easy. For this purpose, you need to install the engine on a hard surface, put a hand on top of it, do not twist the shaft. The rotor should move freely, not jam. If you hear scratching sounds, in other words, you feel uneven rotation, this will be the first boom for the fact that you need to remove the bearing from the anchor and not remove the fault.

      In any bearing there are backlash, then there are gaps. Their presence is completely acceptable, but it is important that the characteristics do not go beyond the permissible limits. Need to check the backlash:

      • radial or longitudinal. To do this, put the engine on a solid surface and try to deflect the shaft in different directions with your hand. The amount of displacement depends on the size of the part. For household models of power tools, deviations should be barely noticeable;
      • axial. The check in this case is simpler. You must take the shaft with your hand and pull it towards you or push the rotor in the opposite direction. In household appliance engines, deviations should not exceed 3 mm. The closer this indicator is to zero, the better.

      One of the many ways to take it. bearing from the rotor of an electric tool,without fear of damage

      Festool ts 55 ebq how to remove bearing from anchor without puller

      minor tricks to replace bearing on the Angle Grinder.

      If during disassembly of the electric motor you notice traces of friction of parts, then there has been a wear of the bearings. Must be removed immediately bearing from the anchor and replace parts. This will avoid negative consequences in the form of engine failure or complete failure of the tool.

      How to remove the bearing from the anchor angle grinder?

      Today, home and professional craftsmen use several methods to solve this problem. If it becomes necessary to remove the bearing from the anchor, an angle grinder or other tool can be done using such devices:

      1. Pullers. These are special devices that allow you to easily and safely remove from the anchor angle grinder bearings of different sizes. The use of pullers practically does not require the use of physical force, even if the bearing is tightly seated. Thanks to the centering mechanism, simultaneous installation of the device grips is ensured. It can be used in any position. Before removing the bearing, it is necessary to clean the armature shaft of the angle grinder from old grease, chips, sand, so that nothing would interfere with removing the part. The centering mechanism allows the puller to precisely take its seat. If the bearing is intact, and the dismantling process is carried out for revision, it should be pulled by the inner ring so as not to damage. For large anchor shafts, an angle grinder uses a massive puller with three or four gripping legs, and for small shafts, devices with interchangeable plates or slats are suitable.
      2. Hammers, chisels, wrenches and other improvised tools. In this case, to remove the bearing from the anchor Angle Grinder, it is heated with gas, squeezed with a vice, grind, chopped and perform many other operations. These methods, of course, can be effective, but there is a big risk that the seat of the part will be mechanically damaged. And often the bearing itself after such manipulations without puller will be unsuitable for further use. In addition, the contractor may be injured as a result of contact with pieces of the clip that are scattered after strikes in the face, eyes or head.

      As practice shows, pullers are more effective in this situation. They allow you to quickly, easily and without much risk remove the bearing from the anchor of the power tool and inspect the parts or replace them. If you have to periodically carry out such operations, you should get such a useful device. The use of improvised devices is permissible only if you have experience repairing power tools and urgent replacement of a part is required.

      Features of bearing mounting on the motor armature

      After you have successfully managed to remove the bearing from the anchor, you need to carry out a number of necessary manipulations before assembling the equipment. If you are installing new parts, they must be exactly the same width as well as the inside and outside diameters with the old bearings. It is important that during installation no dirt or dust gets inside the product, because this can lead to corrosion, chips and various kinds of damage. The bearing is anchored using a metal pipe, which must first be lubricated. In the process of pressing, it is important to ensure that there are no distortions. You should also observe the following nuances:

      • Lubricate bearings with a special grease. It can be moisture resistant;
      • only ½ (for equipment with rotation up to 300 rpm) or 1/3 (for faster tools) of the bearing chamber is filled with grease. It’s not worth adding more substance, because all the excess is still squeezed out during rotation.

      Sometimes the process of bearing bearing anchored is simplified if it is preheated in boiling oil. However, you need to be very careful in this case and make sure that the part does not heat above 100 0C.
