What the straw mower is for

Rotary mowers

In agriculture, many special equipment is used to facilitate labor. One of the varieties of such equipment is a rotary mower. It is a mounted element, which is used for mowing grass, making hay and taking care of plots in Ukraine. The tool is also used for high-quality land preparation before planting plants. Mounted on a tractor or mini-tractor. Let’s consider in detail its features and advantages.

The mower is used for working in fields and meadows, mowing grass and weeds, collecting crops, and making hay. The rotary model is distinguished by the presence of discs, the rotation of which provides high-quality cleaning of the plot.

The mower is fixed to the tractor, it can be mounted at the front or rear. It is a popular device in Ukraine due to its simple design. Discs carry “floating” blades. Thanks to the features of the device, the work on an uneven surface is provided. If the cutting part encounters a very hard object, it pivots by means of a pivot. The tractor easily passes over the problem area, and then the cutting element returns to its original position.

The compact size of the mower ensures its maximum maneuverability. It easily copes with its task on small routes with winding roads. The grass is mowed around trees, around fences and other obstacles. Rotary mower helps in independent processing of large territories.

Compact and affordable Polish mowers have become popular among those who own vegetable gardens, summer cottages, country houses. You can also buy equipment for farmlands or poultry farms, as well as to perform tasks in the city. Employees of housing and communal services in Ukraine use the device to qualitatively mow the grass, beautifying streets and park areas.

Advantages and disadvantages of the rotary mower

Before buying a rotary mower, it is a good idea to check its technical specifications. Let’s study the main advantages of the product:

  • The high level of efficiency of mowing grass with a tractor with a mower, even on difficult to access areas in Kharkov, Kiev and other cities in Ukraine;
  • The ability to work with thick shoots and grain crops;
  • The grass is easily raked into a neat swath and can be removed with a rake;
  • operation thanks to the traction unit;
  • safety function in the event of a serious obstacle;
  • Mowing in sloping, rugged terrain
  • mowing height adjustment via floating blade position.

The design of the device is simple and does not require complex technical means. Parts can be replaced quickly and without much difficulty.

Despite its many positive qualities, the rotary mower on a tractor can fail to cut soft, pliable grass. And haymaking requires frequent windrow tedding. Otherwise, the models are quite handy with sharp knives and help to cope with large amounts of work.

Forage harvesting is in full swing. Mower overview

The main task, over which the cattle breeders are puzzling, is how to prepare forage in a short time with minimal losses. There is a solution! For this you need a quality technique, suitable to the type of growing grass, the area of the field, tractor power, and most importantly. the budget.

Mowing. the first step in obtaining quality green forage. Mowing time is limited by the crop’s vegetation period, so reliability and efficiency are of utmost importance in the peak of the forage harvesting period. Choosing the right mower starts the process of procuring forage.

What kind of mower does the modern livestock farmer need??

Today’s market offers a huge range of machines from different manufacturers, imported and domestic, mounted and trailed. But what points are the most important in the choice? First, as little loss as possible in the work, a complete crop. Secondly, the speed of the machines. every minute counts, especially for grass, which quickly loses its nutritive value. Thirdly, technical characteristics suitable for the conditions of a particular farm: the yield of the field, the climate of the region, the type of land, the number of livestock. And, of course, all this should be affordable.

Getting the grass mowed on time is of course an important step in producing quality forage, but only part of the success. To get a really nutritious forage you need to make sure the following features are in place: high mowing speed, ability to work on uneven fields, conditioning, fluffing function, balanced weight of the machine, etc.

Basically, tractor mowers are divided by the type of drive into rotary and belt. The belt-driven ones use the power of the traction wheels, are easy to hitch to the tractor, do not require adjustment, and are quite unpretentious. Rotary mowers operate directly from the engine and are characterized by increased productivity. Mounting and operating a rotary mower requires safety precautions so as not to damage the machine and the main mechanisms. Rotary mowers are seen as more reliable, easy to operate and simple to repair. Disc type rotary mowers are suitable for uneven meadows, marshy or clogged areas.

Depending on how they are mounted, rotary mowers can be mounted, trailed, rear-mounted or front-mounted.

The mower’s working width also plays an important role, especially when the farm already has rakes, balers and other forage harvesting equipment. It is important that the swath or swath formed by the mower, does not interfere with or slow down the work of other machinery. Mowers vary in working widths from 1.3 to 3.2 meters.

They are also rich in optional extras. For example, swathing, swathing, conditioning and conditioning. By combining the right options and technical features, the ideal machine for your farm can be obtained.

Rotary mowers KRN-2,1B “Bezhetsselmash” have a working width of 2.1 meters and 4 working rotors, each of which is 2 mowing blades. The mower model is designed in accordance with standards and traditions, but at the same time new technologies and improved design are used in production.

State-of-the-art safety device when encountering obstacles. The safety device enables the blades to be saved when encountering obstacles. Mower blades swivel by up to 45 degrees to the side in response to a safety device.

The gear housing is reinforced and the machine is hermetically sealed.

The cuttings are arranged in an even swath which makes the baler easy to follow or transport.

The KRN mowers are coupled to 0.9 and 1.4 class tractors, such as the HTZ Belarus 82. equipped with a three-point linkage with a PTO at least 540 rpm and a lifting capacity of at least 600 kg. Mowers can also work with such tractors as T-40, MTZ-422, Belarus-622, HTZ-3512, LTZ-60AB, AGROMASH 50TK, YUMZ-6AKM40.2.

KIR.1.5 straight flail mower for shredding the mowed material. Trailer included. The machine is used for mowing potato hay and greens of all kinds, as well as silage crops. Rated speed up to 12 km/h during operation. Mowing capacity depends on the type of crop being mowed. Practically no losses, only slight losses at cuts in alfalfa, which leaves are processed into a very small fraction.

The mower is attached to 1,4 t class tractors. The mower is powered by the tractor PTO, then by a cardan shaft, then by a box with bevel gears, then by an overrunning clutch and of course by a transmission shaft. A cart is attached to the mower. Then, when the mower is moving, the flap in front of the mower tilts the plants. In the shield are the counter blades. Next, the knives are engaged, which are mounted on a drum shaft. They mow the stalks, then shred. The final stage is when the shredded grass gets into the housing. The hood itself consists of sections and a deflector. And the finish jerk of the airflow directs the mass into the cart or truck body.

Suspension mechanism for the mower’s pin bar

To copy the topography of the field finger bar 1 is connected by a traction bar 2 to the hinge O1 mower frame. In operating position the toe-bar shoes rest on the surface of the ground and, sliding along it, copy the topography of the field. Adjust the height of cut (50 90 mm) by repositioning the shoe against the tine bar. The shoe pressure force on the ground depends on the spring 3, which acts on the bar through a number of links, and through it on the finger bar. The optimum force on the machine side is 200 300 N for the inner shoe and 100 200 N for the outer shoe.

When harvesting lodged grass the finger bar is tilted forwards so that the tines dig into the grass and raise it. On uneven, stony ground the pin bar is tilted backwards to prevent pin breakage. The position of the toe-bar is changed by turning the rod pivot in relation to the bracket welded to it.

The finger bar is lifted with the AOBCD1DEFKG mechanism. At the start of the lift the double-armed lever AOB rotates, which is connected to the mower’s lifting mechanism. It drives the BC link. The latter moves thrust arm CD1, which through the links DE and EF acts on the lifting arm FG. When the edge of the lifting arm (point n) rests against the ledge of the shoe, the shoe together with the toe-bar begins to rotate relative to the hinge K. The toe-bar is rotated around the hinge until the gap S between the thrust arm CD1 and the DE link is “out”. Finger beam and draw bar are then pivoted around joint O1 as one piece.

Because of the elastic deformations of the drawstring and the clearances in the joint A (see Fig. 6). Fig. 6) arising from machine motion, the toe-bar is drawn back. The centerlines of the tines are at an angle to the direction of travel of the machine, which increases undercutting of the grass. To eliminate negative consequences of such operation, the field end of the finger bar (point C2) is moved on 25 50 mm (relative to the point C1) forward along the machine travel. Bar offset is achieved by changing the length of rod 7.

The length of the link EF of the lifting mechanism can be changed by influencing the load ratio of the inner and outer shoes. Shortening the link reduces the load on the outer shoe and lengthening the link increases the load. Straighten the toe-bar by redistributing the load, which must be done before setting the gaps in the cutting pair. With a straight blade, all toes must be in a straight line; if individual toes are deflected, they are straightened out.

Length of cutter bar and working width

In finger mowers the finger bar length is often taken as 2.1 m. Mower weight per unit of grip length decreases as its length increases, but ground contour following deteriorates, resulting in worse clearance setting in the cutterbar, which lowers quality of operation and accelerates cutterbar wear. The longer the bar, the longer the blade must be. As the blade lengthens, inertia forces increase, causing mower breakdowns.

The working width required for the mowers is determined by the class of the power tool used and the conditions in which it is used. CS: GO-F-2,1B mowers are mounted on tractors of drawbar classes 0,6, 0,9 and 1,4. The KD-F-4 two-tine, semi-mounted mowers mounted on 0.9 and 1.4 class tractors. For grass mowing on large areas with flat topography three-bar trailed mowers KP-F-6 are used, coupled with tractors of classes 0,9 and 1,4. Unified right-till unit with one finger bar 2.1 m long is used on these mowers. Two- and three-bar mowers have 0.2 and 0.3 m of overlapping finger bars. Small tractors of traction class 0,2 0,6 are equipped with 1,1 and 1,5 m wide mowers.

Rotary mowers and mower conditioners are mounted up to 3m width, or if wider, as trailed mowers, fitted with 4 to 8 rotors. The KRN-2.1A rear-mounted rotary mower and the KRN-3 trailed mower have 4 and 6 rotors, respectively. The latter model has two ribbed conditioner rollers. The grass compression force between the rollers is adjusted by the upper spring-loaded roller.

Self-propelled mower conditioners are equipped with different widths of cutterbars. Basic assembly units of applied self-propelled mower-conditioners KPS-5,6 and E-303:

  • self-propelled undercarriage;
  • segmental tine cutting devices;
  • conditioning rollers;
  • The blade conveyor windrower;
  • drive and control mechanisms.

Tractor and self-propelled mowers are raised and lowered with the help of tractor mounting systems and outboard hydraulic cylinders. Cutters, rollers and conveyors are driven from PTO by propshaft, toothed or V-belt and chain drives. Cutting units are protected from breakage by overload safety devices.
