Refueling The Trimmer

Types and features of trimmer lines Which trimmer line is better? What does the thickness of the cord affect? Overview of fishing line for trimmers:, types and features, refueling, advantages

Which trimmer line is better?

To answer this common question, you need to consider the main operating parameters of the cutting cord one by one.

These include:

  • Thickness the larger the diameter of the line, the higher its efficiency when working with thick weeds;
  • Cross-section cords with twisted and round sections have proven themselves the best. Another popular star option. Cords with this type of cross-section successfully cope with tall dense grass and young shrubs;
  • Manufacturer cutting cords from the Husqvarna and Stihl brands stand out for their high quality, strength and durability. Their only drawback is the high price. In such cases, you can choose inexpensive cords from the brands Sturm, Forte or Intertool.

When choosing a fishing line, it is desirable that the gardener has the opportunity to check the cord with his own hands. It is important to stretch the cutting line and try to break it. If the line does not give in, then it will be able to withstand a fairly high load.

What does the thickness of the cord affect?

The diameter of the line depends on its effectiveness when cutting various types of wild vegetation.

Today on the market you can find cords of the following thickness:

  • 1.6 mm line for cutting young soft grass;
  • 2 mm cord with this thickness is mainly used for mowing young wild vegetation and small weeds;
  • 2.4 mm This line is designed for removing young weeds and mowing large volumes of overripe wild vegetation;
  • 2.7 mm cord of this type is used for effective control of large weeds;
  • This 3mm line is effective in removing small shrubs and thick old weeds;
  • 3.3 mm This cutting cord is suitable for the removal of thin shoots from young wild trees;
  • This 4 mm thick line allows it to cut large woody weeds and thick shoots of wild trees.

It is important to remember that the larger the diameter of the cutting line, the higher its noise during operation. In addition, thick lines should only be used on high power trimmers. For example, only mowing heads with a cord thickness of less than 2 mm can be used on electric line and knife trimmers. Otherwise, the garden tool engine will overheat quickly.

How to insert line into the trimmer?

There are 2 common ways to wind the cutting line onto the trimmer reel, depending on the type of mowing head. To select the appropriate method, you need to study the design features of the spool, this will help you understand how to insert the cutting line into the trimmer spool faster and easier.

Thick line

A little advice. Try not to let the line come into contact with hard objects when cutting. With this contact, the line will be cut. And since in this trimmer the line is not fed automatically, then every time you have to stop work, remove the reel and release the line again.

We fill the line in the trimmer.

I want to devote today’s article to the sore subject of summer residents and gardeners of the entire post-Soviet space How to fill the line in the trimmer. Not many trimmer manufacturers answer this question in their instruction manuals. Therefore, it is difficult for simple gardeners to figure out how to do it correctly.

I want to start with a brief description of the technical characteristics of the trimmers.

So, trimmers are electric and gasoline. The cutting element for trimmers can be a line and a knife. The line is ordinary, four. Pentahedral and intertwined (in the form of a pigtail). Knives come in 2, 3 and 4 bladed knives. There are also plastic and metal knives.

The line feed system from the trimmer is manual, semi-automatic and automatic.

The development engineers who create new models of trimmers clearly calculate the diameter (thickness) of the line and the number of knife blades, according to the power of the trimmers. Otherwise, the motor is overloaded, resulting in damage. And these are additional and significant costs.

Trimmers on the market today:

With one nozzle only with a line.
With two line nozzles and three-four-blade knife.
With one nozzle only three-four-bladed knife.

Our Kulibins long ago learned to improve any mechanisms. So, for example, some gardeners make successful, in their opinion, replacement of fishing line with a metal cable, or fishing line. But at the same time, they do not think about the safety of their own and their loved ones, because, like a cable with the power of a working trimmer, it can easily break out and not only injure the mower and others, but leave him crippled for life. Using a fishing line can and gives a better effect, I have never personally tried it than a trimmer line, but such work has a number of inconveniences: when it comes into contact with hard objects, it loosens or can simply be pulled out of the reel without limit.

So, what is called closer to the topic. Here is an example of how to thread the line into the trimmer (Trimmer BOSCH Art 30). Everything is very simple. We started.

  • After you have chosen the line for refueling, you need to cut off the required amount of line, because all the line in the skein will not be wound into the reel.
  • Cut off and start winding.
  • Remove the coil and the protective cover from the coil.
  • They took it off. We fasten one end of the line into the gap and carefully and evenly wind the line.
  • The amount of line should be such that the protective cover of the reel closes and the line on the reel unwinds a little by itself.
  • We put the other end of the line into the hole in the protective casing.
  • Next, we take the coil and the protective cover of the coil. We squirt the end of the line from the reel into the metal hole on the protective cover of the reel. We tighten the line a little.
  • We put it all on the trimmer. Turn the coil clockwise until it clicks.
  • They fixed it. Now we connect the trimmer to the network. We put the trimmer in the starting position for work. We turn on the trimmer. Excessive line length will be cut with the trimmer blade.
  • Coil in trimmer
  • That’s all we start working.

How to wind line on a trimmer reel: key points

A gasoline or electric trimmer is an indispensable tool in the arsenal of a modern summer resident or owner of his own home.

Thanks to these gardening devices, even a large garden plot can be mowed with ease. After purchasing this tool and performing several mows, many people think about how to properly wind the line on the trimmer spool. For an inexperienced user, the first operation to replace it will seem problematic and time-consuming, since the developers often do not fully reflect the instructions for changing the line in the operating manual.

Preparing to wind the line

Before the winding process, it is necessary to remove the spool with line from the body. Depending on the manufacturer, power and type (electric or gasoline), there are three design types of trimmers:

  • Compact electric trimmers.

Straight bar trimmer

This model provides the ability to install a knife. Removing the coil in such models is done by means of two keys recessed into the coil body. To mount the trimmer knife, it is necessary to align the hole of the reel and the rod, and then insert the device in the form of a steel pin (screwdriver, iron bar). After fixing the coil, the body can be easily twisted clockwise by hand.

Single-barbed trimmer spool

Single-barb lawn mowers reel

Many owners and experts note the ease of use and ease of refueling the bobbin with one mustache. Depending on the manufacturer, the length of the threaded line can vary from 2 to 5 meters. The end of the line is inserted into the head into a special technological groove or hole, and the winding is done in the direction opposite to the working rotation of the bobbin. Most reels have arrow marks on the outside of the body that indicate the direction of travel of the trimmer reel.

After winding, you need to leave a free end of 15-30 cm to enhance the centrifugal force, which is decisive when removing the trimmer line in automatic and semi-automatic spools. We pass the left end through the working hole of the coil and assemble the head.

Fuel mixture: the proportion of oil and gasoline for the chainsaw

The chainsaw engine is the heart of the tool, so it is very important to use a properly prepared fuel mixture.

Chainsaw fuel mixture prepared from two compound oil and gasoline. Chainsaws are equipped with two-stroke engines, so oil is not added to the lubrication system (like a four-stroke engine), but directly to gasoline. In this case, it is very important to observe the correct proportions of the ingredients, of course, in no case try to work on pure gasoline, because in this way you will very quickly kill the chainsaw.

If we talk about what kind of gasoline to pour into the chainsaw, then it will be optimal to use fuel with an octane number A-95, in this case, fuel savings can turn out to be deplorable. Often European manufacturers indicate that it is possible to use A-90 or A-92 gasoline, but in post-Soviet countries the quality of gasoline is inferior to that of Europe, so in our realities it is better to use higher quality gasoline.

As for the proportions of petrol-oil mixture, then everything is simple: you need to follow the instructions for the tool. All manufacturers of chainsaws indicate the required ratio in the instruction manual or in the passport of the tool, in addition, the proportions for refueling the chainsaw may differ depending on the model of the chain saw. As a rule, the proportion of oil and gasoline to a chainsaw of famous manufacturers is a ratio of 1:40 or 1:50, which means 1 part of oil for, for example, 40 parts of gasoline. Now arithmetic 1 liter of gasoline = 1000 ml of gasoline, divide by 40 and we get 25ml of oil. If you follow the same steps for the ratio 1:50, then we get 20 ml of oil per 1 liter of gasoline. As for budget chainsaws made in China, the situation is slightly different. The ratio of gasoline to chainsaw oil made in China 1:25, that is, divide 1000 ml of gasoline by 25, we get 40 ml of oil. The thing is that in branded chainsaws, a solid assembly and the distance between pistons and cylinders in the engine is much less than that of Chinese chainsaws, therefore, the required amount of oil differs almost twice.

Use a conventional medical syringe with sufficient volume to measure the correct amount of oil.

Another subtlety Fill a dry gasoline can with gasoline first, then oil. The procedure, on the contrary, is fraught with a low quality fuel mixture, because the oil is more dense, it will stick to the bottom of the canister, what a good mixing there is.

Be sure to prepare the fuel mixture in a canister and pour ready-made special fuel into the gas tank! Never cook or mix it directly in the fuel tank of your chainsaw!

If you figured out the question of how to breed gasoline for a chainsaw, then storage conditions and shelf life of the fuel mixture it is worth saying a few words. It is best and easiest to prepare a petrol-oil mixture for 1 liter of gasoline, it is recommended to do this immediately before working with the tool. Chainsaw fuel tanks have a volume of 0.3 to 1 liter. In the conditions of domestic use, the entire volume of the prepared combustible mixture is rarely used in one session, so the remainder can be saved until the next session. It is necessary to store the fuel mixture in a special canister for gasoline, in a dry, dark place. It is optimal to count that shelf life of the finished mixture will be 7-10 days. The fact is that the oil on the market now is not synthetic, but organic, that is, natural. After 10 days, all lubricating properties are lost, gasoline simply eats up the oil. Naturally, it is no longer possible to use such fuel, this can cause breakdown and failure of the chainsaw.

At the end of the work, it is necessary to drain the fuel mixture, start the chainsaw, the tool will stall (so that the saw has a dry carburetor) and now you can leave it until the next operation.

Dispose of unsuitable fuel mixture.

How the trimmer works and how to use it correctly: refueling and first start

Lawn mowers are devices that make it easy to maintain lawns. The question of how to use the trimmer is asked by those buyers who are just going to purchase a garden tool. The industry produces devices of different types, so when choosing, you need to pay attention to their characteristics.

How to use the trimmer correctly

Garden trimmers are efficient. Newbies think it’s easy to operate a lawnmower by plugging it in or pouring fuel, but that’s not entirely true.

The efficiency of the garden tool and its service life directly depend on the operating conditions. Therefore, before using the trimmer, you need to do some preparatory work.

The lawn from which you need to mow the grass is carefully examined. Glass and large stones must be removed. When flying out from under a running mower, they can injure a person. Wire is removed from the lawn, because it can wrap around the rotating element and break the mower.

After that, proceed to the installation of the cutting system. There are low power trimmers on the market that only use line. It is designed for cutting juicy and soft grass. But there are models with a capacity of more than 1 kilowatt, on which metal knives are installed. They cut off sow thistle and other hard weeds, trim young shrubs.

In order to replace the cord with knives, you need to unscrew the fastening nut, install the cutting element. Then the nut must be returned to its place, tightened with a wrench.

The operator must take care of his own safety. Mow the grass in heavy protective clothing. Special goggles are used to protect the eyes; they will protect against dust, grass and flying debris. Hands are covered with gloves.

The electric trimmer is plugged into the network, and battery models are charged for several hours before use. Fuel is poured into a gasoline mower.

Hold the mower with the spool or knife parallel to the ground. When the tool is in the correct position, turn on the motor. Turn off the mower after the grass has been cut.

How to cut your lawn to keep it smooth

In order for the lawn to be cut evenly, the mower should be lowered as low as possible during operation. The plot must be divided into squares. You need to work by moving clockwise. In this case, the hay will always lie on the left without getting in the way.
