Why this happens is easier to explain with such an example (too lazy to draw). we start the motorcycle, and, holding it behind the wheel, we try to arrange the slipping of the driving (rear) wheel.
Now how will it be if the disk is on the left and "sparks" under the grinder:
We take the front-wheel drive motorcycle, start it naturally, switch on the gear and, holding the trunk, we admire how the front wheel is wonderfully skidding. It is TOWING (in the analogy it cuts) and not "drives in" under the fulcrum, increasing traction and trying to raise the steering wheel, as with rear-wheel drive.
That is, it turns out that as a system "front wheel drive option" more stable and predictable, even if we press the steering wheel from above.
Well, something like that. Maybe idiotic, but figuratively.
I cut a couple of months ago, a rail sticking out under the ceiling, cut one, standing on a stool, a hefty 2.2 kW angle grinder, and also with the protective cover removed (with it, well, nothing at all!).
If only I cut "push". I’d kill myself. and more than once.
For several years now I have been using an angle grinder in a summer house, and all this time I have not answered two questions: which side to put the cutting wheel in and in which direction it should rotate. “Shoveled the entire Internet”, but did not find a definite answer to these questions. Opinions were divided equally. Both sides provide convincing arguments, and at least some authoritative official documents on this subject are silent. The manufacturers are also silent. Today I want to speculate a little on this topic with the goal of deciding, first of all, with the first question.
So, which side to put the cutting wheel on the angle grinder?
Essence of the question. In the center of the circle (cutting or grinding) there is a galvanized steel ring with four punched holes around the circumference, usually with dents dented down to prevent this ring from turning relative to the abrasive. The inner edge of the ring is wrapped inside the circle, in its central hole, and ends flush with the opposite surface of the circle, without leaving it.

At the very beginning, after buying an angle grinder, I intuitively put the circle with the label out. On that circle, a metal ring in the center was also pressed from the side of the picture. And sawed, and did not experience problems. But then I got a cup-shaped circle (with a recessed center), and in it the picture and the ring were on the convex side. I put it with a picture outside, and it turned out that the circle scratches along the protective casing. I had to turn the circle. And then I had this question for the first time.
The other day, while watching videos about tools on YouTube, I came across a discussion of this issue, and decided to find out for myself, how is it right to circle? As I mentioned above, opinions on the Internet on this issue are equally divided. Then I began to develop my own point of view.
So what we have.
Rings on circles, including cup ones, are molded from different sides, although more often they are on the convex side of the label.
The direction of rotation is not indicated on the circles.
These points tell us that “with a high degree of probability” circles can be put on either side.
Next, I carefully looked at the washer and nut, between which the disk is mounted on the shaft with an angle grinder:
On the left is the washer that is worn on the shaft. It has a ribbed surface and a rubber ring at the inner edge. On the right, the nut, although not polished, has a rather smooth surface, which lies up in the photo. The circle should be clamped between them. At first I thought that the ribbed surface of the washer seemed to be designed to engage the abrasive, and that a smooth nut should slide well along the ring so that it can be easily tightened. But the rubber ring, which was clearly made in order to cling to a smooth surface, was a little embarrassing, and would probably deteriorate if you often had to press the edge of the hole, sharp with burrs, on the side of the abrasive.
I tried to insert the disk between the washer and the nut, and twist the parts with my hands in order to understand in which case which part clings to the disk better. So, in any case, a washer with ribs and an elastic band catches the disk better, even for the ring, but the nut glides even over the abrasive. I also noticed that the circle on the washer is easier to wear with a ring, since there are burrs on the side of the abrasive that impede the free fitting of the hole on the neck of the washer. So the results of these experiments clearly indicate in favor of installing the circle with the ring down on the puck. That is, the label is down.
I noticed one more nuance. The clamping surface of the quick-release nut has a significant play with respect to its thread, which allows it to press the circles, even if there are irregularities on the surface of the abrasive. In this case, such a disk will be pressed evenly. If you turn it over, then it will lie abrasive on the puck at a certain angle, and he will have a transverse runout. This is another argument in favor of installing the circle with the ring down to the puck.
All that I listed above follows only from design features. Now a few words about practical convenience.
Not all angle grinders have a quick-tightening nut like mine. If this is a simple nut with turnkey holes, then it is easier to tighten not with a wrench, but with the circle itself. This will be easier if the abrasive clings to this nut. That is, in this case, you should also establish a circle with a ring to the washer. They also say that if a nut is adjacent to a metal ring, and when it is bitten, it is clamped, unscrewing it becomes much more difficult than if it was adjacent to an abrasive that is crumbling in nature.
In general, after much deliberation, I came to the conclusion that you should put the flat circle with the ring down to the washer, and if the disk is cup, then you can put it in only one position, regardless of which side it will have ring.

Angle grinder (popular name. "angle grinder"), the most common tool of home craftsmen after an electric drill.
Despite the ease of use, “amateurs” often have questions about tool maintenance, especially in the event of emergency situations. As a rule, breakdowns occur due to improper use of the tool.
Main applications of angle grinder
- Cleaning surfaces, peeling old paint. It is carried out by brushes with steel bars or petals of sandpaper. No difficulties in work, except that the sandpaper brushes require compliance with the direction of rotation.
- Sanding with sandpaper. A concentric nozzle with Velcro is screwed onto the angle grinder, on which the abrasive is in turn attached. Before use, the direction of the threaded fastening and the rotation of the tool shaft are checked.
