Is it possible to put gasoline in a chainsaw?

What kind of gasoline to use??

Since chainsaws use a two-stroke engine where it is not structurally possible to install an oil pump, pure gasoline cannot be poured into the chainsaw! Chainsaws are filled with a fuel mixture of gasoline and oil. Proportions for different saws are set by the manufacturer, the specific number is given in the instruction manual.

The question is often asked: gasoline for a chainsaw-what to pour? I will try to answer in more detail.

Is it possible to use any other kind of fuel in machines designed for 80 gasoline?

So let’s talk about that, the purely technical side of the issue. To answer this question, there are two directions:

Work cycles of these engines. different, characteristics, technical features. too. So, of course, you can not thoughtlessly apply the same to both types of these engines. In this article, we will focus specifically on two-stroke engines. If more specifically. let’s consider whether it is possible to use 92 gasoline in two-stroke engines, specifically. in the gasoline saw “Ural Elektron”. Therefore, below we will mainly talk about it. This chainsaw has a relatively low degree of compression of the fuel mixture in the engine, compared to modern chainsaws.

In general, not only chain saws have two-stroke engines, but also some motor blocks, boat motors, motor pumps, brush cutters, lawn mowers, etc.д. Where low engine weight is required, where maximum power per weight unit is important, two-stroke gasoline engines are used as a rule.

Criteria

First of all, we should outline the criteria, on the basis of which you and I will draw conclusions about whether it is possible to use a chainsaw on 92nd gasoline. This:

The first two criteria are obvious. It is clear that if we can’t start the engine without serious tricks, if we can’t work more or less fully with a chainsaw, then naturally the 92nd gasoline will obviously be inappropriate.

We will understand reliability as preservation of operating parameters of the chainsaw engine, in particular, its temperature. To be more exact, not too much excess of temperature during work of the engine, when working on 92-m petrol in comparison with 80-m.

Of course, there are other reliability factors too, like gasoline composition (would it corrode the carburettor seals for example), combustion rate, maximum pressure in the combustion chamber, tendency to detonate, etc. But, the first twothree of them are interrelated with the temperature. As for the last one, in respect of this, the 92 petrol is even better than the 80.

Is it possible to start and operate the gasoline-powered saw “Ural” with the 92nd gasoline??

Oddly enough, yes. Naturally, the petrol should be with oil in proportion of about 1:20. However, looking ahead, we’ll see that you can add not only oil. But, about that. a little later.

So the third important criterion is temperature. Exactly it defines, on the one hand, the capability of full engine performance. And, on the other hand, it also affects the reliability. Namely, if the temperature during engine operation will be too high, it will contribute to its premature failure. After all, the piston as well as the cylinder itself is made. of aluminum alloy. Which melting point is in the range of 600700 0 C. Therefore, if the temperature is too high, the engine parts can, trivially, start to melt and burn.

And what is the temperature?

Here we all say. the temperature, the temperature. And what is the? Temperature. WHAT? At a minimum, this is the exhaust gas temperature. However, there is also the temperature of the cylinder head. There is also the temperature of the working mixture in the process of combustion. the average and maximum.

Really, what do you mean by “temperature” in this case?? WHAT temperature is most relevant for engine reliability purposes?

Of course, ideally, it would be necessary to measure ALL possible temperatures, which are somehow or other related to the working engine. The problem, however, is that you would have to use special laboratory settings to do this. Since it’s quite difficult to measure, say, the maximum temperature of an ordinary average “Ural” chainsaw. After all, in order to do this, a highly sensitive and, most importantly, high-speed temperature sensor will have to be somehow placed in the head of the block. Of course it can be done. But. Difficult. Especially, for example, in the garage-home environment. For it will be necessary to drill a head of the block, to use argon welding and so on.д. And it is not the fact that after such manipulations the saw will last long.

One article, as well as many automotive textbooks, talks about at least TWO types of engine temperatures:

It should be noted that in the general case these parameters are not related to each other. It is quite possible that the block head temperature is too high, but the exhaust temperature is normal. And vice versa.

In a number of other publications, including on the Internet, on forums, alas, they often talk about either only the temperature of exhaust gases or only about the temperature of the head of the block. Probably, it is a consequence of either the lack of desire to understand the question or the lack of opportunities to search and analyze information.

So, let’s take both of the just listed temperatures as the temperature criterion. Let us assume, as a dogma, that if both these temperatures are within the permissible limits, then the other temperatures and, consequently, the reliability of the two-stroke gasoline engine will also be within the stipulated limits, t.е. in norm.

How to run in a chainsaw correctly

Today chain saws are produced by different manufacturers (well-known ones are STIHL, Husqvarna, Makita, Interskol and others, and by less-known producers. Carver, ECHO etc).п.), but the running in process will be the same for all devices. It represents the performance of the following actions:

  • After starting the engine, let it run for 3 minutes (until it warms up) while regularly accelerating. It is strongly prohibited to leave the chainsaw idling all the time. Whoever advises you to do it, however, this approach is fundamentally wrong.
  • Begin to saw small logs (gradually increase their diameter), which is done at lowered values of high RPM (lower by 600-700 RPM from the maximum value).
  • Every 5 minutes of cutting logs take a break. During the sawing process you should also make pauses, for example, cut off one log and let the tool to work on idle for 15-30 seconds, after that we continue further. After 5 minutes of sawing let the engine idle again, then stop it and let the tool cool down.
  • If it is a domestic chainsaw, then the engine should be shut down and let it cool down for 20-30 minutes. For professional and semi-professional machines, a break is taken in the form of a 5-minute engine pause.

With each successive tank it is necessary to increase the duration of engine operation. This only applies to professional and semi-professional machines. Domestic chain saws should be run-in with extreme care and should not overheat. It is better to run the engine more often and let it run for a short time than the other way around.

It is important to respect the proportions of oil and gasoline. If there is not enough lubrication, the rubbing parts will begin to wear out, which will eventually lead to jamming of the tool. If there is too much oil, the engine will begin to smoke strongly, which will cause it to become covered in carbon deposits and its performance will decrease.

The correct proportions are given by each manufacturer in the operator’s manual. This varies from saw to saw. For example, STIHL, Husqvarna, FUBAG and Champion units have an oil to gasoline ratio of 1:50 most often, but PARTNER and Makita units have 1:40. Huter recommends observing the proportions indicated on the oil bottle, the main thing is that it is suitable for air-cooled two-stroke motors.

Why it is necessary to adhere to the appropriate proportions when mixing

Having determined in the question of the need to mix gasoline and oil in a chainsaw, it will be necessary to find out why it is necessary to adhere to the appropriate proportions when mixing the fuel mixture in the chainsaw.

  • If you pour gasoline with a low composition of oil, it will contribute to the development of all of the above consequences. the overheating of the motor, the occurrence of scuffing on the cylinder and jamming of the internal combustion engine. Only in this case the engine will work a bit longer than with pure petrol.
  • If you fill the fuel tank with a lot of oil, it is also dangerous, because in this case, in addition to strong smoke, deposition of soot on the walls of the cylinders, muffler and other parts will be observed. Lower power output and reduced machine performance. In this case the engine will work longer, and in case of deposits they can be removed.

To exclude negative consequences, and at the same time increase the operational resource of the tool, it is recommended to understand how much oil to add to gasoline for chainsaws to achieve the ideal operation of the motor.

How long can you store a diluted mixture

The prepared mixture can be stored up to 3 months from the date of preparation. this is because of the possibility of stratification of the components, as well as slow decomposition reactions. Accumulated decomposition products of oil and gasoline can damage the engine and put the chainsaw out of operation.

In general, it is not recommended to store the gasoline-oil mixture, and each time before using the tool prepare a fresh batch.

Good to know

You need to make fuel, counting on 3 refueling. After all, storing large amounts of fuel can have a negative effect on the chainsaw’s performance. The mixture can behave differently, because it will be influenced by many factors. Your domestic power tool could be seriously damaged, which could result in financial costs.

Sometimes even the capacity can affect the quality of the fluid. Plastic and glass react with gasoline, which can create a risk of sudden ignition.

It is important to remember that if your chainsaw breaks down because of poor or improper mixture, it will not be possible to repair it under warranty.

You should not store the fluid for more than a month because it will oxidize. After working with the chainsaw, use up the remaining fuel, turn off the engine, and remove the fuel mixture.

What gasoline should be poured into a chainsaw

Hello! Good to see you, dear readers and subscribers of Andrew Noack’s blog. Anyone who owns a chainsaw already knows exactly what gasoline is and how to fill it. But for someone who wants to purchase such a unit, the article will seem interesting.

Chainsaw. One of the most convenient and versatile household appliances. Before using it, you need to prepare the fuel mixture. But in order for the device to work properly, you need to follow all the manufacturer’s recommendations. Each model is different, and which gasoline pours into the chainsaw?

By Brands

For modern brands, such as Husqvarna, Partner, Makita, Echo, Calm are suitable for AI-92 gasoline. Today, a huge number of people complain about premature chain saw failure due to bad gasoline. That’s why some experts recommend that AI-95 gasoline be infused into such chainsaws. At the same time, a good AI-95 can “burn the piston,” and again a number of people have compromised and mixed AI-95 with AI-92. In general, it all depends on the quality of the gasoline and, ultimately, you decide.

For domestic devices, Ural, Druzhba it is recommended to take AI-80 gasoline. It is very important that the fuel consumption is minimal.

Make Mix: Important Proportions

With a two-stroke engine, clean fuel is purchased separately and mixed with oil, often in proportions of 1:50. It is not structurally possible to install an oil pump in this engine, so it is strictly forbidden to pour gasoline into the chainsaw! Proportions, quantities, and some grades specified by the manufacturer in the owner’s manual.

  • Internal chainsaws work with M8-B, M-12 TPU, M8-B, TP, MHD-14M oil. In some cases you can use external options;
  • Proportions: 2.5 liters of FI-80 gasoline per 100 grams of oil;
  • Foreign models are characterized by minimal fuel consumption. They run on someone else’s oil, and their proportions become 1:40 or 1:50.

Fuel mixture

To properly prepare the fuel, you will need a list of additional tools:

  • A plastic or metal container to dilute the substance;
  • A measuring bottle for gasoline;
  • Sprayer;
  • Syringe;
  • Watering to fill your chainsaw.

Some manufacturers, such as STIHL, immediately make measuring containers to measure the fuel mixture more easily.

Different manufacturers produce different shades of oil. HP manufacturer produces red fluid. Green shade oil is the premium segment of “synthetic”. For a Husqvarna chainsaw, you need to get the right oil. It is expensive, of good quality and comes in green or blue.

What kind of gasoline should I fill with 92 or 95?

We tell you all about the fuel mix for petrol tools. We will spread popular myths and give answers to the biggest.

Main. correctly calculate the proportions of the mixture. Excessive oil can form carbon deposits on pistons and spark plugs. Excessive gasoline

Can cause engine damage or clogged pistons. Each manufacturer gives different proportions to models of different power.

Additional accessories are needed to mix the components. You can also find special canisters with two holes for oil and gasoline on sale. It’s very simple here, we pour in the ingredients, tighten the lid tightly and mix by tilting the container. You can use glass and plastic bottles.

Keep water or dust out of the fuel mixture.

Good to know

The fuel must be prepared, counting for 3 refills. After storing large quantities of fuel can adversely affect chainsaw performance. The mixture can behave differently because it will be affected by many factors. As a result, your household can get a serious breakdown, which will incur financial costs.

Sometimes even the power can affect the quality of the fluid. Plastics and glass react with gasoline, which can create the risk of sudden ignition.

It’s important to remember that if a chainsaw malfunctions due to poor quality or improper mixing, you can’t restore the factory warranty.

The finished fluid cannot be stored for more than one month because of the oxidation process. After working with your chainsaw, you need to use the remaining fuel, turn off the engine, and remove the remaining fuel mixture.

Fuel consumption

One of the most important questions that tool owners have is because everyone wants to know what to expect.

Almost all containers have a volume of about 500 ml. If your chainsaw has a power rating of 2 kW, it will consume about 1,2 liters of fuel per hour. If you put it simply, such a tool will be able to work at maximum speed for half an hour without interruption. If your chain saw

is not as strong, then the volume of the tank will be smaller. In this way, the user can control the fuel consumption himself.

Over time, the user will learn without any help to maintain their tool. The main task will be to keep the economic unit in good working order by using high quality fuel mixtures. Observe the safety rules when preparing the flammable liquid. This will help to preserve the tool, and not harm yourself and the environment.

Helpful hints:

  • Sometimes it’s better to pour oil rather than regret. If you give a little more oil than the instructions say, then nothing bad will happen. Sludge formation is possible in the case of large amounts of oil, and if the specified proportions are not observed;
  • Keep the ready mix better for a month and no more, because for some reason it will lose its qualities;
  • The right way to finish the job. You need to use or drain the contents of the reservoir so you can extend the life of the rubber and plastic seals;
  • There is no need to use chainsaw oil designed for mopeds because it is designed for low speed.

The proper operation of your equipment is up to you. First, do not disregard the suppliers’ indices or, at the very least, the instructions on the oil package. This will help avoid unpleasant situations. Your neighbor doesn’t always know the best way to do this. The cheapness of oil and gasoline is not an indication of high quality, because destroying a tool can cost a lot more (about 80% of the cost of a chainsaw) than the fuel saved on the fuel mixture.

How long you can store the diluted prepared mixture

The standard shelf life of a prepared oil and gasoline mixture is 1 month. Chainsaw manufacturers recommend in the instruction manuals not to prepare large amounts of fuel mixture. The best option is to prepare the mixture for work and full exhaust, and then re-pour the fuel if necessary.

In the gasoline tank of the gasoline saw, the mixture should not be stored for more than two-three weeks. When not using the tool, it is recommended to drain the fuel and dry the tank.
