What oil to pour into the filter of the walk-behind tractor

Maintenance and revision of the air filter of the walk-behind tractor / motor-tractor /.

Look: if you check the oil level in the walk-behind tractor on a heated engine, in other words, the gearbox, then you need to pause for a couple of minutes after stopping. So the oil will drain back into the crankcase, and the check will show the correct result.

Filling with oil or checking the oil level in the gearbox housing

With the single-axle tractor on a flat horizontal surface, clean the gearbox housing near the plastic filler plug located under the handlebar mounting bracket and near the inspection hole bolt located on the right side of the gearbox.

Next, loosen the control hole bolt. When, if oil starts to flow from the hole, it means its level is normal. If the oil does not flow, it means that the level is missing. Here, unscrew the control hole bolt, open the plastic filler cap of the gearbox and, using an angled funnel through another flexible hose, pour oil into the gearbox until it flows out of the control hole. Now tighten the inspection plug tightly, close the filler cap and wipe off any oil drips from the gear housing.

Filling the air filter with oil

To fill the oil bath of the air filter, unscrew the wing nut of the filter cover, remove the filter element from the sump, pour 100-150 engine oil into the sump (according to the level mark on the oil bath housing), install the filter element back together with sealing rubbers and the filter cover, secure it with a wing nut

Pay close attention to the fact that you CANNOT start the engine without an installed air filter, also with a filter without the required amount of oil. This will inevitably lead to accelerated wear of the device.!

According to the factory standard, oil for diesel four-stroke engines with water cooling is used in the engine of the walk-behind tractor and in the air filter. When changing to another type of lubricant, it must be taken into account that the oil must have the specifics of SG, SF or higher. Select an engine oil with an SAE viscosity-temperature line. Based on the temperature of our nature, it is allowed to use engine oil 5W-30, 10W-30, 15W-40 in a different oil with a wider temperature spectrum. Please refer to the sketch below to determine the correct oil type.

To reduce the wear of mechanical transmission parts and prevent the occurrence of scoring on friction surfaces, transmission oils TAP-15, TAD-17 or similar in properties are poured into the gearbox, for example, oils of the TM series according to GOST 17479.2–85. For which the design of the operation of the walk-behind tractor is intended in winter, you need to use winter or all-season gear oils.

Now let’s talk about the general principles and rules for changing the oil for the walk-behind tractor and checking its level.

For the first time, the need to change the oil for the walk-behind tractor appears after 5 hours of operation. This rule cannot be pushed around, since after assembling the unit, various debris, dust, small foreign bodies inevitably remain in its motor, which, getting into the oil, there are variations to contribute to the motor jamming immediately after the start of its operation. This, for sure, will lead to engine malfunctions, which you will avoid, guided by the following rule: we change the oil a couple of times after 5 hours of operation of the walk-behind tractor, and after a couple of times. after 10 hours of work. So it will not be difficult to prevent the failure of the motor, and clean it of various contaminants.

After this, so-called, running-in of the walk-behind tractor, you should change the oil, as indicated in the annotation to the unit. This is usually done 25-50 hours after the device starts operating. If you do not have an annotation or it is not indicated here how to proceed, then you can effortlessly find this common rumor moment without the help of others. Examine the color of the oil carefully. If the oil is dark, change it urgently and try not to just bring it to such a state. Consider also the operating conditions of the walk-behind tractor.

For the possibility of changing the oil in the walk-behind tractor, it happened more faithfully and efficiently, the motor must be warmed up. Do not forget to prepare a container where you will pour out the used oil. Now we need to consider how to create this function.

What Oil To Fill In The Air Filter Of The Motoblock

When buying a single-axle tractor, there is a desire to be certain that it will last a long time, painstakingly and perfectly fulfilling our client’s own functions. Certainly, the quality of the unit is a very fundamental nuance in the process of choosing a walk-behind tractor. But, it is worth keeping in mind that the timely and correct service of the mechanism is the key to its durability and performance. No device will serve you faithfully if you do not take care of it, changing consumables just right, tightening the necessary nuts, checking the oil level.

Any owner of a walk-behind tractor wondered about changing the oil for a walk-behind tractor. I want to do this in accordance with all the instructions, so that the upcoming operation of the unit occurs without failures and problems. What is needed, in our article we will have a conversation, what kind of oil should be used and how to change the oil in the walk-behind tractor.

First of all, we will consider 3 main questions about oil for a diesel walk-behind tractor with a water cooling system:

1) how to fill and inspect the oil level in the engine crankcase

4) how to fill and inspect the oil level in the gear case

3) how to fill oil into the air filter.

Filling oil in a different way check the oil level in the engine crankcase

First, the uniaxial tractor should be placed on a flat, horizontal surface. Next, you need to clean the surface around the filler neck for filling oil into the motor crankcase (in the picture below you can see where it is located).

Then. Unscrew the oil filler plug and fill in the required amount of oil using a funnel. Using the dipstick, you can easily check the level. For this purpose, wipe the dipstick dry, insert the dipstick plug into the filler neck without twisting it along the thread, remove the dipstick plug and make sure that the oil level is between the “minimum” and “maximum” marks. The figure below shows how to work correctly with the probe.

GSI-180 New Air Filter for 8-10HP Water Cooled Motoblocks

a single-axle tractor with a heated engine must be tilted slightly and a container must be placed in front of it. Next, you need to unscrew the drain plug from the motor and drain the oil into the container prepared for this purpose for our client. As a result, it is necessary to tighten the plug and pour new oil into the engine. It happens that the motor is not equipped with a drain plug. Then the oil must be drained through the filler hole.

Remember that the constant change of oil for the walk-behind tractor significantly extends its service life. Do not forget that the oil needs to be inspected, especially if your assistant works actively and often. It doesn’t matter if a single-axle tractor has worked out 25-35 hours in one working season, the oil must be changed at least once a year. It is better to spin off unused, slightly drenched oil than to be greedy, and try to work on ancient oil after six months of machine downtime. The oil tends to oxidize, which increases the inevitable deterioration of its properties. And this means, with functions it will be controlled even more terrible.

There is no difficulty in changing the oil to a single-axle tractor. There are several moments on the pages of which you should definitely sharpen your interest.

a single-axle tractor must be tilted. The metering, drain and filler holes are always located on the left side of the motor. The old oil is drained through the drain hole, closed with a plug.

The volume of the container for drained water must be more than 3.2 liters. Please note: how much oil you have drained, so much are made and filled. And the best is oil for a walk-behind tractor with a viscosity index of 10W40: synthetic or mineral. This oil is recommended by domestic manufacturers of agricultural machinery.

No one will be able to give an exact annotation for you: when it is necessary to change the oil in the walk-behind tractor. After all, you can use the unit actively or operate it periodically. Therefore, you will only have to look after this issue only for you. Already today, if you use a single-axle tractor in winter, carefully examine the winter engine oils. Let them have a great price, but they will be able to protect your unit from breakdowns.

Air filter maintenance on walk-behind tractors

As we now understand, there is nothing difficult during the oil change for the walk-behind tractor. For you, you just have to keep in mind that it is necessary to look at the condition and level of the oil; change the oil, very little, once a year and use a benign factory fluid. We hope that our article has become useful to you, and you figured out how to change the oil for the walk-behind tractor. Read also these other articles on agricultural machinery on other topics.

How to maintain and clean the filter of the walk-behind tractor

Maintenance of the air filters of the motor cultivator engine should be carried out in accordance with the maintenance intervals specified by the manufacturer or as necessary if the equipment is operated in dusty conditions.

It is recommended to check the condition of the air filter every 5-8 hours of operation of the cultivator. After 20-30 hours of operation, the air filter must be cleaned (if damaged, replace it).

  • Do I need to pour oil into the air filter of the walk-behind tractor? In most cases, simply soak the sponge element lightly with engine oil.

However, the air filters of some models of motor cultivators are in an oil bath. in this case, it is necessary to add oil to the level indicated on the oil bath.

  • What kind of oil to fill in the air filter of the walk-behind tractor? For these purposes, it is recommended to use the same engine oil that is filled in the engine crankcase.

According to the generally accepted standard, the engine of the cultivator, as well as the air filter, uses engine oil for 4-stroke engines.

Depending on the season and ambient temperature, it is allowed to fill the engine with seasonal oils of grades 5W-30, 10W-30, 15W-40 or multigrade engine oils with a wider temperature range.

Consider the sequence of maintenance (cleaning) of the air filter of the engine of the MB-1 motoblock, the most popular in Russia and the countries of the former CIS:

  • Remove the protective cover of the air filter by unscrewing the wing nut;
  • Remove the porous air filter element (made of foam rubber) from the main paper element;
  • Rinse the foam pre-cleaning element in gasoline, kerosene. If it is slightly dirty, it is enough to rinse the air filter of the walk-behind tractor with ordinary detergent. After that, the foam rubber must be carefully squeezed out, dried;
  • Saturate the porous element with engine oil, squeeze the excess oil between two palms. In no case should the foam rubber be twisted. such actions can damage the filter element;
  • Remove the dry element of the engine air filter;
  • Rinse the dry element first in soapy water and then in lukewarm water. Paper filters can also be cleaned well with a vacuum cleaner and lightly tapping on a hard surface;
  • Air dry the dry filter thoroughly. You do not need to saturate it with anything;
  • Remove all dirt on the filter housing with a clean cotton cloth;
  • Reassemble the air filter in reverse order, replace the protective cover.
  • How do you know if the air filter needs replacing? This will become clear either by its appearance or by the behavior of the engine.

If the filter element has changed in size (from frequent washing in gasoline, the sponge swells over time) or damage has formed on it, it is necessary to replace the filter.

What is an air filter in a walk-behind tractor for?

The air filter of the motor cultivator engine cleans the air that enters the carburetor. When the filter element is filled with dust and dirt, its throughput is lost, which causes the mixture to become lean. Because of this, the operation of the engine is disrupted.

Note! A dirty air filter not only makes it difficult to start the engine, but also leads to a loss of power of the cultivator, increases gasoline consumption.

If the filter is damaged or missing, it may damage the unit.

The engines of most domestic and foreign motoblocks are equipped with an air filter made of foamed polyurethane (foam rubber). These filter elements reliably protect the carburetor and engine from dust and sand particles.

In the case of motor cultivators, this is especially important, since milling cutters and plows in the process of work lift a large amount of soil and sand into the air.

Filters made of ordinary foam rubber are easily washed with gasoline, they are quite durable, and they are relatively inexpensive (about 200-300 rubles).

Regardless of the manufacturer and brand of the walk-behind tractor, timely maintenance of the engine air filter prolongs the service life of the equipment.

Maintenance of the air filter for the walk-behind tractor

To ensure the safe and uninterrupted operation of a small-sized tractor for a long period of operation, it is necessary to carry out maintenance measures for its units and assemblies in accordance with the regulations.

It is not only about the timely replacement of oil in the units of the walk-behind tractor, regular inspection of engine systems and setting up control mechanisms. it is also important to service the air filter on time.

Why in the walk-behind tractor throws gasoline on the air filter?

Very often, owners of motor cultivators with a 4-stroke engine face such a problem. gasoline gets into the air filter and the engine does not start. There may be several reasons for such an unexpected phenomenon.

The simplest is a clogged filter (due to dirt, it loses its throughput and causes a depletion of the mixture). To determine this, you need to remove the air filter and try to start the engine without it.

Often fills the filter of the walk-behind tractor with gasoline due to a malfunction of the needle shut-off valve in the carburetor.

In this case, the level has increased and fuel enters the filter through the air passages of the idle system. You can fix the problem by repairing / replacing the needle valve.

Remember that only with careful handling of equipment can you make its work highly productive and economical.!

How Much Oil to Pour Into the Air Filter of the Motoblock

Engine maintenance consists of a series of jobs that ensure the smooth and safe operation of the machine throughout its life. Such work includes changing the oil in the engine components, checking and preventing the operation of the engine systems, adjusting the control mechanisms, caring for the tires and much more.

The off-road tractor must be free of debris and positioned horizontally with the support of the third wheel (if fitted) or support to ensure the stability of the machine.

Refueling a motorcycle

The octane number of gasoline must meet the requirements of the manual. For imported motoblocks, it is recommended to use gasoline with an octane rating of at least 92. Fuel should be poured no higher than the lower edge of the neck, a tank that is too full can lead to leakage and fire.

Before each start, the machine is checked for fuel leaks. Detected leaks have been repaired.

engine

Parts of a running or recently stopped engine can be very hot, so be careful not to touch them with bare hands to avoid scalding.

ADDING ENGINE OIL TO GRAVELY WALK BEHIND TRACTOR AND MAJOR BRUSH HOGGING

Engine lubrication system. If the engine unit was purchased without oil in the crankcase, it must be filled during start-up. For the lubrication of engines, engine oils are used for gasoline engines with the required viscosity in accordance with the SAE and API classifications. Specific oil brands are indicated in the operating instructions for the engine unit. In particular, SunGarden recommends the use of API, SF, SG, SH, SH, SJ, SL and SM oils for the engine unit (the S symbol means the oil is for four-stroke gasoline engines) or based on the SAE classification according to the following diagram.

The first oil change in the crankcase is made after 2-5 hours (different manufacturers indicate different times) of the engine block. In future. as directed (usually after 25 hours). The oil is replaced with a warm engine (this will ensure good oil flow when changing it) in the following order:

  • The oil filler cap is open.
  • There is a drain plug.
  • The oil is poured into a pre-installed reservoir (10-15 minutes).
  • Drain plug screwed in.
  • The oil is filled to the required level (the level can be checked using the buttons).
  • Lid closed.

For example, on a SunGarden pedestrian tractor, fill the crankcase with oil up to the lower edge of the oil filler neck.

Ignition system. Motoblocks usually have a contactless electronic ignition system, consisting of a magnetic circuit built into the flywheel, ignition coils, high-voltage wires and spark plugs. The distance between the magnetic circuit and the ignition coil and the ignition timing are set at the factory and usually do not require adjustment. Maintenance of the engine unit in this case consists in checking the condition of the spark plug. every 25 hours of operation. or replace it. after 100 hours of operation of the motor unit.

To check or replace the spark plug, remove the high voltage cable cover and unscrew the spark plug. Check for carbon deposits and measure the electrode gap. Depending on the brand of the candle, the latter should be about 0.8 mm (different manufacturers give different recommendations). If soot is present, the candle is removed. The condition of the threaded part of the candle and its skirt is also checked. If there is damage (cracks in the housing, electrode wear, damaged threads), the spark plug must be replaced.

Gearbox (reducer)

The oil in the gearbox (gearbox) is changed every 100 hours of tractor operation. Some manufacturers advise changing the oil after 50 hours of operation. When changing the oil:

  • Unscrew the oil filler cap (using a dipstick).
  • Unscrew the drain plug and drain the oil into the sump within 15 minutes.
  • Screw in the drain plug.
  • Pour clean oil into the gearbox to the required level (using the dipstick).
  • Screw in the filler plug.

Starting the motor unit

If you start more than twice with a closed throttle and gas leaking from the carburetor, close the fuel valve, open the throttle, and pull the starter cord five to seven times. After starting the engine, open the fuel cock and set low rpm to warm up the engine.

To stop the engine, turn the throttle all the way to the stop. Close the fuel cock.

Service intervals

Each manufacturer sets its own service time depending on the characteristics of the components and materials used in the engine. The approximate operating hours after which the engine is serviced and adjusted are shown in the table below.
