Bosch Gdb Diamond Drilling Rig

The price of an inexpensive diamond drill, such as the Titan PDAKB130, is comparable to the cost of a construction drill. But the advantage of the latter is only in the cheapness of the equipment of a small diameter. In all other respects, he loses.

Hammerless drilling, in contrast to rotational hammering, does not create dynamic loads of concrete, and the place of entry and exit of the crown from the structure is perfectly flat, without chipping the edge.
The drill cuts all the material in its path, turning it into dust, painting crushed stone and forming torn edges inside the hole
Only a narrow outer edge, formed by diamond segments, works on the crown. Both the walls of the hole and the outer edges of the extracted core remain smooth.

The diameter of the drill punch does not exceed 50 mm (carbide tipped milling cutters 150 mm), and a length of 1 meter. The maximum crown size of a diamond drilling rig is more than a meter, and the immersion depth depends on the number of extensions.

The equipment of diamond drills easily passes reinforced concrete of any degree of reinforcement and the location of the rod not only across, but also along the direction of its movement.
Vibration-free core drilling does not damage the surface of brittle materials, such as ceramic tiles or porcelain tiles. And dust-free work in conjunction: a diamond installation with a water supply allows the vacuum cleaner to use it in operated buildings.

Manual rigs for diamond drilling.

Some drive models, typically with power up to 3 kW, are used in a tripod-free condition. Eibenstock EHD1300Set, Titan PDAKB3102, or AGP DM160 have body shapes similar to an electric drill with correspondingly located controls and comfortable to hold hands. The front handles mounted on the neck of the drives are swivel and removable. And the end face of the case can be with a soft wide overlay, like the Norton clipper CDM163; retractable or attachable handle, like Titan PDAKB130. They allow you to press harder, creating emphasis on the shoulder of the operator and using body weight, for example when drilling into the floor.

Manual diamond drilling rigs, weighing from 3 to 10 kg, are convenient for making holes for sockets, distribution boxes, pipes of small diameter, chemical anchors and are often used by construction crews as an auxiliary tool.
On diamond drills operated without a tripod, crowns up to 100 mm for concrete and up to 130 mm for brick are installed. The electric motor power of such models as AGP DM160 is enough to work with 200 mm equipment, but the lack of rigid fixation of the drilling axis is unsafe for the operator and creates difficulties when starting drilling:
– the worker spends a lot of physical strength on holding and pressing the tool;
– the likelihood of skewing and deviation of the tool increases with the risk of jamming and increasing the load on the electric motor;
– contact with the ribs of steel reinforcement threatens to tear out the diamond drill from the operator’s hands.

Choice of rack mounted equipment.

With an increase in the diameter of the installed crown, the resistance provided by the material also increases. The moment of load on the shaft becomes such that the operator does not have enough forces to fix the set position. A design is needed that allows you to feed rigging strictly in the direction of the axis of rotation.
Stationary diamond drilling rigs such as the Titan PDAKB2300 or AGP DM 250H consist of several modules: base plate, rail and carriage.

What are the soles.

A welded steel or cast aluminum alloy plate with a longitudinal groove, eyelets for the axles of the wheels and the column, holes for adjustment bolts, a handle and stiffeners.
According to the method of attachment to the floor, wall or ceiling, there are vacuum or with fixing with an anchor.

Diamond drill with a plate for vacuum suction differ even visually. On their soles there is: a fitting for pumping air, a vacuum gauge for indications of vacuum and a sealing rim along the perimeter of soft rubber.
Such models are convenient for rooms with a fine finish and a smooth surface (air will seep through roughnesses in rough or structured ones).
Creating a vacuum under the base of a diamond drilling installation placed on a ceramic tile or a poured concrete floor allows not to leave technological holes for fasteners after work.

If the floor is relatively flat, and the crown used does not exceed 60 mm, then in practice, for non-reinforced concrete, the light diamond stand is not fastened. She is held by hands and pressed with her foot on the sole.
For larger holes, a technical hole is drilled. An anchor is inserted into it, and put on it, through the longitudinal groove of the plate and tighten the nut. The adjustment of the entire structure is carried out by adjustment bolts.

Guide Rod.

It is mounted on one side to the base and, depending on the version, can be tilted at an angle, as on a Titan PDAKB2300 diamond drilling rig, or be rigidly fixed perpendicular to the bed, as on the Titan NS100.
The rod sets a steady movement of the drive, serves as a guide for its supply, and the depth of the hole made in one pass depends on its length. It is made of aluminum or steel beam with a cross section of 50×50 mm, resistant to torsion and bending loads.
The rod, base plate, eyelets for their connection are massive and thick-walled. When drilling concrete, they are affected by forces that counteract the feed and rotation. They seek to tear off the motor at the junction with the rail; twist the rod and turn the base around the anchor bolt.

Carriage.

Serves for fixing the motor of the diamond drilling installation and its movement along the rail of the bed. The teeth of the feed carriage are meshed with the teeth of the rack and, turning the steering wheel, smoothly deepen and return the drive with a crown.

Diamond installations for dry drilling and with water supply.

Most of the work is carried out with the supply of water to the cutting zone, but in some cases: when cooling is unacceptable for some reason, for example, the finish is highly porous and the diameter of the holes is not large, crowns are used for dry drilling.
Their rotation requires a lower peripheral speed, which means that the drilling intensity will be low, which is not always acceptable.

High efficiency is achieved by supplying water to the hollow spindle of a diamond drill, which does not have a cartridge, but only the external thread onto which the screw is screwed.
The liquid, under a pressure of not more than 3 bar, enters the inside of the crown body and forms a suspension of cut material slurry. Suspension, under slight pressure and receiving rotation from the walls of the rotating tooling, is sprayed at the place of work. To prevent the spreading of water and the associated dust from the outside of the equipment, drainage rings are installed and a vacuum cleaner is connected.

Fluid flow does not depend on the model of the diamond drilling rig, but on the diameter of the crown. For example, 100 mm is 5 liters per minute, and 300 mm is already 15.

Technical characteristics of the equipment.

What else to look for when choosing.

The presence of a water supply system.
Not all tools are equipped with it. For example, the Eibenstock EHD1300Set diamond drill looks like a powerful electric drill with 3400 rpm, but with a missing chuck and an external M18 thread on the spindle for attaching equipment. Dust removal occurs through the nozzle supplied in the kit, which has a fitting for the vacuum cleaner and is mounted on top of the crown.

Number of gear speeds.
There may be one, like the Eibenstock DB160 GRU; two like the Bosch GDB 1600 WE or three like the Norton clipper CDM163.
The ratio of rotation speeds for drives of three-speed diamond plants can vary: from 510/1150/2500 to 1000/2300 / 5000. But the rule of choice is simple: the larger the diameter of the crown, the lower the speed of rotation.

Other features that influence choice.
The presence of temperature control of the winding of the poles of the motor, a safety clutch that is triggered when equipment is locked, a system for maintaining speed under load.
Possibility of construction to perform inclined drilling; adjustment scales for accurate setting of the angle and checking the depth of the drilled hole; rack height and the ability to rotate it 360 degrees; the presence of a pre-centering system.
Built-in “soft start” for smooth drilling when drilling large holes, reverse and the function of automatic increase in torque when the crown collides with the reinforcement.
