A drill from a circular saw blade with your own hands

DIY manual garden drill. VikiStroy

You can drill a large number of holes for planting shrubs or trees, or for installing fence posts, and you can also drill a water well using an earthmoving drill. On the farm, this tool can come to your aid several times. How to make a drill with your own hands, let’s take a closer look.

To make a drill, we need the following tools:

  • welding machine;
  • angle grinder;
  • drill with a set of drills for metal.

The drill design is extremely simple, it consists of:

  • barbells
  • pens
  • knives

Consider the manufacture of all components and start with the simplest.

Option 3. Spiral drill

Making a spiral drill on your own is more difficult. However, you can look for items suitable for this purpose at metal collection points. For example, a fishing auger or auger from agricultural machinery of a suitable diameter may be suitable. It is only necessary to cut it to the required length, sharpen the edges and weld it to the bar. Spiral drill can be used when plugging water wells.

Chainsaw and gear motorized earth drill

Assembling the device is not difficult, the chainsaw does not change structurally in any way, it is just a semblance of a nozzle for a chainsaw. Now you do not need to dig holes with a shovel to bury the posts, this can be done in a matter of minutes with this homemade drill. If you are interested in the project, we will consider in more detail how to assemble a homemade product!

Materials and tools used by the author:

List of materials:. hand-held earth drill;. chainsaw;. Bonfiglioli VF49 gearbox;. sheet steel;. round timber.

List of tools:. lathe;. drill;. taps for threading;. angle grinder;. vice;. pendulum saw;. plasma cutter;. belt grinder;. screwdriver, wrenches.

Step one. Making an adapter First, we need to make an adapter, with the help of it we will connect the drill gearbox to the chain saw sprocket. To do this, the author removes the sprocket from the saw and traces it with a marker on thick sheet steel. Next, the marked area needs to be cut out, for this, first drill a hole in the center. Well, then we cut out the rest using a jigsaw, and then files. As a result, the part should easily slide over the chain saw sprocket. We give it a round shape, cut off the excess, and then grind it on a belt sander.

Next, we need to make an axis with which we will connect to the gearbox. There should be a keyway on the axle, as well as a place for attaching the previously made part for the sprocket. You will need a lathe to make this part. We grind the necessary part, drill holes, cut the threads and screw the part for attaching to the sprocket with screws.

Step two. Attaching to the Angle Grinder Next, we need to figure out how to attach the gearbox to the angle grinder and the fastening must be reliable. Its author carves from thick sheet steel. The mount is screwed to the gearbox with screws, and the whole thing is attached to the chainsaw using standard nuts for fastening the tire.

Step three. The design is quite weighty, and the loads during drilling are not weak. The handle will be fixed on the gearbox, first we cut out a round plate and drill holes. This plate is screwed in the place of the gearbox where the shaft with reduced speed comes out. Next, a plate is welded to the handle, which the author bent so that it goes to the handle of the chainsaw. As a result, when you hold the saw, you also hold the gearbox in addition. We also weld the handle for the second hand, the author makes it from a piece of pipe, welded to the plate on the gearbox.

Step four. Installation of the drill We need to make an adapter for the reduction output of the gearbox, the author also grinds it on a lathe. Well, then we install the part on the gearbox and put on an earthen drill.

In addition, the author installed knives made of chrome-vannadium steel on the drill, so that it penetrates well the roots and, in general, the drill drills well.

That’s all, the homemade product is ready. We start the saw and try to drill. The author’s video shows that the drill drills the ground without much effort, now building a fence will not be a big problem. That’s all, the project is over, good luck and creative inspiration, if you decide to repeat it. Don’t forget to share your DIYs with us.

Making a rod

A rod is a metal rod or tube to which knives and a handle are attached. Depending on the purpose for which you need a drill, you need to select the material for the manufacture of the rod.

If you plan to use a drill to dig holes for seedlings or fence posts, then trimming a pipe or metal rod from the floor to your chest (1-1.2 m) will be sufficient.

If a drill is needed to make a well, then the rod will need to be upgraded. This is due to the fact that drilling must be carried out at great depths, therefore, the system must be made with the possibility of extension. Here are some options for how you can do this:

  • cut the threads on the boom sections and splice them, if necessary, using the couplings. To prevent unauthorized unwinding, it is necessary to fix the connection with cotter pins;
  • at one end of the rod, you can weld a nut, for example, 20M, and to the other rod, a bolt 20M. It is necessary to provide for the possibility of fixing the threaded connection;
  • take small pieces of pipe slightly larger in diameter than the rod and weld them on one edge. A new rod is inserted into them and a through hole is drilled for a bolt connection.

This way you can prepare the required number of connecting sections.

The drill should enter the soil easily, so the bottom should be sharp. A more advanced version can be made by welding an old drill onto the bottom of the rod.

The handle and its features

To make a handle, you need a piece of pipe about 40 cm long.Choose a diameter such that when you wrap your hand around it, you can comfortably hold it.

Before attaching the handle, squeeze the top edge of the bar in a vise to make it oval. Weld the handle perpendicular to the rod.

The most important part in the storm is the knives. Their design will determine how much labor can be used to make holes in the ground. The material from which they will be made must be hard and resilient.

Drill for piles TISE

In the author’s version, the TISE drill is a blade with a soil receiver and a wider folding knife, which forms an extension in the lower part of the pile. But working with such a projectile is inconvenient. a folding knife interferes greatly. Therefore, in some structures it is made removable, but in general, it is recommended to drill the pits themselves with an ordinary garden drill, and to expand it, make a separate folding knife with a land receiver. This makes work easier and faster.

A do-it-yourself drill for TISE piles is one of the options

A cut-off shovel acts as a knife here, and a land receiver is made from a herring can. The knife is fixed movably, when it is lowered into the pit, it is pulled up by a nylon cable tied to the end. Having reached the bottom, the cable is weakened, the blade begins to cut the sides of the pit, forming the necessary expansion.

The photo below shows the second version of a homemade drill for TISE piles. The design is more complex, but also more efficient. The plow-blade is made from a piece of spring, sharpened and welded to the folding structure on bolted connections.

Dredger. from an old propane tank. The earth is collected from the bottom, because the receiver is made with a rounded bottom. It has two holes, their edges are sharpened.

This projectile works well even on dense clay. True, to reduce friction, the well must be constantly wetted with water.

Step-by-step production of a drill

Draw a circle on a sheet of metal, marking the center. This will be the blade. Next, cut this circle with an angle grinder, and then apply the cut line that runs along the diameter mowing line. Then we apply a cut-out line, which should correspond to the circumference of the knob. The resulting disc must be divided into two parts and the holes for the wrenches must be cut.

At the end of the pipe, which will act as a knob, we cut four longitudinal mowing lines, 3-4 cm in length, with an angle grinder. After that, you need to form a point from them with a hammer, while you need to collect the cuts at the very center of the pipe. The resulting tip must be processed by welding and made so that the knob does not clog with soil during operation.

The next step will be to connect the wrench to the disc by welding. This is done at a distance of 5 cm between them and at an angle to the plane of rotation of 20 degrees.

Next, we proceed to the extension pipe, which must be equipped with a handle. This detail must be welded with the letter “T” and be sure to weld amplifiers to it in the form of a “kerchief”. The workpiece is threaded through the knob, and a hole is made through them so that you can fasten the parts with a hairpin. Several such holes need to be made in order to be able to adjust the length of the product.

The work ends with sharpening the blades. The edge of the cutter must be machined in such a way that when rotating, the blade point is directed downward.

Hand drill design

A garden drill is a very useful tool for any summer resident. It is very compact, handy and easy to use. As a rule, it is made of hard metal. It effortlessly splits small stones and plant rhizomes into pieces.

With the help of such a device, you can easily dig a hole by rotating it around its axis like a corkscrew.

The main purpose of the drill is to dig holes for posts. Small holes are made by the cutting part of the device, which can be of various shapes:

  • Two-bladed;
  • In the form of half-discs;
  • Helical;
  • Auger;
  • Multi-tiered;
  • One-piece or removable.

There are models that start with small blades, and their upper part is gradually increased to larger sizes. A factory drill is not functional and effective in all situations, because the tool simply will not be able to penetrate the soil to the required depth, or its nozzles will be of the wrong diameter.

What Can be Done with a Hand Drill #2 (circular saw)

Although the cost of a factory drill for poles is relatively affordable, it is quite possible to make a useful tool yourself, and at the same time it will meet all the necessary requirements. The technology for making a drill with your own hands is very simple, and its cost will be much cheaper than the factory one. You just need to decide on the parameters of the product.

Let’s look at several different designs that are responsible for the efficiency and functionality of the drill:

  • Baking powder. This part consists of a pair of planes or a screw. The auger looks like a spiral, the knife is on the bar.
  • Soil receiver. This part collects soil and makes it much easier to drill holes up to 35 cm in size.
  • Shaper plow. It is located in the lower zone. This design allows you to strengthen the columnar foundation, which is very important in the construction of massive structures.
  • The auger is bolted to the handle. The length of the ready-to-use and fully assembled product is about one meter, which allows you to easily make holes up to 70 cm deep. If the hole should be of greater depth, then the structure can be extended with a tube (500 mm). This element is a part with a nut and a bolt, which are located at the ends of the pipes.

From the saw blade

If you have an old saw blade of a suitable diameter, you have found an almost perfect option. They use hardened steel, and it is elastic and strong. But such a disc cannot be bent, therefore it is cut in half and these halves are bred at the required angle.

Such a homemade drill for earthworks shows a fairly high productivity. Even used discs have a well-sharpened edge. And to make drilling even easier, they also sharpen the drill on the sides with their own hands.

Modifications

In dense soils, it can be difficult to cut the soil with large blades. In this case, several blades of different sizes are welded onto the rod. Below, near the peak, the smallest are welded, higher, retreating a few centimeters. the large ones. There can be three such tiers, maximum four. The entire cutting part should not be more than 50 cm, otherwise it is very difficult to work physically.

Cutting blades can be arranged in several tiers

If a drill is needed for shallow pits. for installing poles, etc., then such a design is optimal. it has a relatively low weight, it is easy to work with it. The process of work is as follows. they lowered it into the hole, turned it several times. pulled out, poured out the soil stuck between the blades. But if you need to drill deep pits, you will be tortured to drag a small amount of soil from the depth. For such cases, a box for collecting soil is welded above the blades.

Homemade drill with soil receiver is suitable for installing poles and piles

And all these are hand-made boers. All of them are highly efficient. it is much easier to work than purchased ones.
