Being the owner of the gas trimmer, I paid attention to the fact that the fishing line, even the thickest one, cannot cope with the young shoots (especially its many around the tree trunks). You can use knives, but they are not suitable for fine grass (and dressing them specifically to cut several thick branches is frankly lazy), so I found a great alternative solution.
What you need to have on hand.
We will need the following tool:
- Drill, a set of drills for metal;
- Large concave cup used when fixing trimmer knives, flat washer and nut;
- Old chain from chainsaw.
Preparatory work: processing the locking washer.
Using a ruler, mark a straight line across the diameter on the concave washer and clamp it in the grip of one of the markings upwards.
It is better to preliminarily map out the place of core drilling so that the drill does not slide off. We make holes on both sides, first thin, and then with a larger drill. the diameter should be such that the chain runs smoothly.
Installation and fastening of the chain.
We thread the chain through the holes, placing it along the inner wall of the washer so that it cannot interfere with the trimmer leading axis.
At this stage it is important to accurately measure the length of the chain from the ends to the washer. It must be the same and not exceed the allowable size, otherwise the protective cover will be immediately destroyed.
On the inside, securely weld the chain to the washer.
Everything is ready. We put a flat washer on our trimmer axis, our modernized washer and tighten it with a fixing nut.
Performing the above work, you should not only follow the rules for the use of power tools, but do not neglect personal protective equipment.
Tests.
The chain is not a scaffold. its efficiency has surpassed all expectations! It copes well not only with the growth around the trees, but also with impassable thickets, including reeds and even thick corn stalks.
Results.
As it turned out, the revision is inherently very simple, and with all the necessary, it took 10-15 minutes, not more. It is only necessary to have an idea of how to deal with a drill and a welding machine.
Using a chain from a chainsaw not only greatly increased the efficiency of the tool, but also reduced the cost of maintaining it — in any case, I no longer need a trimmer line.

Do not forget about safety when working with a trimmer! The wreckage of the bushes fly away a great distance and with great force. Use personal protective equipment. a special mask, make sure that there are no people and animals around.
