No reverse gear on your power tiller

Special features

Basic rules for operating your power tiller, according to the owner’s manual:

  • put the gear lever in neutral position before engaging;
  • Check that the trailed implement is in good condition;
  • Before starting the tiller or trailer, push the kingpin all the way in and lock it securely in place;
  • If a mower is connected to your power tiller, make sure that no foreign objects get into the blades;
  • Wear closed shoes and cloth gloves to operate the machine;
  • Do not operate the machine for more than 2 hours without first starting it;
  • after completing work, check the fuel level, check the condition of the key components of the device.

Belt dimensions for the OKA power tiller

The transmission is a key element in the drive train and proper belt tensioning and selection has a direct effect on the performance of the entire unit. Attention should be paid to the dimensions of the belt, namely the length and width. They must be selected individually for individual modifications.

To determine the right dimensions, the following data must be taken into account:

If Reverse Gear Not Engage

When purchasing the product, it is also important to pay attention to the appearance of the strap. It must be in one piece, without unnecessary bends, defects and other damages, so as not to damage the cultivator of the power tiller.

Internal combustion engine

Malfunctions occurring in the engine is one of the most common problems, since it is the engine that is subjected to critical loads when the power tiller is in operation. The motor in the device is a typical internal combustion apparatus. Recently, four-stroke units have been used in the design of the power tiller. The engine consists of the following parts:

The action of the engine is based on the processes occurring in its cylinders, causing the transformation of thermal energy into mechanical work. During a four-stroke cycle, there are two full revolutions of the crankshaft accompanied by the inlet, compression, expansion and exhaust strokes.

When the engine is started, the piston moves from the top to the bottom. Cams of a camshaft release an intake valve. The fuel mixture with a mixture of air enters the cylinder through the valve. The piston then begins to move upward again, compressing the mixture as it rises in temperature.

the spark in the spark plug ignites the mixture and gases are created. The gases produced push the piston, doing useful work. This mode is called a work stroke. As soon as the piston is lowered down again, the exhaust valve closes and then begins to push the gases out of the cylinder as it rises. Waste material exits through the exhaust valve and is ejected through the filters.

Failures arising from engine malfunctions are usually subdivided into two states: the first. the engine does not start, the second. there is a start, but the work is unsatisfactory.

No reaction on start-up

Such an event is not necessarily associated with direct damage to the engine, so the repair begins with a general inspection of the product and its cleaning, after which it is made sure that the fuel supply is uninterrupted and the spark plug is working.

To do this, the spark plug is unscrewed and inspected. If it is dry, this is an indication that no fuel is flowing into the cylinder. The soot present is removed mechanically using a knife and awl. The spark plug is wiped and then the starter is started after the fuel supply is cut off. This operation allows you to dry the combustion chamber by cleaning it of diesel or gasoline fuel residues. If the check shows that there is no spark between the spark plug plug pins, replace it with a known working spark plug.

The sequence of actions is better to follow the instructions developed for the Zubr power tiller, but this does not mean that it cannot be applied to other manufacturers of the device, such as “Agros”, “Tarpan”, “Lifan”, “Mole”, etc. п. The sequence of operations is as follows:

  • The position of the motor is checked. If necessary, the starter motor is levelled.
  • The presence of fuel in the tank is established.
  • The next step is to check the tank flap. If there is a blockage it is removed.
  • The hole in the fuel tank lid is inspected for possible obstruction of air passage.
  • If there is no fuel supply the whole fuel system is cleaned.
  • Examines the condition of the generator coil. magneto. If it is suspected that it does not work, it is replaced.
  • The increase in the heating of the cylinder walls is indirectly indicative of depressurization of the combustion chamber. Therefore, the piston ring is checked and if necessary it is replaced.

Remember to also check the starter. Its repair, for example, as in the Kentavr motoblock, is to restore the clamping force of the springs. Sometimes the starter cord needs to be replaced. In the case of the electric starter you will need to check the batteries. Winding burnout is almost uncommon, but brush wear is possible.

Causes of malfunctions

When the engine starts, but after a while it does not run smoothly or stops, the carburettor and fuel system should be cleaned first. It is also important to check the condition of the oil seal. It may have severe wear and need to be replaced. Accumulated carbon in the muffler or cylinders clogs the gas passages, and a clogged air filter prevents getting the right mixture, which results in malfunctioning of the engine.

Complicated and responsible operation is to perform repair of the carburetor of the motoblock, used to remove vapors and the formation of the fuel-air mixture. Its failures are connected with clogging of jets or air filter. That’s why it is so important to clean the filters on time. Disassembly of the carburetor is done by yourself: for example, in a motorblock “Zirka” for this you will need:

  • Drain the rest of fuel and at the same time check the fuel valve.
  • Check the condition of the chamber with the float and its adjusting tongue.
  • Remove screws of gas control.
  • Remove the upper part of the cover, and after unscrewing the bolts. and the lower part.
  • Clean and blow out the elements and give them time to dry.
  • Reassemble the device in reverse order.

After assembling the carburetor, it is mandatory to adjust it. Adjustment is not usually difficult, but it does require some care. Instructions on how to properly adjust the carburetor can be studied in specialized books, for example: “MB (OKA, Neva, Kaskad, Salyut)” or the same type motor-blocks.

The reverse gear does not engage on the power tiller

The first owners of “Kozak Poltava” motor-tractors appeared and they asked to prepare the instructions for adjustment of the gearbox rocker arm.

Given the fact that in fact it is a box of a heavy power tiller, the article will be useful to the owners of power tillers. Under certain conditions, which we will talk about in detail later, when you turn on the gearbox it fails to work and instead of the usual speeds another gear is engaged.

Why is this happening?? To understand the cause, you need to know the principle of the gearbox.

Let’s start with the general principles. Many owners of motor blocks are drivers and are accustomed to the perfect car gearboxes that have synchronizers, which facilitate the inclusion of speeds, and in addition, the gears in the box of helical gears, which provides low noise.

It’s not like that with a power tiller and tractor. The box is simple, the gears are straight, it means that they are noisy. There is no speech about synchronizers, and it is this feature that should be taken into account when working with the box!

Unfortunately, we can’t show you how the box components work from the inside, so we’ll use diagrams to explain.

In the box is a set of gears. The combination of different gears allows for different speeds on the axle with the wheels of the power tiller.

In the revision hole on the box of tractor “Kozak Poltava” even though badly, one can see the forks of gears. And now look at the diagram. In neutral, all forks are on the same mowing line. When a gear is engaged, the desired fork shifts with the pinion. When shifting into neutral, the fork returns to the middle position. But sometimes, for example, if careless handling, the fork is off-center and then the gears on this mowing line can not be engaged. Shift lever is resting against the fork bracket.

Experienced motoblockers without disassembling the box, through the revision holes, put the forks in the neutral position and restore the normal mode of operation.

With tractor “Kozak Poltava” design of the gear shift mechanism is more complex, it uses a rocker, which provides a comfortable location of the gear shift knob, but requires adjustment.

Now let’s consider the problems that may be encountered by owners of a motor tractor, and understand the algorithm of the solution.

When working on a tractor, as well as on a power tiller, the fork may shift. When trying to engage a gear, the lever will bump into it. The driver’s natural reaction. to apply force. is to disturb the adjustment of the gear shift linkage. There is a subjective solution to the problem: lever reaches the right point, but when you turn on the gear does not match the data on the stencil. Also the lever does not reach the top or bottom of the stencil.

Even after adjusting the position of the forks, the problem with turning on does not disappear. This is due to the incorrect position of the gear shift lever, an offset on the linkage.

To restore normal operation of the box you need to perform the following actions.

Unscrew the rocker arm from the gear lever.

Adjust forks to middle position. Because of the short length of the lever, a hammer or lever must be used.

Attach rocker arm to the box lever.

Check the height of the pull rod in relation to the axis of the hinge.

reverse, gear, your, power, tiller

Optimal size 95 mm. If this value is smaller, the range of the box lever movement will be insufficient and the box will not work.

Next, adjust the position of the lever in relation to the linkage. The link consists of two parts that are joined together by a threaded joint. It provides adjustment of lever length, and most importantly allows adjustment of shift lever position relative to the transmission lever.

Adjust the pull rod so that the position on the stencil coincides with the position of the lever on the forks when you move it in height. After that, secure the position with the jam nut. To be on the safe side, the nut can be welded to the lever, this prevents a repeat of this situation.

And finally some recommendations to avoid malfunctioning of the box. You may have noticed that the gears on your power tiller don‘t always shift on the first try. This is due to the lack of synchronizers. Often when engaging, the teeth get caught and the gears do not engage. You must depress the clutch and try again. Use of force and impacts may cause the forks to malfunction and the adjustments shown in this video.

Dear owners of tractors and power tillers! Work deliberately and carefully! Do not move suddenly. Follow safety precautions and you will be fine!

FEATURES OF OPERATING POWER TILLERS AND POWER TOOLS. Starting and stopping and controlling your power tiller and power tool

7.3.1. To start the engine, you need to set the clutch lever in the “off” position, open the petrol valve and throttle (on V3-1/2 of its full rotation), press the float float indicator of the carburetor and hold for 10-30 seconds (only for MK-1 and M-3), set the air damper in the “closed” position, pull the starter cord to engage the dogs (for MB-1, MK-1 and M-3) and abruptly pull the cord. For lever starting of the MTZ-05 power tiller, pull the lever 3-4 times. After starting the lever is automatically locked in the home position. Warm up the engine at minimum steady speed and then fully open the air damper. There is no need to close the choke shutter when starting a warmed-up engine.

7.3.2. After finishing work set the lowest revolutions of the engine, turn off the clutch, idle for 2-3 minutes, then press the button “stop” (for MK-1 and M-3), turn the throttle lever into the “stop” position (for MB-1), release the “motor-stop” lever on the left handle of the control rod (for “Kutaisi Super-600”).

7.3.3. The operator himself can move a single-axle tractor by a short distance, mainly during operations of coupling with implements when you need to do some maneuvering to connect a hitch or trailed implement with the implement or to transport the implement to the neighboring site (on the transport wheels). This maneuvering is performed with the gearbox control lever in neutral position or with the clutch disengaged. This may require considerable forces, because the single axle tractor must be restrained from tipping forwards or backwards. To facilitate maneuvering it is necessary to disable differential lock (if it is present).

7.3.4. As an element holding MTZ-05 motoblock in normal (upright) position when parked, use a special tilting support 8, located in the front of the engine block (see Fig. 3 12). Rice. 1.12). Coulter // (see 1) can be used as a support element on the MB-1 “Neva” power unit. rice. 1.(see 1-14), which should be set so that the single axle tractor stands firmly with some tilting back supported by the coulter when stopped. The standard or additional support wheels (for power tillers) are very convenient. For power tillers they are very necessary.

7.3.5. If possible, even minor obstacles should be avoided when transporting by firmly holding the single-axle tractor by the handles of the control bar. If obstacles cannot be passed, the implement must be carefully maneuvered around them with extra care and steepness. This is especially important if the single axle tractor does not have a front stop, otherwise it could cause it to tip forward.

7.3.6. Light tractors and power tools can be carried from place to place by two people; one person lifts the single-axle tractor by the handles of the control bar and the other by the special lug or safety stop located at the front of the power tool.

7.3.7. The operator’s direct control of the machine during a given technological operation should be aimed at achieving high quality of cultivation, ensuring the safety of the operator and of the people in the machine’s working area, and maintaining the machine’s operability. While driving, always keep an eye on the lane in front of the machine to check for obstacles (stones, ditches, etc.). п.) and determine the way (way) to overcome it. At the same time, the operator must observe the condition of the working elements, their action and check their. If a malfunction is detected, the machine must be stopped and the malfunction eliminated.

7.3.8. Before moving off identify in advance which gear the single axle tractor will move (to be processed), start and warm up the engine. Keeping the clutch lever in the “off” position, set the selected gear (on the MB-1 power tiller the engine starts). Use the throttle lever to increase engine speed and, slowly moving the clutch lever, engage the clutch smoothly. the single-axle tractor as a result moves off, its speed is set by the operator, who accordingly moves the throttle lever. Although you don’t need any special training to operate a power tiller, you still need some experience with each type of attachment or trailed implement.

7.3.9. Before milling the ground after starting and warming up the engine, use the throttle lever to increase the engine speed, then gently engage the clutch, after which the milling drum begins to rotate, penetrating into the ground and simultaneously moving the machine. While milling, make sure that all of the sprockets on the milling drum follow the uncultivated condition of the field. If some of the sprockets move on top of the soil that has already been tilled, the unit will start to “drift” away from the tilled area, in which case you must apply lateral forces to the control handles and return the unit to the unworked area.

7.3.10. If the working depth begins to drop (the tiller starts to move out of the ground), press the control levers from above, which will drive the opener deeper and increase the milling depth. But if the tiller is “buried” and won’t move, it means that the coulter is too deep in the ground and “holds” the machine. In this case, lift the control levers to unhitch the coulter. The operator must control the tiller or power tiller without leaning forward or leaning backward. е. without pushing the machine forward or holding it back. The most comfortable position for the operator is shown in Fig. 7.3, which can be achieved by appropriate adjustment of the tiller and coulter handles. In this case the operator does not expend much effort and is less tired.

7.3.11. After the first pass it is recommended to stop the machine, turn off the engine and check the tilled strip, i.e. е. Measure the working depth. If the depth is too low, the coulter should be lowered from its original position (normally the medium-high position). Then return to the soil and check the result once again. In cases where the coulter is not able to achieve a pre-determined working depth by moving the disc coulter, a pair of sprockets must be removed from the axle.

7.3.12. Till loose soils in the conventional way with the maximum number of sprockets per pass. it is recommended to work hard soils in 2 to 3 passes, increasing the working depth with the coulter each time. In this case the structure of the cultivated soil is more homogeneous.

7.3.13. When ploughing, the unit must run in a straight line, but should be controlled so that the plough does not dig into the soil and does not become tilled. After the first furrow a furrow check and, if necessary, an adjustment of the plough’s position in respect of furrow depth and working width is necessary. When ploughing, there may be difficulties in steering because of excessive slip due to redistribution of pressure on one of the wheels. That’s why plowing should be done with differential lock on, and the machine can be controlled by following it or sideways with the control rod turned beforehand. At the end of the drive, disengage the differential lock and turn at a reduced engine speed.

7.3.14. If you use a tine bar, you may have difficulty steering because the machine will not run straight. This will cause additional efforts of the operator for continuous correction of machine movement along the furrow. Increase the driving stability by increasing the track width of the power tiller. In this respect the most convenient is MTZ-05 single-axle tractor (see. Fig. 5.2).

7.3.15. When operating the MTZ-05 power tiller with a mower, PTO drive must be switched on at low engine speed. In this case the clutch must be depressed. If the haymaker is operated in reverse of the power tiller (when the control bar is turned by 180°), you must remember that the position of the control levers of the power tiller does not correspond to the original. Make sure that there are no obstacles in the mower’s path which may disrupt its operation. In the event of blockage in cutting unit stop mower, switch off engine and clean. If blockage is light, with the clutch disengaged and the mower running, press the control levers to raise the mower off the ground and clean it by itself.

7.3.16. For transport units, after starting and warming up the engine with the clutch disengaged, engage the appropriate gear in which you intend to drive. Next the operator must release the wheels of the mower and, by increasing the engine speed, engage the clutch smoothly. This gives the machine a smooth, jolt-free start-up. Sharp driving movements may cause increased machine wear and operator fatigue.

7.3.17. When the transport unit is in motion the operator must change course by sideways shifting the control bar handles to one side or the other. Steep turns and especially U-turns are difficult to achieve from the seat, so the operator must stop the machine and dismount from the cart. Then turn the machine in the desired direction by grasping the control rod handles. After making a sharp turn or U-turn, the operator can sit down and continue to drive normally.

7.3.18. When driving uphill, downhill or in steep turns, always drive in a slow gear, so that the machine speed does not exceed t4 km/h and the control bar must be held firmly in your hand. If it is necessary to stop on a slope, the brake pedal or lever must be depressed at the same time as disengaging the clutch. If you want to park the machine on a slope, use the parking brake and place chocks under the wheels.

7.3.19. Load the trailed cart as evenly as possible. When carrying bulky loads and small loads, place them over the bogie axle with a slight tug to enhance the trailer’s traction. When transporting bulky loads or hay, tie down the load with a rope. If the size of the load is such that the operator’s rearward visibility is obstructed, special caution should be exercised, especially when driving on the road. When turning, stop the machine on the right side of the road, look around, and only after ensuring that the road is clear in both directions, turn or swivel. Do the same thing when visibility is reduced.

The automatic transmission does not engage reverse gear

In practice, the rear gear may not be engaged in both a manual transmission and an automatic transmission. Taking into account that there are different automatic transmissions, it should be noted that some problems of automatic transmissions are similar to “manual” ones, while “classical” automatic transmissions have their own list of problems, due to which the reverse speed is lost.

  • Level of automatic transmission fluid (ATF) deviates from norm, automatic transmission fluid is polluted or has lost its properties. As it is known, automatic transmission is extremely sensitive to level and quality of oil. That’s why it is necessary to start check it with transmission fluid.

Please note, both under- and over-leveling can cause the gears to shift incorrectly. Also, ATF oil has a limited lifetime, which means the fluid needs to be changed every 40-60 thousand years. km., The oil must not be contaminated, cloudy, etc.д.

  • Friction clutches (friction discs) in automatic transmission. This malfunction often affects both reverse R and drive D gears. Friction friction problems can cause gears not to engage or individual speeds to be lost (e.g., the vehicle is in 1st and 2nd gear but not in 3rd and 4th, or reverse). To correct the problem, you will need to replace the friction clutches of the automatic transmission.
  • Other malfunctions and breakdowns of automatic transmission. For example, if the splines of the driving drum are sheared, the car can go forward, but there is no reverse gear. There may also be a complete lack of forward and reverse motion. The problem requires replacing the drum.

Also recommended to read about why a malfunction occurs in a manual transmission. From this article you will learn about the main reasons why it can be difficult to engage gears on a manual transmission.

Other failures include breakage of brake band piston cuffs or heavy wear and tear. The malfunction occurs only when the driver engages reverse gear, that is, the car normally drives forward, but there is no movement in reverse. Another frequent problem with similar symptoms is breakdown or jamming of hydroblock valves, some solenoids.

Additionally, experts point out that if there is no connection between the oil pump pinion and the torque converter, the automatic transmission will not engage both forward and reverse gears.

Getting your power tiller ready for cultivation

To make the tilling of the soil, it is necessary to mount a set of cutters on both sides. One set includes from six to sixteen blades. Such a high number and arrangement of blades allows for maximum efficiency in soil tillage. When installing the blades, make sure that the cutting part faces forward, in the direction of travel of the power tiller. Next, install the coulter. a special bar, which has vertically located holes with which you can adjust the depth of the tiller during cultivation of the land. To change the working depth, the coulter can be attached to the clevis in different ways:

  • to increase the depth the coulter should be lowered down and attached to the clevis through the upper holes;
  • To reduce the depth, the coulter should be lifted up and attached to the ear through the holes below.

MTZ started to be manufactured in Soviet times. Their main advantage is considered to be simplicity and maintainability. That’s why there is no problem to understand the mechanics of Belarus. The most popular model is MTZ-05.

The diagram below shows in detail the location of the main working elements of a power tiller.

Before starting any repair work, be sure to study this diagram. It will throw off many questions about the location or name of the main parts of the device.

Engine

Based on the reviews, we can highlight the main problems that arise during operation, and ways to solve them.

It is difficult to start the MTZ engine

  • Lack of or obstructed fuel supply. In this case, it is necessary to check the presence of fuel in the gas tank. If there is gasoline, check and clean the fuel filters. Check that the carburettor is securely connected to the head. Check the gasoline pump for proper operation.
  • Problems in the ignition system. Check the connection of the wires to the magneto and spark plugs. Check that the magneto is working and giving off a spark. Electrode insulation in or gap between spark plugs may be broken. Start with quicker pedal pressure. Check that gas pedal is working.

Crankshaft turns slowly or stands still

  • whether the starter and battery wires are securely fastened;
  • the battery charge and its serviceability;
  • how warm the engine is;
  • if there is no slippage of the freewheel clutch in the starter drive. If this situation occurs, it is necessary to replace the clutch completely;
  • state of lubrication of the drive gears and splines;
  • cleanliness of the manifold;
  • condition of the brushes;
  • condition of armature windings (in case of violation, replace the entire device).

engine started, but starter does not turn off

In this case, first of all disassemble the starter and check its performance. probably jammed starter shaft drive or traction armature.

MTZ engine does not deliver full power

  • wash and dry the spark plugs, and set the gap between them;
  • correct the composition of the fuel mixture at idle speed;
  • Clean the carburetor;
  • check that the ignition is set correctly;
  • there was too much strain on the tiller and the throttle plate has opened too much, put it back in place.

During work the carburetor system overflows with oil

  • Remove the soot and wipe down the valve;
  • the shut-off needle does not seat completely;
  • The gasoline pump delivers too much fuel;
  • Put more gaskets in the gasoline pump.

Engine change

Most often the engine is replaced on old Belarusians 05 and 09. The factory engines UD-15 and UD-25 are installed on them. Their service life since the 90’s has long been exhausted. That’s why the Honda and Lifan engines are considered more popular now.

The new factory models of MTZ-09H power tillers are equipped with Honda GX 270 engines. They are considered the most reliable for gardening applications.

Replacing the engine with a new one is a difficult task, because all the systems must be clearly connected according to the diagram.

Replace the engine exactly according to the scheme. If something goes wrong in the replacement, the Belarus starts behaving unpredictably when receiving heavy loads.

To do this you can upgrade the gears and replace the standard ones with high-speed ones.

  • Standard idler has 61 teeth and half axle has 12 teeth.
  • Speed pinion has 55 teeth, half axle has 15 teeth.

Engine speed remains the same, but the speed of the axle shaft and therefore the engine speed of the power tiller increases significantly.

The table shows the change in speed in each gear

No. of gears Speed of a factory-equipped tractor (km/h) Speed of a power tiller equipped with speed gears (km/h)
1 2, 3,5
2 3,6 6,0
3 5,2 8,6
4 9,2 15,3

One more way to increase the speed of Belarus is to install wheels with larger diameter.

The more diameter the bike, the farther it travels per revolution.

Running-in

If you are the first owner of an MTZ power tiller, you should do a running-in before using it fully.

This procedure is necessary so that the factory components rub against each other and start working stably.

Because if you immediately put a heavy plow on it and start plowing, the parts may not fit together well due to their slight roughness, and any part of the gear can easily fail.

The running-in period for Belarus tractors should be 10 to 12 hours. At this time you should simply let the engine run with light loads. For example, it could be a simple trailer that can be hooked up to the tiller and driven around.

Tuning

For proper operation it is necessary to adjust the single axle tractor before going out into the field to do the work.

Tuning is best done after the machine has been parked in the garage during winter, when the joints may have become loose.

In case you are the first owner and you have just bought a Belarus, it should already be tuned up by the Smorgon factory. But it is still recommended to check again all systems of engine operation.

Stages of adjustment of engine operation:

  • Adjust the fuel mixture, because it is controlled by special screws, which must be periodically put in place.
  • Set the correct gap between the valves, this is necessary so that the necessary amount of fuel mixture enters the carburetor.
  • Adjust the carburetor operation for giving out necessary engine rpm at minimum and maximum gas.
  • Check pressure in tires, it must be the same, on the level of 2 atmospheres, otherwise during work MTZ will be leading to one side and steering will be difficult.

Service

The MTZ single axle tractor is unpretentious in maintenance, but its condition should be monitored.

  • After the field work it should be cleaned from the remains of dirt, this will prevent the single axle tractor from corrosion under the influence of moisture.
  • If the paint has been damaged it must be repaired with a special paint, for the same reason.
  • It is necessary to check the oil level in special tanks. And keep it at the right level. Otherwise there will be friction without lubrication and the wear of parts will increase many times. For the same reason it is necessary to lubricate the axles of shift levers with Lithol or Solidol.

Operation

Important! Do not operate with the foot control fully lowered.

  • The single-axle tractor itself is useless, it works with special attachments. It must be securely fastened with the kingpin as far as it will go! Otherwise it is possible that the joints will break and the equipment will fly off the power tiller. If it is on the rear, or in front of the operator, it may cause serious personal injury.
  • It is forbidden to engage the reverse gear while the tiller is moving forward.

Lubrication system

For a long and stable run, the machine needs to be properly lubricated. Thanks to this, all parts of the device will work long and steadily.

The crankcase of the MTZ has 0,6 dm3 of oil. The optimum grade is 10W-30 according to the operator’s manual. It is recommended that you buy imported oil: it is more expensive, but it works better.

Important! If you have just bought a single axle tractor, there is no oil in the sump. It must be filled in. Do not run in without oil.

The first oil change is necessary after the first 25 hours of operation. This should be done regularly. In the manual for your Moto-Block it is clearly spelled out after how many hours of work to change the oil on your Moto-Block MTZ.

Prevent the engine from warming up before changing. Thanks to this trick, the oil becomes more fluid and comes out of the engine more easily.

Oil change algorithm:

  • Oil tank cap is removed.
  • Place a container under the drain hole.
  • Removing the plug from the oil tank to drain.
  • Stays in this position for 15 minutes.
  • Insert drain plug.
  • Pour oil to required level and check level with dipstick.
  • Screw cap on.

The choice of transmission oil can be confusing to many people. It makes sense that you would use gear oil, but it’s not. In this case, there is not a lot of stress on the transmission, as in cars.

If you put in thicker transmission oil like TAP-15 or TAD-17, it will make it harder to run your power tool.

A single-axle tractor with transmission oil cannot produce the required power. So here you also pour engine oil made by the Soviet GOSTs: M-10B2 or M-10G2 (summer versions of oil) and M-8G2 (in winter).

Algorithm of changing oil in the transmission:

  • Place a container under the drain hole of the transmission.
  • Unscrew the drain plug and drain the used oil.
  • Fill with new and close the plug.
  • Run the oil through the transmission system at idle.

If you pour oil above the mark, the single axle tractor will churn it throughout the system, and excess oil will leak out of the oil tank and linkage assemblies.

Adjusting the clutch

The clutch is the link between the transmission and the control lever. That’s why you need to know how to adjust it.

If the clutch has failed, you can see the failures immediately:

  • When the clutch is fully depressed and the single axle tractor is ripping out of place, the adjustment screw is loose and should be tightened.
  • If the clutch is released and the single axle tractor does not give the necessary speed or stands still, you should loosen the screw a little.
  • The most popular problem is a lack of oil or poor quality. It is best to use imported equivalents to fill, in which case you can protect yourself from bad oil. If it is just not enough, top it up. You should check the level before you start each work.
  • If you have changed the oil but the noise is still there, the problem is in the gears. They should be replaced with new ones. It is not allowed to work with defective gears.

If there is a problem with shifting, disengaging or jamming the gears, there may be several reasons.

  • Adjust the clutch first, if you are sure of the correct setting, read on;
  • Gearbox parts worn out, disassemble and look at their condition, replace with new ones if necessary;
  • Worn splines on shafts.

Important! If the faces of the spinning gears are dirty with dust and oil stuck on them, then the gear shifts will be spontaneous.

Generator

As standard, MTZ power tillers are sold without an alternator. When upgrading them with the battery, it is much more pleasant to use. This makes it possible to put an electric starter instead of an ordinary one and install a light. Thanks to the battery and the electric starter you can easily start the single axle tractor, and the light will help to carry out work in the dark.

Over time, during operation, the vibration can increase. In this case, you should check the condition of the bearings, with their wear significantly increases the vibration, which comes from the crank mechanism.

The flywheel is responsible for the transmission of rotation. So the engine may be fine, but the transmission to the flywheel is already vibrating. If it is damaged, it should be replaced with a new one.
