Why a single-axle tractor pulls to the side when plowing

Plowing with Neva power tiller (with plow)

Technical progress and innovative technologies brought farmers a lot of modern equipment which not only helps to ease the work with the land but also, and no less importantly, preserves human health. One of them is a modern single-axle tractor with a plow. These are unique agromachines that can cope with any task. plow the land, plant plants, mow the grass, harvest, remove snow.

In this review article we will talk about how to plow with a Neva motoblock (plow). You will not only receive comprehensive information on the operation of the device, but also technically master the technique of how to plow with a plow on a Neva power tiller.

First plowing

Start plowing by selecting a strip. Visually determine the middle of the coming first strip. Make sure the rows are parallel. We pass the first test row at slow speed. Keep an eye on the plough in this procedure. It must be perpendicular to the strip of land. If this does not happen, readjust the plough again.

The plough should be at least 15-20 cm deep. See if you have less coming out, then the plow needs to be lowered one more adjustment hole.

When the first flume is ploughed, turn the single axle tractor and put it with the right wheel in front of this trial strip. Ploughing along the edge of the right furrow is necessary, because the soil will lie flat with the ridges. This type of plowing is also called “in the dump”. When ploughing, there is no need to push the equipment additionally, but keep it at an angle of 10 degrees to the plough.

When you already have an even swath, and you’ve learned how to hold the single-axle tractor correctly, you need to increase the speed. That means more ploughing, so you get a smoother ploughing.

For a clearer, more concise explanation of how to do the first ploughing, here’s a thematic video.

Assembling the plow

Assembling plow. attaching plow hitch (hereafter hitch). The plough and hitch are assembled for later hitching up the plough to the single axle tractor.

Prepare everything you need for work. plough, hitch, wrenches.

To ensure optimum ploughing depth, match the hub hole (B) to the middle hole in the plough leg (A), and connect them with the fixing bolt (C).

Set the fixing bolt of the adjusting screw (B) into the upper hole of the plough leg (A) and fix it with the nut.

Important! All nuts in the attachment points of the hitch and plough do not need to be fully secured, since you will have to loosen the secured nuts when carrying out work to adjust the plough!

So, after installing the hitch on the plow, you can proceed to the next stage of preparation of the power tiller.

The plough can now be mounted onto a single-axle tractor. Connecting a plow to a power tiller with one or two (depends on a power tiller model) cotter pins (A). Fix the pins with cotter pins.

How to plow with plough on your power tiller?

A single-axle tractor is a universal unit for agricultural works on a homestead or summer cottage. Use it to plow, plant and harvest. This would make ploughing a lot easier.

Various kinds of agricultural work can be done with the help of power tillers. Depending on the size of the cultivated area and demand for equipment in different areas, equipment purchases light, medium and heavy class.

Light

This kind of mini equipment is often called a motocultivator. It does not have more than 4 and a half horsepower, so it is cheaper than medium and large machines. Advantages include the light weight of the monoblock and accessibility to work inconvenient areas due to the small grip of the cutter.

The disadvantage is the rapid overheating of the low-power motor, which means that you will have to work with such equipment for a short time. In addition, the depth of dug-up ground is less than that of a heavy power tiller. In addition, lightweight equipment has no mounts for additional equipment.

Medium

This equipment has rear-wheel drive. The engine power is 5-12 horsepower. The device can process an area of half a hectare. A single-axle tractor weighs from 50 to 70 kilograms, it can be attached a plow and other equipment to most power tillers in this category.

Such machinery has two gears, equipped with a front lamp. Compared to a heavy power tiller a medium-sized one is more maneuverable, but its plowing depth does not exceed 12 cm. And this is unacceptable for planting some plants

Heavy

This equipment can plow huge areas, far exceeding the area of half a hectare. Engine power. 12-30 horsepower, a heavy power tiller can be attached a plow, a trailer, an arrow, a potato digger and other equipment. Such equipment is easier and times faster to work with than light and medium equipment. It has adjustable steering wheel, wheels.

The disadvantages include the heavy weight of the model, lack of access to irregular surfaces. Besides, such machines need to be turned with effort. As for the types of plows for the walking tractor, they can be either reversible with two bodies, which plow the ground with the help of the mouldboard, or rotary, which plow the ground due to the rotating discs.

Ploughing depth

To find the optimal plowing depth, it is necessary to pay attention to the weight of the entire machine. Many of the power tillers are not heavy, so it is recommended to attach additional weight to their wheels. This will increase its efficiency by several times.

During ploughing it is desirable to adhere to the rule that the depth of the first furrow should not exceed 10 cm. All work should be done slowly, without pushing the machine. If the equipment overheats, you need to turn off the tractor and wait at least half an hour.

If the terrain to be ploughed is soft, the metal blade may penetrate deeper by the bayonet of the shovel. If the soil is dense enough, it is difficult to achieve such indicators. In such cases it is desirable to carry out ploughing several times. At each working step the blade is lowered deeper and deeper, so as to get the right characteristics. If the soil is very dense, it is recommended to plow it when wet, which will make the task much easier.

  • Prepare the site. remove large weeds, stones, and anything else that could hinder the operation.
  • Along the future beds it is recommended to stretch a cord. This helps to make the furrows as straight as possible.
  • Adjust the power tiller using the previously mentioned recommendations.
  • Before starting work the plow deepens into the soil. To perform quality ploughing, move slowly along the drawn line.
  • Having reached the end of the furrow turn the single axle tractor around and start working in the opposite direction.
  • Keep a distance of 10 cm between neighboring strips. They must not be covered with soil during cultivation.
  • The right wheel of the machine should be in the middle of the finished furrow, but not at its base.
  • Increase travel speed to achieve an even surface that is not lumpy.

How to choose a single axle tractor?

Motor blocks are multi-purpose devices and can perform a dozen different operations. They can be used not only to plow the land, but also to plant vegetables, weed plants, dip potatoes, harvest crops, and mow grass. In addition to agricultural use, power tillers are widely used for collecting snow and debris, transporting various loads weighing up to half a ton, as well as a snowmobile and mini-tractor. In addition, some high-tech models are equipped with a special shaft on which additional attachments are installed, allowing to cut firewood, pump water and even provide owners with electricity.

Thus, when choosing a power tiller it is necessary to consider what other functions besides plowing the land will be entrusted to the unit.

Engine power is the second most important selection criterion after functionality. These machines are further subdivided into light, medium and heavy. The light and medium models are intended for household purposes and weigh from 50 to 100 kg. They are equipped with 4 to 8 hp engines. с. and usually have two forward and one reverse gear. Low-power machines with a width of 70-80 cm are quite suitable for working on plots of no more than 15 acres. Mothballers equipped with medium power engine of 7-8 liters. с. The 90 cm wide models are designed for larger works, capable of working on plots of 15 to 40 hectares.

The heavy class is represented by models with a powerful engine of 9 or more horsepower, they are used in the fields up to 1-1.5 hectares. These units have a working width of 100 cm and weigh more than 100 kg. These models are often equipped with a diesel engine and have good traction, high moto-life and low fuel consumption. But when the air temperature is 2 degrees and below, diesel engines start a little worse than gasoline engines and take longer to warm up. So if you need not only to dig up the garden, but also to remove snow, it is better to buy a gasoline model.

If you use a power tiller as a self-propelled device or as a tractor for transporting cargo, you should choose models with a wheel diameter of at least 45 cm. For these purposes is also better to choose a deep tread. If the single-axle tractor will only be used for plowing, you will need to additionally purchase a plow and a plow. Despite the fact that most units have a pair of cutters in the basic set, for heavy soils and virgin lands, their power is often not enough. That is why it is necessary to worry about the purchase of additional attachments in advance.

Rules for plowing land with a power tiller

Technologically this process is not complicated, but, requires some compliance with generally accepted rules, which ensures maximum efficiency of the process and the quality of the result.

  • To begin with, the machine is placed on the edge of the field, the gear is set to maximum, and thus the single-axle tractor is moved forward from itself towards the opposite edge of the plot, holding it by the handles.
  • Finally turn by 1800 and carry out the same pass. It is important to remember that each successive crest should be no more than 10 cm from the previous one. This is easily accomplished by guiding the right hand tip in the middle of the next furrow.
  • At first it is advisable to travel at slow speed, checking on the first pass for evenness, perpendicularity of the plough to the ground and the depth of the result. If any of these parameters are not as expected. interrupt the work and reset the machine accordingly. Ideally it should not move jerkily, nor should the coulter tip dig deep into the ground. Then the speed can be increased.

It is recommended to pass hard ground and virgin land at least twice: first at a shallower depth and then at a greater depth.

The procedure for preparing to plow

Tillage is regarded as a demanding and critical process. It should be properly prepared. In many ways, this manifests itself in the form of preparing a power tiller and plow for it.

The single-axle tractor is checked first. The tractor must be in good technical condition, with plenty of fuel. It is usually delivered to the place of plowing by a self-propelled machine, or in the body or in a car trailer.

When plowing, the standard wheels of medium and light class power tillers are usually changed for the so called grousers. They make the tractor‘s grip on the ground better, and also increase the total weight of the device.

The tread pattern on the skids must always face the same way. A tapered pattern should be the focal point.

When the single-axle tractor is prepared, you can start working with the plow.
