How to cut with a grinder without dust

Step-by-step instruction

Just five simple steps:

1) We put the grinder on the floor, table, etc. so that it lies with the disc upwards parallel to the plane of the base.

LBM should be located fairly stable.

2) We take a branch with pliers or some kind of clamp.

3) We turn on the grinder and literally saw through the branch pipe along the body, under the casing of the angle grinder, about 3 cm.

grinder, dust

4) We take reinforced scotch tape, and tightly, in an interference fit, we attach the branch to the grinder body, with a slight approach (a couple of centimeters) into the saw blade.

The branch pipe must be fixed firmly so that it is kept absolutely still.

5) We take masking tape, and glue the open side of the casing with it, connecting it to the bend.

This design makes it easy to connect a construction vacuum cleaner and saw with a grinder without dust.

For such work, you can only use a construction vacuum cleaner.

When sawing, the blade should be inserted into the material to be cut from the engine side, closer to the nozzle.

So all the dust will go through the outlet to the vacuum cleaner.

We cut objects with the engine forward.

2 ways how to saw with a grinder without dust?

Sawing with an angle grinder on concrete, brick, stone or tile produces a lot of dust. In this article we will tell you how to saw with a grinder without dust.

Dust not only pollutes the room or work area, but also has a detrimental effect on human health.

In addition, it is much more difficult and inconvenient to work in dust. it’s hard to breathe and you can’t see anything.

There are two ways to do dust-free work.

The first way is wetting

The easiest way to cut dust-free concrete or brick is to wet them with water.

To do this, you can use a conventional spray bottle.

or a spray bottle (made from a plastic bottle with holes in the lid), or a children’s water gun / machine gun.

Spraying the object must be done directly during the saw so that the dust immediately gets wet, without having time to scatter.

Due to the fact that the sawman’s hands are busy with the grinder, it is quite difficult and inconvenient for him to cut and spray at the same time, and besides, it is unsafe.

Therefore, a second person should be involved in spraying.

In tandem, all work can be done quickly and without difficulty.

This method does not require any significant effort, but it creates a lot of dirt, because dust turns into slurry, spills on the floor, and also flies in different directions.

The second way is more efficient and practical.

The second way to connect the vacuum cleaner

This method consists in connecting a construction vacuum cleaner to the grinder using improvised means.

For this you will need:

polypropylene drainage branch with a diameter of 50mm, at 45 degrees;

reinforced scotch tape (for greater reliability);

good quality masking tape.

The described components for this method can be replaced by any suitable analogs.

Safety engineering

Such a dust extraction system does not imply any major structural changes in the grinder device.

We just attached the pipe to the body of the instrument.

And the second part of the casing was closed with masking tape, this element can create a false impression of security.

Masking tape is only designed to protect against dust.

Therefore, it is necessary to comply with all safety measures when working with angle grinders.

Preparatory stage

The answer to the question whether it is possible to cut a tile with a grinder will be positive, but it is necessary to choose the right attachment (cutting edge). With porcelain stoneware, which is characterized by increased strength, it is better to work with a diamond-coated disc. Ceramic material is easier to cut, but in this case, such a nozzle will work. Use a fine-dust diamond wheel.

In addition, before starting work, it is necessary to decide which cutting method will be used: dry or wet. In the first case, a lot of dust appears in the process. This is due to the fact that the material is characterized by high density and increased strength. As a result, cutting with a grinder is accompanied by the release of a large amount of tiny particles into the air.

Alternatively, you can choose wet cutting. In this case, a cooling system is used. water is supplied to the treated area of the finishing material. Working with a grinder, it is difficult to organize the cooling of the disk in an automatic mode, for example, as is implemented in electrical installations (electric tile cutters), where there is a special bath. If you plan to use angle grinders, prepare a spray gun or a wide container with low sides to cool the diamond disc, which will allow you to lower the cutting edge into the water, after turning off the grinder.

Work on a power tool must be carried out after a thorough inspection. In the process of fitting the tiles, the cutting disc can cause injury, so it is important to check the attachment and ensure that all other removable parts are securely in place. The grinder should be equipped with a special casing that reduces the rate of dust spreading into the air. To prevent debris from damaging the walls or plumbing fixtures, cover them if possible.

Special attachments for the grinder

There are stone and metal discs. For working with tiles, it is recommended to use the second option with diamond dusting. In addition, the discs are available in different designs and designs. There are models:

  • Solid. They can be smooth or abrasive. Most often used for dry cutting. However, you can periodically wet the surface of the cutting wheel with water. Solid discs are more suitable for processing the edge of the product.
  • Segmented. consist of several parts. It is not recommended to use them for edging, as the likelihood of chipping increases. Segmented discs have holes for cooling, so there is no need to use water.
  • Combined. This is a nozzle that can be used for both dry and wet cutting.

Technique

Standard tile sizes are not always enough to realize your idea of decorating a room. Often the shape of the product needs to be corrected, for example, if the last row is being laid or tiles need to be laid near the pipe. In this case, various techniques are used to obtain a circle or bend in a tile.

Diamond wheel

With this type of cutting edge, the thickness of the abrasive layer can vary. To work with a grinder in a domestic environment, it is recommended to purchase 2 mm thick sprayed discs. On machines, cutting edges are used with a sputtering of a smaller thickness. However, if the tile is being cut with a grinder with such a diamond wheel at home, the likelihood of chipping increases. In addition, working with these types of discs increases the risk of knocks and jerks, which can damage the instrument.

We make a tile cutter from a grinder with our own hands

You do not need to take the entire tool, only the cutting edge is used. a diamond disc. A workbench is used as a support, on the end part of which a metal sheet is fixed. Previously, a slot is made in it so that the disc passes. There should be a cutting edge mount under the insert. To increase the reliability of the structure, this part should be welded to the metal sheet. As a result, the semblance of a tile cutter is ready. Working on such a machine, the tile is fed away from you. In this case, a tile cut into two parts is obtained.

How to properly cut tiles with a grinder?

If the question of how to cut a tile with a grinder is being decided, a number of nuances should be taken into account so as not to damage the product. In the absence of other tools and equipment (tile cutter, glass cutter, electric machine for adjusting the finishing material), you can use an angle grinder (angle grinder). Its other name is Bulgarian. It is a compact multifunctional power tool that is often used to cut ceramic or porcelain tiles.

How to avoid chips

To cut the tiles evenly and without deformations, you should adhere to the recommendations:

  • Masking tape is glued on the site of the planned cut.
  • It is recommended to work on the front side of the product, which is due to an increase in the number of chips at the exit of the cutting edge.
  • You can cut the tiles with a grinder without chips if you do not exert excessive pressure on the surface during the process.
  • To protect the cut from chipping, it is recommended to work with a thinner diamond blade.
  • The incision is made single.

The second way to connect the vacuum cleaner

This method consists in connecting a construction vacuum cleaner to the grinder using improvised means.

For this you will need:

polypropylene drainage branch with a diameter of 50mm, at 45 degrees;

reinforced scotch tape (for greater reliability);

good quality masking tape.

The described components for this method can be replaced by any suitable analogs.

Concrete wet cutting technology

The use of water allows you to cut concrete with a “grinder” without dust and overheating of the tool. The technology allows to solve several problems at once:

  • increase the resource of the diamond tip,
  • avoid dust formation,
  • increase the speed of work.

One way to keep the water flowing continuously is to secure the hose so that the liquid flows onto the disc. If there is no plumbing in the working area, an assistant can be involved in the process. He will use a primitive plastic bottle fixture to wet the circle. At the same time, the incision site is moistened with a liquid. This must be done carefully so that water is not poured into the instrument.

The method is not very applicable in multi-storey buildings, since there is a risk of flooding the neighbors from below.

Knock out a new doorway, cut through the electrical wiring, or demolish part of the wall between the loggia and the room. For this, a grinder is often used. And whoever used it knows that it turns out to be a lot of dust. What can be done about it?

The safest thing to do is to use industrial dust extraction systems. This is the case about which they write in advertisements “dust-free strobing” and all that. This will require 1) a dust cover, 2) an industrial vacuum cleaner.

However, these are all professional systems that are not cheap. Therefore, naturally, I want to replace them with something that can be assembled for 2 rubles with my own hands. Well, what is there, to the existing casing, screw another plate on the side. So that the disc is closed on both sides. Or like this.

Attach the hose from the vacuum cleaner to the end. and you’re done. But here is the difficulty: an ordinary household vacuum cleaner will bend over very quickly from such experiments. Fine concrete dust will do its job. Alternatively, you can assemble a two-stage system. Where the first stage will be a bottle of water, in which all the dust will settle.

If it is impossible to use a vacuum cleaner, only half measures remain. The screed to be cut can be wetted abundantly, hoping that the wet grains of sand will not scatter so much.

Although there will still be dust. And all that is possible is to somehow reduce the effect of the transformation of the apartment in the last days of Pompeii. Limit the work area to one room, plug the gap under the door with a wet rag. To prevent the dust from scattering far, you can ask someone to pour water under the blade at the cutting site (only suitable for a diamond blade, and even then not quite). You can also wet the sheet and hang it nearby. Concrete dust is very fine, ordinary polyethylene hardly retains it.

And as an option. try to do without a grinder altogether. If the dust cannot be dealt with. So, you can move the doorway with a puncher. Through holes are drilled at the mark with a 12th or 14th drill. Then the rest of the wall is broken with a chisel (on the same perforator). There will be enough trash, but probably less dust.

During repair or construction, sometimes it is required to carry out work on concrete: cut out an opening for a window, a niche, and gouge walls for wiring. The craftsmen know how many small particles are formed in this case. Cleaning after such events is a very laborious task. We offer you to figure out whether it is possible to cut concrete without dust and how to organize this process.

The first way is wetting

How to choose a disc for a “grinder

Concrete is a durable material, so it is quite difficult to work with it. To perform cutting, a grinder (angle grinder) is most often used. This tool is better known in everyday life as “Bulgarian”.

A diamond wheel is used as a nozzle. Depending on the design features, they are divided into several varieties:

  • segmental,
  • solid;
  • combined (turbocharged).

The first option is a solid base with a segmented edge. Such a circle is notable for its low cost, but is not very suitable for working with durable materials. It should also be taken into account that it is used only for dry cutting. The solid disc has a continuous diamond edge so that no chipping occurs during operation. Such a nozzle heats up quickly, so it must be cooled with a continuous water jet.

The combination or turbo diamond blade is versatile. It can handle the maximum load and is even suitable for cutting reinforced concrete.

Before buying a nozzle of the right type, you need to figure out what material you will have to work with. Reinforced concrete is reinforced with metal rods, which in the process the cutter can stumble upon. Therefore, if a deepening of more than 10 cm is assumed, use discs of increased strength, that is, turbocharged. Fresh concrete is more abrasive, over time the material hardens, its strength increases. This factor should also be taken into account when choosing a circle for cutting.

Segments of the disc are attached to the blade with silver solder or laser welding. The first option is more suitable for wet cutting, the second is used only for dry cutting. When choosing a suitable diamond wheel, you should pay attention to its diameter, which should match the parameters of the angle grinder. The rotational speed of the disk is also an important criterion. It is better if it is higher than the maximum possible indicator stated in the technical characteristics of the “grinder”. This will ensure optimal operation.

Like all other tools, grinders are divided into classes, into professional and household tools, as well as by their design features.

This is perhaps the most widely used tool outside of the drill. Many people work with angle grinders, but not everyone asks about the correctness of the manipulations performed, from the point of view of personal safety and quality of work. In this article, we want to devote you to the basic subtleties of working with this tool and consider in detail the following questions:

Let’s go in order.

HOW TO CUT CORRECTLY WITH A BULGARIAN?

Before you get started, you need to prepare the grinder. We mean the choice of rig (disc). The following points should be considered here:

  • Disc diameter. Remember, the smaller the diameter of the disc, the more revolutions (higher rotational speed) it can withstand, and vice versa.
  • The choice of disc depends, first of all, on the material with which you plan to work and the design features of your instrument.
  • Pay close attention to the legend and markings on the disc. Having carefully studied them, you will understand whether the selected equipment is suitable for the proposed work.

Also, always follow safety precautions and wear special equipment such as gloves, goggles, long sleeved robes and closed shoes.

First of all, clear the workplace of unnecessary items. Securely fix the workpiece to be processed, having previously marked it on it, if necessary. Getting Started.

Always hold the tool firmly and confidently with both hands. Take a steady body position. You need to stand so that sparks, in the process of work, do not fly on clothes, and even more so in the face.

Always remember about such a thing as kickback. This is the most dangerous thing that can happen when working with a grinder. It can occur if the disc is strongly jammed in the workpiece. In such a situation, the angle grinder will sharply throw back. Monitor the process to avoid this.

Also remember that the power cord of the angle grinder must be isolated from sparks hitting it during operation. If you need to move the instrument to a different work surface, be sure to turn it off first, then unplug the power cord. The same should be done in the event of a power outage. As soon as there is no electricity, turn off the tool and then unplug it from the mains. If this is not done, then when the power is resumed, the grinder will start working in a chaotic mode again and can cause irreparable harm to your health, others or damage objects around.

The most frequently asked question that arises among novice craftsmen is the following: How to cut correctly with a grinder: for yourself or for yourself? Many do not betray this special significance, but in vain.

Bulgarian manufacturers advise their consumers the following: You need to work with the tool in such a way that the stroke (direction) of the cut coincides with the direction of rotation of the disc.

Experienced craftsmen have a clear answer to this question: You need to make a cut from yourself. This is for your safety. If the grinder is torn out of your hands, the tool will be thrown in the opposite direction from you. If you cut in the direction of yourself, when the above situation occurs, the tool will fly to your feet. We will not describe the consequences. You can imagine them yourself.

If you are cutting parts or workpieces that have thick metal, cut them in an extremely straight line.

When working on a part such as a corner or when cutting a profile or profile tube, which are usually quite long, cut the overhanging edge. Otherwise, if you make a cut in the place between the supports, an outcome such as a jamming of the disc due to the deflection of the workpiece is possible.

If you are cutting a corrugated sheet (sheet metal sheeting), metal siding (metal siding) or metal tiles, take care of the presence of special anti-corrosion substances that need to be lubricated in order to avoid sudden corrosion.

In case you are cutting paving slabs or paving stones, get a special diamond cut disc.

Reinforced concrete, concrete and other similar materials must be processed with special discs for stone.

If you need to cut a gas or oxygen cylinder, be very careful as it may explode due to the remaining trace of gas or condensation. It is better not to carry out such work at home.

If you need to cut glass or, for example, a mirror. the most trivial ceramic disc will suit you.

When working with material such as wave slate, do not apply extra effort to avoid chipping and unevenness.

It is possible to process rubber with a grinder, but unnecessary. If you understand what we mean.

Grooves, springs, fittings or channel can also be cut with angle grinders.

Need to cut drywall or polycarbonate? Do this very carefully to avoid chipping and breaking the material. You will need neatness if you need to cut glass mosaics. For example, if you are cutting off excess parts from a pasted arch, cover the cut and the part to be cut with masking tape or construction tape. This minimizes the possibility of cracks and prevents debris from scattering on the floor after cutting.

HOW TO CUT A BULGARIAN TILE WITHOUT CHIPS?

As we said above, the range of application of angle grinders is incredibly wide. She also acts as an excellent helper when cutting material such as tiles or tiles. But, a logical question arises regarding the equipment: How is it better to work on tiles? To carry out this type of work, you need to get a grinding diamond wheel and a tile holder. It is hardly possible to work without dust with this material, so take care of a protective mask in advance.

Let’s take a closer look at the process itself and methods of cutting tiles or tiles without chips.

  • The easiest way is to cut straight. Fix the tile well so that its edge remains in weight along the cutting line and get to work.
  • The next method to be noted is cutting at a 45 angle. This method is more complicated than the first one. First, we cut the ceramic tiles with a straight cut. Then, when cutting, we direct the grinder disc at an angle and remove the unnecessary part. Next, we grind the cut with sandpaper.

HOW IT IS CORRECT TO CUT BULGARIAN METAL?

To begin with, let’s talk about the dangers that await the master when cutting metal with a grinder, namely:

  • Fragments of the disk, in the event of its fracture;
  • Powerful stream of sparks and small abrasive particles;
  • In some cases, the inability to hold the instrument in the hands.

Now, a few tips for working with metal.

If you have no experience in this type of work, then, for a start, it is worth practicing on unnecessary details. If in the process of work, you decide to change the cutting plane when the disc is inside the workpiece, this will immediately lead to its breakage.

To increase the life of discs, especially expensive ones, they need to be cooled. This is done with water. It is necessary to water the cutting area. It is advisable that you work with a partner who will carry out all these additional manipulations.

Also, to increase the service life of the equipment, and the tool itself, breaks of 5-7 minutes every 20-30 minutes of work will help. This rule is especially important when working with household grinders. This way you will protect your instrument from overheating.

You should also remember that you should not put pressure on the grinder during operation, otherwise it may fail due to overheating, or the disc will jam. If you feel that the performance is too slow, try changing the drive.

IS IT POSSIBLE FOR A BULGARIAN TO CUT TREE?

Many experienced craftsmen claim that cutting wood with a grinder is to be. Our opinion: indeed, it is possible to cut wood with a grinder, but it is extremely unsafe, inconvenient, slow and of poor quality. And that’s why.

Firstly, during operation, the grinder disc gets very hot and becomes incredibly fragile. The slightest misalignment may result in a ruptured disc. You can find out about the consequences of this situation from the pictures on the Internet.

Secondly, when working with a disc equipped with victorious solders, these solders can easily end up under the skin. And this is a direct way to the hospital, because you cannot remove them on your own, plus everything is fraught with infection.

Thirdly, when using a disc on wood, the teeth can grab more wood than you expect, and this, in turn, will lead to that. that the grinder will simply be snatched out of your hands. It is very dangerous!

We hope we have explained in an accessible way why you cannot use angle grinders when carrying out woodwork and you will not even try.

But, as practice shows, many craftsmen at home resort to the help of a grinder in the process of processing materials such as chipboard, chipboard, laminate, OSB plate or plywood. This should be cut as carefully as possible and in compliance with all safety measures. Otherwise, you can not only spoil the material, but also be injured.

HOW EXACTLY CUT BULGARIAN?

In order not to spoil the workpiece and make a high-quality even cut with a grinder, you will need to perform a number of preparatory measures, which we will discuss in this part of the article.

  • Markup. All ingenious is simple. first we mark, then we cut. Take pipe cutting as an example. First, use a chalk or marker to apply the size, then use paper or duct tape. The main thing is that the edge is even. We take the selected auxiliary material and carefully wrap it around the pipe. Its border will be a clear and accurate marking of the cut. When performing work, it is important to remember that under no circumstances should you change the position of the tool stroke. Otherwise, the disc may jam or break. Also, do not put additional pressure on the tool, as this will immediately be reflected in the curvature of the cut and spoil your workpiece.
  • It is very important to choose the right thickness of the circle. There is a simple axiom at work: the thicker the material with which you work, the thicker the disc should be. When choosing tooling, consult an expert in the field and pay attention to the marking of the grinding wheel applied to his shirt.

HOW TO CUT SAFELY WITH A BULGARIAN?

Working as a grinder is a business that requires constant attention and control, because the consequences of accidents are irreversible. Therefore, before starting work, take care of the following:

  • Take care of the protection of all parts of the body: face, hands, eyes.
  • Clean the workspace from excess, especially the place where the sparks fly out, remove all combustible materials away.
  • The workpiece to be machined must always be securely clamped.
  • Be sure to install the protective cover.
  • Hold the tool firmly while working.
  • At the end of the work, wait until the rotation of the disc has stopped completely, put the grinder with the disc facing up so as not to damage it, unplug the tool from the mains and make sure that there is no smoke and signs of fire.

WHAT CANNOT BE CUT WITH A BULGARIAN? BASIC ERRORS

The list below shows the materials with which you can work with the grinder. It is forbidden to work with materials that are not on the list.

  • The angle grinder will perfectly cope with cutting materials such as cast iron, metal, steel, copper, aluminum, iron, titanium. You can cut stainless steel or galvanized.
  • With the appropriate attachments, you can also work with plastics, ceramics, glass, plexiglass and porcelain.
  • Stone, granite, marble, asphalt, concrete or a wall made of it, brick, porcelain stoneware can also be processed with a grinder.

The angle grinder is useful if you need to cut off water pipes or old heating.

One of the main factors that guarantee the quality of work is the right tooling. If you have any questions or want to purchase discs, please contact our managers at the specified phone numbers. They will recommend suitable discs and advise you on all questions of interest.

Concrete cutting with floor saws

Seam cutters are also often used for tasks of this kind. There are some features that it is advisable to study.

Key features of concrete cutting with a floor saw:

  • Usually one of two types of productive equipment is used. gasoline / electric. The latter option requires a connection to the network, gasoline units can be used anywhere (in the field, in open areas, to create expansion joints in the road surface, etc.).
  • It is necessary to provide a supply of cooling water at a high pressure, which will eliminate the risk of overheating and reduce the volume of dust.
  • For gasoline devices, it is important to ensure the possibility of ventilation of the supply and exhaust type, if work is carried out in a closed room.
  • Electrical equipment will need a 380V AC connection.

Dust-free concrete cutting: how to saw with a grinder with your own hands, a tool

Cutting concrete without dust is practically impossible, since in the process of sawing and processing stone, one way or another, a lot of dust appears, the volume of which can only be reduced. But it is also advisable to do this, since too much dust in the process of performing work brings a lot of troubles: it spoils the tool and blunts parts, settles in the lungs and on all surfaces in the room.

With the use of modern equipment, it has become easier to cut concrete. there are special cutting tools, consumables for them. Devices can be hand-held or stationary, powered by electricity or other sources. As a rule, all concrete cutting tools are equipped with diamond parts. chains, discs, crowns, brazing, etc.

Cutting concrete with hand tools

Due to the strength of the material, not every hand tool is suitable for working with it. Most often, an angle grinder is used for these purposes (aka UShS, Bulgarian). For cutting concrete, a special nozzle is used in the form of a diamond wheel, which can be solid, segmental, combined.

Types of diamond wheels for a grinder with which you can cut concrete:

  • Solid. made with a continuous diamond cutting edge, so that chips do not appear in the work. The nozzle heats up periodically, therefore it requires constant cooling with a stream of water.
  • Segmented disc. solid base, segmented edge. The wheel is inexpensive, but wears out quickly from durable materials. Used exclusively for dry cutting.
  • Combined (aka turbo-diamond) disc. considered universal, capable of withstanding maximum loads, even reinforced concrete can be cut with it.

The attachments are selected in accordance with the material to be cut, as well as taking into account the type of work and conditions. Reinforced concrete with depressions more than 10 centimeters is cut only with high-strength discs (turbocharged). All segments of the disc are attached to the blade by laser welding or silver soldering. The first can only be used for dry cutting, the second. wet.

The wheel should be made with an inner diameter corresponding to the diameter of the angle grinder. The rotational speed of the disk is also important. it is desirable that it be higher than the indicator of the grinder. Depending on the type of cutting selected and the correct selection of the tool, the amount of dust that appears during work may vary.

So, if you cut concrete for a long time with an insufficiently strong and ineffective tool with nozzles, there will be a lot of dust, and the result is minimal. You can reduce the amount of dust by using the wet cutting method. water prevents the tool from overheating and prevents the formation of dust. So it is possible to speed up the work and increase the resource of the diamond tip.

The water supply can be organized in different ways. from spraying concrete with a spray gun periodically during work to fixing the hose to the tool so that the liquid flows in a continuous stream onto the disc.

A convenient attachment is made from an ordinary plastic canister. You will also need a cutter, a container of the desired size, the neck of which, in its diameter, will dock with the hose of the vacuum cleaner.

Further, on both sides, you need to make mounting holes so that you can easily change the direction of rotation of the disk. A slot of a suitable size is made for the circle, and another hole is cut for mounting the cutter. Carefully connect the hose to the neck of the canister, then fasten it with a transition ring with a clamp. The grinder is sent to the casing, all elements are securely connected. The hole that is not in use is closed with a lid.

To make the cut even, you first need to apply a markup, then wooden blocks are attached along the line. After that, you need to make a shallow cut up to 1 centimeter, remove the limiters, and continue working. All manipulations must be performed exclusively in a respirator, goggles, gloves, overalls.

Cutting concrete with ropes

This method is used less often than all of the above, but is also relevant when performing certain work.

How concrete is cut using special ropes:

  • To accomplish the task, a special rope and diamond bits are used, as well as a drive. You can cut any structure without limitation in thickness (including columns, for example).
  • For optimal operation of the equipment, it is imperative to ensure the supply of cold water under high pressure and a network with a voltage of 380V.
  • The cost of work can be different and depends on such factors: the type of material, the type and size of the opening, the thickness of the structure.
  • When using this method, a minimum amount of dust appears, and the noise is also small.
  • Wire cutting allows you to quickly cut openings of any configuration with perfectly straight edges, even where access is limited.

Is there a technology for cutting concrete without noise and dust

Thinking about what to cut concrete, you need to take care of reducing the amount of dust that inevitably appears in the process of performing work. In certain cases, nothing can be done and you have to work in difficult conditions, but in others it is quite possible to remove dust. The main thing is not to violate safety requirements and use proven methods.

Cutting concrete is a targeted mechanical action on the monolith by rotating parts of the tool. Cutting is not accompanied by impact noise, but it always involves noise from the electric motor of the tool drive and the operation of its moving parts, which cut a groove in a stone or cut reinforcement, cut into pieces, etc.

Different methods are used to cut concrete. manual, machine, wet and dry. The first two are due to the type of tool chosen, wet assumes the effect of water on the cutting part and on the concrete surface itself, the dry method does not use water supply. Regardless of the chosen cutting method, the amount of dust accompanying the process is always large enough.

The most common methods for cutting concrete are:

  • Diamond cutting of partitions and walls with a hand tool (grinder and others).
  • Diamond cutting using a stationary wall saw.
  • Diamond cutting with floor saws.
  • Use for cutting rope.

When using a hand tool (most often a grinder), you can connect a construction vacuum cleaner to it, which will suck in almost all the dust that appears during the cutting process. If there is no possibility of connecting the tool to the vacuum cleaner, everything can be done by hand.

What you need to create an adapter for a construction vacuum cleaner:

  • Sewer outlet made of polypropylene with a diameter of 50 millimeters, at 45 degrees.
  • Reinforced tape (it is more reliable).
  • High quality masking tape.

The process of creating a dust extraction attachment:

  • Install the grinder as stable as possible on a table or floor so that it lies upside down with a disk parallel to the plane of the base.
  • Take the branch with pliers or a clamp, turn on the grinder and “saw” the branch pipe along the body, 3 centimeters under the tool casing.
  • Reinforced with tape very tightly, in tightness, tie the bend to the grinder body, slightly going into the saw blade (a few centimeters). The fixing of the branch pipe must be secure so that it is fixed firmly.
  • Glue the open side of the casing with masking tape, thus connecting it to the outlet. Then you can connect a construction vacuum cleaner and remove dust during operation.

Such a system of design changes in the tool does not imply, but before using it, it is advisable to consult with a representative of the manufacturer for the possibility of making improvements.

Concrete cutting with wall saws

Wall saws are used to cut concrete on larger scale and demanding jobs. It gives less dust than a grinder, productivity and efficiency are much higher.

Features of cutting a concrete monolith with a wall saw:

  • Diamond cutting of this type is characterized by a large cutting depth, therefore it is used for industrial cutting of hatches / openings, other elements with heavy reinforcement in partitions, walls, floor slabs. Works are carried out in the shortest possible time.
  • To accomplish the task, you need to provide free one-way access from 30-35 centimeters.
  • It takes a lot of water for cooling (up to 15 liters per minute), so it should be possible to replenish stocks.
  • Waste water can be collected with a standard vacuum cleaner.
  • To operate the equipment, you need an alternating current network with a capacity of 32A and a voltage of 380V.

It is important to know

Modern manufacturers offer a variety of equipment models, so it will not be difficult to find a specific model of equipment in the regions (as well as companies or specialists who will quickly and efficiently carry out the work). But you need to remember some of the nuances.

Things to keep in mind when cutting concrete:

  • Wall saws are not used in multi-storey panel-type buildings because of the risk of flooding the lower floors with water. Also, the machine is not suitable for working in a confined space, if necessary, perform small volumes of cut.
  • To reduce noise, you can cut openings in parts (at least 6 parts). In this case, the price of work rises and depends on the number of cut pieces.
  • All holes / openings in the supporting structures are made only by certified companies and in strict accordance with the rules.
  • Legalization of hatches / openings in load-bearing walls requires an appeal to state authorities with the provision of a full package of documents.

Dust-free concrete cutting is a complex task that can only be partially achieved. It is very difficult to completely get rid of dust, but its amount can be significantly reduced thanks to the correct choice of equipment and nozzles, the cutting method, as well as the use of a construction vacuum cleaner and the creation of special devices for collecting dust.
